Will America Be Held Hostage?

Many in the media are raising legitimate questions about tactical aspects of the Biden Blunder in Afghanistan. Among them are things we have questioned ourselves, such as why was Bagram Airbase abandoned, why dismantle the intelligence capabilities, long before consideration was given to the U.S. citizens likely to still be in-country? The military leaves last, not first.

Why was not more care taken to remove U.S. military equipment and did the Administration listen to intelligence officials about the poor state of the Afghan army? Was this a massive intelligence failure or was the civilian political leadership simply not listening? Was it both?

Why were US citizens not advised earlier to leave the country?

These are all good questions and we hope the appropriate Congressional committees will do their job and ask these and even more questions. With Congress in the hands of Democrats though, they are more likely to keep whining about the January 6 Capitol riot, but we can always hope.

But perhaps more important is the strategic error made by Biden that now has the potential to hold the entire country hostage, not just the poor souls stuck behind enemy lines. The stranded Americans are hostages, which in turn make hostages of the rest of us.

The Biden Administration now needs desperately for the Taliban to behave themselves, and let Americans and their Afghan allies leave through checkpoints the Taliban completely control. Otherwise, the Administration will make Neville Chamberlain look courageous. Thus, the Taliban has it in their power to precipitate a political crisis in the United States.

They also hold nationals from NATO countries; thus, the Taliban have in their hands the power to split the alliance.

It is never a good idea to maneuver yourself in such a way that your adversary has such a superior position that they alone can call the outcome of a struggle. Biden has somehow done it though, with the cooperation of the naïve diplomats in the State Department.

Think of the possible scenarios which could develop:

The Taliban want the IMF and the Federal Reserve to release their money. We think that holding those funds gives us leverage.

If the Taliban were to start beheading Americans on our nightly television, there would be great pressure to go back in with overwhelming force or pay up. The problem is they have our people, which could make military options extremely dangerous to execute. We also have lost important staging areas. Nearby Pakistan is not reliable and every move would be telegraphed to the Taliban, who the Pakistanis sheltered.

What about diplomatic pressure. The Taliban now have it within their power to completely humiliate the Administration, and bring it down as well. So, what will Biden be forced to do to encourage their cooperation? He will give them their money and likely much more. And if we don’t do enough, they can let him know in no uncertain terms that they have the power to create a public relations and political catastrophe for the Democrats.

Moreover, militant Islam has global ambitions. Not just against the West but also against more moderate Muslim countries that work with the West. What better situation could you be in than to inflict water torture on the West, to humble and humiliate the most powerful of the Western countries?

Blundering Joe Biden has not only endangered the lives of tens of thousands of American citizens stranded in one of the most remote and hostile places on earth, but he has also managed to put us and NATO, and our non-NATO allies at a complete disadvantage in the War on Terror and the struggle with militant Islam.

Some are already drawing parallels to the Iranian hostage crisis and how this crisis, if you are old enough to remember, how humiliated and depressed the psyche of the American people and its government grew over time. The entire country was soon suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

This current predicament is much worse on several levels. The sheer number of people involved is far greater. The number of countries involved is much greater.

Unlike in 1979 where our diplomats were seized, Biden actually has provided the Taliban the human fodder to blackmail the entire Western alliance. No hostages had to be seized, he gave them to the Taliban on a silver platter.

The hostages are not concentrated at an embassy but scattered throughout a large and primitive country. Any kind of precision hostage rescue is out of the question. You might recall even our attempt at embassy storming venture ended in tragedy and humiliation. But the geographic scale of the current problem is vastly greater.

Biden also largely provided the leadership for the enemy. It was he and Obama, releasing key leaders from GITMO, that did that. Adding insult to injury, he has additionally armed them to the teeth.

What if they strike up a strategic partnership with the Chinese? That is a real concern and not hypothetical. They won’t need money from the West as the Chinese will be their banker. We will lose all military and economic leverage. They can humiliate us at will and the Chinese can pay for the show.

Perhaps this is the greatest blunder in military history. We provide the hostages, we provide key leaders for the opposition, and we provide the arms for our own destruction.

These are not Iranian students, but cold-blooded killers that fly airliners into New York skyscrapers. They have been fighting for years and have the advantage of fighting on their home turf.

They have faith in their religion and are so dogmatic, they are willing to die for it. In the West, there are hardly any ideas left we are willing to die for.

Biden and the Democrats have only faith in pollsters and holding power and are not concerned about spreading religious faith but winning the next election. It is doubtful they even understand people who would die over religion.

Who has the advantage here? The Taliban are in a position to twist our tails until we scream for relief. Biden and the Democrats put us in this situation, and it was all unnecessary.

If you were a cold-blooded killer, absolutely convinced of your superior faith and the moral decline of your adversary, would you take advantage of the situation?

You’ve just answered the question.
