Although we hesitate to read the Scriptures as policy briefs, there is one sense in which Charlie Kirk is straightforwardly correct: the Old Testament is the story of a nation constantly struggling to preserve its national identity as the Chosen People against a world of paganism, false gods, and greater powers. There is perhaps a deeper understanding to be applied here about America, one not outrightly biblical, but informed by a historical fact, as large and looming as any one fact may be: America was founded for Christians on a Judeo-Christian foundation.
