‘The Parents Are The Educators’: Virginia Rally Urges Voters To “Push Back” Against School’s Liberal Agendas

Advocacy groups hosted a “Virginia Families First” rally in Loudoun County on Saturday, calling for change and parental rights in the public school system.

Hosted by CatholicVote and Fight For Schools, the rally — held in front of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors building — urged Catholic and Christian Virginians to vote against “liberal politicians” and fix the public school system.

“America is watching Loudoun County. All of America, and [they] have been inspired by parents stepping forward to annoy [Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate] Terry McAuliffe by actually trying to have a say in their child’s education,” former Attorney General Ken Cucinelli said. “The nerve, the nerve of you parents, who of course, we Catholics, and all Christians believe that parents are the educators.”

At the Tuesday gubernatorial debate, McAuliffe argued that parents should not advise schools on the content taught to their children. During his term as governor in 2016, he vetoed the “Beloved” bill that would have allowed parents to be notified of their child’s potential exposure to “sexually explicit books” and to opt their children out of any lessons they deem as inappropriate.

Parents angrily responded to the Fairfax County High School allegedly presenting two books that contained “sexually explicit material” without their knowledge or consent. The school removed the books “Gender Queer” by Maia Kobabe and “Lawn Boy” by Jonathan Evison for allegedly containing descriptions of masturbation and pedophilia.

A local parent, Joe Mobley, said that the school system has gotten rid of advanced curriculums and that the children will be “toast” because they will not be properly educated. He argued it is partially the parents’ fault along with the teachers and the “radical, progressive school boards.”

Patty Hidalgo Menders, a local mother and president of the Loudoun County Republican Women’s Club, argued that parents must “push back” against the public school system, and fight for the “hearts and souls” of the children.

“The Left wants to divide us. We need to protect the very freedoms of our children in the schools,” Hidalgo Menders said at the rally. “We need to push back against dividing our children by the color of their skin, we need to push back against there being victims and oppressors, we need to push back against allowing boys to use girlfriends, removing father-daughter dances, and fundamentally changing the culture of our children’s schools.”

“We must be courageous, courage begets courage. This is a battle for the hearts and souls of our children. And one important way you can fight back is at the ballot box,” Hidalgo Menders said at the rally.

The Loudoun County school system has come under fire for its teachings on race, sex and gender, leading several parents have rallied against the school system mainly for its teachings on Critical Race Theory.

The Loudoun County School Public Schools Minority Student Achievement Advisory Committee said in March that they will “silence” parents and guardians opposed to CRT, which holds that America is fundamentally racist, yet teaches every person to view every social interaction and person in terms of race.

The rally urged the participants to vote in the upcoming Nov. 2 Virginia election, where McAuliffe and his Republican opponent Glenn Youngkin hope to become the next governor.

American Express Embraces Marxism, Racial Segregation with “Action Plan”

For 50 years, Martin Luther King, Jr. set the course for how we deal with race in America. “I have a dream,” he said, “my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

His vision resonated in part because of its harmony with American values. We are “created equal.” Racial equality is fundamentally American.

Today, though, a new vision of race is making its way up the cultural totem pole. It’s called critical race theory, CRT for short, but in practice, it looks a lot like the segregation that civil rights leaders fought. CRT divides everything from group conversations to college dorms by racial, religious, and gender “identity groups.” White people with white people, black people with black people.

Make no mistake: CRT is un-American. But it’s getting the red-carpet treatment from woke corporations like American Express.

As Tyler O’Neil reported in FoxBusiness last week, American Express (1.00) invested $1 billion in an “anti-racism action plan” in 2020. Christopher Rufo, America’s foremost CRT whistleblower, detailed how the company forced its employees to attend CRT trainings that instructed “privileged” white people and Christians to defer to minorities before speaking. Some phrases, such as “I don’t see color,” were banned outright, threatening free speech.

Then, “anti-racist” speaker Khalil Muhammed showed the Marxist roots of the CRT ideology by attacking capitalism as fundamentally racist. Never mind that free-market economies have pulled billions of people out of poverty across all continents, not just Europe and North America.

But spreading a subversive ideology that segregates America along racial lines is the last straw – it’s time to cancel your American Express card! Fourth graders at a school in St. Cloud, Minnesota, have been told not to tell their parents about the racist, anti-white training at school.

Lids were told to stay mum about an “equity survey” they were required to fill out that informs the white kids about how racist they all are. Per Fox News:According to a video uploaded by Alphanews, when students didn’t understand some of the survey questions, they were told by a teacher in the Sartell-St. Stephen School District to not repeat the survey questions to their parents.

“The survey asked questions that some students didn’t understand. Even after hearing an explanation from their teacher, some still couldn’t comprehend the survey questions,” The Center Square reported.

The George Floyd incident sparked a nationwide conversation on race and the role of policing. School districts across America are pushing critical race theory on students to attempt to contextualize current events on matters of race.

The parents found out, anyway, though. And they are none too happy about their kids being exposed to the woke anti-whit critical race theory curriculum.

Kelsey Yasgar said that although parents were “informed that the equity audit was taking place, they were not informed on the date of the activity and not given other details.” She explained further that due to the lack of transparency from the school district and from Equity Alliance Minnesota, the third party that administered the survey, parents were not informed of the questions being asked to the students.

Yasgar was “very upset” when her daughter told her that she was instructed by teachers not to repeat any of the questions being asked of them.

“I do want to say though I believe that this wasn’t a single case that her teacher made this decision. We had been informed that this came down from the administration and Equity Alliance of Minnesota instructed them to make sure the children did not share this information with their parents and that should pose a great concern in any parents’ eyes,” Hayley said.

Folks, don’t just blink and pass over this story. It is being repeated in every single school in the U.S.A.

This is what desperation looks like. Nikki Fried knows that she can’t defeat Governor DeSantis on the issues. That is why she is playing the race card. A very typical tactic from the Left. When they can’t win an argument, they will more often then not accuse their opponent of racism. Here is the good news. It’s not going to work. Nikki Fried will get trounced by Governor DeSantis in Florida’s upcoming gubernatorial election. No matter how much favorable news coverage she gets from the mainstream media. That’s assuming she even wins her party’s nomination.

Fried made the comments on Jacksonville radio Monday.

Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried contended Monday that Gov. Ron DeSantis seeks a “race war and a cultural war.”

Fried, appearing on WJCT-FM’s “First Coast Connect,” was answering a listener question about the recently instituted Board of Education ban on teaching critical race theory and the 1619 Project, when she made the comment critical of the rule change.

“This is another opportunity for the Governor to create a race war and cultural war, inside of our state,” Fried told host Melissa Ross.

“I want everybody to rest assured. First of all, critical race theory is the new bogeyman of the Republican Party. It’s not something that’s taught in the state of Florida,” Fried noted. “But we need to let our teachers do their jobs and that’s teach.”

“This Governor and this Board of Education who is, again, appointed solely by Republican Governors like Ron DeSantis and the previous Governor as well, it is not their job to tell our teachers how to — sure, there’s parameters (and) policies, but this is a time when they have overstepped once again, government stepping into the job of educating, and not the teachers.”

“This is, again, a bogeyman the Governor is pushing out there to put fear into the people’s minds,” Fried continued.

“He did it intentionally, not because there’s a worry about something like this, but to create a culture war in our state. I know people in our state are smarter than this and aren’t going to fall for this political rhetoric spewed by Ron DeSantis and the Republican Party,” Fried said.

Fried’s criticism of DeSantis drew a response Tuesday morning from the Republican Governors’ Association.

“Nikki Fried’s accusations against the Governor aren’t just desperate, they’re dangerous,” said RGA spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez. “Fried has shown repeatedly that she’s incapable of being truthful about pretty much anything. Her resorting to lies and malicious manipulations on her own liberal biography and views on critical race theory are just more of the same.”

Fried’s direct criticisms of the Board of Education’s ban on teaching critical race theory and like concepts comes after DeSantis, in the wake of the board’s decision, contended some teachers would rather teach critical race theory than reading.

“Some of the nonsense that you see in some of these places around the country, I mean, they will attack cops with this type of ideology in schools, and meanwhile, they have like 87% of the kids that aren’t even literate in some of these schools. So it shows you they’re not trying to educate; they’re trying to indoctrinate,” DeSantis said.

“We’re not going to let that come to Florida. And so I’m glad that they acted. I think it’s the right thing to do. We’re going to make sure that we’re providing access to education, but solid education, free of some of this ideology that people are trying to shove down everybody’s throats.”

Even as Democrats such as Fried object to the DeSantis agenda, donors flock to him.

DeSantis, who reported nearly $40 million cash on hand in his Friends of Ron DeSantis political committee as of the end of May, has been fundraising off the critical race theory ban for days.

“I will NOT allow this Cultural Marxism to Gain a Foothold in Florida Schools,” an email solicitation sent Thursday reads.

The new guidance for teachers certainly offers content guardrails.

American history is to be defined “largely on universal principles stated in the Declaration of Independence.” Teachers’ apparent efforts “to indoctrinate or persuade students to a particular point of view” will also be banned, as is “fiction or theory masquerading as facts.”

A Chinese woman who survived Communist Chinese leader Mao Tse-Tung’s regime slammed Loudoun County’s School Board in Virginia for teaching Critical Race Theory in its schools, asserting the lessons are “very familiar…the only difference is [Communist China] used class instead of race.”

“I’ve been very alarmed by what’s going on in our schools. You are now training our children to be social justice warriors and to loathe our country and our history,” the Chinese woman told the school board. “Growing up in Mao’s China, all of this seems very familiar. The Communist regime used the same critical theory to divide people; the only difference is they used class instead of race.”

“We were also encouraged to report on each other, just like the Student Equity Ambassador program and the Bias Reporting System,” she recalled, adding, “This is, indeed, the American version of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. The Critical Race Theory has its roots in cultural Marxism. It should have no place in our schools.”

According to WTOP, Loudoun County parents sued the school board on June 3, accusing the school district leaders of violating students’ freedom of speech.

“…basic principles like the First Amendment have not stopped the
Loudoun County School Board from prescribing exactly what shall be orthodox for its students. LCPS is all-in on a curricular framework that expects students to speak, act, and think in line with a particular ideology,” the lawsuit states. “Any dissent from that ideology can be labeled as ‘bias’ and anonymously reported to the speech police, a group of hand picked students who share the LCPS administration’s ideology, charged to pass judgment on those classmates that their peers turn in.”

The lawsuit says the school board has implemented racial distinctions between its students in the name of “dismantling systemic racism,” specifically noting the position of “Student Equity Ambassador,” which is appointed based on race and “discriminates against students on the basis of their viewpoint.”

“The Board has also implemented a viewpoint discriminatory ‘bias reporting system’ that chills students’ speech on matters of important public concern,” the lawsuit continues. “Each of these policies violates the Constitution’s guarantees of free speech and equality before the law.”

Florida Republican Rep. Says Gov. DeSantis Is Right To Ban Critical Race Theory From Schools

Republican Florida Rep. Byron Donalds reaffirmed his support for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ critical race theory ban from the state’s new civics curriculum.

“There’s no room in our classrooms for critical race theory. Teaching kids to hate their country and to hate each other is not worth one red cent of taxpayer money,” DeSantis said during a press conference this week.

“Governor DeSantis is absolutely correct,” Donalds said Friday on “Fox News Primetime.”

“Yes, we have dark spots in our history. I’m the first to acknowledge that, but we also have to understand that our country is the great story of redemption in world history,” Donalds said. “We are a far better country than we were 100 years ago, 200 years ago. And, we need to embrace our history, but also understand and embrace the country we are today and the country we continue to become every single year going forward. So I applaud the governor and his decision. We need to see more of that in the other 49 states.”

“[Critical Race Theory] underpins identity politics, an ongoing effort to reimagine the United States as a nation riven by groups, each with specific claims on victimization,” the Heritage Foundation said in December.

DeSantis said Florida will instead focus on an “actual, solid, true curriculum and we will be a leader in the development and implementation of a world-class civics education,” Fox News reported.

DeSantis pledged to spend $106 million to support civics education in Florida after receiving additional funding from President Biden’s coronavirus stimulus package that was signed into law last week, according to Fox News.

If Critical Race Theory turns everything into race, isn’t it racist?

An unpleasant incident at an elite US women’s college shows the danger of trusting feelings over facts.


Last week the New York Times resurfaced a notorious racial profiling incident that took place in 2018 at Smith College, in Northhampton, Massachusetts. The story has struck a chord globally because of the light it sheds on the race struggle underway in the United States—a struggle now rippling across the Western world.

Smith College is the largest of the “Seven Sisters”, elite colleges for women in northeastern US; tuition, room and board for its students are about US$78,000 a year. Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, and Gloria Steinem are amongst its distinguished alumnae.

In the summer of 2018, Oumou Kanoute, a black student, was eating lunch alone in a dorm lounge. She was approached by a janitor and a campus police officer who inquired as to what she was doing there.

The encounter was distressing for Kanoute, who felt it to be part of a year-long pattern of harassment. “All I did was be Black,” she later wrote on Facebook. “It’s outrageous that some people question my being at Smith College, and my existence overall as a woman of colour.” She was especially upset that the officer was likely carrying a firearm.

The president of the college apologised to Kanoute, put the janitor on paid leave, and hired a law firm to investigate the incident. Apologising for the affair, the president wrote,

This painful incident reminds us of the ongoing legacy of racism and bias in which people of colour are targeted while simply going about the business of their ordinary lives.

In the months following, officials at the college emphasised “reconciliation and healing” and announced anti-bias staff training and the creation of separate dormitories for students of colour.

The problem, of course, is that the investigation eventually found no “persuasive evidence of bias”. As a Times opinion columnist highlights, “the narrative of racist harassment of a minority student at an elitist white institution turned out to be comprehensively false.”

Michael Powell, the Times reporter covering the story, summarised the findings of the law firm’s investigation:

Ms. Kanoute was determined to have eaten in a deserted dorm that had been closed for the summer; the janitor had been encouraged to notify security if he saw unauthorised people there. The officer, like all campus police, was unarmed.

Unwittingly, Powell exposes the postmodern dilemma underlying the events at Smith College. He writes of “the tensions between a student’s deeply felt sense of personal truth and facts that are at odds with it.”

Truth be told, Kanoute’s “deeply felt sense of personal truth” did a lot of damage. She named and doxxed a janitor and a cafeteria worker who weren’t even involved in calling campus security that day. The stress of this caused a flare-up of lupus in one and anxiety attacks for the other—not to mention death threats.

And there was of course the national impact: the amplification of claims that the United States is “systemically racist”—a narrative that was never tempered by the ultimate findings of the law firm, since the news cycle had long moved on.

Owing to their breed, bogeymen aren’t easily put back in cages.

We know this, not just from the Smith College incident, but a string of apparently racist incidents that have turned out to be short on facts and long on a “deeply felt sense of personal truth”. Jussie SmollettBubba Wallace and the Covington Affair are just a few that spring to mind.

To the credit of the New York Times, columnist Bret Stephens was permitted to dissect the incident in an insightful piece called “Smith College and the Failing Liberal Bargain”. (This was a somewhat surprising compromise from an outlet that suffered multiple newsroom revolts over comparable stories in 2020).

Stephens asks, “Why does the embrace of social justice pedagogies seem to have gone hand in hand with deteriorating race relations on campus?”

Indeed.

Stephens rightly discerns that the Smith College affair is further evidence, not merely of a racial struggle in the West, but a brewing cultural revolution. “Liberal ideals themselves are up for renegotiation,” he warns.

That much is clear to anyone who has examined Critical Race Theory in some depth, the ideology shaping this revolution. Despite assertions to the contrary, Critical Race Theory is not simply about racial sensitivity. As I have documented elsewhere,

The West has long prized evidence, logic and reason as the way to discern truth from falsehood. Critical Race Theory rejects this, claiming that every part of the Western liberal order—including ideas like merit, rational inquiry, the rule of law, and individual liberty—are the very tools being used to perpetuate white supremacy and oppress people of colour.

When Stephens writes that “liberal ideals themselves are up for renegotiation,” he really means it. And he has the receipts. As Stephens points out, this is not mainly a “left versus right” battle: it’s an all-out war between the liberal left and the Woke left. “Well-meaning liberals,” he writes, “don’t seem to understand the illiberal nature of what they are facing.”

By every measure, Critical Race Theory is racism by another name. Writes Stephens,

In place of former notions of fairness toward individuals regardless of race, the Woke left has new ideas of “restorative justice” for racial groups. In place of traditional commitments to free speech, it has new proscriptions on hate speech. In place of the liberal left’s past devotion to facts, it demands new respect for feelings.

What we are witnessing is postmodernism in full flower. And given its penchant for raw power, it won’t go away until the morally courageous stand up and name it for what it is.

Action Civics Is Teaching Our Kids to Protest


Many young Americans seem to have a growing disdain for our country. According to a Gallup poll, pride in our nation has declined, especially among young adults.
Young adults are taking to the streets and not merely protesting but wreaking havoc, rioting and looting, tearing down statues, and shutting down anyone who doesn’t share their perspective.
One reason this is happening is what our children are being taught in school. And that doesn’t mean only in college. We all know college campuses have become centers of radical indoctrination, but now it is happening in K-12 as well, through something called action civics, a new movement in civic education.
As educator Thomas Lindsay explains, action civics was born in 2010 when six organizations set out to redefine civic education. Dissatisfied with traditional civics, which depended on book learning, they wanted to create a new civics that was more experiential. They wanted kids to engage, get involved, get active.

The problem is that without a solid understanding of why the Founders were so deliberate in designing our self-governing republic, with its separation of powers to prevent any one branch from becoming tyrannical, or establishing the rule of law so that we would not be subject to the whims of any one person, we risk falling into the same traps of other, less just regimes.
Indeed it is no accident that today’s protests are looking more like the French Revolution, with its guillotines and beheadings, than the American Revolution, with its debates and deliberations.

Robert Pondiscio, himself once a proponent and teacher of action civics, wrote that it has grown into “a manipulative and cynical use of children as political props in the service of causes they understand superficially, if at all.”
Indeed a study published by the National Association of Scholars found that action civics projects essentially teach students to protest for progressive political causes.
As Peter Wood, president of the National Association of Scholars, pointed out, the “new civics” is in fact a form of anti-civics. It does not teach students how our government works or, even more importantly, their critical role as citizens in a self-governing republic. Rather, it simply teaches them how to be activists.
For many today, it feels as if our country never has been more divided and the ideals of our Founders never more at risk. That is due in no small part to what is being taught in our schools.
Parents must step up and take a more active role in their children’s education, carefully watching what their children are being taught. The good news is that with the COVID-19 crisis and the prevalence of online learning, it is easier than ever before for parents to keep an eye on what is being taught to their children.
But what parents do with that information is what really matters. They must engage with schools, school boards, teachers, and principals to ensure that students are taught more than simply how to protest.
