The former mayor of a Maryland college town pleaded guilty Wednesday to 140 charges stemming from child pornography possession and distribution, prosecutors said.
Patrick Wojahn had served as the mayor of College Park for about eight years before his resignation and arrest in March.
Wojahn pleaded guilty to 60 counts of distribution of child pornography, 40 counts of possession of child pornography, and 40 counts of possession of child pornography with the intention to distribute, according to a Wednesday news release from Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The former mayor of College Park pleaded guilty to 140 child pornography charges as part of a deal with Prince George’s County prosecutors that will have him spend 30 years behind bars.
Patrick Wojahn, 47, was indicted by a grand jury in March on 80 counts of possession and intent to distribute child pornography, and then again in a superseding indictment in May on 140 counts, according to online court records. He pleaded guilty to every count of that second indictment — 60 counts of distribution of child pornography, 40 counts of possession of child pornography and 40 counts of possession of child pornography with the intent to distribute — in Prince George’s County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

The Maryland mayor charged on Thursday with 56 child pornography-related charges has visited the White House several times since President Biden took office and previously described Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg as his mentor.
College Park, Maryland, Mayor Patrick Wojahn resigned Wednesday night ahead of being arrested by Prince George’s County police Thursday on 40 counts of possession of child pornography and 16 counts of distributing child pornography
Wojahn, a Democrat, said in his resignation letter that he would “cooperate with law enforcement” and did not wish to serve as a distraction.
