I’m From The Government And I Am Here To Help

All the way back in August 1986—39 years ago— President Ronald Reagan said that the nine most terrifying words in the English language are “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” That was as true then as it’s true now.
The Progressive Left is going crazy as it sees the Trump Administration canceling one money-losing, ill-conceived Leftist pet program or project after another, including but not limited to the Green New Scam, discriminatory and hateful DEI programs, biological men on women’s sports teams, and so forth. But it doesn’t stop there. Progressive Left propaganda mouthpieces like the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times keep running articles on how the economy is faltering. It seems as though any time bad economic news surfaces, that news is trumpeted all over the business or economy sections of the newspaper. No opportunity is missed to show the economy is on the brink of a disastrous collapse.
It’s hardly any secret that the Progressive Left is secretly hoping for the economy to fail and for millions of people to be put out of work so that Donald Trump can be blamed for it all. Despite its professed love for the working class, there is nothing the Progressive Left would like to see more than the Average Joe to be homeless, out on the street and singing “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?”
But, as a surprise to many, none of this is actually happening. The economy remains strong, and the stock market continues to move relentlessly higher. It must be hugely frustrating for a leftist reporter to churn out one pessimistic article after another only to read the next day that the Dow Jones Industrial Average just went up 300 points.
Here we are, October 3, 2025, three days into the federal government’s shutdown, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average, after hitting an all-time high at 47,049.64, closed today up 238.56 points at 46,758.28 and the S&P 500, also hitting an all-time high today, finished higher at 6,715.79. Whether these indices will move higher or lower next week or the following week is, of course, anyone’s guess, but the mere fact that the major market averages are moving higher at all during the federal government’s Schumer Shutdown is quite telling.
Could it possibly be that conservatives have long been correct in asserting that although minimal levels of government (police, fire, military, courts, etc.) are essential for any civilized society, more government beyond that minimal level is counterproductive, not productive? That the legions of government bureaucrats America has been afflicted with since the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration impede economic growth and prosperity, they don’t enhance it? Despite all the negative press the Gilded Age (1870-1900) has received over the years, it was a far more prosperous era than our own, once adjustment is made for all the advances in science and technology that have occurred.
And now, for the very first time since 1933, the Administrative State (also known as the Deep State) is in a precipitous and disorganized retreat, thanks to Donald J. Trump and the knowledgeable and competent people he brought into the Trump Administration.
And so we have a series of conservative truths being proven up in real time:
Our economy is growing stronger now that tens of thousands of federal government bureaucrats are being removed from the gravy train and forced to earn an honest living in the private sector.
The economy works far better without these bureaucrats gumming up the works.
Our electric grids work better now that natural gas and clean coal are being favored over bird-killing and whale-killing wind farms. “It’s windy again, now we can turn our lights back on,” was never a good way to live.
The “best man or woman for the job” is a better method of selecting an employee than using their skin color as the decisive factor.
“Defund the Police” was always a ridiculously bad idea, along with cashless bail and putting criminals back on the street who have a rap sheet as long as your arm.
During the first Trump Administration, the economy grew at a rapid rate until it came to a screeching halt due to the COVID-19 ‘pandemic’. Job income for black and Hispanic people grew at the fastest rate ever.
The second Trump Administration promises a return to that golden era, and it will be a direct result of defunding the Bureaucracy and jettisoning the various money-losing projects that a useless and counterproductive bureaucracy has foisted upon us.
Happiness is a Department of Education bureaucrat leaving Washington D.C. with a DEI coordinator under each arm.

Switch to Patriot Mobile
The Prickly Pear supports Patriot Mobile Cellular and its Four Pillars of Conservative Values: the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, the Right to Life, and significant support for our Veterans and First Responders. When you switch to Patriot Mobile, not only do you support these causes, but most customers will also save up to 50% on their monthly cellular phone bill.
Here at The Prickly Pear, we know that switching to a new cellular service can be challenging at times. Let’s face it, no one wants the hassle. But that hassle is necessary if Conservatives want to support those who support them.
