NYC Mayor Adams Rebukes Biden for Border Crisis, Citing $4.2 Billion in Costs thumbnail

NYC Mayor Adams Rebukes Biden for Border Crisis, Citing $4.2 Billion in Costs

By Federation for American Immigration Reform

New York City Mayor Eric Adams last week issued a sharp rebuke to President Biden for his immigration policies that have left the City inundated with illegal aliens.  “The president and the White House have failed New York City on this issue,” Mayor Adams said during a press conference at City Hall.

Mayor Adams’ press conference came the day before he was scheduled to meet with federal officials to discuss the surge of migrants into New York City. Already infamously crowded and expensive, the City has been lurching from crisis to crisis as its services are overwhelmed by newly arriving illegal aliens. According to the New York Times, more than 55,000 migrants have arrived in New York City since the spring of 2022. Close to 35,000 are being housed by the city and are receiving services.

To deal with the influx, New York has opened more than 100 emergency shelters, and eight Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers. In March, Mayor Adams announced a new 24-hour center to welcome migrants, as well as the creation of a new agency to help coordinate the arrival of migrants.  Last week, the city announced the opening of another emergency shelter, this one at a 492-room Holiday Inn in the Financial District.

Finally, at Tuesday’s press conference, Mayor Adams put a price tag on the cost of caring for the surge of illegal aliens: “$1.4 billion this fiscal year, 2.8 the next. Those are the numbers.”  “This is one of the largest humanitarian crises that this city has ever experienced. It will impact every service in the city,” Mr. Adams said. “Why isn’t every elected official in Washington, D.C., asking the national government, ‘Why are you doing this to New York?’”

Looking ahead, Mayor Adams noted that the end of Title 42 would drive more illegal aliens into his city.  He also cautioned that the price tag to care for illegal aliens could also grow.

Mayor Adams is one of the few Democratic leaders willing to acknowledge the out-of-control costs of illegal immigration and rightly blame the Biden administration. This comes out of necessity; the mayor can’t simply explain away the $4.2 billion dollars that illegal immigration will cost the city over two years.

Unfortunately for the hundreds of thousands of American citizens who elected him, Adams sees more destructive policies as the only proper solution for the migrant crisis that “sanctuary” laws and lax border controls created. For example, Adams has asked  President Biden to simply hand out work permits to illegal migrants in his city. This non-solution, in addition to being a gross misuse of our immigration laws, would only make the problem worse. Allowing tens of thousands of illegal aliens into New York City’s job market just pushes out Adams’ struggling American constituents while making the city even more attractive for costly illegal migration.

What’s happening to New York City is proof that “sanctuary” policies are not only illegal but extremely self-destructive because they attract illegal aliens. Loosening federal immigration laws, as Adams calls for, will not end the costly flood of illegal immigrants that has left immigration courts with waits of up to a decade. The changes Adams proposes would only attract more migrants and further overwhelm expensive, inflation-wracked “sanctuary” cities across the country.

Solving this crisis will require ending the free-for-all at the border and being tougher, not weaker, in enforcing existing immigration laws. The Biden administration has simply stood by as hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens cross our borders every month, and actively aided hundreds of thousands more in flying directly into the U.S. It shouldn’t surprise Mayor Adams that many of these migrants will come to the city he insists is a “sanctuary” despite the huge costs to the city’s services. Ending the uncontrolled influx is the only solution to New York’s, and America’s, woes.

Ultimately, Adams is correct in saying that the Biden administration needs to clean up its mess. If Adams wanted to be truly courageous, he would admit that advertising New York City as a “sanctuary city” was a mistake, work with ICE to remove criminal aliens from the country, and call on the Biden administration to secure our borders.

Biden’s Border Chaos Fuels Child Trafficking thumbnail

Biden’s Border Chaos Fuels Child Trafficking

By The Daily Caller

What is happening along our international borders today is not just about illegal immigration or drug smuggling. It’s also about the rapid increase in human trafficking and modern-day slavery, which is flourishing with the chaos that open borders facilitate.

With a record number of unaccompanied minors crossing into the U.S., it has become increasingly difficult to ensure they are leaving government care and going into safe, financially secure situations with people who will care for them. This disorder sets the stage for unaccountability and abuse of the system.

It is not uncommon that when Border Patrol agents and law enforcement officers come across unaccompanied minors, they find them with a phone number and name attached to them. Most times, the minor does not know and has never met the person that they are supposed to be handed over to. Recent investigations are revealing the truth of what happens to many of these most vulnerable children.

They are being exploited, abused, and trafficked.

Unaccompanied minors go into the Unaccompanied Children (UC) Program managed by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (OOR) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), an operational division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Once children enter OOR care, they are put in contact with their parents, guardians, or relatives, if known, and the process of finding a sponsor begins.

As of April 17, 2023, there are approximately 7,380 unaccompanied children in HHS care. The average length of time an unaccompanied child remains in ORR’s care is 25 days.

Tara Lee Rodas revealed in an interview that often, sponsors are typically not citizens, permanent residents, nor do they have a legal status in the U.S.

Minors are coming forward revealing their abuse. One young female explained that her sponsor was forcing her to engage in sexual acts for money. Antonio Diaz Mendez, a 14-year-old, claimed that he had to earn money to repay his debts and was working long shifts in a warehouse. He hadn’t seen his sponsor in months.

Due to the total chaos associated with processing over 6,000 illegal aliens each day, U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents simply do not have time to conduct thorough investigative interviews to develop the articulable suspicion of trafficking, or even assess a claimed family relationship with co-travelers in any meaningful way. In all but the most egregious events, agents are forced to accept the information being provided at face value.

It is also important to note that many victims of trafficking do not know they are being trafficked when they initially enter the country illegally. They are often still under the belief that the smuggler is just providing a service to get them into the U.S. under the radar. They don’t find out the truth until it is too late.

Under prior administrations, as the border security environment was constantly improving and illegal immigration was slowing down dramatically, agents had more time to conduct in-depth interviews and identify inconsistencies in claimed family members’ stories. Agents identified countless cases where they were able to get a child or adult to admit they were not related. We will never know for sure how many children were rescued before they were victimized further.

Chaos provides cover for all types of criminal activity. As a direct result of the catch-and-release polices implemented by the Biden administration, our international border with Mexico and our immigration process for unaccompanied alien children have devolved into total chaos. Chaos that is ripe for exploitation by human traffickers.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Deterrence policies and programs work. USBP has countless examples to show that if you simply enforce the law, hold people accountable and avoid releasing aliens into the U.S. until after a judge has adjudicated their case, cross border illegal entries dramatically decrease. This immediately increases the time that agents can investigate and mitigate more sophisticated criminal schemes like narcotics smuggling and human trafficking.

Some children are fortunate to make it out of these situations by running away and seeking help, or due to the diligent efforts of citizens who are paying attention—citizens like Jallyn Sualog, who was removed from her position at HHS after raising concerns over the phenomenon.

Tragically, there are likely hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of children who will be enslaved to labor and sex work for most of their lives.

A safe and secure border will help ensure children are less likely to be put in harm’s way and support a system that can more effectively place them in proper homes. Getting there will require bipartisan efforts to regain operational control of the border.

Once that is underway, substantial reform can be enacted to hold HHS more accountable to the children they are responsible for.

In the U.S., almost no group is more vulnerable to falling victim than children migrants who have no legal guardian to ensure their safety.

We must work toward restricting human trafficking by securing and maintaining our borders. Customs and Border Protection personnel should be given every tool at their disposal to intercept and stop human trafficking efforts, both at and between ports of entry.

Sen. Rick Scott Grills Mayorkas On All The Times The Biden Admin Spread ‘Disinformation’ thumbnail

Sen. Rick Scott Grills Mayorkas On All The Times The Biden Admin Spread ‘Disinformation’

By The Daily Caller

Republican Florida Sen. Rick Scott held Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ feet to the fire about “disinformation” spread by President Joe Biden’s administration during a Tuesday Senate hearing.

Scott paired his questioning of Mayorkas with a large poster board that listed several topics he alleges the Biden administration has lied about including border security, Hunter Biden’s laptop, the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Chinese spy balloon that traversed across the country in February, according to video from the hearing.

“There’s a whole bunch of people in the Biden administration who put out false narratives. They’ve said the border’s secure, they’ve said Hunter Biden’s laptop is not real. They’ve said the Afghanistan withdrawal was successful. They’ve said the Chinese spy balloon over the United States is not a threat,” Scott listed. “All that, as we all have found out, is untrue. Now we’ve learned from the Twitter Files is that government is working with and funds NGOs to censor millions of Americans via Big Tech in direct violation of our First Amendment rights.”

Scott also pressed Mayorkas about the DHS’ involvement with digital censorship, pointing several times to the Twitter Files saga that revealed how the U.S. government worked with social media companies to censor and monitor accounts

Mayorkas pushed back that the DHS does not “censor speech” and that he wanted “to nip that misimpression in the bud,” according to the video.

“We don’t do that and, I should say, that the personnel of the Department of Homeland Security … not only have unflinching dedication to missions, but also have unflinching dedication to the law that they enforce,” he said.

“Let’s just go to the facts,” Scott said. “The Biden administration has said all those things, and now Elon Musk has been clear that the Biden administration has had access to private messages … Twitter messages.”

Scott then grilled Mayorkas about whether or not he believed the Biden administration’s claims about the several national security examples, according to the video. Mayorkas did not immediately answer the question, but denied that DHS has access to monitor private Twitter messages unless it is vital to a criminal investigation.

“I can assure you that it is not our job, nor do we do it, to censor speech. What we do is we assess the threat landscape that this country confronts so that we can secure the homeland and protect the American people,” he said. “That’s what we do, and our Office of Intelligence and Analysis has a responsibility which it fulfills to understand that threat landscape, to understand what the threats are that we face.”

Mayorkas “would be concerned” with DHS employees reading private Twitter messages outside of a criminal investigation, he told Scott while clarifying that his opinion “is not informed by the law.” Any employee who violates the law is held accountable and “do not represent the workforce of the Department of Homeland Security,” he said.

Tuesday’s hearing was held by the Committee on Homeland Security & National Affairs about the DHS’ Fiscal Year 2024 budget, according to the committee website.

Why is President Biden Ignoring the Chinese Invasion at our Southern Border?

As many as 400,000 male military-aged Chinese nationals have illegally entered the US since President Biden took office. Why are they here? Where do their loyalties lie?

By @AMUSE

While the Biden administration is fixated on its proxy war in Ukraine, emptying both our ammunition stockpiles and our strategic petroleum reserve, China is quietly sending thousands of military-age males across our southern border. Just as the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, built his secret terracotta army to accompany him in the afterlife President Xi is building a secret modern-day terracotta army right here in our backyard. The question our policymakers should be asking is WHY?

It is virtually impossible for Chinese nationals to leave China without permission much less buy an airline ticket to Ecuador and pay the $10,000-$30,000 cartels charge to cross the border. To purchase an airline ticket to Ecuador Chinese nationals must have a passport and an exit visa. Fewer than 10% of Chinese nationals have a passport and it is practically impossible to get an exit visa without an act of God. Somehow thousands of military-age men from China are booking tickets to Ecuador with nothing more than a backpack and a passport. Once they reach Ecuador they are met by CCP-backed NGOs who arrange their travel to the US border. Given these facts, it is almost certain that China’s Ministry of State Security is organizing and funding the invasion. U.S. Customs and Border Protection estimate that for every four illegal migrants they apprehend as many as six make it across the border unmolested. 2  In fact, it is common practice for cartels to notify CBP where they are dropping illegal migrants off so they’ll know where the CBP won’t be active. The cartels are then free to move their most valuable cargo—Chinese nationals and fentanyl safely across the border. 3  It is estimated that fewer than 1 in 10 Chinese nationals crossing the border are apprehended. That means with as many as 90 Chinese nationals caught per day as many as 900 are making it into the US. 4  Unfortunately, the 90 that are caught are promptly released as they claim they are pro-democracy activists who would be killed if they returned to China. According to the CBP, there could be as many as 400,000 military-age men from China here in America with more arriving each day. 5 Once these Chinese nationals are in the US they are monitored and supervised by a network of Chinese aid organizations. Six years ago China’s Communist Party began a concerted program to fill both domestic and international NGOs with loyal party members in an effort to spread its influence and control. 6  Additionally, China has opened more than 100 police stations in countries around the world including the US. 7 In the US they’re typically called ‘aid stations’ and provide a connection between the hundreds of thousands of illegal Chinese nationals and the Communist Party—kidnapping and returning those that turn their back on the party. 8 The situation at our southern border is a humanitarian and economic crisis of epic proportions—but it is ALSO a huge security risk. The 400,000 military-aged males who have already arrived are just the tip of the iceberg as China has 34 million more men than women—men who desperately want a better life in America. But where are their true loyalties? What would happen if China decided to invade Taiwan? Could the 400,000 Chinese nationals living outside of the law here in the United States be activated? What are they capable of accomplishing? We’ve seen how easy it is to sabotage our power grids, water supply, and even railroads. 9  It is past time to secure our border and determine what risk the massive modern-day terracotta army Xi has built here in America poses to our national security.

Chinese suppliers, with unofficial approval from the Ministry of State Security, send various fentanyl precursors (ANPP and NPP) and synthetic opioids (U-47700) via cargo ships to Ecuador where the cartels process the precursors into saleable drugs bound for the US. 1  The cartels then charge as much as $30,000 to smuggle a single Chinese national along with fentanyl and/or fentanyl precursors through Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico. U.S. Customs and Border Protection estimate that for every four illegal migrants they apprehend as many as six make it across the border unmolested. 2  In fact, it is common practice for cartels to notify CBP where they are dropping illegal migrants off so they’ll know where the CBP won’t be active. ‘Brace For F*cking Impact’: Border Agents Are Being Told Very Little To Prepare For The End Of A Major Trump-Era Order

By The Daily Caller

  • Border Patrol agents are saying they aren’t getting much information regarding preparations for a major surge in illegal immigrants when Title 42, a major Trump-era expulsion order, ends May 11 and fear that chaos could ensue as a result, according to agents and internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) document obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
  • Title 42 was enacted to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and has resulted in the expulsion of more than 2.5 million illegal migrants at the southern border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) statistics.
  • “There are thousands and thousands just waiting for Title 42 to end. I would say a fear is that the Biden admin has no clue just how bad it’s going to get. We can barely actively patrol the border now. When Title 42 ends, all of our resources, all of our little manpower that we do have, are going to be focused on processing. Field work will nearly cease to exist in my opinion,” one Border Patrol agent working along the southern border told the DCNF.

Border Patrol agents are being given limited word on how to prepare for a flood of illegal immigrants when Title 42, a major Trump-era expulsion order, ends May 11, according to two agents who spoke anonymously with the Daily Caller News Foundation and an internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo.

President Joe Biden set the expiration of the COVID-19 emergencies, including Title 42, for May 11. The agents working the frontlines of the southern border had said they had very limited instructions about handling an expected surge of illegal immigrants come Title 42’s end and basically were just being told to mentally ready themselves for the worst in conversations with the DCNF.

One agent working along the southern border, who requested anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak, told the DCNF that the extent they were told about preparations was just to “brace for fucking impact” and to prepare to “weather the storm.”

With Title 42 in place, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has had record migrant encounters, with more than 2.3 million in fiscal year 2022 and more than one million between October and February.

A recent internal directive sent to some Department of Homeland Security officials that the DCNF exclusively obtained instructed agents to have “efficient cadence” for credible fear interviews (CFIs) to screen asylum claims and/or statements of fear of persecution, torture or similar threats.

“Due to the expected lifting of the currently operative CDC order, USBP and component partners must have an efficient cadence in place to be prepared to ramp up to USCIS conducting up to 1,000 CFIs per day in USBP’s short-term holding facilities for NCs across the Southwest Border,” the internal memo stated.

A second agent working along the southern border told the DCNF that it’s just a wait and see game, adding that there’s concern authorities won’t have the capacity or bandwidth to handle what’s to come.

“Most of the time, we are just told that Title 42 will end eventually and to be mentally prepared for the influx of migrants when it does. Regular line agents don’t seem to be offered an outline or plan as to how we will actually deal with the large numbers at the processing level,” the second agent said.

“Our facilities aren’t designed for large quantities of people. They are temporary housing facilities. When Title 42 is lifted, we will process them under immigration law, which governs when the migrants should be deported, detained, etc. We must also comply with U.S. asylum law, which will allow migrants to claim asylum, even when they entered illegally,” the second agent said.

The Biden administration is ignorant to the issue of an impending influx of illegal immigrants, the second agent explained.

“There are thousands and thousands just waiting for Title 42 to end. I would say a fear is that the Biden Admin has no clue just how bad it’s going to get. We can barely actively patrol the border now. When Title 42 ends, all of our resources, all of our little manpower that we do have, are going to be focused on processing. Field work will nearly cease to exist in my opinion,” the second agent said.

Republican states have challenged the Biden administration’s previous attempts to end Title 42, but the latest end to the public health emergency hasn’t faced any legal flack. DHS predicted that the end of Title 42 would usher in up to 14,000 illegal immigrants per day at the southern border,  a source familiar with the preparations told CNN.

To address the surge in anticipation of Title 42’s looming expiration, the Biden administration announced new measures in January to allow migrants amenable to the public health order opportunities to have an exception granting them entry via a phone application known as CBP One or through an airport on the grounds of humanitarian parole.

“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) continues to prepare for the end of the Title 42 public health order, which is currently the subject of multiple court orders, and a return to processing all noncitizens under the Department’s Title 8 immigration authorities,” DHS said in January.

DHS didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Arkansas House Urges Action on Terrorism on America’s Southern Border thumbnail

Arkansas House Urges Action on Terrorism on America’s Southern Border

By Center For Security Policy

It is often pointed out that Washington D.C. is out of touch—with the rest of America.

It’s not that elected officials in Washington don’t come up with good ideas; but between “The Swamp” running interference and leftist ideologues in the White House and Congress delaying or even killing legislation, so little seems to get done.

There are many people across America, including in Washington D.C., who understand the threats we face.

One of those is State Representative Marcus Richmond, a former Marine who serves as the House Majority Leader in the Arkansas House of Representatives. During the 2023 legislative session at the Arkansas state capitol in Little Rock, Richmond authored a resolution admonishing the U.S. government to do what so many Americans know is necessary.

House Resolution (HR) 1048 calls on the United States government to disrupt collaboration between drug cartels and terrorist organizations, declare fentanyl to be a weapon of mass destruction, and designate the Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

Drug overdoses have killed more than 100,000 Americans over the past year. 66% of the overdose deaths in the past year were related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl.

The DEA reports that Mexican drug cartels, including the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, import dangerous raw materials from Communist China, use them to produce deadly synthetic opioids at low cost, and unlawfully transport those opioids into the United States.

Both the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel have expanded their deadly business into the United States.

These foreign drugs have created twin public health and national security crises of unparalleled magnitude.

Over the past decade, Mexican drug cartels have developed well-organized armed forces to protect their reprehensible trade from rivals, from the Mexican government and from the U.S. DEA.

The existence of the cartels’ armed forces just across our southwestern land border and the Mexican government’s inability to control these forces pose a threat to our national security far greater than a typical drug-trafficking enterprise.

The threat to our national security is made greater still by the known links between the Mexican drug cartels and jihadist terror organizations like Hezbollah, who have already killed Americans and intend to do our country harm.

The Mexican drug cartels are essentially conducting chemical warfare on everyday Americans, affecting every community, town, and city across America.

The cartels are importing a chemical agent — fentanyl — into the United States that endangers the safety of the American people

The same cartels that produce and traffic this dangerous chemical are also assassinating rivals and Mexican officials, ambushing and killing Americans at the border, and engaging in an armed insurgency against the Mexican government.

It has prompted a bipartisan group of 18 state attorneys general to call on the Biden administration to declare fentanyl a weapon of mass destruction.

The catastrophic loss of life is intolerable, yet it has received an anemic response from the federal government.

Now Arkansas has called for a change…

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

THAT it is time to respond to these crises because our national security requires the United States Government to disrupt the collaboration between drug cartels and terrorist organizations.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the House of Representatives call on President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, and the United States Congress to treat fentanyl as the danger it truly is and declare it a weapon of mass destruction.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the House of Representatives request that the Sinaloa Cartel, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, and other similarly situated Mexican drug cartels be designated as foreign terrorist organizations under 8 U.S.C. § 1189.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be provided to President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, and the members of the Arkansas Congressional Delegation.

State Representative Richmond and the Arkansas House are to be commended on their strong stance. When it comes to matters of American national security, the security of our border, and the safety of our people, things are too important to be left up to Washington to fix… if they ever get around to it. More states need to follow Arkansas’ example and demand action on Fentanyl and the cartels.

Islamic Scholar Claims Muslim Migrants Only Accepted in Europe if They Say They’re Communists

In reality, all manner of Sharia-adherent Muslims are coming to Europe, and Europeans are bending over backwards to accommodate them.

Afghan Islamic Scholar Khalifa Deen Mohammad: Muslim Refugees In Europe Are Only Granted Asylum If They Conceal Their Faith, Have Sex With Women Sent By The Government To Test Them

MEMRI, March 23, 2023:

Afghan Islamic scholar Khalifa Deen Mohammad, the head of the Council of Religious Scholars of Kabul, said in a video posted to the @FahimShinwari14 Twitter account on March 23, 2023 that Muslims who go to Europe as refugees are only granted asylum if they conceal their Islamic faith and have sex with women sent by the government to test them.

Khalifa Deen Mohammad: “I heard some things in Mansehra [district] and then in public meetings. There, lots of people used to escape from [Afghan refugee] camps towards Europe. So I spoke some very harsh words [about] the extremely shameful points, so that people can learn a lesson. I [delivered] the speech, and when I came to the room, a cleric told me that what I said is true. He said that his nephew escaped to Europe without informing him. It has been eight years, but he is not accepted [as a refugee]. Why? Because to be accepted… The condition is… The rooms and guesthouses there are owned by the government, and if he says that he escaped from Muslims, they will kill him. You have to present yourself as a communist. This is the first condition.

“The second condition is that they send girls to your room at night to test you and see on what basis you have come. You cannot refuse to have sex with the girl or [say] that it is forbidden. If you refuse, she will spy on you and say that you’re a Muslim and are lying… There, only the AIDS cards work – AIDS is a disease caused by adultery, and people with AIDS have a card that they can present to the girls as an excuse, that they have AIDS and can transmit it to her. This is the only way they spare you. The cleric said that his nephew did not do these things, and this is why he has been there eight years and is not accepted [as a refugee]. [Asylum seekers] do everything for them. They work in hotels. If pig’s meat is cooked, they serve it to people.”

Joint Chiefs Chairman: ‘35,000 People a Week’ Crossing the SW Border. ‘That’s an Army.’ thumbnail

Joint Chiefs Chairman: ‘35,000 People a Week’ Crossing the SW Border. ‘That’s an Army.’

By The Geller Report

Male — young, fit, military age.

By: CNS News, April 2, 2023:

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas this week refused again to call the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border a “crisis,” but Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had no such reluctance when he testified before the House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday:

“So, there is a crisis at that border,” Milley said.

He was responding to a question about whether President Joe Biden has ever asked Milley for a briefing about national security threats at the southern border:

“I have been in several meetings and briefings, principals’ committees, and other forums specifically about the southern border…A couple of them were with the vice president and some discussions with the president,” Milley said.

“Now, if I could, look, at the southern border situation is a very serious situation, and you know it as well as I do.

“And that there’s some — I think it’s in the range — the reports I get is about 5,000 a day. You’re talking about 35,000 people a week. That’s an Army Corps that comes across that border.

“And then, with the fentanyl issue that you’re talking about, look, I don’t know what the exact numbers are. But, the ranges that have been reported to me is something between 70 and 100,000. That’s an enormous amount of casualties and people dying, young kids dying in our communities.

“So, there is a crisis at that border. Now, the question is what do you do about it? And we have to work much closer, I think anyway with Mexico. There’s certain things that have to be done along the border with the CPB and others. Now, that’s out of our lane. That’s DHS, et cetera.”

Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) said he was told by General Glen VanHerck, head of the U.S. Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command, that President Biden could ask the military to do more about border security, but Milley said he’d have to check with VanHerck about that:

“I personally think the primary, the lead, should be on the border itself, clearly law enforcement as opposed to the military,” Milley said.

“Now, mechanically could you line up divisions of troops? Of course you could. But, is that the right thing to do? Is that the right way to do it? And I would certainly advise against that.

We’ll execute whatever decisions are made. But, lining up –”

Over A Dozen Illegal Migrants Escaped From Border Patrol Bus, Union Says thumbnail

Over A Dozen Illegal Migrants Escaped From Border Patrol Bus, Union Says

By The Daily Caller

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to include additional information about the escape.

A group of illegal migrants from Venezuela broke out of a Border Patrol bus Wednesday and are currently unaccounted for in the city of El Paso, Texas, President for the National Border Patrol Council for the El Paso sector Durango Ayala told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

One Border Patrol agent, the driver, accompanied the group of 18 illegal migrants bound for expulsion under Title 42, a Trump-era order applied to certain nationalities in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, at the Stanton bridge commuter crossing, Ayala told the DCNF. As of late Wednesday, Ayala said the group escaped by kicking open a hatch in the bus, and was currently unaccounted for.

Two Border Patrol agents, who requested anonymity to speak publicly on the matter, confirmed the illegal migrants’ escape.

Having only one agent accompany the group was a violation of policy, Ayala said.

“The never-ending disregard to enforce immigration law by the current administration is causing frustration throughout CBP [Customs and Border Protection]. Overcrowded detention facilities and limited transportation is a daily occurrence,” a Border Patrol agent working in the El Paso sector, who requested anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly, told the DCNF. “Migrants that are still arriving at the southern border from the original surge invitation by the president are becoming impatient with extended processing times and turning frustrations against CBP personnel.”

“Damaging facilities, creating unrest and escaping while in custody are just a glimpse of what this president has allowed into our communities,” the agent added.

Venezuelans are currently expelled under Title 42 and face an entry ban of up to five years, according to CBP. The Biden administration plans to end Title 42 on May 11.

Migrants amenable to Title 42 have the option to apply for an exemption before entering the U.S. through the CBP One phone app. However, many have had issues with getting prompt appointments and avoiding glitches with the process.

The migrants’ frustrations with the process contributed to an incident in which hundreds of them stormed the Paso del Norte bridge in El Paso on March 12.

CBP recorded more than 2.3 million migrant encounters in fiscal year 2022 and another roughly 1 million between October 2022 and February 2023.

A CBP spokesperson didn’t respond to a request for comment about Wednesday’s incident.

Multiple Biden Calamities Make 9/11 Commission Report ‘Required Reading’ thumbnail

Multiple Biden Calamities Make 9/11 Commission Report ‘Required Reading’

By Michael Cutler

That multiple Biden policies and decisions have undermined national security and public safety has not been a surprise to anyone capable of being objective.

Consider Biden’s disastrous immigration policies that include eliminating border security and gutting the enforcement of our immigration laws from within the interior of the United States.

As a consequence of these policies unprecedented numbers of illegal aliens from countries around the world, were emboldened and encouraged to flock to the United States thus overwhelming the Border Patrol and also overwhelming the entire immigration system across our entire nation.  Among the millions of aliens who entered the United States were criminals and terrorists.

Our open borders have also enabled huge quantities of deadly illegal drugs to flow freely across our nation resulting in the deaths of record numbers of Americans.

Contrary to the bald-faced lies of Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) that our borders are secure, on March 15, 2023 The House Homeland Security Committee held a field hearing in McAllen, Texas, on the crisis on the border.

Incredibly no Democrat attended that hearing even though the Democrats did provide a witness for that hearing.  Joe Biden actually referred to that hearing as a “political stunt!”

C-SPAN posted a video of that hearing:

House Homeland Security Committee Field Hearing on Border Security, Part 1

Here is a brief video clip from that C-SPAN video of a statement by U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul L. Ortiz about the issue of border security:

User Clip: Chief Ortiz Admits No Operational Control over Border

Furthermore aliens do not only enter the United Stated by crossing our southern border and once in the United Staes an abject lack of interior enforcement means that aliens who violate our immigration laws have absolutely nothing to fear.

As I noted in a recent article:

Crisis On The Southern Border: Only The Tip of Biden’s Immigration Iceberg

Now let’s turn our attention to how Biden withdrew our military forces from Afghanistan, literally overnight, while leaving behind billions of dollars of U.S. military hardware and weaponry, capped off by the subsequent release of thousands of terrorists.

I articulate my concerns about the confluence of these two disastrous Biden calamities in two articles published in August 2022:

Biden’s Catastrophic Policies: Immigration and Afghanistan

Biden’s Afghanistan Catastrophe Increases Terror Threat in US

It now seems that because of Biden’s disastrous policies the terrorists are “coming home to roost.”

On March 16, 2023 Stars and Stripes Magazine published a worrisome article, ISIS in Afghanistan capable of foreign attacks in 6 months, CENTCOM commander says, that began with this except:

WASHINGTON — The Islamic State network in Afghanistan will be able to attack American or Western interests outside the country in less than six months “with little to no warning,” the top commander for U.S. forces in the Middle East said Thursday.

Army Gen. Michael Kurilla, who leads U.S. Central Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the Islamic State’s Khorasan Province, commonly referred to as ISIS-K, is rapidly developing the ability to conduct “external operations” in Europe and Asia.

The terrorist group will not be able to strike the U.S. homeland in the near future, however.

“I think it is a higher probability overseas than it is in the homeland,” Kurilla said, acknowledging hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizens living abroad could be in range of an attack.

The general’s assessment comes more than a year after U.S. troops withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021 and adopted an “over-the-horizon” counterterrorism approach that collects intelligence and carries out strikes without a permanent military presence in the country.

Even before the stupefyingly flawed manner in which our troops were withdrawn from Afghanistan by the Biden Administration, the “All Clear” concerning the threat of terror attacks had not sounded.  Indeed, since the terror attacks of 9/11 there had been numerous terror plots devised by foreign terrorists in the United States that resulted in loss of life while others failed for a number of reasons.

Furthermore while General Kurilla stated that he did not think that an attack on U.S. soil is imminent, given the huge numbers of aliens who have entered the United States including more than one million “Got-Aways” – aliens who evaded the Border Patrol.  (On January 22, 2023 Fox News reported: Border agents confirm 1.2 million ‘gotaway’ migrants under Biden administration.)

Our nation’s borders and immigration laws constitute America’s first line of defense and last line of defense.  A review of a section of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S. Code § 1182 (Inadmissible Aliens) enumerates the categories of aliens who may not be admitted into the United State and makes it clear that immigration law enforcement has nothing to do with race, religion or ethnicity but is focused on protection public safety, national security and the jobs and wages of American workers.

Nevertheless, since even before being sworn into office, Joe Biden made it clear that as President he would not secure our borders or enforce our immigration laws, thereby encouraging unprecedented levels of illegal immigration and the influx of record quantities of illegal deadly drugs such as fentanyl, meth and other drugs to flow freely into the United States leading to the deaths of more than 100,000 people to drug poisoning annually.

My December 7, 2020 commentary, Biden’s DHS: Department of Homeland Surrender, was predicated on the announcement that Alejandro Mayorkas would be the incoming Biden Administration’s pick for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  Mayorkas’ performance at the DHS during the the Obama administration evidenced repeated examples of malfeasance.

The bi-partisan 9/11 Commission was created in the wake of the deadly terror attacks of September 11, 2001 to “connect the dots” and identify the multiple vulnerabilities the terrorists exploited to enter the United States and launch the deadliest terror attacks ever carried out on U.S. soil.

Therefore The 9/11 Commission Report and the official companion report, 9/11 and  Terrorist Travel should be “mandatory reading” for the President, the Vice President and every cabinet officer and their high-ranking deputies.  Those reports should also be mandatory ready for every member of the House and Senate and their senior staffers.  Finally those reports should be on the mandatory reading list for every governor, mayor and police chief.

The findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission should have served as the guidebook for actions of every administration since the 9/11 Commission made their findings and recommendations known.

This is not unlike the ways that other such investigative commissions were created to prevent future disasters.  For example, commissions were created to discover how and why two space shuttles were lost in tragic accidents.  As a result of the findings of those commissions changes were made to the shuttles and operating procedures were modified..

When airliners crash the FAA and the NTSB investigate the cause(s) of every crash to see if changed nee to be made in the way airplanes are constructed, maintained and flown.

The point is to learn from what goes wrong.  My dad taught me that in life things that go wrong should be viewed not simply as mistakes, but as lessons that teach us how to do things better and safer.  However, for my dad, it was unforgivable and inexcusable to refuse to learn from mistakes.

The point to this exercise was not just to answer a multitude of questions, but to devise strategies to close the gaping holes in various system to prevent future such attacks.

Instead, particularly where immigration-related issues were concerned, each administration, with the exception of the Trump administration, utterly ignored the 9/11 Commission and, indeed, frequently implemented policies that were diametrically opposed to those findings and recommendations.

This brings us to the Biden administration, particularly where the administration’s immigration policies are concerned.  It would seem that the Biden administration has made the willful decision to devise and promulgate policies, with impunity,  that are in direct opposition to the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.

Individuals who hold positions of authority make decisions that cause injury and/or death are held accountable.  Think of how police officers are investigated and, when appropriate, prosecuted.  Think about the ramifications that doctors and health care professionals face when they are found guilty of medical malpractice.

Drivers who drive under the influence and/or drive recklessly also face severe consequences, especially when their actions kill or injure others.

Should not politicians who govern recklessly or demonstrate blatant malfeasance governing “under the influence” of campaign contributions or morally bankrupt political ideologies to garner political power that undermine national security, public safety and cost innocent victims their very lives be similarly held accountable?

In the weeks and months after the terror tracks of 9/11 there was no shortage of politicians who flocked to podiums festooned with a forest of microphones, eager to stare into the television cameras, thump the podium and demanded, “Why did no one connect the dots?”

The 9/11 Commission and the reports it produced certainly connected the dots.  Many congressional hearings were also convened to “connect the dots”- in point of fact I was called to testify before quite a few of those very hearings.

Now politicians who blatantly ignore the 9/11 Commission and its findings must be held accountable before the next terror attack.

U.S. to Spend $50 Million on “Post-Release Services” for Migrant Youths thumbnail

U.S. to Spend $50 Million on “Post-Release Services” for Migrant Youths

By Judicial Watch

As part of the red carpet rollout for illegal immigrants the Biden administration is dedicating tens of millions of dollars to provide migrant youths with a multitude of services once they are released from government shelters. This includes medical, educational, legal and an array of other services. American taxpayers will also fund detailed home studies by deploying case managers to conduct intensive in-home engagements and virtual check-ins to ensure the safety and continued support for the young migrants and the families they have been released to. On its face the program for migrant youth—officially labeled Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) by the government—appears to be superior to the system that manages hundreds of thousands of U.S. children in similar situations, such as foster care.

Private and public educational institutions, small businesses, city and county governments, tribal organizations as well as nonprofits will receive government funding to assure UAC are well taken care off. The money will flow through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is charged with caring for illegal aliens under the age of 18. In a recent grant announcement the agency’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) reveals that it will allocate $50 million—and possibly up to $300 million—for the Home Study (HS) and Post-Release Services (PRS) for unaccompanied children. “PRS providers will be charged with a scope of services that includes three levels – virtual check-ins, case management services, and intensive in-home engagements,” the grant document states. “ORR provides Home Studies and PRS nationwide and needs HS/PRS providers to serve both high-need and remote locations where sponsors of unaccompanied children reside.” The agency encourages providers located in or near geographic areas where UAC are commonly unified with sponsors to apply.

HHS has spent a fortune to care for the onslaught of mostly Central American youths that have crossed into the U.S. through the Mexican border. Typically those under 18 are welcomed with open arms and hundreds of thousands have entered the country in the last few years. HHS spends billions of dollars annually to house, medically treat, entertain, and school UAC and the agency funds and oversees dozens of state-licensed care facilities to house the young migrants when they arrive in the U.S. As of January 27, 2023, there are approximately 7,565 UAC in HHS care, according to the latest agency figures. In fiscal year 2021 ORR housed an unprecedented 122,731 UAC. In fiscal year 2022, a record 149,000 UAC were apprehended by federal agents. The overwhelming majority of UAC in U.S. custody, approximately 72%, are over 14 years of age and 66% are male. Nearly half (47%) came from Guatemala, 32% from Honduras, 13% from El Salvador and 8% from other countries.

Since illegal immigrant minors are almost always allowed to remain in the U.S. and are quickly disbursed to a government-funded shelter upon arrival at the border, security screening is dismal. The flawed system has allowed hardcore criminals and violent gangbangers to slip through. For instance, a teenage Salvadoran gang member recently arrested for the murder of a Maryland woman came to the U.S. as a UAC. A few years ago two UAC were charged with raping a 14-year-old girl in the bathroom of a Maryland public high school. The illegal immigrants were both charged with first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sexual offense. Both were in the ninth grade like their victim. One came from El Salvador and the other from Guatemala. A year earlier two UAC, both 17, from Central America executed a Massachusetts man by shooting him in the head shortly after being welcomed into the U.S. by the Obama administration. Both had ties to the notoriously violent street gang Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), authorities disclosed at the time. The media described the violent gangbangers as “baby-faced boys.”

Shortly after the first batch of UAC arrived in mid-2014, Judicial Watch reported that many had ties to gang members in the U.S., specifically MS-13. Homeland Security sources directly involved with the border crisis told Judicial Watch that street gangs, including MS-13, went on a recruiting frenzy at U.S. shelters housing the migrant youths and Red Cross phones were used to communicate. The MS-13 is a feared street gang of mostly Central American illegal immigrants that has spread throughout the U.S. and is renowned for drug distribution, murder, rape, robbery, home invasions, kidnappings, vandalism, and other violent crimes. The Justice Department’s National Gang Intelligence Center (NGIC) says criminal street gangs like the MS-13 are responsible for most violent crimes in the U.S. and are the primary distributors of most illicit drugs.

NY: Muslim told cops ‘I will crucify Yonkers cops and their bosses. It will be a horror scene…Allahu Ekberr’

He also called for “jihad” and “war against non-Muslims.” Why haven’t the multitudes of moderate Muslim spokesmen in the U.S. gone to Yonkers to explain to Ridon Kola how he is misunderstanding the Religion of Peace?

Meanwhile, where did Kola get this crucifixion idea? Could it have been from here? “The only reward for those who make war upon Allah and his messenger and struggle to sow corruption on earth will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off on opposite sides, or be expelled from the land. Such will be their degradation in this world, and in the hereafter, theirs will be an awful doom.” (5:33)

ISIS lover busted for plotting to kill cops on street of Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day parade

by Craig McCarthy and Steven Vago, New York Post, March 17, 2023:

An ISIS-loving radical Islamic extremist from Yonkers was busted by the feds Friday for plotting to kill the city’s police officers and mayor beginning on the street where the local St. Patrick’s Day parade was set to go down, authorities said Friday.

Ridon Kola, 32, directly messaged the Yonkers police, saying “I will crucify Yonkers cops and their bosses all along McLean ave. It will be a horror scene . . . Allahu Ekberr,” according to federal authorities.

Though Kola didn’t directly threaten the parade, McLean Avenue is the street where the city’s St. Patrick’s Day event is scheduled for Saturday — and it prompted officials to quickly bust him Friday so he couldn’t do any damage at the event.

“Yonkers is proud to host one of New York’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parades and threats like this will not intimidate us from celebrating the many contributions of our Irish American community,” Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano tweeted after the bust.
Kola was arrested and charged with making threatening interstate communications, according to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams.

On multiple occasions, Kola had posted disturbing posts online, including support for a “jihad,” or “to war against non-Muslims,” the feds allege. He also voiced support for extremists from the Islamic State.

The messages apparently went on for years. In 2021, he posted one to an official Yonkers police social media account written in Albanian that read “I am going to slaughter you little girls.”

Then on March 9 sent a direct message to the police account that read “First people to be crucified will be the Yonkers rats Vallahi. Allahu Ekberr.” That message came along with the one referencing killing cops on McLean Avenue.

The joint terrorism task force arrested Kola Friday morning, according to the indictment.

A woman who exited their Yonkers home where an Albanian flag was hanging in the window on Friday threatened to “press charges” against a Post reporter.

“There’s nothing to report. Don’t make me press charges against you. You better step off my property,” snapped the woman, who neighbors identified as Kola’s sister.

Neighbors described Kola as a quiet man.

“He’s never exhibited weird behavior to me,” said Norina, a neighbor who only gave her first name. “He was never creepy. He was normal….

February Border Encounters Show Illegal Immigration Isn’t Abating, It’s Just Being Rerouted thumbnail

February Border Encounters Show Illegal Immigration Isn’t Abating, It’s Just Being Rerouted

By Federation for American Immigration Reform

Washington, D.C. — The Biden administration’s new “border enforcement measures” have not succeeded in curbing record levels of illegal immigration, they’ve just rerouted much of the flow through legal ports of entry, charged the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data, released Thursday, reveals that the total number of border encounters in February, 212,266, remained at historic high levels. But due to the Biden administration’s flagrant abuse of parole authority, 83,389 illegal migrants were encountered at legal ports of entry by the Office of Field Operations (OFO), instead of attempting to enter between ports of entry.

“The Biden administration is blatantly attempting to deceive the American public into believing they have illegal immigration under control,” said Dan Stein, president of FAIR. “While boasting that ‘only’ 128,877 migrants were encountered by Border Patrol entering between ports of entry in February, OFO encountered 83,389 illegal aliens, and allowed many to enter the country under the administration’s expansive and illegal use of parole authority. The net effect is the same; it just doesn’t look as bad.”

The release of the February data comes one day after Raul Ortiz, Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, testified before the House Homeland Security Committee that the federal government does not have “operational control” of the southern border – a statutorily defined requirement that his agency is obligated to meet. Moreover, Chief Ortiz asserted that operational control is not even a goal of this administration and, instead, the agency’s “new strategy is geared toward mission advantage” – an entirely made-up standard that has no legal definition.

“Even CBP’s efforts to mask the scope of illegal migration by moving 83,389 illegal entries off-the-books, does not tell the full story of the Biden administration’s disastrous border policies,” Stein continued. “The number of people who elude apprehension remains high, while lethal narcotics, including fentanyl, continues to pour across the southern border, where criminal cartels maintain clear ‘mission advantage.’

“No matter how CBP tries to spin it, the February numbers make it clear that the Biden administration is not turning the tide on illegal immigration. And, as the Biden administration is set to end the use of Title 42 in May, the last remaining mechanism in place to turn back migrants at the border, the crisis is likely to get a whole lot worse,” Stein concluded.

Biden’s Migrant Catch-and-Release Policy Unlawful, Trump-Appointed Judge Rules thumbnail

Biden’s Migrant Catch-and-Release Policy Unlawful, Trump-Appointed Judge Rules

By Judicial Watch

The Biden administration has turned the southwest border into a meaningless line in the sand and little more than a speedbump for aliens flooding into the country, according to a scathing federal court order blasting the president’s controversial catch-and-release policy. Known as Parole Plus Alternative to Detention (Parole+ATD) the program released over a million illegal immigrants in the U.S. in a year, supposedly tracking them with technology and other tools. Florida officials filed a lawsuit in 2021, accusing the Biden administration of violating immigration laws with policies that freed illegal aliens from detention after entering the country via the Mexican border. The state alleged that releasing illegal immigrants impacts it because about 100,000 ended up in Florida, increasing healthcare, education, and criminal justice costs.

A federal judge agreed with officials in the Sunshine State, ruling this month that the Biden administration is responsible for the southwest border crisis and that it is to blame for the influx of migrants. In his 109-page order the judge, T. Kent Wetherell of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, writes this: “Defendants have effectively turned the Southwest Border into a meaningless line in the sand and little more than a speedbump for aliens flooding into the country by prioritizing “alternatives to detention” over actual detention and by releasing more than a million aliens into the country—on “parole” or pursuant to the exercise of “prosecutorial discretion” under a wholly inapplicable statute—without even initiating removal proceedings.” Rejecting the government’s rationale for the outrageous policy, the Trump-appointed jurist likens it to “a child who kills his parents and then seeks pity for being an orphan.”

The lashing continues in the lengthy decision, which was delivered after a weeklong trial in January. Biden’s open border policies are akin to posting a flashing “come in, we’re open sign on the Southern border,” Judge Wetherell writes. “The unprecedented ‘surge’ of aliens that started arriving at the Southwest border almost immediately after President Biden took office and that has continued unabated over the past two years was a predictable consequence of these actions.” The judge cites Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz’s testimony revealing that the current surge in migrants differs from prior surges he has seen over his lengthy career in that most of the border crossers are turning themselves in to federal agents rather than trying to escape. “It is reasonable to infer (and just plain common sense) that aliens are doing this because they are aware that they will be expeditiously processed and released into the country,” the order states, adding that “indeed, on this point, Chief Ortiz credibly opined based on his experience that the aliens are likely turning themselves in because they think they’re going to be released.”

Ruling that Biden’s catch-and-release policy is unlawful, Judge Wetherell gives the administration seven days to comply with federal immigration law. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, who filed the lawsuit, said the ruling affirms what we have known all along, that Biden is responsible for the border crisis and his unlawful immigration policies make the U.S. less safe. “A federal judge is now ordering Biden to follow the law,” Moody said in a statement, adding that “his administration should immediately begin securing the border to protect the American people.” A former state judge and federal prosecutor who tried drug, firearm, and fraud crimes, Moody and her legal team presented the court with evidence that the Biden administration purposely reduced Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) holding capacity and narrowed removal pathways to force the release of hundreds of thousands of migrants into the U.S.

Besides recently being ruled illegal by a federal court, a former senior advisor at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says the ATD program has proven to be a “costly failure” and thousands of illegal aliens disappear from monitoring every year. “The goal should be to quickly determine whether these individuals have a valid case, and if not, to quickly deport them,” the former DHS advisor, Jon Feere, says in a news article. In the same story former acting ICE director Ron Vitiello says that ATD is popular among the left and sounds great, but the reality is illegal immigrants in the program will likely never be deported.

Mexico: 13 Migrants from Islamic Republic of Mauritania Detained in Border Town

By Jihad Watch

“This is a global problem, it shows there are no adequate or safe ways for people fleeing a conflict or persecution to come to Mexico and the United States, they have to depend on organized crime.”

Well, gee, that’s a shame, but exactly what conflict or persecution are they feeling in Mauritania?

“These groups of migrants are considered vulnerable because of the language barrier and other factors including religious persecution.”

What religious persecution do they face?

Above all, why did these men travel to the border? What did they intend to do?

13 Mauritanian migrants mistakenly arrested in Tijuana

by Salvador Rivera, Border Report, March 2, 2023:

TIJUANA (Border Report) — Tijuana police detained 13 migrants from the small Muslim nation of Mauritania when officers raided a hotel earlier this week.

Migrants from this Northwest African country, officially known as the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, have rarely, if ever, been encountered in Tijuana, according to migrant advocates.

Initially, police said officers became suspicious when they saw a few men scatter and run into the property of the Hotel Jacuzzys.

The men were taken into custody, and their booking photos were released to the media.

After translators were called in, it was determined that the men were migrants who were being forced to stay at the hotel by a smuggling organization.

“It was a case of a rescue,” said Soraya Vazquez, a human rights activist in Tijuana.

Vazquez says the police department did not handle the situation properly….

“This is a global problem, it shows there are no adequate or safe ways for people fleeing a conflict or persecution to come to Mexico and the United States, they have to depend on organized crime.”

The 13 Mauritanian nationals have been turned over to the National Institute of Migration in Tijuana and are being detained because they have yet to prove they entered Mexico legally.

“These groups of migrants are considered vulnerable because of the language barrier and other factors including religious persecution,” Vazquez said….

As Fentanyl Deaths Reach Historic Highs, White House Claims Fentanyl at Border Is at ‘Historic Lows’ thumbnail

As Fentanyl Deaths Reach Historic Highs, White House Claims Fentanyl at Border Is at ‘Historic Lows’

By Family Research Council

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre asserted that the level of fentanyl present at America’s southern border is currently “at historic lows.” Amid calls for the Biden administration to secure the border after the deaths of two kidnapped Americans in Mexico at the hands of a drug cartel, observers are pointing to vast increases in overdose deaths and human trafficking under President Biden’s watch.

As news spread of the murders of two Americans and the recovery of two others after the four were kidnapped in Mexico by members of a drug cartel in the border city of Matamoros, Jean-Pierre attempted to draw attention to the Biden administration’s efforts to enforce the law at the southern border. “Because of the work that this President has done, because of what we’ve done specifically on fentanyl at the border, it’s at historic lows,” she said at a Tuesday press briefing.

Observers were quick to question the validity of Jean-Pierre’s claim. National Review’s Jim Geraghty pointed to reports showing that “In 2021, 70,601 people died from a fentanyl overdose in the US. That figure is up 25 percent from 2020 and is nearly double the amount of fentanyl overdose deaths in 2019. … Fentanyl overdose deaths in 2021 were over 26 times higher than a decade prior.” The report further indicated that “fentanyl stands out for an 800 percent increase in overdose deaths in just four years.”

Geraghty went on to observe that Jean-Pierre may have been referring to an increase in seizures of fentanyl by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) which soared from 4,800 pounds in fiscal year 2020 to 11,200 pounds in 2021 to 14,700 pounds in 2022. In just the first four months of fiscal year 2023, 12,500 pounds have been seized. “But the rising amount of fentanyl seized at the border is also an indicator that more fentanyl is coming across the border,” Geraghty noted.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has reported that the amount of fentanyl seized in 2022 amounted to “50.6 million fentanyl-laced, fake prescription pills and more than 10,000 pounds of fentanyl powder. … The DEA Laboratory estimates that these seizures represent more than 379 million potentially deadly doses of fentanyl.” Notably, the DEA also reported that “[m]ost of the fentanyl trafficked by the Sinaloa and CJNG Cartels is being mass-produced at secret factories in Mexico with chemicals sourced largely from China.”

On Wednesday, Congressman Pat Fallon (R-Texas) joined “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” to discuss the Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis.

“I met with the DEA a couple of weeks ago, and they say, ‘It’s a matter of accepted fact that the more drugs being seized, it’s just merely a percentage of what’s getting through,” he observed. “So it’s not a good thing. … And for unfortunate proof of that fact: we lost 108,000 Americans to opioid overdoses, [including] 80,000 to fentanyl just last year. That’s a record high. So the Biden administration doesn’t want to talk about 108,000 Americans dying. They want to talk about seizures.”

Fallon went on to assert that “the Mexican drug cartels do present a clear and present danger to the United States — they make about $25 billion [per year] in narcotics trafficking. They’re making about $12 billion [additionally] in human smuggling.”

Observers are pointing to an increase in human trafficking at the border since Biden took office in January 2021 following his administration’s reversal of a series of Trump-era restrictions on immigration. The Heritage Foundation’s Hannah Davis has found that in the last fiscal year, human trafficking arrests “rose 50%; convictions soared by 80%. The vast majority, 72%, of those trafficked in the U.S. are immigrants. Most of them are here illegally.”

Davis, a researcher at Heritage’s Border Security and Immigration Center, also pointed to a study that found that “60% of unaccompanied alien children [UACs] are caught by cartels and exploited through child pornography and drug trafficking.” She further found that in January 2023, “5,882 UACs crossed the border — an increase of more than 80% over the number logged by the Trump administration in January 2020.”

“[Biden] is facilitating the largest human smuggling operation in human history,” Fallon declared. “His policies have enriched the cartels. Their profits are up approximately 50%.”

He further explained the link between drug and human smuggling that the cartels employ. “They’ll have a bunch of illegal migrants, and they’ll exploit them by charging them about $3-4,000 a head. So that’s a direct payment to the cartels. And then they’ll say, ‘Okay, you 500 go across now.’ So they’ll flood a sector knowing that a mile or two down the road in about an hour, all of the Customs and Border Patrol’s resources are going to be sent to deal with the 500 illegal migrants, and then they just sneak across their narcotics. So one hand is pretty much washing the other.”

In light of the ongoing border crisis, the Biden administration appears to be rethinking at least a part of their immigration policies. On Wednesday, reports surfaced that the White House is considering reinstating a policy that would detain illegal border crossers, which is angering some Democrats on the Hill who say the administration’s “lack of communication on immigration-related policy decisions is an insult.”

Federal Judge Strikes Down Key Biden Border Policy: ‘Speedbump For Aliens’ thumbnail

Federal Judge Strikes Down Key Biden Border Policy: ‘Speedbump For Aliens’

By The Daily Caller

A federal judge has struck down a Biden administration immigration policy that allows the release of illegal aliens at the border, saying it “effectively turned the Southwest Border into a meaningless line in the sand.”

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody filed the lawsuit in September 2021, arguing that Biden administration policies allowing the mass release of illegal aliens throughout the country—some of whom end up in Florida—violates law established by Congress that mandates detention upon entry. Judge T. Kent Wetherell ruled in favor of Florida, finding the administration’s Parole and Alternative to Detention (Parole + ATD) policy to be unlawful.

The policy, he said, turns the border into “little more than a speedbump for aliens flooding into the country by prioritizing ‘alternatives to detention’ over actual detention and by releasing more than a million aliens into the country—on ‘parole’ or pursuant to the exercise of ‘prosecutorial discretion’ under a wholly inapplicable statute—without even initiating removal proceedings.”

Shortly after taking office, Biden took a series of actions to loosen immigration restrictions, including repealing President Trump’s Executive Order 13767 terminating the catch-and-release policy.

“Collectively, these actions were akin to posting a flashing ‘Come In, We’re Open’ sign on the southern border,” Judge T. Kent Wetherell wrote. “The unprecedented ‘surge’ of aliens that started arriving at the Southwest Border almost immediately after President Biden took office and that has continued unabated over the past two years was a predictable consequence of these actions.”

Evidence supports the fact that over 100,000 illegal aliens ended up in Florida, Wetherell said.

“Today’s ruling affirms what we have known all along, President Biden is responsible for the border crisis and his unlawful immigration policies make this country less safe,” Attorney General Moody said in a statement. “A federal judge is now ordering Biden to follow the law, and his administration should immediately begin securing the border to protect the American people.”

The Biden administration has seven days to appeal the ruling. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

American Red Cross Packets Show Migrants Where To Cross The U.S. Border thumbnail

American Red Cross Packets Show Migrants Where To Cross The U.S. Border

By The Daily Caller

  • The Red Cross has guides for U.S.-bound migrants that include a map to the border, resources along the journey and a paper on what to do when encountering the dangers along the journey, according to documents obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
  • The American Red Cross sits on the board of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Food and Shelter program, which allocates millions of dollars in U.S. taxpayer funding to nonprofit groups supporting illegal migrants released into the U.S.
  • “If you use contraceptives methods, don’t forget to bring them with you. In necessary cases, some Red Cross’ clinics and medical brigades will give them to you for free,” one of the documents for migrants states.

The American Red Cross has maps and guides for migrants to make the dangerous journeys to the U.S.-Mexico border, according to documents exclusively obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The map, which is part of a packet stamped with the International Committee of the Red Cross and American Red Cross logos, shows a list of resources, including hotels, clinics and shelters where migrants can get support in Mexico and Central America. The maps include clearly defined lines leading to cities along the U.S. border. The organization also has a guide to “self care” along the journey, which includes tips on how to survive the desert and disease, how to safely jump on trains, and how to obtain contraceptives.

The U.S. government tasks the American Red Cross, whose logo is on the guide for migrants south of the border, with allocating millions of dollars in taxpayer funds to support illegal migrants released into the country.

The American Red Cross sits on the board of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Food and Shelter Program and is tasked with allocating funding to nongovernmental groups supporting the illegal migrants. The FEMA program received $350 million from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in February; the American Red Cross is tasked, along with other NGOs, with allocating some of those funds to support migrants after they’ve crossed the southern border and are processed with a court date.

The organization is not only facilitating help for illegal migrants in the U.S., but appears to be helping migrants make their journeys far south of the border. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has recorded a record surge in illegal migration at the southern border, where federal authorities encountered more than 2.3 million migrants in fiscal year 2022 and more than 870,000 between October and January.

The map the organization provides shows routes to popular border cities in the U.S., which includes El Paso, Texas; Nogales, Arizona; and McAllen, Texas.

The guides also appear to acknowledge that the journey to the U.S. for migrants is dangerous.

Many migrants from countries beyond Central America travel through Panama’s Darien Gap, where Panamanian authorities say there have been 50 known migrant deaths in 2022, according to the Los Angeles Times. Between May and September 2021, there were 180 known cases of rape in the Darien Gap, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The Red Cross’ guide provides migrants with the tools to encounter deadly and treacherous situations, including providing contraceptives.

“If you use contraceptives methods, don’t forget to bring them with you. In necessary cases, some Red Cross’ clinics and medical brigades will give them to you for free,” the self care document states.

The document also provides guidance on navigating the desert and jumping on top of cargo trains, which are known as “La Bestia,” or “the beast,” that transits north through Mexico.

“In the desert during the day, temperatures are extreme. Seek to bring with you lots of potable water, pants and long sleeves to protect you from the sun and maintain the sweat humidity. Also take with you warm clothes, gloves to protect your hands and a flashlight and matches,” the guide states.

“Traveling seated (on trains) is the most recommended. Be careful on your trip, there are branches, electric cables, tunnels that can hit you. Accommodate yourself where you have supporting points,” it adds.

The United Nations (UN) recorded 7,000 migrant deaths between 2014 and 2022 in the Americas, 4,694 of whom were heading to the U.S. There were also 4,000 migrant deaths recorded in the U.S. during that same time period.

The International Committee of the Red Cross did not dispute the documents when reached for comment.

“Every day around the world, people make the difficult decision to leave their homes and their countries in pursuit of a safer place to live and hope for a better future. Families migrate for different reasons, such as conflict, violence, natural disasters, or other reasons. The International Committee of the Red Cross, as a part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, does not prevent nor does it encourage migration. We aim to help prevent and mitigate the humanitarian consequences that migration can bring – including separation and loss of family contacts, disappearances, serious medical issues and even death,” an International Committee of the Red Cross spokesperson told the DCNF.

“Our approach to migrants is strictly humanitarian. We provide information about ways to reduce risk and where to find lifesaving assistance in Mexico and Central America. It is essential to prevent the loss of lives and to promote a humanitarian approach. Addressing the needs of this vulnerable population is a shared responsibility, of the authorities in the countries of origin, transit and destination, and of the international community,” the spokesperson added.

Cost Study: Illegal Immigration Now Costs American Taxpayers At Least $151 Billion a Year thumbnail

Cost Study: Illegal Immigration Now Costs American Taxpayers At Least $151 Billion a Year

By Federation for American Immigration Reform

Washington, D.C. — A new report by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) finds that, as of 2022, American taxpayers shell out at least $151 billion each year to cover the cost of illegal immigration. Broken down, the data reveals that taxpayers pay $182 billion annually to provide services and benefits to illegal aliens and their dependents. These costs are offset by about $31 billion in taxes that are collected from the estimated 15.5 million illegal aliens living in the United States, bringing the net cost to $150.7 billion annually.

  • At the start of 2023, the net cost of illegal immigration for the United States – at the federal, state, and local levels – was at least $150.7 billion.
  • FAIR arrived at this number by subtracting the tax revenue paid by illegal aliens – just under $32 billion – from the gross negative economic impact of illegal immigration, $182 billion.
  • In 2017, the estimated net cost of illegal migration was approximately $116 billion. In just 5 years, the cost to Americans has increased by nearly $35 billion.
  • Illegal immigration costs each American taxpayer $1,156 per year.
  • Each illegal alien or U.S.-born child of illegal aliens costs the U.S. $8,776 annually.
  • Evidence shows that tax payments by illegal aliens cover only around a sixth of the costs they create at all levels in this country.
  • A large percentage of illegal aliens who work in the underground economy frequently avoid paying any income tax at all.
  • Many illegal aliens actually receive a net cash profit through refundable tax credit programs.

The 2022 costs represent a 30 percent increase to taxpayers in just five years. A former version of this study, conducted in 2017 by FAIR, placed the annual net cost of illegal immigration at $116 billion. Most of the additional costs have been added in the past two years, as the Biden administration’s de facto open borders policies have triggered a historic surge of new illegal migrants pouring across our borders. Moreover, the updated price tag of $151 billion is a conservative estimate as there are additional costs incurred from illegal immigration, but there is currently insufficient data to provide reliable cost estimates.

FAIR’s comprehensive analysis looks at available federal, state, and local programs and services that are directly accessible to illegal aliens, or indirectly, through their U.S.-born children who qualify for all means-tested programs. In addition to the surge of illegal immigration since 2021, state and local governments have offered a variety of new benefits and services to illegal aliens, which have exacerbated the situation for struggling taxpayers.

Among the key findings in FAIR’s report, The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on United States Taxpayers:

  • The gross annual cost of illegal immigration (the total amount before taxes paid by illegal aliens are factored in) is now $182 billion, annually.
  • Taxes paid by illegal aliens only cover around 17.2 percent of the costs they create for American citizens, bringing the net cost to $150.7 billion a year.
  • The largest component of the cost is K-12 education, which must be provided under a 1982 Supreme Court ruling. The annual K-12 education cost for illegal aliens (and their U.S.-born children) is $78 billion, of which $70.4 billion is borne by states and localities.
  • Health care for illegal aliens costs taxpayers about $42.7 billion annually.
  • A variety of food assistance and nutritional programs used by illegal aliens and their children cost taxpayers about $13.5 billion annually.
  • Combined federal, state, and local criminal justice costs associated with illegal immigration run about $47 billion annually – not including the cost of damages to victims.

“As America struggles to meet countless societal needs while facing the realities of our staggering $31 trillion national debt, the costs of providing for millions of people who have no legal right to be in the United States continues to grow at an alarming rate,” commented Dan Stein, president of FAIR. “To be clear, most of this enormous financial burden has been inflicted on taxpayers by the open borders advocates at every level of government. Not only is the Biden administration refusing to rein-in illegal immigration or remove the people who are breaking our laws, they are promulgating policies that actually encourage more of it while offering new protections and benefits to those who settle here illegally. Likewise, a growing number of states and localities create their own costly magnets for illegal aliens by declaring themselves sanctuaries and offering new benefits and services. This has to stop.”

“The American people viscerally understand that no nation can flourish without controlling its borders and enforcing its immigration laws. The purpose of this report is to provide them with the true costs of these ruinous policies — $150.7 billion a year and growing with no inclination on the part of the current administration to address the problem,” Stein concluded.
