Ordinary Russians took to the streets yesterday to protest Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. At least 1,700 people were arrested in some 50 different cities all over Russia. This is extraordinary because spontaneous mass demonstrations are illegal in Russia and protesters can be jailed and fined. People in Russia do not have the same free speech rights we have here in America.
Ah yes, America where people are forgetting why we have free speech in the first place, and increasing numbers of people are willing to throw free expression out the window if anyone says anything offensive, or something that goes against the grain. Recent news stories show you we cannot take free speech rights and our tradition of free expression for granted.
DHS recently issued an assessment of terrorism threats in the U.S. Instead of focusing on actual terrorists, the assessment indicates the federal government is now worried about ordinary people spreading information the government deems harmful or false. As I’ve explained previously, there are very good reasons not to put the government in charge of deciding what is true and what is false. We really do not want the government deciding we are domestic terrorists because we think there were big problems in the 2020 election, we make fun of public health authorities who contradict themselves all the time on COVID, or we object to pornography in schools. Yet, this seems to be what DHS is suggesting is now the primary focus of government anti-terrorism efforts. DHS should just call up Putin and ask him how he does it. Putin’s truth rules Russia and DHS, if it wants to be successful in its new self-proclaimed mission of being the nation’s thought police, should just follow in his footsteps.
DHS is not the only one who values free expression less these days. Emory Law School student government denied a charter to a free speech group because it did not have mechanisms in place to prevent a “precarious environment” or harm arising from what is said at its events. According to the overseers, discussions of race and gender issues “directly affect and harm your peers’ lives in demonstrable and quantitative ways…” In other words, somebody might be offended so you can’t speak your mind. What happened to all that grit and resilience training kids get in schools these days?
Meanwhile, so-called ‘journalists’ – who depend on the First Amendment right to a free press to make a living – would like nothing better than to silence people they don’t agree with. According to Washington Post writer Jennifer Rubin, Republicans are not “normal” and should not be treated as such. There should be rules against those evil Republicans because all they do is lie and provoke violence. That’s what happens when you get too far down the rabbit hole. Still, I’m glad she said it because, like Malcolm X [starting at 23:20], I want to know what people are thinking, no matter how idiotic. Another Washington Post writer wants to shut down conservative media outlets for being climate change deniers. Now that the Washington Post has found a sugar daddy and no longer has to worry about where its next paycheck is coming from, it’s gone from sanctimonious to insufferable. I think we should close down the Washington Post because it runs fake stories approved by its editors, as during the Janet Cooke scandal. Just kidding. I want the Post to keep yapping away so we can see just how foolish they’re becoming. Just as foolish as Facebook which was forced to admit in court its supposed ‘fact-checking’ is just their opinion which, oh by the way, is protected by the First Amendment. Imagine that. Well, Facebook, I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
It’s always good to remind people why we have free speech in the first place – because We the People are sovereign. We run this country, not DHS or the Washington Post, and we need all the information so we can make our sovereign decisions. Self-rule is the reason we have free speech. We are ruled by ourselves, not by our betters like Mark Zuckerberg or Jeff Bezos. So take a moment and reflect on the value of free expression and what you are giving up if you throw it away just because somebody might take offense at something that is said. It’s your self-rule and your freedom. People who don’t value self-governance and personal freedom won’t have them for very long. The Vladimir Putins among us will see to that.

As we helplessly watch the Ukrainian war unfold it must be said that the usurper in the White House has to hold a large majority of the responsibility for what we are watching. Everything bad happening worldwide now, and I forecast in the near future is going to be a direct responsibility of this pathetic administration and the domestic and foreign policies it has and is pursuing.
Let me explain how I see it from my personal viewpoint.
From the first day this administration took illegal control of our constitutional republic, they have worked harder and quicker than anyone could have imagined, to destroy our beloved country and by doing that placed the world in dire circumstances, all of which we are now, 14 months in, watching unfold. Thanks Joe!
Let’s look at their energy policy. The first day Biden, some say just to get back at Trump, stopped the Keystone XL Pipeline, cutting thousands of well paid jobs and destroying the oil industry and the economies of states that have oil based economies. On the next move, one which I believe had to do with the corruption of his entire Biden crime family, he green lighted the Nord Stream 2 pipeline from Russia to Europe. ( As an aside, I hope one day to hear how Russian produced oil and gas is cleaner than US produced oil and gas! I think that Russia does not produce its oil and gas anywhere near as cleanly and environmentally friendly as we do. ). Thanks Joe!
Remember America, Bidens corrupt junkie whoremonger of a son, Hunter Biden, served on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian gas company. Sniffer Joe Biden had an obvious conflict of interest. We know that Hunter received a $3.5 million wire transfer from Elena Baturina, the wife of the former mayor of Moscow. The “Big Guy” obviously got his share. Thanks Joe!
So as a nation we went from net exporter of oil and retail gas at under $2 a gallon to begging like peasants to OPEC ( which includes Russia ) for them to supply and drill more oil. Hmmm… their response to America being on its knees? Nope! We will still drill less or the same. You must therefore just pay more! Today we see oil up around $100 a barrel and rising fast. Gas prices at the pumps approaching record highs along with inflation. Thanks Joe!
So, for those who see where I am going, we have been helping Russia, whose economy is oil based, tremendously! Our money and the money of countries we exported oil to, now have helped the Russian military buildup by supplying billions in unexpected profits to Russia. Why in Gods name did we import a record 232 million barrels of oil from Russia last year through November? We actually set a monthly record of 26 million barrels last May. All while we have trillions of barrels below our feet. All the time we as a country, under this administration, are getting weaker and weaker. Thanks Joe!
Now, NATO is weak, running like a rudderless ship in a storm, un-financed unlike Russia and China, with politically correct leadership and politically correct military forces. This is because member countries for decades have failed their countries by not paying their fair share for the upgrading needed. They relied on the USA but now know that they cannot rely on us to blow their noses or wipe their asses. After all, under testosterone challenged Hussein Obama and mentally challenged Biden, we have become an extension of them. Our military leadership is comprised of leftist politicians and not real military men who love this country. The LGBTQI agenda is more important than getting our military truly ready to meet evil the only way you should. With extreme violence until you annihilate the enemy. If you think the Russians. Iranians, Chinese or North Korean military has the same leftist agenda for their military, think again. We just give them a reason to laugh, clap, cheer and take advantage.

During the early morning hours of Thursday (local time), Russia began its long-threatened and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, the first instance of war between two sovereign nations in Europe since the end of the Second World War. Vladimir Putin’s order to initiate a “special military operation” against Ukraine has finally, for those who had any remaining doubts, revealed Putin for what he is: a thug. A product of the KGB who regards the collapse of the Soviet Union as the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of modern history, Putin is dedicated to the reconstruction of the Russian Empire, with or without the consent of its former subjects, with himself as czar.
Ukraine isn’t our war, at least not yet. But American soldiers entered the continent of Europe twice during the 20th Century to fight wars we didn’t think were ours at first. And unlike at the beginning of the First and Second World Wars, U.S. forces are already in Europe and committed to NATO and the defense of NATO’s borders.Russia’s border with NATO now extends from the Arctic to the Eastern Mediterranean; miscalculation by either side along this immense frontier could have disastrous consequences.
For some time now, the United States has been locked in great power competition with Russia and China, both of which seek to displace the U.S. as the preeminent world power and establish an international order based on authoritarian rule. Putin’s invasion of Ukraine demonstrates what that competition looks like when our adversaries do not respect us and do not believe our leaders pose a credible challenge to their ambitions.
President Biden’s initial response to Putin’s build-up on the borders of Ukraine was an exercise in political theater. Americans watched a president who is apparently unable or unwilling to secure his own country’s borders dispatch troops to Europe to ensure the integrity of NATO borders. At the same time, while ensuring the Ukrainians of U.S support, the president simultaneously defeated any potential deterrent effect when he clearly announced early-on that U.S. troops would not fight in Ukraine, removed U.S. military trainers from the country, and evacuated the U.S. embassy. Dispatching the Vice President to a European security conference in Munich was simply a gesture devoid of content.
Putin knew that President Biden – given the debacle of America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, a flagging economy, and abysmal polling numbers – needed a “victory moment” in Ukraine. Putin could smell weakness and indecision, and he was not impressed. (Just as he wasn’t impressed by the Obama/Biden Administration when he annexed Crimea.)
Thursday afternoon (Washington, DC time) President Biden announced the imposition of new economic sanctions and reportedly alerted an additional seven thousand soldiers to further reinforce U.S. forces in Germany. Europe and most of the rest of the world are at least rhetorically outraged at Putin’s behavior and supportive of President Biden’s actions. But outrage is hard to sustain; what happens when the outrage wears off?
While Ukraine isn’t our fight, it does have a broader meaning for the future security of the U.S. and its allies.
First, Americans must recognize that Ukraine represents the “new normal,” at least while Vladimir Putin still exercises power in Russia. Putin has a vision for Russia combined with a sense of strategic patience – he knows what he wants to achieve and he acts decisively when he believes his adversaries are weak.
Second, the United States needs a long-term and sustainable Russian strategy. An announced and enduring strategy of containment worked well against the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Like his Soviet predecessors, Putin needs to be contained in his ambitions. Vladimir Putin is clearly a threat to peace. While some may dismiss Russia as noting more than a giant gas station, it’s a gas station with formidable conventional military forces and the world’s largest nuclear weapons stockpile – the fact of which Putin likes to regularly remind us.
Likewise, European leaders need to make some hard choices concerning their security environment. Putin knows NATO only works when the U.S. does the heavy lifting. Events in the Ukraine should be an unmistakable signal that the time has come for Europeans to take on greater responsibility for their own defense. The days are long gone when the United States could or should be expected to single handedly ensure the security of Europe.
Russia is only one part of a complex security challenge facing U.S. leaders. China remains the greatest long-term existential threat to U.S. security. While the Russian – Chinese strategic relationship is largely a marriage of convenience, such marriages still bring advantages for both partners. China is watching closely to gauge how the U.S. and it allies respond to events in Ukraine and how well and how long they hold together on sanctions. China will interpret weakness in Europe as opportunity in Asia and the Pacific.
Putin’s invasion of Ukraine should be a wakeup call to what used to be referred to as the Free World. Defending that world against the predatory designs of Russia and China isn’t about “America First;” in the long run, it is about “America at All.”

Another disastrous press conference from our utterly pathetic POTUS. Taiwan is next. Buckle up folks.
When you fail to demonstrate the resolve necessary to protect the things that matter, the bad guys in the world will begin to do precisely what you are seeing Vladimir Putin do today. pic.twitter.com/wJprike9sx
Democrat President Joe Biden was slammed on Tuesday over remarks that he made during a press conference on Russia’s invasion into Ukraine and his subsequent refusal to answer questions from the media.
The negative comments toward Biden come as critics blame him for the situation that is unfolding in Ukraine because of the administration’s disastrous pullout from Afghanistan, which signaled weakness, and the administration’s decision to lift sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
Kayleigh McEnany, former WH press secretary: “Biden turns his back to the American People, taking no questions after warning about the “COSTS” Americans should be prepared to pay because of the Russia invasion he paved the way for!”
Jake Schneider, RNC: “Once again, Biden turns his back on the press and shuffles away in what has become the defining image of his failed presidency.”
House Judiciary GOP: “Per usual, Joe Biden takes no questions. Weak.”
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR): “President Biden’s weak sanctions aren’t even half measures—they’re quarter measures.”
Marshall Billingslea, former Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing at the Treasury Department: “Today @POTUS announced sanctions on just 2 banks, one of which — VEB — has been under select restrictions since 2014. In terms of sovereign debt, the US already has certain prohibitions in place since 2019, & expanded in 2021. No oligarchs or Russian officials targeted today. For those who are interested, here is the 2014 action on VEB and the Biden Admin’s own expanded sanctions on sovereign debt, already in place since April 2021. Not much bark today, and very little bite. This will not deter Putin.”
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL): “Joe Biden’s address about Ukraine was disgraceful. The sanctions that he announced might have been good 2 months ago, but not now. America, let’s be very clear… Putin is happy Joe Biden is @POTUS ! This is so sad for our nation and our allies.”
Mark Meadows, former WH COS: “Putin is walking all over America and our allies because he sees weakness at the top. Period. We are a country in need of strong leadership. And right now, the sad truth is we don’t have it.”
Benny Johnson, political commentator: “Biden waddles away from reporters like it’s an Olympic sport as they yell questions on his Ukraine calamity.”
Stephen L. Miller, political commentator: “Biden walks away without taking questions.” He added, “Journalists are willing props for this president and nothing else.”
Rita Panahi, political commentator: “Familiar scene. But thank god there’ll be no mean tweets today.”
Ronna McDaniel, RNC Chairwoman: “Biden claims he predicted every single thing Putin has done. If he saw it coming… then he failed to stop it.”
Monica Crowley, former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury: “Watching Biden speak is like watching a little old lady cross an icy street.”

A video posted online urges followers of the Islamic State to help form a province of the terror group in the United States called ISIS North America.
The video is dated “new 2022” in the first frame and was posted on a file-sharing site this month. It consists of simple white English-language writing on a black background, instead of being dressed up with images of ISIS battles or adherents as in many videos with higher production value associated with the terror group….
“To those who want to try,” it begins with an ISIS flag as a nasheed plays. “To my brothers following in the path of the Khilafa in America I urge you to come join our group.”
“This new group will operate in the United States to surprise the murtad in their own lands,” the video continues. The wording suggests that the group intends to target Muslims seen as turning their back on ISIS’ interpretation of Islam — how the terror group defines apostasy — instead of the general population, referred to as kuffar or disbelievers.
“The name of this group will be named ISIS-NA (Islamic State of Iraq & Sham – North America),” the video states. It then shows imaginings of the Nevada and California flags as “Flag of Tawheed” — the concept of oneness in Islam and why ISIS followers make the hand gesture of raising a single index finger….
“Do not send this video anywhere else as this will alert the kuffar. Do not join if you aren’t commited [sic] to our organization and do not join to make jokes, we will trace every keylog you make if you do this,” it continues.
“My dear brother or sister, may Allah grant you good health and happiness for watching this video. Spread the word about this organization to those who are trustful but be careful with doing so,” the video cautions. “May Allah grant this organization with success and may Allah grant us Jannah [paradise].”…

The Biden administration altered the official federal policy on approving new interstate natural gas facilities and pipelines, requiring a climate consideration.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission announced that it will begin to “undertake a robust consideration” of the environmental justice impacts of such fossil fuel projects before granting approval, according to a fact sheet published Thursday.
The agency, which is the top regulator of domestic natural gas infrastructure, said its new policy will presume projects that cause 100,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year will have a significant impact on the environment.
In a major departure from its past policy, the FERC may also consider the eventual emissions caused by both upstream production and eventual burning of gas transported in a pipeline requiring approval.
“I believe today’s long overdue policy statements are essential to ensuring the Commission’s natural gas siting decisions are reflective of all stakeholder concerns and interests,” FERC Chairman Rich Glick said in a statement. “We have witnessed the impact on pipeline projects when federal agencies, including the Commission, fail to fulfill their statutory responsibilities assessing the potential effects of a project on the environment, landowners, and communities.”
The announcement Thursday marked the first time the commission updated its natural gas policy since 1999. Rep. Frank Pallone, D-N.J., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, applauded the policy change, saying it was “necessary and long overdue.”
“For far too long, FERC has allowed private pipeline developers to call the shots, while cutting those affected by the projects out of the process,” Gillian Giannetti, Natural Resources Defense Council senior attorney, said in a statement. “Communities and landowners will now have a say before new pipelines cut across their land or new compressor stations are built near their homes.”
“FERC will now need to follow through and permanently establish a meaningful climate test for pipelines,” she added.
But the new policy also attracted criticism from both Democratic and Republican lawmakers.
“Today’s reckless decision by FERC’s Democratic Commissioners puts the security of our nation at risk,” Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said in a statement. “The Commission went too far by prioritizing a political agenda over their main mission—ensuring our nation’s energy reliability and security.”
“The only thing they accomplished today was constructing additional road blocks that further delay building out the energy infrastructure our country desperately needs,” he added.
Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., the committee’s ranking member, added that the FERC decision proved the administration was “determined to make it nearly impossible” for Americans to access affordable natural gas.
In January 2021, President Joe Biden appointed Glick to chair FERC. In September, the president selected former Washington, D.C., Public Service Commission Chairman Willie Phillips to join FERC, giving Democrats majority control of the five-person commission.
A former Prime Minister of Australia warns that Vladimir Putin’s ambitions in Ukraine threaten us all.
History isn’t malicious, just instructive. It tells us that progress isn’t inevitable; that justice isn’t always done; that good won’t always win; and that danger always lurks.
Above all, it tells us that individual and collective choice matters: that our beliefs drive our actions, and that havoc can be wreaked, or stopped, because people decide to make a stand.
Few things have been more telling than the reaction of key countries to the Russian army poised on Ukraine’s borders.
Britain and America have sent anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles but no troops. Germany has been reluctant even to threaten sanctions, should Russia invade. And in shades of Munich, France has championed a peace deal based on changing the Ukrainian constitution to meet Russia’s demands.
In trying to extract a pledge from his smaller neighbour that it will never join NATO, the Russian president is exploiting the universal fear of war in an attempt to dictate the policy of NATO and to smash the independence of Ukraine.
He’s relying on everyone’s unwillingness to take risks for someone else. And so far, he’s succeeding; the Europeans and the Americans are divided and the West looks impotent.
The only ones to emerge with much credit are the Ukrainians themselves, who’ve manned their defences and insisted on their right to conduct an independent foreign policy, including joining NATO and the EU.
But regardless of how this particular episode plays out, let’s be under no illusion. Vladimir Putin sees himself as the new Tsar, a ruler for life, determined to restore greater Russia.
To that end, he’s invaded Georgia, annexed the Crimea, occupied the Donbas, killed-without-compunction opponents at home and abroad, and restored Russia as a military superpower despite an economy smaller than Italy’s.
Ukraine is but his present target, because it persists in looking west not east; and because the 1994 Anglo-American security assurance, named for this very city, in return for the surrender of Soviet-era nuclear weapons, failed to replicate the one-in, all-in provision of Article 5 of the NATO Charter.
However the current stand-off ends, we can be confident that Putin’s campaign will continue, remorseless, relentless, by all means up to and including all-out-war, until Ukraine becomes a Russian colony.
And then his attention will turn to the Baltic States, and then to Poland, and then to the other former Soviet satellites, until Russia is again the overlord of Eastern Europe.
I fear the only thing that will stop him is death, defeat, or the conviction that he would lose.
On what do I base that?
Well, after a Russian missile battery shot down MH17 over the eastern Ukraine, killing 38 Australians, I promised to “shirtfront” the Russian president – it’s an Australian sporting term for a rough tackle.
I had that very robust conversation with him on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Beijing in 2014. With rare intensity, he insisted that Ukraine was really Russian and that their government was fascist or worse – and that provocateurs had brought down the plane.
And then he grabbed me with both hands and said something both strange and revealing: “you are not a native Australian”, he said, “but I am a native Russian”.
It’s this passion for blood and soil and sacred mission that drives my sense that he’s ready to take big risks, to restore the Russia of his dreams, especially against weakness and vulnerability.
Of course, Putin is not Hitler, and Ukraine is not Czechoslovakia, and these are not the 1930s, but there are plenty of disturbing parallels, including a new “axis” of great powers ready to disturb the peace to get what they want.
A fortnight back, the Russian dictator and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, issued a declaration on “International Relations Entering a New Era”. We know the type of new era they have in mind from their preposterous claim that both Russia and China enjoy “long-standing traditions of democracy”.
This would be news to the gaoled Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, and to the gaoled Australian news anchor Cheng Lei, and to the tennis star Peng Shuai now doomed to life in a cage.
For Beijing, ”democracy with Chinese characteristics” obviously covers the internment of more than a million Uighurs, the strangulation of Hong Kong despite the solemn promise of one country, two systems, and the near daily intimidation of Taiwan, a genuine democracy that proves there’s no totalitarian gene in the Chinese DNA.
Not for nothing has China built what’s already the world’s largest navy, plus a militarised coast guard, plus a maritime militia, and achieved what many defence planners think is military superiority over the United States in the Western Pacific.
The main purpose of this joint declaration, this Moscow-Beijing axis, is to bury, they say, the “political and military alliances of the Cold War era” – so no more NATO, no US troops in Japan and South Korea, and ultimately an end to the Pax Americana – through a dictators’ partnership that has, they say, “no limits” and no “forbidden areas of cooperation”.
The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, maybe it’s not; but it’s definitely a free hand from each, for the other to do its worst.
At heart, what they both reject is the American-backed world order, a liberal and humane set of understandings and arrangements, that’s enabled the very best time in human history; with the world’s people more free, more safe and more prosperous than ever before.
Even though they’ve both befitted from it, with half a billion Chinese moving from the third world to the middle class in scarcely a generation, after President Clinton bent the rules to admit China to the WTO; and with Russia becoming a petro-power that can turn Europe’s energy on-and-off like a tap.
For years, American officialdom ignored the Chinese leadership’s much- stated intention to be the world’s top country by mid-century; only for the secretary of state, just a week ago in Melbourne, belatedly to declare that China’s goal was indeed global domination.
So, with these latter-day dictators clearly on the march, as Lenin once asked: what is to be done?
In his celebrated speech attacking the Munich sell-out as a “defeat without a war”, Winston Churchill declared that this was but “the first foretaste of a bitter cup which will be proffered to us year by year, unless by a supreme recovery of moral health” – let’s underline that – “moral health” he said, “and martial vigour, we arise again and take our stand for freedom, as in the olden time”.
A response to the dictators starts with appreciating that just because war is unthinkable to us, doesn’t make it unthinkable to them.
Since the beginning of time, the strong have always been tempted to take advantage of the weak; and the tough and the hungry have always sought to usurp the indolent and the soft.
Throw in what [British philosopher David] Hume recognised, that passions drive reason, and what’s unthinkable to most can become entirely reasonable to some, especially those on a quest for national glory.
Last week, the German chancellor proclaimed that “war has become unthinkable in Europe and we have to make sure it stays that way” – even though he must know, that up against someone who thinks differently, and who routinely uses war to achieve his ends, the only way to avoid war is to surrender.
Is Germany so ashamed of its past, and so enervated by its wealth, that it can no longer stand up to those set on taking advantage of it, including a Russian president bent on economic and military blackmail?
We must hope that events don’t give us the wrong answer.
That’s the baleful side of 1989: this notion that the fall of the Berlin Wall marked the “end of history” and the era of universal peace based on the triumph of liberal capitalism.
Rather than a new beginning, 1989 was simply one brief shining moment in time, when liberal nations were clearly ascendant over illiberal ones.
But that was soon squandered, through misplaced idealism: by bloody, expensive and largely futile nation-building in Iraq and Afghanistan, that’s sapped the West’s strength and self-confidence; and by welcoming China and Russia into global markets, that’s increased their wealth and strength but not their goodwill.
As their current adventurism shows, both countries’ exceptionalism still includes the conviction that they should dominate their regions, if not the wider world.
All that’s lingered from those heady days, three decades back, is the conviction of Western elites that their obsessions with climate change and identity politics are widely shared; coupled with their strange unwillingness to call-out in other cultures what they condemn in their own.
As the five decades after 1945 show, the only way to keep aggressors at bay is collective security; otherwise, the strong do what they will, and the weak suffer what they must.
Take Eastern Europe: if it’s Russia against Ukraine, sooner or later, Russia will prevail; as Russia ultimately did against Finland in 1940.
Take East Asia: if it’s China against Taiwan, China will inevitably prevail.
But if it’s Russia or China versus the democracies, one for all and all for one, that’s an entirely different matter.
Perhaps this military crisis might awaken the people of Western countries, so recently discombobulated by a virus, and so unaccustomed to sacrifice, to how readily a freedom that’s not cherished and defended can be lost.
We have to make the war that’s unthinkable to us, for moral reasons, unthinkable to them for prudential reasons. We who shrink from war because it’s morally wrong have to make others shrink from war because they’d likely lose.
Of course, our instinctive initial reaction is to avoid entirely “quarrels in faraway countries between people of whom we know nothing”.
Yet what other countries’ freedom might be dispensable, if theirs is? And who would we fight alongside, if not them? And if others’ fights aren’t ours, who might help us, when our turn comes?
This is where moral health is indeed called for, as much as martial vigour, in any contest between nations.
We can’t forget Churchill’s other observation that “jaw-jaw is better than war-war”, provided we remember that the point of diplomacy with dictators is to deliver a stern message that their demands are unacceptable.
It would be shameful were any pressure to be put on Ukraine to accept Putin’s demands because concessions would just embolden a bully.
Even now, I’m not sure how widely it’s grasped what’s at stake in this confrontation between democracy and autocracy, between sovereignty and subservience – and how the whole trajectory of history could change.
Meanwhile, comrades Putin and Xi watch the scuttle from Kabul, because a long-term military presence was judged to be too hard; the toppling of statues, because yesterday’s heroes have to be damned by today’s standards; and our self-flagellation over race and identity, even though there’s never been less racism, and minorities have never had a fairer go, and conclude that a decadent West is unlikely to defend itself with vigour, let alone stand up for others.
They see America in retreat, and no other country or collection of countries with strength and goodwill sufficient to be the guardian of peace with freedom.
For all of us as individuals and for each of our countries, the challenge is to prove them wrong. As long there are millions who would seek a better life in Western countries, we need to accept that vote of confidence in ourselves, and never weaken on what’s made us great.

President Biden promised a “swift and severe” response. He did not deliver.
Ukraine is a test of western resolve. It’s not just about Putin. The Chinese communists and Iranian jihadists are watching too. It’s a major leadership moment for Biden. So far, he’s failing.

Tuesday on MSNBC’s All In, failed vice presidential hopeful Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) said the upcoming vote in Congress to sanction Russia for their invasion into Ukrainian territory will expose whether Republican lawmakers are “appeasers” of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Asked if Republicans are going to work with Democrats to further the Biden foreign policy agenda (whatever that is), the unhinged Kaine replied, “Yes, I think there will be some who will follow Donald Trump. Donald Trump calling Putin’s move a genius move, a savvy move, you, know he couldn’t get a Nobel prize, so maybe he’s trying now for the Order of Lenin, or even better, finally, a Trump Tower in Moscow. But we will put our Republican colleagues on the board and see whether they’re Vladimir Putin appeasers or they’re standing up for the Western democracies…”
If Kaine and his tough-talking fellow Democrat blowhards really care about defending freedom around the world, they could start by sanctioning the totalitarian Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of our neighbor to the north, over his ruthless crackdown on truckers protesting COVID mandates. But they won’t because they’re Trudeau appeasers, and because they — not Trump — are the supporters of authoritarian dictators around the world.
In a March 2019 appearance on CBS’sFace the Nation, Kaine, discussing two mass shootings that had just killed 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, blamed President Trump’s allegedly reckless, bigoted rhetoric for emboldening white nationalists and racists to engage in such acts of violence:
“[White nationalism] is on the rise and the president should call it out but sadly he’s not doing that. We saw in the aftermath of the horrible [August 2017] attack in Charlottesville that he tried to say that the white supremacists, neo-Nazis, neo confederates there were just, you know, good people.[4] But when you see church shootings in Charleston, a synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh, you see this hate filled manifesto of the shooter in New Zealand who is murdering Muslims, we have to confront the fact that there is a rise in white supremacy, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim attitudes. The president uses language often that’s very similar to the language used by these bigots and racists. And if he’s not going to call it out then other leaders have to do more to call it out and I certainly will.”

Greenhouse gas emissions have surged in multiple Northeast states that shuttered nuclear power plants since 2019, Politico reported.
The states — Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania — closed down the zero-emissions nuclear reactors in recent years, even as they announced ambitious pledges to transition away from fossil fuels, according to Politico. Since 2019, carbon dioxide emissions, caused by burning fossil fuels like petroleum, coal and natural gas, have increased 15%, 12% and 3% in New York, New England and Pennsylvania respectively, federal data showed.
“If the goal is that we’re moving to 100% zero-carbon electricity, closing zero-carbon resources doesn’t make a lot of sense,” Melissa Lott, director of research at the Columbia University Center on Global Energy, told Politico. “We’re just digging the hole deeper.”
Electricity production is the second-largest source of emissions nationwide, only trailing the transportation sector, according to the Energy Information Administration. Coal power generation, the dirtiest and highest-emitting form of electricity production, increased for the first time since 2014 in 2021.
In June 2019, the Pilgrim nuclear power plant in Massachusetts permanently closed, citing financial difficulties, World Nuclear News reported. Months later, the Pennsylvania plant Three Mile Island stopped producing electricity in a setback for green transition, Nuclear Energy Institute analyst Matt Wald told NPR at the time.
Finally, in April 2021, the Indian Point reactor located 25 miles outside of New York City permanently shuttered. The plant’s operator, Entergy, had applied for a license renewal more than a decade ago, but the state challenged the application over environmental concerns.
Nuclear power is responsible for 9% of energy consumed in the U.S., making it by far the most relied upon renewable energy source in the country. By comparison, solar and wind power combined generate about 4-5% of the annual power consumed by Americans.
“A critical mass of the environmental community is adopting reducing carbon as the most important issue, and nuclear energy becomes more important than it was before,” Great Plains Institute vice president of electricity and efficiency Doug Scott told Politico.
While several U.S. states and high-consuming countries like Germany have moved away from nuclear power, France has made the power source central to its clean energy plans. On Feb. 10, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the nation would build up to 14 new nuclear plants over the next few decades.
Nuclear plants produce about 70% of France’s electricity generation, according to the World Nuclear Association.
“What we have to build today is the renaissance of the French nuclear industry because it’s the right moment, because it’s the right thing for our nation, because everything is in place,” Macron said during remarks at a nuclear facility last week.

Australia finally got around to listing the infamous jihad terror group known as the Islamic Resistance Movement, and better known as Hamas, as a terrorist group on Thursday. That’s great, even though it should have been done years ago. The way that Australian authorities chose to do it, however, once again demonstrated the moral cowardice and intellectual bankruptcy of the Left: the Australians had to find a way to condemn Hamas without appearing to be “Islamophobic.” They found a way to do that, but they didn’t find a way to avoid appearing to be woke, politically correct fools.
The Associated Press reported Thursday that Australia has “added the U.S.-based far-right extremist group National Socialist Order and planned to add the entirety of the Palestinian group Hamas to its list of outlawed terrorist organisations as concerns rise about radicalised children.”
Now, it’s easy to see why Hamas is being added to the list of outlawed terrorist organizations. Just in the past few days, its plan to target Israelis living in the Philippines was thwarted. It celebrated the murder of a 91-year-old Holocaust survivor. Before that, it sent rockets into Israel on New Year’s Eve. The leader of the Hamas Women’s Movement has claimed that all the Muslim women in Gaza are ready to blow themselves up in jihad suicide bombings.
And that’s just recently. For decades now, Hamas has called for and worked toward the total destruction of Israel, which would necessarily involve a new genocide of the Jews. For years, its website featured a “Glory Record” detailing its murders of Israeli civilians. Hamas also receives funding from the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is just as genocidal and anti-Semitic as Hamas itself.
At the same time as it announced intentions to list Hamas as a terror group, Australia’s Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews announced that it had also added “the National Socialist Order, formerly known as Atomwaffen Division,” to its terror list. It seems that the National Socialist Order “advocates a global ‘race war’ and the collapse of democratic societies.” This is not the first “far-right” group that Australia has added to its terror list: “The Base, a neo-Nazi white supremacist group formed in the United States in 2018, was listed in December and the British-based Sonnenkrieg Division was listed in August.”
Undeniably, neo-Nazis are horrible people, and I have no doubt that the National Socialist Order thoroughly deserves to be listed as a terrorist group. But why did Australia have to add the National Socialist Order to its terror list as it added Hamas? Have you ever even heard of the National Socialist Order before reading this article? The ADL says that the Atomwaffen Division “is a small neo-Nazi group,” and that “a series of arrests in 2019-20 decimated the group’s active membership.” It adds that “in July 2020, AWD was disbanded, and the National Socialist Order emerged under the remaining AWD leadership.”
So the National Socialist Order is a rump group formed out of another that collapsed, and is likely to be an insignificant band of potbellied LARPing sociopaths, or else FBI agents trying to validate a “far-right” threat. That hardly compares to Hamas, an organization that for years has terrorized a nation with jihad rocket attacks and attacks on civilians. Hamas has international support, most notably from the Islamic Republic of Iran, while no nation has or ever will given support to the National Socialist Order.
So why has Australia only listed Hamas as a terror group in tandem with this insignificant band of Nazi idiots? The answer is clear. Australian authorities are trying to prop up the National Socialist Order as some kind of moral equivalent to Hamas, in order to try to avoid enraging its Muslim population, among whom are numerous Hamas supporters, and to avoid giving the impression that the Australian government is “Islamophobic” and is targeting only Islamic terrorists while ignoring non-Muslim terrorists.
This sort of thing isn’t limited to Australia, of course. I myself am banned from Britain in the British government’s absurd attempt to smear me as a “far right” leader on par with jihad terrorists. Then-Prime Minister Theresa May said in 2016: ““And I acted to keep those who peddle hatred and extremism out of our country. I kicked out Abu Hamza and Abu Qatada. I stopped Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer and Pastor Terry Jones – because Islamophobia comes from the same wellspring of hatred. And I stopped people like Dieudonne coming to Britain. Because nothing excuses antisemitism – not comedy, not satire, not even irony. Antisemitism is just hatred. And it is just wrong.”Spen
So as far as May was concerned, Pamela Geller and I were the “Islamophobic” equivalents of Abu Hamza and Abu Qatada. Abu Hamza is in solitary confinement in a super-max U.S. for, among other things, conspiring to set up a training camp for jihad terrorists in Bly, Oregon. Abu Qatada was convicted of plotting the jihad massacre of Americans and Israelis in Jordan. Neither Geller nor I have ever advocated or condoned any violence at all. But May needed some “far-right extremists” to balance her actions against jihadis and appease Muslims in Britain, and so she didn’t hesitate to smear us.
In fact, calling the National Socialist Order “far-right,” the same term that is used for people (including me) who aren’t remotely Nazi and are simply enunciating unwelcome truths, shows how the term is employed as a weapon to stigmatize, demonize, and marginalize all those whom the elites hate. Lump us in with some Nazi idiots, and the job is done.
It’s good that Australia will list Hamas as a terror group. But the way Australian officials have done it shows them to be Leftist cowards and self-deluded fools.

The U.S. State Department has ordered its personnel at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine to evacuate to Poland under threat of a Russian invasion, the U.S. announced Monday.
The U.S. had already evacuated most of its diplomats from the embassy in the capital city of Kyiv, and the few diplomats who remained moved to the city of Lviv in western Ukraine. The small contingent of diplomats still in Kyiv is now evacuating fully.
“For security reasons, Department of State personnel currently in Lviv will spend the night in Poland,” The State Department said in a statement, according to Bloomberg.
The move comes just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a fiery speech in which he officially recognized two separatist groups in eastern Ukraine as independent states. The separatist groups currently lay claim to land under the control of the Ukrainian government, leading some to believe Putin’s speech was a prelude to war.
Ukraine is “an inherent part of our history, culture, spiritual space. They are our comrades, relatives, not only colleagues, friends, but also our family, people we have blood and family ties with,” Putin said. He went on to argue that the Ukrainian government is a puppet of the U.S. Putin also painted Ukraine as a security threat to Russia, so long as it remained close allies with NATO and the U.S.
Russia has amassed roughly 150,000 troops along Ukraine’s borders in recent months, according to U.S. intelligence. President Joe Biden’s administration has repeatedly argued that Putin will rely on a “false flag” or some other pretense to invade Ukraine. Some observers have argued that Putin’s complaints about Kyiv’s alleged “military action” are just such a pretense.
And Putin now signs the LNR and DNR recognition statements with leaders of both regions

On July 27, 2006, I testified at a hearing conducted by the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Claims on the topic, “Whether the Attempted Implementation of the Reid-Kennedy Immigration Bill Will Result In an Administrative and National Security Nightmare.”
The Reid-Kennedy Bill upon which that hearing was predicated would have created a massive amnesty for unknown millions of aliens who were illegally present in the United States, not unlike the sort of massive amnesty for which the Biden administration has been advocating since before he took office — except the number of illegal aliens who would eligible to participate in this dangerous and ill-conceived program has grown exponentially.
I began my prepared testimony for the hearing by saying, in part:
“The principle by which most responsible and sensible people live their lives could be summed up by the phrase, ‘Safety first.’ Yet this fundamental and common sense approach is clearly lacking among all too many of the senators of our nation. They voted for a bill that utterly ignores the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission at a time when our nation is threatened by acts of terrorism.”
It has been said that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Safety should be the number one priority for our leaders.
However, radical Democrats have prioritized the concerns of law violators, including violent criminals, over those of everyone else — and not just where immigration is concerned, but across the broad spectrum of issues that are encompassed within the criminal justice system — by advocating for the defunding of police, bail reform and criminal justice reform under the guise of seeking “social justice.”
In point of fact, immigration law enforcement has always been “defunded” by both political parties who have bowed to the demands of the globalists and special interest groups that fund their political campaigns.
This was the focus of my recent article, “Profiteers of Biden Administration’s Open Borders Policy Malfeasance Has Its Rewards.”
Advocates for effective and fair enforcement of our immigration laws are frequently vilified as being “anti-immigrant” while those who seek immigration anarchy are lauded as “pro-immigrant.”
Nothing could be further from the truth.
America’s immigration laws were enacted to protect public health, public safety, national security, and the jobs and wages of Americans.
A review of section 8 U.S. Code § 1182 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which establishes the categories of aliens who are deemed inadmissible, would dispel the lies and propaganda deployed to denigrate the importance and reasonableness of our immigration laws and reinforce the absolute need for our nation to enforce those laws.
Failures to enforce our immigration laws undermine the safety and wellbeing of Americans and lead to the exploitation of desperate and vulnerable illegal aliens.
Effective immigration law enforcement requires emphasis on enforcement within the interior of the United States. Meaningful interior enforcement has never been a part of any proposed legislation or strategy for any administration. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) only has a few thousand employees and since the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, ICE agents enforce a broad spectrum of laws that have nothing to do with immigration.
Not long after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, I was invited to meet with several members of Congress and their staffs. During our meeting I asked them if they knew how many times an aspiring illegal alien could attempt to enter the U.S. without inspection. One of the congressmen appeared perplexed and asked if there was a specific number. I told him that the numbers might vary but there is a formula that works — aliens simply had to attempt illegal entry one more time than the number of times they get caught.
The point is that any alien who is determined to gain entry into the U.S. will ultimately succeed. Consequently, interior enforcement is the key to success.
Consider this excerpt from an article published by The Epoch Times entitled, “Illegal Aliens Ran Sex-Trafficking Ring in New York City, Using Minors From Mexico.”
The border-crossing records of two of the convicted sex traffickers reveal a common pattern of continually crossing the border illegally until they make it past law enforceemnt.
Abel Romero-Melendez, who received a 20-year sentence, was apprehended by Border Patrol and returned to Mexico eight times after crossing illegally. The crossing dates included March 22, 2002, near Casa Grande, Arizona; July 14, 2006, near Nogales, Arizona; July 21, 2006, near Sasabe, Arizona; July 25, 2006, near Nogales, Arizona; July 30, 2006, in the Tucson sector of Arizona; June 4, 2012, in the Tucson sector; June 15, 2012, near Willcox, Arizona; and Oct. 29, 2012, in Falfurrias, Texas.
Fabian Reyes-Rojas, who is awaiting sentencing, was apprehended by Border Patrol and returned to Mexico seven times after crossing illegally, and jailed once for illegal re-entry.
Border records show Border Patrol apprehended Reyes-Rojas on March 11, 16, and 18 in 2003; Sept. 7 and 13 in 2007; and Sept. 8, 2011.
After being caught near Douglas, Arizona, on May 16, 2012, Reyes-Rojas was charged with illegal re-entry and spent 30 days in jail before being returned to Mexico.
No further entry records exist, but Reyes-Rojas resided in New York City from at least 2014, according to the complaint.
The illegal alien thugs noted above coerced young Mexican girls they smuggled into the United States into working as prostitutes by raping them, beating them, and threatening to kill their parents.
Today, there are thousands of similar criminals from countries around the world plying their “trades” in our country, turning the U.S. into a “Land of Opportunity” for lawbreakers, members of transnational gangs, drug traffickers, and terrorists — and the Biden administration is determined to do nothing to prevent their entry into our country or seek their removal.
There is no justice of any sort to be found in the policies and actions of this morally bankrupt administration. As I recently noted, for the Biden administration, national security is ‘mission irrelevant.’

Xi Jinping, China’s mighty-looking leader, has an “enormous array of domestic enemies.” — Gregory Copley, president of the International Strategic Studies Association and editor-in-chief of Defense & Foreign Affairs Strategic Policy, to Gatestone Institute, February 2022.
When truckers took over Canada’s capital, Ottawa, and shut down border entry points to America, some called it a “nationwide insurrection.” Mass demonstrations have occurred across the democratic world. People have had enough of two years of mandates and other disease-control measures.
Not so in the world’s most populous state, which maintains the world’s strictest COVID-19 controls. There are no known popular protests in the People’s Republic of China against anti-coronavirus efforts.
Yet China is not stable, and Xi Jinping is facing his “End of Days,” as a recent essay by opposition figures (see below) puts it. The revolt is not in society at large but at the top of the Communist Party. As Gregory Copley, president of the International Strategic Studies Association, told Gatestone, Xi Jinping, China’s mighty-looking leader, has an “enormous array of domestic enemies.”
Xi created that opposition. After becoming China’s ruler at the end of 2012, he grabbed power from everyone else and then jailed tens of thousands of opponents in purges, which he styled as “anti-corruption” campaigns.
Xi also used the disease to great advantage. As Copley, also the editor-in-chief of Defense & Foreign Affairs Strategic Policy, points out, “Xi’s ‘zero COVID’ policy is, indeed, less about stopping the spread of COVID and more about suppressing his internal enemies, both in the public and in the Party.”
The “enormous array” is now starting to strike back. Xi is most vulnerable on his handling of the country’s stagnating economy. For one thing, the draconian campaign against COVID—massive testing, meticulous contact-tracing, strict lockdowns—have of course undermined consumption, which Beijing has touted as the core of the economy.
Beijing is panicking, addingnearly a trillion dollarsin total new credit last month, a record increase. Chinese technocrats have also become sneaky, embarking on what the widely followed Andrew Collier of Global Source Partners terms “shadow stimulus”—stimulus provided by local governments and their entities in order to allow the central government to avoid reporting spending.
China needs a vibrant economy to service enormous debts, largely run up as Beijing overstimulated the economy, especially beginning in 2008. When the so-called “hidden debt” is included, total debt in the country amounts to somewhere in the vicinity of 350% of gross domestic product.
Not surprisingly, Chinese companies are now defaulting. The debt crisis is so serious it can bring down China’s economy—and the country’s financial and political systems with it.
For three decades, a Chinese leader was essentially immune to criticism because all decisions of consequence were shared by top figures in the Communist Party. Xi Jinping, however, as he took power also ended up with accountability—in other words, with no one else to blame. With things not going China’s way in recent years, Xi, often called the “Chairman of Everything,” is taking heat.
There are signs of intensifying discord among senior leaders. In the most recent hint of distress, “Fang Zhou and China”— “Fang Zhou” is a pseudonym meaning “ark”—wrote a 42,000-character essay titled “An Objective Evaluation of Xi Jinping.” The anti-Xi screed, posted on January 19 on the China-sponsored 6park site, appears to be the work of several members of the Communist Party’s Shanghai Gang faction, headed by former leader Jiang Zemin. Jiang’s faction has been continually sniping at Xi and now is leading the charge against him.
Fang’s piece incorporates previously voiced criticisms but does so in a comprehensive fashion. Fang blames Xi for, among other things, ruining the economy.
“Xi will be the architect of his own defeat,” writes Fang at the end of the rant, in a section titled “Xi Jinping’s Denouement” or “End of Days.” “His style of governance is simply unsustainable; it will generate even newer and greater policy missteps.”
Fang notes that Xi was able to take advantage of a feeble opposition but has not been able to accomplish much. “Xi’s policies have been retrogressive and derivative, his successes minor and his blunders numerous,” writes the Asia Society’s Geremie Barme, who translated the essay, summarizing Fang’s thoughts. Fang believes Xi “deserves a score of less than zero.”
Xi is not one to let a decade of zero scores get in the way of his continued rule. Communist Party norms require him to step down at the 20th National Congress, to be held sometime this fall if tradition holds. He obviously wants a precedent-breaking third term as general secretary so that he can become, as outsiders say, “Dictator for Life.” Most observers expect he will get that new term.
Maybe. Fang Zhou’s essay shows Communist Party leaders are risking stability by airing disagreements in public. Xi Jinping therefore, now realizes he is in the fight of his life.
Xi’s problems, unfortunately, can become our problems. He has, for various internal political reasons, a low threshold of risk and many reasons to pick on some other country to deflect elite criticism and popular discontent.
In 1966, Mao Zedong, Communist China’s first ruler, started the decade-long Cultural Revolution to vanquish political enemies in Beijing. Xi is doing much the same thing now, especially with his “common prosperity” program, which could return China to the 1950s.
Unlike Mao, however, Xi has the power to plunge the world into war, and he has reason to lash out soon.
Xi is targeting the United States. On August 29 of last year, People’s Daily, China’s most authoritative publication, accused America of launching “barbaric” attacks on the Chinese nation. On the 21st of that month, Global Times, a tabloid controlled by People’s Daily, insinuated the U.S. was working with China’s “enemies.”
The Communist Party of China has always believed its struggle with the United States is existential—in May 2019 the official People’s Daily declared a “people’s war” on America—but the hostility has become far more evident in the past year.
Virulent anti-Americanism suggests Xi Jinping is establishing a justification to strike America. The Chinese regime often uses its media to first warn and then signal its actions.

Russia has been laying the ground for military action against Ukraine since 2014.
Despite suggestions to the contrary from the Kremlin, Ukraine remains surrounded by Russian troops, both along its long border with Russia and from within occupied Crimea. The Russian Federation has deployed land, air and naval forces that give the Kremlin a range of possibilities should it seek to initiate military action.
Russia has been laying the ground for military action against Ukraine since 2014, when it seized Crimea and thereby gained a more substantial military foothold to the south. Meanwhile, the ongoing war in Ukraine’s Donbas region allowed Russian security and intelligence units to continue to gauge Ukrainian military and paramilitary operations.
In spring 2021, the Russian Federation ramped up actions against Ukraine, stopping short of actual war. It launched cyber attacks and misinformation campaigns as well as disrupting the energy supply. The Ukrainian Security Service has identified operational and sleeper units from Russia’s Federal Security Service, Foreign Intelligence Service, Military Intelligence and Special Forces operating within its borders.
If military action does occur, there are three likely scenarios for how it would play out.
Scenario 1: decapitation
The first is the decapitation approach. Russian military and security forces would seek to remove the current government and state powers in order to insert replace them with people more favourable to (and owned by) Moscow. Perhaps surprisingly, this would entail keeping on some people who are already working in the Ukrainian state. There are figures who have shown sympathies for and have worked with the Russian Federation.
This scenario would probably entail security and intelligence units on the ground in Ukraine as well as units from the military exercise currently being conducted in Belarus. The greatest concern for Russia in this scenario would be how the Ukrainian military and police would respond. There may also be a significant public backlash against a change of government led from Moscow.
Scenario 2: war in the east
The second possibility is the eastern war approach. Here, Russian forces would seek to reinforce the breakaway regions in the Donbas with arms, supplies and intelligence. These areas would then be used as a springboard to take more Ukrainian territory to more fully cover those areas where ethnic Russians and Russian speaking Ukrainians are located.
Such a manoeuvre could take Russian troops as far as the Dnieper river, which splits the country into east and west. It could also stretch across the coast of the Black Sea all the way to the Moldova border (where another Russian reinforced breakaway region is located).
Such an operation would be supported by military forces stationed in and around the Russian region of Rostov-on-Don, to the east of Ukraine, forces to the south stationed in Crimea and also probably Russian army motor and rifle battalions stationed in the breakaway Transnistria in Moldova.
Scenario 3: full invasion
The final possibility is the full invasion approach. All of those forces mentioned thus far as well as air units located further north would seek to defeat Ukraine militarily. They would use recent experience in combat operations in Syria to defeat any popular insurgency against Russian forces.
This approach would be devastating for the people of Ukraine. Large-scale death tolls would be expected across the Ukrainian military and police forces as well as among local populations adjacent to battles. There would be major flows of refugees to the west of Ukraine and into the bordering states of Poland, Hungary, Romania and Moldova. Such a refugee crisis could be the largest in Europe since the second world war.
Daunting repercussions
It’s important to note that these approaches are not mutually exclusive. They could even occur sequentially should the Kremlin be unsatisfied with the changes it finds in Ukraine or the west.
Regardless of what Russia does, other countries with unsettled disputes over breakaway territories, such as Moldova with Transnistria and Georgia with South Ossetia and Abkhazia, will be watching events nervously. A victory in Ukraine for Russia might well fuel actions against these countries in the future. And if the west fails to respond robustly, even countries like Estonia and Latvia could face threats in the future.
Russia’s military threat against Ukraine has put the west in a difficult position. It has to decide how to deal with a belligerent Russia and how far it should expand its membership to, say, Ukraine or Georgia and beyond. Nor are these predicaments helped by the fact that the United States is more concerned with China, the South China Sea and the status of Taiwan these days than the fate of eastern Europe.
What’s more, the very future of NATO may be on the line if it cannot have a credible response to Ukraine through diplomacy, military assistance and maybe even military response. Such a loss of credibility would be a major win for Russia, which sees NATO as a threat to its own national security and global strategy to regain power. In other words, the significance of the situation in Ukraine cannot be underestimated.

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz blamed President Joe Biden for bringing Europe to the “brink of war” Sunday, telling “Fox News Sunday” host Bill Hemmer that Biden’s presidency was the “best thing that ever happened” for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“If you look at what the Ukrainians want, they’ve been very explicit…they’ve asked the United States explicitly, put sanctions on Nord Stream 2, right now, today. Joe Biden could do that this morning. He refuses to do it,” Cruz argued.
Cruz pointed out that in 2019, sanctions against the Nordstream 2 pipeline passed in Congress with “overwhelming bipartisan support”, essentially preventing Putin from completing the pipeline.
“That pipeline was dead for over a year until Joe Biden became president and Putin began building that pipeline again on January 24, 2021, four days after Biden was sworn into office. Why? Because he knew what was going to happen…which was that Joe Biden formally waived sanctions on Russia, on Putin, and gave the green light to build Nord Stream 2,” Cruz explained.
“That is why we have over 100,000 troops and Russian tanks on the border of Ukraine preparing to invade. That’s why we’re on the brink of war in Europe,” Cruz stated.
When asked why Congress hasn’t been able to agree on sanctions against Russia, Cruz asserted, “Joe Biden came to Capitol Hill and personally lobbied Democratic senators to vote against Russian sanctions. That’s why we’re facing this invasion. Joe Biden becoming president is the best thing that ever happened, tragically, for Vladimir Putin.”
WATCH:
Cruz’s comments followed those of Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby who reiterated to Hemmer that the U.S. would impose “crippling” sanctions on Russia when and if Putin invades Ukraine.
“If you pull the trigger on that deterrent, well then, it doesn’t exist anymore as a deterrent. He has not conducted another invasion in Ukraine yet and we want to get — we still think there’s time to prevent that. So it’s supposed to be a deterrent,” Kirby argued.
“If you…punish somebody for something they haven’t done yet, then they might as well just go ahead and do it. So we’re holding that in advance and we’re hoping that that could affect the calculus of Mr. Putin,” he concluded.
Cruz disagreed, stating that the U.S. has not come “remotely close” to doing all that it can to prevent an invasion of Ukraine, arguing that the “disastrous retreat from Afghanistan” not only increased the chances of Russia invading Ukraine “tenfold” but also increased the chances of China invading Taiwan.
Sen. Ted Cruz: “A month or two from now, if God forbid, we see Russian tanks moving into Ukraine, remember this moment, where Senate Democrats objected said ‘No, we won’t sanction [Nord Stream 2]. We won’t save Ukraine. We won’t stand up to Russia.'” pic.twitter.com/9A31EG1nBk

45th President Donald Trump said in an email statement on Monday that the rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine would never have occurred while he was in office.
NATO announced on Jan. 24 that it is placing extra forces on standby and sending more warships and fighter jets to Eastern Europe as Russia continues its military buildup near Ukrainian territory. NATO’s announcement comes one day after the U.S. State Department ordered family members of government employees at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv to leave Ukraine, and authorized the voluntary departure of nonessential civil servants, The Epoch Times reported.
“What’s happening with Russia and Ukraine would never have happened under the Trump Administration. Not even a possibility!” the 45th President said in an email statement from his “Save America” PAC.
Russia recently told the U.S. to stop providing military aid to Ukraine, warning it had “almost completed” assembling 127,000 troops at the Ukrainian border.
The Russian Embassy in Washington said if the U.S. was “truly committed to diplomatic efforts to resolve the internal Ukrainian conflict” it would “abandon plans to supply new batches of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
The United States and the European Union, wary of Russia’s intentions since it seized Crimea and backed separatists fighting government forces in eastern Ukraine in 2014, have warned Russia not to invade, perThe Epoch Times.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said the West is showing “hysteria” and is putting out information “laced with lies.”
“As for specific actions, we see statements by the North Atlantic Alliance about reinforcement, pulling forces and resources to the eastern flank. All this leads to the fact that tensions are growing,” Peskov said. “This is not happening because of what we, Russia, are doing. This is all happening because of what NATO and the U.S. are doing and due to the information they are spreading.”
Meanwhile, Defense Department Spokesman John Kirby said on Monday that 8,500 US troops are on “heightened alert” if needed to deploy to Ukraine and “no decisions have been made to deploy any forces from the U.S. at this time”.

Sheriff Michael Chapman of Loudoun County, Va. got an unpleasant surprise recently from Old Joe Biden’s handlers. On Thursday, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) published a press release that reveals the truly astonishing extent of the administration’s high-handedness, dishonesty, carelessness, and recklessness in its resettlement of Afghan refugees in cities and towns all over the United States. Without any prior warning, Loudoun County officials were told that 2,000 Afghan refugees would be arriving in the county in just over two weeks and that 2,000 more would be arriving every month after that through September. In what will come as no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention for the last thirteen months, Chapman and other Loudoun County officials found the Biden team to be disingenuous, uncooperative, poorly prepared, and worse.
“On February 4, 2022,” says the Sheriff’s Office press release, “the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) received an unannounced visit by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Protective Service (FPS) in which it learned that approximately 2000 Afghan refugees, per month, were slated to arrive at the Washington Dulles International Airport during a window beginning as early as February 19, 2022, and extending to September 2022.” This gave them just two weeks to prepare for the influx. “DHS/FPS regional personnel advised the refugees would be transported by bus to the National Conference Center (NCC) where they would stay until their ultimate relocation elsewhere in the United States. DHS/FPS estimated that no more than 1000 refugees per month would remain at the NCC at any given time until September 2022. The refugees, for the most part, would enter the US from Qatar.”
Let’s remember that in Oct. 2021, a Congressional delegation in Qatar led by Rep. Darell Issa (R-Calif.) was told that fully 12,000 of the Afghans who had come to Camp As Sayliyah and then went on to the U.S. had no identification at all. Issa stated: “They came with nothing. No Afghan I.D., no I.D. of any sorts. Those people were all forwarded on to the U.S., and that’s quite an admission. So many people had no I.D. whatsoever and yet find themselves in the United States today based on what they said.”
Are any of these people we know absolutely nothing about going to Loudoun County? There’s no way to tell, but once they get there, they’ll have it made: “DHS/FPS advised that the refugees will be provided cash and cell phones from non-government organizations and be required to remain on the NCC grounds.” Whether voting for Democrats was a requirement for keeping the dough rolling in was not mentioned; maybe it’s just understood.

How goes it this morning Deano, old sport? I hope today finds you, the lovely Dylan and young Ari well. So much going on already this morning.
Joey, the Great Negotiator
Yet, there is a new scenario developing in regards to the Russia/Ukraine border standoff. After the Harris administrations numerous (erroneous) Russian invasion dates, we are going a different route. That champion of foreign policy, and border aficionado, Ole Joey Talibiden will try to broker a deal with Vladimir Putin to keep world peace. I don’t know about you Deano, but I feel a helluva lot better with this guy on the case. I mean, after his masterful performance in the Afghanistan debacle, I mean withdrawal, what could go wrong? On a side note, doesn’t the U.S. get military strategic information (invasion dates, for example) from our adversaries, you know like treasonous “General” Milley gives to China. One thing troubles me Deano. More and more media outlets are saying that this military build up is basically being staged by Putin, just to get what he wants. Joey’s handlers know that, and are trying to put lipstick on a pig: by ridiculously painting this mentally addled misfit, as the broker to keep world peace, while eventually giving into Putin’s demands. Are we really supposed to think this puppet is going to dictate terms to Putin, the right says. Conservatives don’t believe for a minute, that this former leader in the KGB is going to bow to a 5 time draft dodger (due to asthma, unless of course lifeguarding and playing sports in high school, and college).
Pulitzer Prize, Really?
Yeah right radical right, what are you going to say next, that the “Russian Collusion” (Pulitzer Prize worthy, NY Times, WAPO) travesty, was just an elaborate hoax to smear elected President Trump for nearly 4 years. By the way, Hillary’s lawyers are presently scrambling to get the Durham report throw out……..nothing to see here. Come on man! “You know, the thing.”
Problems, What Problems?
Time will tell, if this is just another narrative being drummed up by the equally nefarious and corrupt liberal machine (media obviously included). You know, to distract from the train wreck of the first year of the installed dementia ridden “POTUS.” Things like, the Southern border absolute debacle, rampant inflation, violent crime exploding across this once great country, racial divide worse then ever(great unifier?), Afghanistan disaster, over $30,000,000,000,000 in national debt, etc., etc., etc. Yep, Joey is going solve border issues half away around the world, when he can’t (won’t, by design) solve his own crisis…..ok, Deano. They better hurry up this ruse, the SOTU address is coming up fast, 3/1. Maybe Ole Nancy can get a postponement due to a new COVID variant. What a sweet, sincere gal she is; right up there with Joy Behar. It is kind of fun watching Joey play President though. We just have to try and cut the microphone faster though, before questions start coming his way, those pesky reporters. I think we need to get back to those favorite ice cream flavor questions again. He even cancelled a trip to Delaware during this tense time. That is not an easy task considering he has spent over a 1/4 of his installed time in the White House there. Word is he had family issues to attend to. Hopefully Hunter (famous artist), isn’t back on the pipe. If he is though, maybe he can get a hold of one of Joey’s $30,000,000 safe drug kits…see, win, win.
I don’t know what the fuss is all about anyway. We have Heels Up Harris over there using her persuasive ways. She is always force to reckon with, with or without Willie Brown. It still amazes me with all her great accomplishments: that she was only able to garner about 2% of the vote during the Democratic primaries……..truly unbelievable. I can’t for the life of me figure out why little Joey chose her with those numbers, can you Deano?
Antisemitic Assassination Attempt by BLM
Well, that is it for now. I’ll try and reach out to you later champ. I’d like to discuss the attempted assassination of a Jewish mayoral candidate In Kentucky by a BLM leader, a one Quintez Brown (out on bail). Maybe you could put that investigative reporter Kenny Vogel on the story. Or maybe get an opinion piece, by the fair and balanced opinion contributor Jamelle Bouie who seems to write about racial concerns very objectively. Maybe you could speak with them, when you get back from your highly non-diverse enclave in Larchmont, California. President Trump is a racist! Keep it up with the journalistic integrity your “newspaper” is known for. Keep on “printing the news that is fit to print.” Your investigative, unbiased reporting puts a smile on my face every morning.
I am writing about Vladimir Putin for three reasons: First, I belong to a few who know more about Vladimir Putin than others. Second, we are watching Putin’s Socialist Revolution in America. Third: the recently revealed Durham’s bombshell is not news for me. I was writing about the deep criminal conspiracy of Russia’s Intelligence with the Democrat Party for thirty years. Durham is on the right path to expose it. Yet, for expressing the conspiracy and sharing it with the American public, the FBI has submitted my name to the FISA Court and made me a Foreign Agent. That is the reason you still have not read my books and articles: they have become banned.
All America’s problems and troubles in 2022 are caused by Putin’s KGB’ Mafia/Army and that is the reason knowledge of Putin’s KGB Mafia/Army is imperative. I am a political refugee from Russia and I know Putin. He and I lived in the same city and we both were Soviet lawyers. We studied Marxism-Leninism and Stalinism at the Law School for four years. My major was Criminal Law, Putin’s was International Law. He graduated from Law School twenty years later when I had already been practicing law as a defense attorney. His mentor, a Chair of the International Law Faculty, was my close friend: a smart and very savvy man with broad political horizons, who gave Putin a recommendation to the KGB after Putin graduated from Law School.
Vladimir Putin is a creation of the Soviet Socialist System. That means: Putin is a byproduct of Stalin’s dreams of a One World Socialist Government under the Kremlin rule. Putin is connected to Stalin by the umbilical cord of ideology. It is the same connection Putin has with China and Chairman Xi Jinping; they are both war criminals, as natural allies representing Socialist/Communist forces waging the war against Western civilization and American Capitalism… I have been writing about this war for the last thirty years and have called it WWIII.
The Roots of WWIII: Socialist Revolution in America
It is not a coincidence that Peter Schweizer began his book Red Handed about China with a quotation from Vladimir Lenin and the Soviet times. That fact proves the real history of events—the war against American capitalism started a hundred years ago by Russia. Though China’s military now is a great danger to the United States today, however, Russia presents an existential threat to America, covertly destroying our republic from within. All America’s problems in 2022 derive from the decades of real collusion between Russia’s Intelligence and the American Democrat Party. Bill Clinton was the first American President recruited and drilled by the KGB under the Chairman, Yuri Andropov, in 1969-1970. Read the details in my book: What is Happening to America? The Hidden Truth of Global Destruction, XLIBRIS, 2012.
Yes, all America’s problems in 2022 are caused by Putin’s KGB Mafia/Army and that is the reason knowledge of Putin’s KGB Mafia/Army is imperative. The second American President, Barack Obama has been educated and drilled also by the KGB mafia/Army. The above-mentioned book details his story as well. The massive infiltration by the KGB Mafia/Army into American democratic institutions, courts, sports, and government took place during the time of Clinton’s and Obama’s presidencies. Biden’s presidency has also been created by the Putin’s KGB Mafia/Army and the first executive orders by Biden illustrated its anti-American essence: self-inflicted energy policy, inflation, and open borders have continued demolition of the American republic…
There is a special and fundamental idea in all my writings: exposing a war against Western civilization and American capitalism by totalitarian Regimes. That multi-faceted geopolitical war for world domination was started by Stalin and developed at the time by his devoted disciples, the KGB Chairman Yuri Andropov 1967-1982 and Vladimir Putin. This war has never stopped. The tension of Russia’s claim over Ukraine is that WWIII has been waged by Vladimir Putin in the center of Europe today. His desire to have a Great Russia will impact the entire world and destabilize the globe.
Putin’s practice of coercive diplomacy along with intimidation are a threat to the world order. Democracy is under attack and a dark future is looming. Modern Warfare has changed dramatically since WWII: there are now quadruple opportunities to kill and destroy, let alone cyberattacks and electronic warfare, known well by the KGB Mafia/Army.
Please, remember September 1, 1939 when WWII had begun by Nazis with a false flag operation Glaives: the German soldiers disguised in Polish uniform attacked Germany. Doesn’t it remind you of Putin’s preparation to attack Ukraine? This is the repetition and illustration of the aggressive and reckless behavior of their leader in the global setting! Fascism never sleeps. Watch similar events in our hemisphere.
I have been writing about worldwide Russian/China’s criminal activities for thirty years. Misinformation means in Russian—Disinformation. Planting a fraud is the usual Russian dirty trick and Putin is a master of provocation, dirty tricks, sabotage, and disinformation. I have deliberately focused your attention on the Soviet narrative-propaganda to lie, deceive, or defraud to advance the agenda—those are the tools. For that exact reason I was writing about Socialist modus operandi and describing it as lies, deceit, and fraud. Those verbs exactly portrayed the intent to misinform and mislead.
In fact, it was the exact task of Socialist modus operandi described by me based on Stalin’s Political Correctness and aimed at masking the truth and substituting it with the Stalinist Dogma of Soviet Socialism. The essence of Stalin’s PC, those precise narratives, actions, and events you can see in Biden’s 2021-2022 America. This Socialist modus operandi has been implemented in all countries of “the Axis of Evil” under the Russian umbrella, now run by Putin. Read my columns about “the Axis of Evil” to see the real division of the globe and the place the Democrat Party occupies.
I have already warned you that America looks very weak on the world stage in 2022 and as a result the criminal and aggressive “Axis of Evil” forces will act. You will see their real faces! In this respect, Hunter Biden’s connection with Moscow’s Mayor, which means the KGB, coupled with the weak personality of our President Biden is the crux of the matter. Watching and following Joe’s family for the last decade, I found his direct ties with Putin and the KGB. He has been collaborating with Putin since 2013-2014 or maybe even prior to that. You saw Biden illustrating his interest in helping Putin to suffocate democratic Ukraine. Do you remember Biden’s quid-pro-quo with $1 Billion of our money? He was against the democratic Ukraine!
Just look at Biden’s first executive orders to undermine American energy policy, the major engine of our independence and success of capitalism. His un-American energy policy impacted the American economy, creating a world crisis and giving control and power to Russia… At the same time Joe Biden helped Russia with the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, providing Putin with psychological support, and enabling him to act with further aggression. Biden didn’t “carry a big stick,” he did the opposite! I don’t trust Biden’s team and have suspected that the KGB has been running his presidency. Putin’s aggressive plan to surround a defenseless Ukraine on three sides with almost 200 thousand troops is a threat to Humanity and world stability. That conduct requires a stronger language against the Russian aggressor. Listening to Jake Sullivan, we heard the opposite. Wake up, America! Democrats keep failing you!
Watch the American administration’s narratives and actions: censorship, control, self-defeating energy policy, inflation, and surge of crime. Those are anti-American events opposing moral principles of our Constitutional Republic. Moreover, you can see a collaboration of the government with big-tech corporations censoring their descent. Pay attention to the recent policies of the Canadian and American administrations. Be aware: your political view may become the cause of freezing your bank account by the government. Socialism and Fascism are two sides of the same totalitarian coin and Fascism never sleeps.
Biden called Tridua to inspire him to apply more severe police force against trackers. Both administrations are deeming the Canadian Trackers and American parents to be the terrorists. For control and power they are expending the definition of terrorism, which is illegal. Recently, Justin Tridua is engaged in fascistic practicing, treating trackers as terrorists, arresting the leaders and their bank accounts. It is not law and order, but it is Martial Law against democracy.
Here is the right conclusion “Every day Americans need to wake up to how their own money is used to advance an ideological agenda that they find repugnant.” Vivek Ramaswamy.
Special Counsel Durham and the Fate of the Democrat Party
Yes, if Special Counsel John Durham knows Russia and its Intelligence, he will be able to prove the long-term treasonous activities of the Democrat Party leadership—a real collusion of the leadership with the KGB Mafia/Army. I was describing that exact collusion in my columns and books providing the reader with the names and events for thirty years. I had named six candidate-Democrats running for the U.S. presidency sponsored by the KGB. Some of them are now in the Biden administration. Read my book: Socialist Revolution in America, XLIBRIS, 2021
The entire Trump-Russia collusion narrative was a politically motivated scam, calculated, coordinated, and orchestrated by Russia’s Intelligence in concert with the leadership of the Democrat Party to cover up the crime they themselves have been committing for decades. The leaders of that politically motivated scam were Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Vladimir Putin. We were witnessing the KGB Mafia/Army Spez. Operation against the American Constitutional republic. The operation is still going on… Read about Stalin’s postulates and Andropov’s design to infiltrate America in my columns.
I think that Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin have a common agenda to save the Democrat Party from extinction; and that makes Putin’s hands free for an arrogant aggression. Today you see Putin’s psychological pressure on the West for concessions: he wants to have a Buffer-Zone and occupy Donbass in Eastern Ukraine.
Remember, the symbols played a big role in the Soviet mind. February 23d is the Day of the Soviet Army in Russia. Just wait!

When Joe Biden assumed the presidency one year ago, America had finally achieved energy independence. Iran was in chaos, fearing that its nuclear ambitions had been dashed. A year later, it’s America’s interests that have been dashed.
Biden campaigned on a pledge to rejoin the Iran nuclear accord and work on its weaknesses later. He seemed to believe that reinstituting deference and tacit assurances of eventual nuclear power status to Shiite Muslims would win concessions from the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. It didn’t work out.
Monitoring for compliance allowed under the treaty was notably lax. Still, at the end of 2020, the United Nations watchdog agency was investigating Iran for cheating on nuclear materials and production with a pending referral to the UN Security Council. Economic sanctions under the treaty had produced an economic crisis with mass protests throughout the country. Iran was reeling.
Biden came to the rescue. Instead of cracking down on Iran’s noncompliance with the treaty, he pressured America’s allies to pull back a censure resolution, sending a clear message to Iran that the US no longer minded that they were hiding nuclear sites and materials, in violation of the treaty and global nonproliferation agreements.
Iran immediately began investigating the new limits of America’s tolerance. The regime refused UN access to nuclear sites and increased uranium enrichment to 60%, far beyond the level required for peaceful nuclear power production.
Meanwhile, Iranians stepped up their violence in the region, including drone and rocket attacks on American forces. Biden not only refused to respond militarily to the terrorist attacks, but he also ended support for a Saudi-led campaign against the Iran-backed Houthis and removed America’s defense missiles from Saudi Arabia.
As Iran accelerated its nuclear program and regional military aggression, Biden inexplicably helped avoid a financial crisis too. He suspended sanctions, giving Iran accessibility to frozen funds and to Chinese oil imports.
Iran is up and running. We better hope that the mullahs are just kidding with their “Death to America” chants.
Biden’s response to America’s energy needs has been similarly woke and pathetic. At the conclusion of the Trump presidency, America had achieved energy independence for the first time in 50 years.
Trump encouraged the shale oil and gas revolution. He lifted restrictions on drilling, especially in remote areas. He permitted vitally needed pipelines. He blocked extreme environmental regulations that intentionally reduced our gas and oil supplies. As a result, America had surplus fuel supplies and no longer had to import oil from Arabs, Russians, Iranians or Mexicans.
Biden promptly, inexplicably (simple Trump hatred?) reversed all the Trump policies when in office. We’re importing again. The economic cost of losing our energy independence is about $50 billion annually.
Now Biden has to grovel, unsuccessfully, with OPEC to increase production. Once again, we have to be mindful of our energy needs when dealing with foreign actors.
Moreover, even if you believe only massive carbon reduction mandates can keep the planet from burning, none of this affects climate change. The Biden reforms don’t affect which fuels we consume, only whether we buy them from our own producers or overseas, where power plants are often more polluting than ours.
America’s worst enemy could hardly have inflicted more damage than has our own president. In thrall to a tiny faction of far-left ideologues, Biden has suffered multiple other failures, too, including immigration, inflation, urban crime, and school closures.
Unfortunately, here’s where it gets partisan and divisive. The solemn duty of the Republican party is to remove this person and his ilk from office before they do more irreversible harm to the republic. That duty includes nominating the quality candidates most likely to win elections, which may not always be the ones most popular with Republicans.
In 2020, Trump lost an election to an exceptionally weak candidate who hardly campaigned and who was uninspiring even to his own supporters. Considering historical precedent and his record in office, Trump deserved to win in a landslide.
Instead, he lost. Hard as it may be to accept, many voters wanted somebody, anybody who “wasn’t Trump“.
In service to their country and posterity, Republicans need to be more strategic, starting now. It’s important.
