For Some, July 4th Must Be Difficult

July 4th celebrates the birth of our great nation. In addition, for most of this year, we all will be celebrating events related to the 250th anniversary of this nation’s founding. We will be singing Lee Greenwood for most of the year.

For most of us, this will be a time of joy and reflection on the seminal ideas that created the greatest country on earth.

However, for some Americans, this must be a challenging time. It seems several places are cancelling 4th of July celebrations, mainly in California.

The same crowd that wants to cancel other American holidays, such as Columbus Day and Thanksgiving, is now targeting America’s birthday. But will they celebrate Pride Month?

For them, we would be celebrating a country founded on slavery and the massacre of native Americans. It is a nation founded on Judeo-Christian values, the Scottish and English Enlightenments, British common law, capitalism, and the concept of a government limited in power by checks and balances derived from a written Constitution.

So, if the Howard Zinn school of history has educated you to believe we all live on “stolen ground”, and that the Founders designed the country to protect slavery, and you further despise the moral restrictions of Judaism and Christianity, hate limited government and capitalism, you probably find the whole celebration of these ideas sickening.

Asked point blank by Dennis Prager, Zinn admitted it would have been better for the world if the United States had never been founded. A world without America, he felt, would be a better world. That succinctly summarizes the position of the Left in this country.

In short, this must be a difficult time of year if you are a liberal Democrat. That was not always the case, of course. Many Democrats once held a deep affection for their country and its history. But not those of recent vintage.

When challenged, Democrats are deeply offended if you suggest that they don’t love their country, too. They will say they love America just as much as Conservatives or Republicans. Really? If so, why are they trying to “fundamentally transform” (in the words of Barack Obama) the country?

Can you imagine saying ” I love you” to a woman, and then saying: “I hate the way you talk, I hate the way you move, I hate what you believe, I hate your family, I hate your religion, I don’t like the way you smell, and I hate your silly thoughts about being exceptional. ” It would not strike a normal person as very complementary or loving, would it?

I mean, realistically, if you believe deep down that the country was founded on slavery and genocide, how could you celebrate its founding and success? You don’t like the Constitution and the idea of limited government. You hate private property and the inherent inequality of outcome that stems from a meritocracy; you would have to hate the country.

It is tantamount to telling a girl you love her, and then saying, by the way, I would like to change everything about you!

Isn’t that what fundamentally transforming means?  It means to radically change the country because you don’t love your country and what it stands for. You passionately love something else, but it is not the idea and history of America.

And what if most of America does not agree with your superficial and biased historical analysis, and does not want their free country transformed into the socialist paradise that lurks in the visions of the transformers? You would equally dislike your fellow citizens who don’t get you, who resist you, who oppose you, and mock your credibility?

You would think of them as the smelly people at Wal-Mart, people who cling to their guns and God, as Obama put it. Or Hillary’s classic outburst during her basket of deplorables speech:

  • “You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic—you name it.”

  • Some of those folks — they are irredeemable, but thankfully, they are not America.”

In short, not only do they despise the country because of their distorted and inaccurate history of the country, but they also dislike most of its citizens. So, if you hate the history and structure of a nation, and most of its people, how can you say you love America?

Oddly, though, they love the 20 million illegal aliens who have moved to the US, but not most of the citizens who already live here. And it does not seem to dawn on them that the flow of 20 million people, and many more if allowed, are moving to a country they despise and say is awful. Why would a mass migration flood a country as evil as America?

Thankfully, most Americans don’t believe what they were taught in school and by Hollywood.  Somehow, they knew it was a lie, contradicting what they had experienced in their own lives. That is why over two million Africans have emigrated to the US in recent years. That’s why millions of Mexicans and others cross deserts and continents to get here.  They know America is a much better place than most graduate students in political science believe.

Perhaps it’s because they didn’t have Howard Zinn textbooks in Nigeria.

Thus, for those America haters, we would say we sympathize that this 4th of July, and this year of celebration of America, might leave you uncomfortable.

We would ask you, though, if what America stands for, and what its people believe, is so repugnant, why do you stay here? Why don’t you migrate out while others are migrating in? Are you betraying your ideals for the prosperity supplied to you by other Americans? Join Rosie O’Donnell in Ireland. She may be nuts, but at least she is consistent.

And don’t blame your feelings on Trump. It goes much deeper than that. The way you look at the country, its very founding is immoral and illegitimate. Trump had nothing to do with that. So, don’t put this all on Trump. You hate America. Admit it and take responsibility for your beliefs.

Or, get yourself educated. Your hate, after all, is just a social construct. We would be glad to help you deconstruct your hate and fundamentally transform your view of America.

But to the rest of America, Happy 4th of July and God Bless America!
