Laying Siege to the Institutions

The following is adapted from a speech delivered at Hillsdale College on April 5, 2022, during a two-week teaching residency at Hillsdale as a Pulliam Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Journalism.

Why do I say that we need to lay siege to our institutions? Because of what has happened to our institutions since the 1960s.

The 1960s saw the rise of new and radical ideologies in America that now seem commonplace—ideologies based on ideas like identity politics and cultural revolution. There is a direct line between those ideas born in the ’60s and the public policies being adopted today in leftist-run cities like Seattle, San Francisco, and Chicago.

The leftist dream of a working-class rebellion in America fizzled after the ’60s. By the mid-1970s, radical groups like the Black Liberation Army and the Weather Underground had faded from prominence. But the leftist dreamers didn’t give up. Abandoning hope of a Russian-style revolution, they settled on a more sophisticated strategy—waging a revolution not of the proletariat, but of the elites, and specifically of the knowledge elites. It would proceed not by taking over the means of production, but by taking control of education and culture—a strategy that German Marxist Rudi Dutschke, a student activist in the 1960s, called “the long march through the institutions.”

This idea is traceable to Italian communist Antonio Gramsci, who wrote in the 1930s of “capturing the culture via infiltration of schools, universities, churches, and the media by transforming the consciousness of society.”

This march through our institutions, begun a half-century ago, has now proved largely successful. Over the past two years, I’ve looked at the federal bureaucracy, the universities, K-12 schools, and big corporations. And what I’ve found is that the revolutionary ideas of the ’60s have been repackaged, repurposed, and injected into American life at the institutional level.

Most Americans are shocked to discover this. We’ve all seen the outrage of parents over the past two years as they learned that their young children were being divided according to their skin color and deemed oppressed or oppressors in public school classrooms. Parents began expressing their outrage against critical race theory not only in school board meetings, but at the polls. This made big news in last year’s gubernatorial election in Virginia, and the demographic of the now-widespread voter rebellion shows that it crosses party lines.

The Case of the Disney Company

There has been a similar response following the more recent revelations about the Walt Disney Company—a company founded 99 years ago and associated in the public mind with wholesome family entertainment.

I’ve been reporting on Disney for more than a year, and I have good sources inside the company. I broke a story last year about Disney forcing employees to engage in a critical race theory training program that denounced America as fundamentally racist, had its white employees complete a “white privilege checklist,” and included exercises on “decolonizing” bookshelves.

Disney’s first reaction was to deflect. In response to accusations of racism, the company issued a press release denying the charge. Incredibly, it offered as proof the fact that it had produced the movie Black Panther—a kind of corporate variation on “I’m not racist, some of my best friends are black.” This ridiculous response suggests that Disney executives were caught totally off guard. The elites who run our institutions, after all, are not accustomed to being challenged.

Disney eventually deleted information on the controversial training program from its internal website. But all things remaining the same, the program will resurface. This wasn’t, after all, a case of well-intentioned people making a mistake. Leftist ideologies are now baked into the structures of these institutions.

A much bigger controversy began when the Disney Company waded into a political fight with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. DeSantis had signed a bill, passed by the state legislature, that prohibited teaching about gender ideology, sexual orientation, and sexuality in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade classrooms. Despite the fact that its opponents gave this bill an intentionally misleading name—the “Don’t Say Gay” bill—it is supported, depending on the questions used by pollsters, by between 60 and 80 percent of Floridians.

Acting against its own apparent business interest, Disney—the most famous children’s entertainment corporation in history—came out publicly in opposition to this bill banning discussions of gender identity in elementary classrooms prior to the fourth grade. In an official statement, it declared that the company’s goal was “for this law to be repealed . . . or struck down in the courts.”

Shortly thereafter, my sources at Disney leaked a video to me of an hour-and-40-minute company-wide meeting about the controversy. And what did the video reveal? In a series of unedited clips that I released on social media, an executive producer at Disney said that she had been inserting what she called a “not-so-secret gay agenda” into children’s programming, targeting kids as young as two years old, and had experienced no pushback. A production coordinator said that he had created a tracking program to make sure that the company was including enough transgender, non-binary, and asexual characters. The president of Disney’s general entertainment content referenced a Disney initiative declaring that “50 percent of regular and recurring characters across Disney General Entertainment will come from underrepresented groups.” And a diversity and inclusion manager talked about the company’s new policy of doing away with the terms “ladies and gentlemen” and “boys and girls” at Disney theme parks.

These discussions weren’t taking place in an Ivy League faculty lounge, but among high-level executives at Walt Disney. Americans were shocked, and rightfully so. The unmistakable gist of the video was that Disney was secretly trying to change, in a fundamental way, how children think about sexuality by engineering a narrative based on gender ideology.

Disney executives had marched into this controversy beating their chests, talking trash to Governor DeSantis, and committing the company to the overthrow of the bill protecting young children. But the leaked videos quickly generated over 100 million media impressions, and with public opinion heavily on the other side—not only in Florida, but nationwide—Disney was pummeled. People started canceling their subscriptions to Disney’s streaming service, canceling planned trips to Disney theme parks, canceling Disney cruises, and thinking twice about letting their children watch Disney movies.

Elected officials noticed, too. The Florida legislature and Governor DeSantis have already revoked the special governance and tax status Disney has enjoyed since the 1960s. Disney’s stock value plummeted nearly $50 billion in less than two months. And now Members of Congress are asking why Disney deserves automatic copyright extensions on things like Mickey Mouse—copyrights that customarily have a 28-year limit. If Congress lets Disney’s various copyrights expire next year, it will cost Disney additional multiple billions of dollars.

Doing further research into Disney’s track record regarding children and sexual predators, by the way, I discovered that the company has a notorious pattern, going back over a decade, of having a significant number of its employees arrested for child sex crimes such as child pornography, child exploitation, and child rape. And although a company can’t be held responsible for everything its employees do on their own time, I was able to find two cases of Disney complicity. In the first, Disney authorities allegedly told a Disney security guard to keep her mouth shut when she discovered that a Disney employee was molesting a young boy on a Disney cruise ship. This allowed the employee to evade arrest, after which Disney flew him back home to India so he couldn’t be held accountable. In the other case, I found that the cruise trade association of which Disney is a member had opposed and then helped water down legislation that would have required Disney and other cruise lines to report sexual abuse on their cruise ships in a timely manner.

In summary, Disney’s record on the issue of children and sexuality casts doubt on its claim to moral authority.

The lesson I’ve drawn from reporting on institutions that promote ideologies such as critical race theory and radical gender theory is that they have been captured at the structural level and can’t be reformed from within. So the solution is not a long counter-march through the institutions. You can’t replace bad directors of diversity, equity, and inclusion with good ones. The ideology is baked in. That’s why I call for a siege strategy.

This means, first, that you have to be aggressive. You have to fight on terms that you define. In responding to opponents of the Florida bill, for instance, don’t argue against “teaching diversity and inclusion,” but against sexualizing young children. And don’t pull your punches. We will never win if we play by the rules set by the elites who are undermining our country. We can be polite and lose every battle or we can be impolite and actually deliver results for the great majority of Americans who are fighting for their small businesses, fighting for their jobs, fighting for their families.

Second, you have to mobilize popular support. This requires ripping the veil off of what our institutions are doing through real investigation and reporting so that Americans can make informed choices. We live in an information society, and if we don’t get the truth out, we will never gain traction against the narratives being constantly refashioned and pushed by the Left.

Less than two years ago, an infinitesimal number of Americans knew about critical race theory. Through investigation and reporting, we’ve brought that number up to 75 percent. The public now opposes critical race theory by a two-to-one margin, and it is being hounded out of schools and other places. This kind of action is a model for dealing with every ideology and institution that is undermining the public good and America’s future.

Remember that institutions don’t choose these ideologies democratically—they don’t ask people or employees to vote for them. They impose them by fiat, through bureaucratic, not democratic rule. So it isn’t surprising that the institutions lose big when we force their agendas into the political arena. What politician or campaign manager in their right mind would ignore an issue that is supported by a two-to-one margin? So-called conservative politicians who do ignore such issues—or who oppose bringing them up out of a false sense of decorum—aren’t on the people’s and the country’s side.

With public institutions like K-12 education, another crucial step is to decentralize them. It is centralization and bureaucratization that makes it possible for a minority of activists to take control and impose their ideologies. Decentralizing means reducing federal and state controls in favor of local control—and it ultimately means something like universal school choice, placing power in parents’ hands. Too many parents today have no escape mechanism from substandard schools controlled by leftist ideologues. Universal school choice—meaning that public education funding goes directly to parents rather than schools—would fix that.

Conservatives have for too long been resistant to attacking the credibility of our institutions. Trust in institutions is a natural conservative tendency. But conservatives need to stop focusing on abstract concepts and open their eyes. Our institutions are dragging our country in a disastrous direction, actively undermining all that makes America great.

To some extent, the institutions are now destroying their own credibility. Look at the public health bureaucracy and teachers’ unions, which acted in concert to shut down schools and keep children needlessly masked—and for far too long. As a result, there has been an explosion in homeschooling, as well as in the number of alternative K-12 schools such as the ones Hillsdale College is helping to launch around the country. What is needed is to build alternative or parallel institutions and businesses in all areas. There is no reason, for example, why plenty of high production value children’s entertainment can’t be produced outside the ideological confines of the Walt Disney Company.

In conclusion, we make a mistake in thinking about politics simply in terms of a Left versus Right dynamic. That dynamic is significant, but where the opportunity really lies today is focusing on a top versus bottom dynamic. An elite class, representing a small number of people with influence in the knowledge-based institutions, are acting in their own interest and against the interest of the vast majority of the American people—those who are still attached to the idea that America is a force for good and who think, to take just one example, that young children should be protected from the imposition of radical gender ideology.

In terms of the top versus bottom dynamic, the choice today is between the American Revolution of 1776 and the leftist revolution of the 1960s. The first offers a continued unfolding of America’s founding principles of freedom and equality. The second ends up in nihilism and demoralization, just as the Weather Underground ended up in a bombed-out basement in Greenwich Village in the 1970s.

Even those of us who are temperamentally predisposed to defense must recognize that offense—laying siege to the institutions—is what is now demanded.

Election Fraud Scheme Uncovered In Virginia, County Supervisor Indicted on 82 Counts

BUCHANAN COUNTY, VA – A Democrat Virginia Board of Supervisors member was reportedly charged with 82 felony counts relating to election voter fraud, along with one alleged accomplice being charged with 12 felonies of a similar nature.

On May 9th, Russell County Commonwealth’s Attorney Zach Stoots announced that Knox District Supervisor Trey Adkins and his alleged accomplice Sherry Lynn Bailey were collectively hit with 94 various felonies revolving around alleged election and voter fraud.

Adkins was reportedly charged with 34 counts of false statement election fraud, 11 counts of absentee voting procedure violations, eight counts of public embezzlement, 11 counts of forgery of a public record, 15 counts of uttering public record, and 3 counts of conspiracy to make a false statement election fraud.

Bailey, who is apparently Adkins’ aunt, was charged in connection with the same scheme as well, with her being indicted on four counts of false statement election fraud, four counts of conspiracy to make a false statement, and four counts of forgery of public record.

Commonwealth Attorney Stoots didn’t reveal any specifics regarding the case in a released statement, noting that ethics codes forbid his office from going into case specifics prior to a potential trial.

“The Rules of Professional Conduct prevents any lawyer participating in the prosecution of a criminal matter that may be tried to a jury from making an extrajudicial statement that the lawyer knows or should know will have a likelihood of interfering with the fairness of a trial by jury. Based on the Rules of Professional Conduct, my office will not be making any further statements on the pending matters.”

Virginia State Police have been investigating Adkins for approximately two years prior to the charges getting handed down, with the National File reporting that the grand jury’s report detailed “an illegal absentee vote harvesting scheme” that Adkins had been partaking in since first coming into office in 2011 and “repeating the process in his 2015 and 2019 bids for re-election.”

In this scheme, Adkins would allegedly show up at the homes of prospective voters with absentee applications and ballots in tow to help ensure that he secured their vote.

The only reason we began to discuss Islam was jihad, and the one thing that Disney/Marvel have completely kept out of their Muslim superhero comic book is jihad, which debuted in 2013. And since Disney/Marvel will be releasing a live-action series featuring their Muslim superhero, Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan, this month, it’s time, once again, to call out these enemy propagandists in wartime. And keep in mind that there was a time when our enemies paid off sellouts in America to promote enemy propaganda, but now we’re so corrupt that companies do it on their own, without any possibility of reciprocation on the other side. While Disney/Marvel and Warner Brothers/DC Comics/Discovery promote their Muslim superheroes, there are no such American superhero counterparts in Islamic dictatorships.

I was born to Muslim parents in the Bronx, New York, and I was raised Muslim. We ended up moving to New Jersey, which is where Marvel’s Muslim superhero lives with her family from Pakistan. Growing up, while my family would have been considered “moderate Muslims,” there was nothing moderate about the Jew-hatred in my Muslim family, or of the contempt shown towards females. Some members of my family even idolized Hitler, because he killed more Jews than anyone. And yet this casual hatred of others, of almost all others outside of the home, even by what are referred to as “moderate Muslims,” doesn’t appear at all in Disney/Marvel’s Muslim superhero comic book, which makes it nothing short of enemy propaganda for a foreign enemy, produced by a domestic enemy.

I was raised to hate Jews and to treat females like crap in America, and all you read from Disney/Marvel’s Muslim superhero is how good and innocent and morally upright she and her family are. We all know that Disney/Marvel produce fantasy, but once they delve into the real world of Islam and Muslims, and leave out any whiff of shariah law and the never-ending jihad, they have made themselves enemy propagandists, and callous ones at that, as they have to work very hard to try and avoid the fact that hundreds of people are murdered in the name of Islam every single week.

I also find it telling that Disney/Marvel chose to have a young female to be its Muslim superhero, considering Islam’s misogyny, as well as its male supremacy. Growing up Muslim, I remember my mother mourning the birth of my nieces, because she believed, with great reason, that their lifetime mistreatment at the hands of male Muslims was inevitable. I can’t think of any Muslim females in my generation who weren’t beaten by their male relatives. And, of course, nothing like that is in Ms. Marvel’s stories. And the only solace I can take in Disney/Marvel’s Islamic propaganda superhero is that even the most dishonest leftist hack reviewers can only pretend to like it, as it might be their least popular character, no matter what these reviewers claim. In a country of 330 million people, the best a Muslim superhero comic book produced by Disney and Marvel Comics, with all of their promotional power, has been able to sell is 12,000 copies a month, and only for a little while.

In other words, even the not exactly self-aware propagandists behind it know that it’s pure propaganda, but dare not cancel it, out of fear of what a potential Muslim backlash could be. (Disney/Marvel have no such concern cancelling unpopular black/female/gay superhero comics.) The leftists behind Disney/Marvel first published the comic book out of fear that not doing so might anger their Muslim editor who pitched it, as well as other Muslims, (as they know that angry Muslims act on their anger more than others). They continue publishing it out of fear. In the end, what we have here is enemy propaganda produced by a domestic enemy for a foreign enemy, free of charge, and all in the name of not angering Muslims. What a disgusting, gutless motive behind publishing a comic book, and to continue publishing it, and now, to produce a live-action version of it, that even those who claim to be fans of it aren’t excited about.

And I repeat, again and again: the only reason we began to discuss Islam was jihad. So long-form stories about Muslims that completely avoid jihad are pure Islamic propaganda, whether done by Muslims or their useful idiots.

EXCLUSIVE: No, Jen Psaki, Trump Didn’t Start The DHS ‘Truth Ministry.’ That’s Literal Disinformation

White House press secretary Jen Psaki has spread disinformation repeatedly from the podium while speaking about the Disinformation Governance Board, claiming its “work” was present under the Trump administration.

Psaki’s go-to defense of the establishment of the board under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a continuation “of disinformation-related work that began under the prior administration.” One of the key bodies countering disinformation founded under former President Donald Trump, the Countering Foreign Influence Task Force (CFITF), was renamed by the Biden administration when he came into office the Mis-, Dis-, and Malinformation (MDM) and was modified to focus on domestic rather than foreign threats, two Trump DHS officials told the Daily Caller.

“The CFITF was focused on foreign influence – particularly as it related to elections. The current MDM description from DHS takes the word ‘foreign’ out of the title. It’s clear that MDM, as it’s currently defined, is also looking at domestic communication,” Chad Wolf, former acting secretary of the DHS, told the Daily Caller.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), was created in 2018 under Trump to counter cybersecurity threats. In May of 2018, “a Countering Foreign Influence Task Force (CFITF) was established within CISA’s predecessor agency,” according to CISA’s website, and was tasked with “helping the American people understand the risks from” MDM.

CFITF was modified by the Biden administration in 2021 to officially change its name to MDM, and its “mission evolved to reflect the changing information environment,” according to its website.

The Biden-era DHS, its assistant press secretary and the CFITF did not respond to several requests from the Daily Caller to say why the name change was necessary, and what the new “mission” of the MDM is.

The MDM is now “charged with building national resilience to MDM and foreign influence activities,” the website reads. It also mentions that MDM campaigns are waged by both “foreign and domestic threat actors.”

A “Disinformation Stops With You” resource listed on the website states disinformation can be spread by “foreign states, scammers and extremist groups.” An election MDM resource states “Russian, Chinese, and Iranian state-sponsored elements, as well as domestic extremist groups,” are the primary culprits of spreading MDM.

President Joe Biden stated May 4 the “MAGA crowd is really the most extreme political organization that’s existed in American history, in recent American history.”

“When it comes to disinformation, it’s clear that DHS, under President Biden, is making this a core responsibility – to include in the domestic context. They are also politicizing the issue as they have established a Disinformation Governance Board in the Secretary’s office. They have taken control of combating foreign influence away from operating components, where decisions were largely made from career civil servants, and moved that power to the Secretary’s office. On top of that, they have appointed a highly controversial and partisan individual to head that board” Nina Jankowicz, Wolf continued.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the Disinformation Governance Board, which he first mentioned April 27 in a Senate hearing, wants to “develop guidelines, standards, guardrails to ensure that the work that has been ongoing for nearly 10 years does not infringe on people’s free speech rights, rights of privacy, civil rights and civil liberties.” He echoed Psaki in saying that the “work” was being done under Trump, and claimed that the board will focus on foreign surveillance, not domestic.

A DHS spokesperson told the Daily Caller “the Disinformation Governance Board is an internal working group that was established with the explicit goal of ensuring … Americans’ freedom of speech, civil rights, civil liberties, and privacy,” noting that the group has no “operational authority or capability” and that Psaki has said the DHS has worked to address disinformation “for years and throughout multiple administrations.”

Acting Deputy Chief of Staff for the DHS under Trump, Lora Ries, told the Daily Caller that the Biden administration’s DHS focuses on “content” rather than harmful “foreign adversaries,” and that Trump would have never started a Disinformation Governance Board.

Former Deputy DHS Secretary Ken Cuccinelli told the Daily Caller that the board “is an entirely new creation of their own making,” called it the “Ministry of Truth,” and said there is “no way” the Democrats will operate the board “well.” “It is one of the most philosophically alarming things produced by this administration,” he added.

“The Biden Administration has changed the focus from foreign adversaries seeking to harm American cybersecurity and infrastructure to focus on content. This paved the way for this Disinformation Governance Board that will surely be weaponized against Americans. The government should not be the arbiter of truth or ‘misinformation.’ We Americans have learned the hard way that ‘misinformation’ is often just information the left doesn’t like,” Ries said.

“Instead of focusing on foreign terror threats and securing the homeland, particularly the border to prevent such threats from entering the U.S., the Biden Administration appears more interested in using the national security state to target concerned parents at school board meetings and Americans rightly skeptical about government’s own coronavirus disinformation. This administration prioritizes the wrong things. Secretary Mayorkas, like the Biden Administration, has turned inward – away from foreign threats and against Americans, in particular political opponents, who they label as ‘extremists,’” she concluded.

The newly appointed leader of the Disinformation Governance Board, Jankowicz, who will be in charge of determining what disinformation is, has been criticized for spreading disinformation about Hunter Biden’s laptop. She also supported the Steele Dossier, which Daniel Hoffman, a former CIA officer, said was possibly “part of a Russian espionage disinformation plot.”

Mayorkas and Psaki have defended Jankowicz, calling her an “expert” in disinformation.

Republican senators have questioned Mayorkas, exposing that he did not know about Jankowicz’s TikTok videos, nor about her Hunter Biden claims before she was appointed.

Wolf concluded by calling on the DHS “to provide the American people transparency as to what the Board is and was planning to do, and why the Department chose to put on an overtly partisan individual in charge who could easily be accused of spreading disinformation herself prior to her government service.”

Biden’s Secretary of Commerce: American children ‘having clothes comes second to the existential threat of climate change’

We have lived through a period that went from mankind cannot control the weather to environmental alarmists first warning about global cooling, then global warming and now the “existential threat” of climate change.

Now we learn from Biden’s Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo that American children having clothes comes second to dealing with the “existential threat” of climate change. Watch and listen:

When the climate cools during the winter children need coats, scarves and other clothes to keep them warm and protect them from the elements. When the climate warms in the summer children need clothes to keep them cool and protect them from sunburn and overheating.

Logic right? Wrong. The climate myth trumps logic.

On February 17th, 2021 USA Today’s Kerry Breen reported:

A winter storm that pummeled the state has set record-low temperatures in cities like San Antonio, Dallas and Corpus Christi, with some areas of the state seeing single-digit and below-zero temperatures. According to NBC News, the unprecedented cold put too much strain on the state’s electrical system, meaning that more than 3 million residents of the state are dealing with rolling power outages or total blackouts.

NBC News also reported that at least 25 people have died in “weather-related fatalities” since the weekend, with the “majority” of the deaths happening in Texas.

In an ABC News report published on Aug 23, 2021 titled “Don’t Waste Your Money: Clothing Shortage” John Matarese reported:

Shoppers are ready to restock their closets for the fall and winter. But many are asking, where’s all the clothing?

Kristin Sterling was trying to do some back-to-school shopping at TJ Maxx. “I’ve been looking for baby items, as well as for a teen, a school-age child,” Sterling said. But inside, she found a much smaller selection than she has seen before. “I’m finding that there’s not that much clothing,” Sterling said.

Shoppers across the country are finding half-empty clothing racks, and shoe shelves out of popular sizes at many stores. At a Burlington store, a third of the store is now closed off with a divider. High school sophomore Mia Dressel was looking for a homecoming dress with her grandmother, but… “All the dresses were really, really short, or really long,” Dressel said.

In a December 2nd, 2021 Forbes article titled “Inflation is coming for your closet—the cost of clothing to jump next year, new report shows” Sophie Mellor reported:

Owing to supply-chain snarls, two-thirds of fashion executives said they are expecting to increase prices in 2022, with an average price increase of 3% across all clothing and apparel, this year’s State of Fashion 2022 report by the Business of Fashion and McKinsey & Co. found.

A worrying 15% of executives polled said they planned on increasing prices by more than 10% in 2022.

Inflation in fashion is caused by a combination of material shortages, transportation bottlenecks, and rising shipping costs straining supply and demand, according to the study, which surveyed more than 220 international fashion executives and experts.

All of these things are happening now but worse. Biden’s build back better for Americans nothings built, nothings back and nothings better.

The Bottom Line

America depends on cheap and reliable power. America depends on its supply chain to deliver goods and services. America depends on our economy to provide what we need to live healthy and prosperous lives. That is now all at risk.

Biden’s green policies of eliminating fossil fuels and replacing oil, coal and natural power plants with solar and wind generators to stop the “existential threat” of climate change is destroying foundation of the economy.

From climate change to lockdown mandates we are seeing the long term impact on everything we Americans have come to depend on. Going to the supermarket or store or online and buying what we need and want is gradually going away. It’s becoming more and more common to see shortages and higher prices for essentials.

Biden’s policies are the root cause our supply chain to being disrupted.

3PL Central in its 2022 State of the Third-Party Logistics Industry Report warned:

Disruptions to the supply chain aren’t over yet. It is predicted that supply chain issues facing the United States will continue into 2022—citing demand as one of the top contributors. The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, which account for 40% of shipping containers entering the U.S., have already started operating 24/7 to relieve supply chain bottlenecks. But with labor shortages in both warehousing and transportation, are consumers looking at something similar—or more disruptive than—the 2020 toilet paper shortage?

Biden and his administration have reset the priorities of America and Americans are now feeling the pinch. From Covid to Climate Change this administration has fundamentally transformed our economy from being robust, our supply chain from being dependable and our store shelves full to the polar opposite.

From baby formula, to clothing, to fuel prices to the cost of living Biden’s policies are NOT making America better, rather it is making America MUCH worse.

A watchdog group will file a complaint against Florida Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist on Friday accusing him of taking advantage of pandemic-instituted proxy voting to campaign for governor of Florida, according to a document obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) will send a letter to the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) accusing Crist, who reportedly voted by proxy 107 times between Jan. 7 and April 7 according to the Tampa Bay Times, of abusing the House’s COVID-19 policy to avoid spending time in Washington while he campaigns in Florida for governor. The letter asks OCE to open an investigation into Crist.

“It is evident that the true reason he is voting by proxy and virtually attending committee hearings is unrelated to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the complaint alleges. “Rather, the reason is so he can campaign for governor.”

The complaint cites Crist allegedly attending campaign events while voting by proxy and include screenshots of social media posts allegedly showing him on the trail on the dates he was absent from Congress.

“We want them to do an investigation, which even in the most straightforward cases, it requires them to compile evidence, get a response and make a decision,” Kendra Arnold, executive director for FACT, told TheDCNF. “Ultimately, we hope that this is referred on to the Ethics Committee and that they impose the appropriate punishment.”

Many members of Congress have taken advantage of the pandemic policy, with about 80% of all House members using it to vote remotely by mid-December, according to the Brookings Institution. Arnold said that while FACT, a conservative organization, is considering taking action against other politicians, Crist’s actions were “especially egregious” because his spokesperson acknowledged he was campaigning.

“The Congressman has two important missions: representing Florida’s 13th District in Congress and giving Floridians, exhausted by Ron DeSantis’ never ending culture wars, a clear choice in November,” Crist’s spokesperson, Chloe Kessock, told The Tampa Bay Times in April.

Crist’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

19th century German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck was very explicit about why he created the modern welfare state – to buy votes.  Joe Biden is channeling Bismarck and attempting to do the same, as we can see from an executive order Biden issued in March.

The order directs government benefits agencies to submit plans to promote voter registration and turnout to help Democrats. 

If the Biden administration didn’t believe this would overwhelmingly benefit Democrats, they wouldn’t be doing it, would they?  This is the new Zuckerbucks – a thinly disguised Get Out the Vote effort for Democrats – except it will be done with government agencies and money instead of private funds.  Call them ‘Bidenbucks’.

The order lines up with the recommendations of the far-Left activist group Demos.  Two people from Demos are now in the White House.

The Biden administration won’t reveal the details of the agencies’ voter registration plans.  What’s that about?  What are they hiding?  What don’t they want people to know about what they’re up to?  Activist groups are using the Freedom of Information Act to attempt to find out.

This is what we know so far:

The order instructs agencies to use all means at their disposal to “engage with the public … about how to register to vote, how to request a vote-by-mail ballot, and how to cast a ballot in upcoming elections….”  HUD will conduct voter registration drives at public housing projects.  HHS will launch a new voting access hub.  The Agriculture Department will be looking for new voters in the food stamp program.  Jailers will fish for new votes in federal prisons.  The order pushes vote by mail which the bipartisan Carter-Baker Commission noted 17 years ago is notoriously insecure.  The order allows agencies to enlist the aid of outside third-party organizations, which you can take to mean Democrat activist groups working to boost Democrat turnout in key areas, just like what happened with Zuckerbucks in the 2020 election.  Zuckerbucks, overwhelmingly, went to Democrat strongholds.  In addition, the order pushes agencies to get their own employees out to vote – reliably Democrat – and to volunteer to work on elections – again, to help Democrats.

Since when is voter registration and turnout the business of the federal government?  You can’t find boosting voter registration and turnout in agency mission statements.

On top of all this, Joe Biden’s budget proposal is asking for 15 billion more Bidenbucks to assist local election officials and goose the U.S. Postal Service to better accommodate voting-by-mail.  This is Zuckerbucks all over again, except with government grants and 30 times as much money.

Some Republicans are trying to figure out how to fight all this.  Nine House Republicans sent a letter to the White House demanding answers about the executive order’s constitutionality and statutory authority.  Defunding the executive order if Republicans take back Congress and various legal theories are also under consideration.

So imagine if every person who receives food stamps, housing, Medicaid, and other government benefits registers to vote.  Everyone has a right to vote, that’s not the issue.  The federal government should not be putting its thumb on the scale in favor of one political party at the expense of all others.  More importantly, as has been observed since ancient times, democracy ends when people discover they can vote themselves the Treasury – more votes leading to more government benefits to buy more votes in an endless cycle until the current system is destroyed.  Joe Biden, and Bismarck before him, may not have realized this before issuing the executive order and ginning up the welfare state, but it’s that old saying, ‘It’s OK to be piggy, but hogs go to slaughter.’

We have been noticing that Biden and his administration are working to label members of the make America great again (MAGA) movement. Hillary tried that calling the MAGA movement members “deplorables”, which only allowed the movement to solidify, grow and defeat her bid to be president.

Now we have Biden labeling MAGA as an extremist group and Donald J. Trump as the great MAGA king.  Of course the efforts of Hillary and Joe are what is called malinformation or malicious information. Malinformation is “having or showing a desire to cause harm to someone; given to, marked by, or arising from malice or malicious gossip.”

It’s all gossip, a myth, not fact.

It also is disinformation which is “a subset of propaganda and is defined as false information that is spread deliberately to deceive people.”

Trump Media and Technology Group CEO Devin Nunes joined Greg Kelly on Newsmax to discuss the latest about Truth Social and Biden’s MAGA King comment. Watch:

This effort, which only incites Americans who are concerned about inflation, stagflation, the rising costs for food, goods, services and the economy don’t care. What the American people are concerned about is the economy, stupid.

As Daily Wire, on May 6th, 2022 pointed out:

Americans are leaving retirement due to inflation and a tight job market, according to data released last month by job platform Indeed.

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics data, the number of retired seniors surged from 28.3 million in February 2020 to 31.6 million in October 2021, however, higher price levels and other economic challenges are now forcing Americans into “unretirement.”

Now Biden’s policies are causing unretirement. But it gets even worse. Watch this video from CNN:

Americans blame Biden for their economic struggles.

  • 66% of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy.
  • 64% disapprove of Biden’s handling of helping the middle class.
  • 81% of Americans feel the government is doing too little to reduce inflation.

Again, as Bill Clinton said, “It’s the economy stupid.”

Name calling doesn’t put food on the table, gasoline in cars or baby formula on store shelves. But Biden’s Build Back Better has taken away things that the American people care about most — Their Economic Well Being.

As Jason A Brown wrote,

Whatever you think of Trump, good or bad, the one thing that you can say about the 45th President is that he was pragmatic when it came to solving a problem. He did not make political calculations to determine what direction he would go.  That’s why he frequently upset people on in both parties.  He wasn’t trying to appease anyone, and was always looking for the most practical, efficient solution.  Most politicians are not capable of this.  That is what set Trump apart and that’s why there was bipartisan hate for him.

So, call Trump and the 79 million Americans that voted for him and the make America great again movement what you want. It is not and will not change people’s minds because they are struggling to make ends meet.

Their anger and frustration will be exacted upon Biden, his administration and the Democrat Party on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022.

Mark my words, its the economy, stupid.

FLORIDA: Sarasota County School Administration Answers Ours Questions — Sort of. Read on…

We recently asked the Superintendent of the Sarasota County Public Schools a series of questions about teachers lying to their students and using their classrooms to push a political agenda. We wanted to find out if the district ever took action against a teacher for violating either of these two key points: 1. lying to students and 2. pushing a particular political agenda(s) in their classrooms.

We noted that the Sarasota County Schools Employee Handbook states,

Employees shall refrain from participation in partisan politics on school property during the hours school is in session.

The Sarasota County Schools Employee Handbook also states,

Political literature shall not be distributed in schools or on school property.

We received answers to our questions from Assistant Superintendent Jody Dumas (see the answers below with references).

What we learned from Assistant Superintendent Dumas’ answers are the following:

  1. Florida’s Principles on Professional Conduct in Education require that educators must teach in “the pursuit of truth.”
  2. Florida’s Principles on Professional Conduct in Education require that teacher to “nurture of democratic citizenship.”
  3. That educators: “Shall not intentionally suppress or distort subject matter relevant to a student’s academic program.”
  4. That educators: “Shall maintain honesty in all professional dealings.”
  5. That educators: “Shall not intentionally distort or misrepresent facts concerning an educational matter in direct or indirect public expression.”
  6. That the primary objective of the school’s educational media center is: “to implement, enrich, and support the educational program of the school and the representation of different points of view.”
  7. That school media specialists: “the media center which places principle above personal opinion and reason above prejudice in the selection of materials of the highest quality…Materials that will stimulate growth in factual knowledge…Materials shall be considered based on the accuracy of the content.”
  8. That: “Each district school board must adopt a policy regarding an objection by a parent or a resident of the county to the use of a specific instructional material, which clearly describes a process to handle all objections and provides for resolution…must provide the parent or resident the opportunity to proffer evidence to the district school board.”
  9. And: “If the district school board finds that an instructional material does not meet the criteria under sub-subparagraph a. or that any other material contains prohibited content under sub-subparagraph b., the school district shall discontinue use of the material for any grade level or age group for which such use is inappropriate or unsuitable.”
  10. On the issue of responsibility for after school clubs/organizations we learned: “All clubs and organizations must be approved by the principle…Qualifications for membership shall be clearly stated in the club/organization by laws approved by the principal.”
  11. ZERO teachers, librarians or other school level staff have been fired or suspended for any of the above in the past 5 years lying to students or using, distributing or sharing political information in the classroom or media centers.

Given all of the above you would think that the Sarasota County School Board, the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, principles, district staff, teachers and media specialists are all squeaky clean but you would be wrong.

As they say is only takes one bad apple to spoil the whole barrel or in this case the Sarasota County School District.

We have come into possession of some disturbing people that the students at Pine View School a school for the gifted and rated as #6 Magnet school in America, have been exposed to via a program named PINC. In a December 20th, 2018 edition of the Pine View Student newspaper titled “The Torch” we found that this school hosted a man named Christiaan Triebert who works for the New York Times. Accoriding to Christiaan Triebert’s bio:

Christiaan Triebert is a journalist on the Visual Investigations team, which combines traditional reporting with open source methods to break news and hold the powerful to account.

[ … ]

He co-produced “Day of Rage,” one of the most complete pictures to date of what happened during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, and why.

So in December of 2019 the #6 Magnate School in the nation, Pine View, hosted a misinformation specialist. According to the answers we received from Assistant Superintendent Jody Dumas this event and all other PINC events had to have been approved by Dr. Stephen Covert, Pine Views’ Principal.

BTW, Triebert is also a contributor to Bellingcat which did a video titled “White Boy Summer, Nazi Memes and the Mainstreaming of White Supremacist Violence.” Hmmmmm.

But it doesn’t end there. In the same newsletter there was an article titled “The Torch analyzes vaping and its growing popularity” by Ben Gordon, Sci & Tech Editor. Really an article in a school newspaper on vaping?

Ben wrote:

Vaping has become so mainstream among teenagers and young adults in the United States that it was labeled an epidemic as of September 2018.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, roughly 2 million teenagers have said they have vaped or juuled at some point in their life.

What differentiates e-cigarettes from normal cigarettes is that while e-cigarettes heat liquid, they do not burn anything like cigarettes

or cigars. This means users are not exposed to the carbon monoxide and other toxins found in conventional cigarettes.

So what are the benefits of e-cigarettes? Some users explain that they can help you curb cigarette addiction. But, with e-cigarettes being somewhat new technology, it would be incorrect to assume that the benefits outweigh the risks without proper research supporting that claim.

Although e-cigarettes may help current smokers quit using tobacco, they also cause younger people to begin smoking and spark a nicotine addiction. Viewing the new technology as a way to sustain their business, big tobacco is investing in advertisement towards young people. This effectively causes a new epidemic of addictions to nicotine, and should be avoided at whatever costs necessary.

Sounds like Ben and Pine View are all into promoting vaping or julling doesn’t it?

Finally The Torch published an article titled “Go Green goes the extra degree with environmental outreach efforts on campus” by by Tricia Saputera, News Editor. Tricia wrote:

Pine View’s environmental club, Go Green, has recently taken strides to expand their club and to educate fellow students on the

simple ways they can help the environment. Within the past two months, they have conducted a cleanup, taught elementary

students and invited guest speakers to further education efforts.

The club additionally invited three members of the Florida Conservation Corps as guest speakers Dec. 10 to speak to the club. With a mission “to develop natural and cultural resource leaders by connecting them to areas of critical need in conservation, preservation, interpretation and resource based recreation,” as stated on their website, the Florida Conservation Corps discussed the harmful effects of invasive species.

The 24-year-old Florida Conservation Corps (FLCC) AmeriCorps program is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Which is good. But when Pine View’s Environmental Club wants student to “Go Green” it sounds very much like the current administrations efforts to fully implement the Green New Deal.

We continue to be concerned that what happened in 2019 is happening today not only in Pine View but across the district. We have received another lead about a student questionnaire sent home that has politically motivated questions on it. We will publish another column with our findings.

Answer: Each employee has a reporting structure. Compliance with policy is an expectation of all employees and is monitored by their supervisor.

Question: What action is taken if these individuals don’t refrain?

Answer: See classified and instructional bargaining agreements posted on our website under Human Resources.  These contracts outline our discipline process when employees violate policy.

Question: What is the policy on teachers lying to their students?

Answer: There is not policy but teachers are guided by the code of professional conduct as defined by the State of Florida.

The Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida states,

(1) Florida educators shall be guided by the following ethical principles:

(a) The educator values the worth and dignity of every person, the pursuit of truth, devotion to excellence, acquisition of knowledge, and the nurture of democratic citizenship. Essential to the achievement of these standards are the freedom to learn and to teach and the guarantee of equal opportunity for all.

(a) Obligation to the student requires that the individual:

4. Shall not intentionally suppress or distort subject matter relevant to a student’s academic program.

8. Shall not exploit a relationship with a student for personal gain or advantage.

(c) Obligation to the profession of education requires that the individual:

1. Shall maintain honesty in all professional dealings.

2. Shall not intentionally distort or misrepresent facts concerning an educational matter in direct or indirect public expression.

Question: What is the policy on teachers teaching a political agenda in the classroom?

Answer: Teachers are required to stick to the curriculum and standards for the classes they are teaching as outlined by the Florida DOE.

Question: What is the policy on librarians and teachers obtaining recommending or using pornographic materials or age inappropriate material in libraries and the classroom?

Answer: School Board policy 4.22

EDUCATIONAL MEDIA MATERIALS SELECTION 4.22 states,

I. Objectives of Selection – The primary objective of the school’s educational media center is to implement, enrich, and support the educational program of the school.

The center shall provide a wide range of materials on all levels of difficulty, with diversity of appeal, and the representation of different points of view. The School Board asserts that the responsibility of the media center is to provide:

A. Materials that will enrich and support the curriculum, taking into consideration the varied interest, abilities, and maturity levels of the students served.

B. Materials that will stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic values, and ethical standards.

C. A background of information enabling students to make intelligent judgments in their daily life.

D. Materials representative of the many religious, ethnic, and cultural groups and their contributions to the American heritage.

E. A comprehensive collection appropriate for the users of the media center which places principle above personal opinion and reason above prejudice in the selection of materials of the highest quality.

F. Provide materials on opposing sides of controversial issues in order that young citizens may develop, under guidance, the practice of critical analysis of all media.

II. Criteria for Selection of Educational Materials

A. The standards to determine the propriety of the educational materials shall be pursuant to Florida Statutes.

B. First consideration shall be given to the needs of the individual school based on knowledge of the curriculum, of the existing collection, and of the needs of children and youth. Requests from users of the collection, i.e., administrators, faculty, parents, and students shall be given high priority.

C. Materials shall be considered based on the accuracy of the content, overall purpose, timeliness, importance of the subject matter, quality of the writing/production, readability and popular appeal, authoritativeness, comprehensiveness of material, reputation of the publisher/producer, reputation and significance of the author/artist/composer/producer, format and price.

CHAPTER 4.00 – CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

D. Gifts of media or money shall be accepted with the understanding that their use or disposition shall be determined by those persons having the responsibility for acquisitions, according to the same selection criteria and procedures as purchased materials.

III. Procedures for Selection

1. Reputable, unbiased, professionally prepared selection aids such as those published by the American Library Association and other reputable publishing companies generally accepted by the educational media profession.

2. Media staff, curriculum consultants, faculty, students, and community representatives.

3. Media committee appointed by the principal to serve in an advisory capacity in the selection of materials.

B. In specific areas, the media specialist shall follow these procedures.

1. Purchase multiple copies of outstanding and frequently used materials;

2. Replace periodically worn or missing basic items; and

3. Withdraw out-of-date or unnecessary items from the collection.

Florida Statute 1006.28 states,

1. Each district school board is responsible for the content of all instructional materials and any other materials used in a classroom, made available in a school library, or included on a reading list, whether adopted and purchased from the state-adopted instructional materials list, adopted and purchased through a district instructional materials program under s. 1006.283, or otherwise purchased or made available. Each district school board shall maintain on its website a current list of instructional materials, by grade level, purchased by the district.

2. Each district school board must adopt a policy regarding an objection by a parent or a resident of the county to the use of a specific instructional material, which clearly describes a process to handle all objections and provides for resolution. The process must provide the parent or resident the opportunity to proffer evidence to the district school board that:

a. An instructional material does not meet the criteria of s. 1006.31(2) or s. 1006.40(3)(d) if it was selected for use in a course or otherwise made available to students in the school district but was not subject to the public notice, review, comment, and hearing procedures under s. 1006.283(2)(b)8., 9., and 11.

b. Any material used in a classroom, made available in a school library, or included on a reading list contains content that is pornographic or prohibited under s. 847.012, is not suited to student needs and their ability to comprehend the material presented, or is inappropriate for the grade level and age group for which the material is used.

Question: Who specifically is responsible for policing the use of age inappropriate or pornographic materials in schools and libraries?

Florida Statute 1006.28 states,

If the district school board finds that an instructional material does not meet the criteria under sub-subparagraph a. or that any other material contains prohibited content under sub-subparagraph b., the school district shall discontinue use of the material for any grade level or age group for which such use is inappropriate or unsuitable.

3. Each district school board must establish a process by which the parent of a public school student or a resident of the county may contest the district school board’s adoption of a specific instructional material. The parent or resident must file a petition, on a form provided by the school board, within 30 calendar days after the adoption of the material by the school board. The school board must make the form available to the public and publish the form on the school district’s website. The form must be signed by the parent or resident, include the required contact information, and state the objection to the instructional material based on the criteria of s. 1006.31(2) or s. 1006.40(3)(d). Within 30 days after the 30-day period has expired, the school board must, for all petitions timely received, conduct at least one open public hearing before an unbiased and qualified hearing officer. The hearing officer may not be an employee or agent of the school district. The hearing is not subject to the provisions of chapter 120; however, the hearing must provide sufficient procedural protections to allow each petitioner an adequate and fair opportunity to be heard and present evidence to the hearing officer.

“Whoever…with the intent of influencing any judge…in the discharge of his duty, pickets or parades…in or near a building or residence occupied or used by such judge…shall be fined under this title or imprisoned.” – 18 US Code §1507

When Black Lives Matter race rioters burned cities and wounded thousands, Biden’s people and their media allies claimed that these were “mostly peaceful” protests.

A thug could be beheading a conservative and the media and the Biden administration would claim that the head was still mostly on. So their definition of peaceful can’t be trusted. And, there’s no such thing as a peaceful protest at a public official’s home. That’s harassment and intimidation meant to change a judicial ruling.

If conservatives were doing this to D.C. Federal judges who are engaging in blatantly partisan conduct the FBI would be called in and they’d be in jail.

But the Biden administration defends the intimidation of Supreme Court justices because it supports it.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Tuesday defended protests outside the suburban homes of conservative Supreme Court justices as “peaceful to date” — despite the fact that more of the potentially illegal rallies are planned Wednesday to pressure the judges to abandon a draft anti-abortion rights ruling.

“The president’s longstanding view has been that violent threats and intimidation of any kind have no place in political discourse. And we believe of course in peaceful protests,” Psaki said at her daily press briefing.

“So I know that there’s an outrage right now, I guess, about protests that have been peaceful to date,” Psaki later added. “And we certainly continue to encourage that outside of judges’ homes and that’s the president’s position.”

Would Psaki consider protests outside her home peaceful? I suspect she would not. But as we already know, there’s a double standard.

And the Left wants one set of rules.

Police officers in Michigan took custody of a voting machine as the state expands its investigation into what it’s described as possible unauthorized access to election equipment.

Michigan State Police and officials with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office seized an Irving Township voting tabulator on April 29, township supervisor Jamie Knight told The Epoch Times in an email.

The seizure was done pursuant to a search warrant, she said.

“The Township intends to fully cooperate with law enforcement, and the Township attorneys have been in contact with the Michigan State Police regarding this matter. The Township has no further comment at this time,” Knight added.

An investigation was launched earlier this year at the request of Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, who said her office received reports that an unnamed third party “was allowed to access vote tabulator components and technology in Roscommon County.”

“Michigan law is clear about the security threats that emerge when anyone gains unauthorized access to our election machines or technology, and I will have no tolerance for those who seek to illegally tamper with our voting equipment,” Benson, a Democrat, said at the time……

Gov. DeSantis Signs Law Requiring Schools To Teach ‘Evils Of Communism’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law Monday that recognizes a statewide “Victims of Communism Day” requiring Florida schools to teach students about “the evils of communism.”

The “Victims of Communism Day” bill, or House Bill (HB) 395, establishes November 7 as a holiday “to honor the hundreds of millions of people who have suffered under communist regimes across the world,” which public schools are required to observe, according to a press release.

“Honoring the people that have fallen victim to communist regimes and teaching our students about those atrocities is the best way to ensure that history does not repeat itself,” DeSantis said in a statement. “Through HB 395 and the funding announced today, we are guaranteeing that the history of those who fled communist regimes and their experiences are preserved and not forgotten by our students.”

“While it’s fashionable in some circles to whitewash the history of communism, Florida will stand for truth and remain as a beachhead for freedom,” he added.

Starting with the 2023-2024 school year, high school students taking the state-mandated U.S. government class must receive at least 45 minutes of instruction on the designated “Victims of Communism Day” covering topics “such as Mao Zedong and the Cultural Revolution, Joseph Stalin and the Soviet System, Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution, Vladimir Lenin and the Russian Revolution, Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, and Nicolás Maduro and the Chavismo movement,” according to the bill……..

The leftist group called Free Speech for People (LOL) sued the Georgia Secretary of State in state court to have United States Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene removed from the 2022 voter ballot.  The law suit alleges that Greene violated a constitutional clause, that was added after the U.S. Civil War of the 1860s, to prohibit politicians from running for Congress if they have engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” or “given aid or comfort” to the nation’s enemies.

Florida Family Association launched several email alerts starting on April 30, 2022 that asked people to send emails to urge Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger not to invalidate the candidacy of Marjorie Taylor Greene.

State Court Judge Charles Beaudrot ruled that  Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene can remain on the ballot.

How Government Created the Baby Formula Shortage—and a Black Market for ‘Unapproved’ European Imports

As Christina Szalinski reported in the New York Times, “baby formula is one of the most tightly regulated food products in the US.”

As many know, the US is confronting a shortage in baby formula that has grown quite serious. What started as complaints on Twitter of “out of stock” messages on Amazon purchases has turned into a national panic.

CBS News reports that at retailers across the country, some 40 percent of the top-selling baby formula products were out of stock as of late April, according to an analysis from Datasembly.

“This is a shocking number that you don’t see for other categories,” Ben Reich, CEO of Datasembly, told the news network.

The story got enough traction to finally get the attention of the White House.

On Monday, Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the government is doing its best to address the shortage, noting that manufacturers say they’re producing at full capacity following a product recall by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“Ensuring the availability is also a priority for the FDA and they’re working around the clock to address any possible shortage,” Psaki said.

Psaki is not wrong that the product recall has made the baby formula shortage worse.

As Eric Boehm pointed out at Reason, part of the shortage stems from a suspected bacterial outbreak at an Abbott plant in Michigan, which prompted the recall of three major brands of powdered formula. Matters were made worse when the plant was subsequently shut down for FDA inspection.

Still, one could be reasonably suspicious of the idea that a single contamination could upend the entire US baby formula market. And for good reason.

A closer look at US trade and regulatory policies reveals the government itself is primarily responsible for the baby formula shortage.

Few may realize it, but baby formula is one of the most regulated food products in America. That’s not me saying it, but the New York Times.

As Christina Szalinski reported in March 2021, “baby formula is one of the most tightly regulated food products in the US, with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) dictating the nutrients and vitamins, and setting strict rules about how formula is produced, packaged, and labeled.”

Despite these regulations—more likely, because of them—many American parents buy “unapproved” European formula even though, Szalinski notes, it’s technically against the law.

“There are large Facebook groups devoted to European formulas, where parents share spreadsheets and detailed notes on ingredients and how these formulas compare to their US counterparts,” she notes. “Some caregivers report choosing them because European brands offer certain formula options (like those made from goat’s milk or milk from pasture-raised cows), which are rare or nonexistent in an FDA-regulated form in the US. Others seek out European brands because of the perception that the formulas are of higher quality and that European formula regulations are stricter.”

On this black(ish) market, it turns out Americans are willing to pay big bucks for European formula. Szalinski says that on one website selling EU baby formula, you’ll find German imports that run roughly $26 for a 400-gram box, which is about quadruple the price of the top US baby formulas recommended by the Times.

At times, these nefarious black market imports have resulted in high profile busts, like in April 2021 when US Customs and Border Protection agents in Philadelphia seized 588 cases of baby formula (value: $30,000) that violated the FDA’s “import safety regulations.”

Some may contend that the FDA is simply keeping Americans and their babies safe—which is no doubt what regulators want you to believe—but this overlooks an inconvenient fact: despite the FDA’s efforts, Americans are consuming vast amounts of black market baby formula, and the children are doing just fine.

The government’s regulatory war on baby formula imports isn’t the only way it has contributed to the baby formula shortage, however. Tariffs have also played a role. As Cato scholar Scott Lincicome pointed out on Twitter, the US government imposes a stiff levy on baby formula (technically a “tariff rate quota”) that amounts to 18 percent.

There’s general agreement among economists that tariffs create market distortions that harm domestic consumers over time, and there’s every reason to believe these taxes on imports have made it more difficult for Americans to access baby formula during this shortage (and hit their pocketbooks, too).

If the Biden administration is serious about addressing the baby formula, they’d forget about “working around the clock” and simply abolish the protectionist policies and regulations that are making it more difficult to purchase formula.

Some may contend that this would result in more foreign imports of baby formula of “questionable” quality, but it’s a mistake to believe that bureaucrats in Washington, DC (or anywhere else for that matter) have the “proper” formula that meets some universal standard.

Indeed, as Szalinski points out in her Times article, though the EU and the US both require a bunch of the same vitamins and minerals in baby formula, there are some striking differences as well, particularly in iron content and DHA (an omega-3 fatty acid).

Because the EU requires high levels of DHA, something that isn’t required at all in the US, nearly all American baby formulas fail to meet the EU standard.

“Currently, the only US formula that would meet the EU’s requirements for DHA is the new infant formula Bobbie,” writes Szalinski. “As a self-described ‘European-style’ formula, Bobbie is marketed as an FDA-regulated alternative to European formulas.”

Bureaucrats in DC no doubt will tell you their formula is the correct and healthy one, while bureaucrats in the EU almost certainly would contend they have the right mixture of ingredients.

This invites an important question: who actually has the best baby formula for infants, the EU or the US?

Many may think they know, but the economist Thomas Sowell reminds us this is the wrong question.

“The most basic question is not what is best, but who shall decide what is best,” Sowell says.

What Sowell was getting at is that consumers with skin in the game must ultimately decide what product or service is best for them, and government attempts to regulate that choice invariably make it more difficult for consumers to get the best product at the best price.

This is why the economist Ludwig von Mises noted that consumers—not politicians, CEOs, or bureaucrats—are the true captains of the economic ship in a free market.

“The real bosses, in the capitalist system of market economy, are the consumers,” Mises wrote in his book Bureaucracy. “They, by their buying and by their abstention from buying, decide who should own the capital and run the plants. They determine what should be produced and in what quantity and quality. Their attitudes result either in profit or in loss for the enterpriser.”

The baby formula shortage is the latest example that shows most people in Washington, DC need to crack open some Mises and stop trying to provide “solutions” to markets.

It all started with a quick email discussing Governor Andy (what can I say, I’m Italian) Cuomo.  We discussed his flawless nursing home  Covid strategy; and his amiable, touchy-feely work environment.  Obviously, this environment was blown out of proportion by his accusers, with charges of sexual abuse and intimidation —seeing as though #metoo, and the usual outraged celebrities, Cher, Milano, Behar, Streep, Whoopi……never said a word about it.  Some have said though: if Andy had been a Conservative, there would have been 24/7 coverage from these seekers of “believe all women.”  Care to weigh in on this one, Deano?

Here is a quote from that era Deano.  “I believe them and I respect them, being able to tell their story and having the courage to do it.”  Sound familiar Deano?  It should, this is what Kamala Harris said about Joesph Robinette Biden and sexual harassment accusations against him during a Presidential campaign event on 4/3/19.  No worries though, after Kalamity garnered less then 2% of the vote in Democratic primaries, Joey selected her as his running mate due to her gender and skin pigmentation……..I mean her mental acuity and experience (not the experience with Willie Brown).  See, everybody is happy again, except “Dr.” Jill (Hunter’s babysitter, while dating Joey) we are told.

Moving on

We did cover so much since then Deano old sport.  Of course, the campaigning of Joey O’biden  from his basement—all the way up to his installation as the resident, at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.  It all seems like a fairytale (some, if not most, say nightmare) now. Don’t sell yourself short Deano old sport—you and your tabloid played a major role in getting Joey installed.  You must be brimming with pride right about now……with Joey’s outstanding track record.  I mean look at all that he has accomplished in 17 short months……..truly remarkable!  But for some unexplainable reason Deano, there is hardly a mention of all that he has accomplished in your iconic tabloid.  Your tabloid still seems to be consumed with elected President Trump, sort of like say….CNN.  Well, Conservatives have their own take on Joey’s accomplishments and of course your tabloids omission of them.  Let’s see what they have been saying.

O’Biden is a Mentally Addled Corrupt Puppet.

Yes, I know Deano, strong words indeed.  Conservatives say, at first they felt as though this installed corrupt pathological liar and his inept administration, were just grossly incompetent.  But as time goes on it has become very obvious, little Joey and his gang of misfits are intent on destroying this once great nation—with a little (a lot of) help from those behind the scenes.

People like Georgie Soros, Barry Soetoro (aka Barack Hussein), Susan Rice, the effervescent Hillary Clinton (she of Steele dossier fame), etc.

And those not so behind the scenes, like Chardonnay Pelosi (devout Catholic ), Chuckie Schumer, Adam Schiff (impeachment expert), Alejandro “I know nothing” Mayorkas —who I believe is in talks to play Sgt. Schultz in an upcoming Hogan’s Heroes remake, Pocahontas Warren, AOC and the squad, Maxine “get up in their face” Waters. Lapdog AG Merrick Garland, who looks like he is on the verge of a nervous breakdown, trying to cover for Hunter (former crack addict, now famous artist); in addition to incandescently labeling parents, “Domestic Terrorists,” for having a say in the garbage that is trying to be used to indoctrinate our children.  General “I’ll give China a heads up if we are going to attack” Milley, Defense Secretary Austin and Secretary of State Blinken.  Those last three orchestrated the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle (spearheaded by the pathological Liar-in-Chief), resulting in the deaths of 13 American troops and scores of Afghan refugees.  Who can forget the sight of Afghans falling to their death off of planes from hundreds of feet, trying to escape the Taliban. Conservatives say, all so the village idiot occupying the White House, could have a nice story and photo-op for the 20th anniversary of 9/11.  As usual, Joey’s plan failed spectacularly, a pattern he displays time and time again.  President Trump is a racist! (Diversionary tactic, I picked up from you Dean Baquet….how’d I do?)

Media was Complicit Also

I believe it was Joseph Goebbels who attributed the success of the Nazi movement to the control of the media with their propaganda.

Yes Deano, those right wing zealots are saying that those who are possibly most responsible for this whole nightmare  we are living through, is the media……..including you Dean Baquet, Executive Editor of the tabloid, The New York Times.  I’ll give you just a few of their examples.

-censorship by Twitter and Facebook of the Hunter laptop story, implicating Mr. 10%, aka the Big Guy, aka the buffoon residing in the White House; which was attributed to “Russian disinformation.”  I believe pathological liar and mentally disturbed Adam Schiff came up with that beauty.  Wasn’t it swell that Attorney General Billy Barr had all this information, but didn’t want to release it, because it may have influenced the election. How patriotic of ole Billy, putting his country first, what a guy.  Of course, your tabloid, as well as those morally corrupt “news” agencies  CNN, WAPO, MSNBC, and all major networks, joined with that popular guise of just omitting the story all together……very professional Dean Baquet, very morally professional indeed.

-Russian collusion farce, and Steele dossier nonsense orchestrated by the angelic Hillary Clinton.  Will your paper be returning the Pulitzers it garnered from this propaganda blitz, Deano?

– the omission of voter fraud, specifically in the 6 swing states, that elected President Trump was leading……..until the middle of the night, when a vast majority of mail in votes went for the great leader/orator/unifier  Joey Talibiden, some as high as 90+% Simply remarkable!  I believe the Times mantra with this was—nothing to see here move along.

– minuscule coverage  of violent crime, especially in DEMOCRATIC cities spiraling out of control, due to handcuffing the police and moronic no-bail polices and ultra liberal District Attorneys.   We tried to get a comment from defund police cheerleader, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, but we were unable to get by her 70 police officer security detail…..seems a tad hypocritical.   Care to comment Deano?

  • pushing climate change and white supremacy as the biggest challenges confronting American citizens.  Here’s an idea Deano, why not take a poll of average Americans and see what is more important to them—feeding their families and heating their homes or the onslaught of white supremacy?
  • hardly any mention at all by you Deano, of the highest inflation in over 40 years, or gas that is at its ALL TIME high….just another feather in Joey’s cap.  Yet, your paper day in and day out covers the “Insurrection,” no, no, not the real one on November 3rd, 2020, the one being orchestrated by Chardonnay Pelosi, Adam Schiff and the media to draw attention away from this (intentional, evidently) dumpster fire of an administration.  The old omission/deflection trick you use so well, Mr. Executive Editor.
  • oh, and that other never mentioned tidbit in your paper, the little issue of the southern border catastrophe.  I know Deano, I broke your cardinal rule of bringing up anything that is genuinely relevant to the safety and concern of our nation.  I’m referring to treasonous dereliction of duty to safely protect our country’s border, led by political stooge Mayorkas and of course the border czar, Heels Up Harris (where is the czar….possibly on holiday with Willie Brown?).

Fentanyl flowing into our country and catastrophic  overdoses, the number one cause of deaths for the 18-45 age group.  See Joey is number one for something.  Ok, ok, let’s get back on track Deano, let’s get some front page articles about elected President Trump’s tax returns.  This is what Americans really want, right champ? We must deflect or omit!  Pure journalistic integrity over there at The Times.

Where we Stand Now

Well, we now have the Houseplant-in-Chief using different catch phrases for his destruction of our country.  My personal favorite is, “Putin’s price hike.”  It has a nice ring to it, don’t ya think Deano? Maybe make it into a rap song.   Of course, we all know that the CPI was 7.9% (it was 1.4%, when he was installed), before Putin stepped foot inside Ukraine.  It presently sits at 8.3% down from the previous month of 8.5%.  Word is Joey was so happy about this monumental drop, that “Dr.” Jill said Joey can ride his big wheel for an extra 1/2 hour in the White House and have 2 scoops of ice cream for dessert.

We have gas at $4.40 a gallon and diesel currently at $5.50…..that should help with food prices, I’m sure.  These are just averages mind you, some states like the lovely state of California has prices a dollar or two more above that.

Supreme Court Leak?

We now have the Supreme Court compromised with the leak (wink,wink) of the possible overturning of Roe v Wade decision.  It almost seems like these are acts of desperation by a certain political party.  We now have protesters showing up at justices houses and neighborhoods, encouraged to do so by the likes of Chardonnay Pelosi, Jen Goebbels Psaki and the honorable  Chuckie Schumer.  The installed resident didn’t comment on it, as it was during his afternoon nap time of 2-4 (not to be confused with his morning nap time), we tried to reach him after his snooze but he already settled in for cartoons and pudding.  I’m sure you wouldn’t mind a peaceful protest at your residence in the East Village in NYC or your estate in the highly non-diverse hamlet of Larchmont California, eh Deano.  Of course, only if they were peaceful protests, as Peppermint Patti Psaki insists they are.

More Catchphrases

Let’s see what other catchphrases do we have….well, there is “transitory inflation,” that started early last year.  That one really didn’t work out too well, huh.  As far as inflation goes, Joey said it’s greed due to big oil, meat packing plants, etc….I’m sure q-tip companies will be lumped in there soon.  Some may say, it is a direct correlation with Joey’s (I mean his handlers) moronic polices to eliminate the fossil fuel industry, to placate Bernie, AOC and the gang.   Before that, he said inflation was just a sign that the economy was doing sooooo good.  I’m curious Deano, was Joey Bidenflation an economic professor in addition, of course, to being a big rig driver, coal miner, lumberyard worker, etc, etc? (Imaginary jobs made up by the sociopathic, mentally addled resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave).

Here is an oldie but a goodie— “it’s the virus of the unvaccinated.”  This as several high profile politicians such as Heels Up Harris, Governor Kathy Hochul and the like, who have been double vaccinated and doubled boosted have gotten Covid.   They are sure to immediately say though (almost on cue, and scripted) that the symptoms are much less severe due to them having the shots and boosters.  One question though: if they never had Covid before getting all these shots…..how do they know the symptoms are less severe?   Personally, I’m going to wait until they start offering free pizzas, say after the 5th booster to start getting mine.

How about “winter of severe illness and death.”  By the way, didn’t Joey campaign from his basement, that he had a plan to stop Covid in it’s tracks?  Any idea Deano when he is going to let us in on those plans?  I mean he said elected President Trump should have resigned, due to over 200,000 deaths attributed to Covid.  Doesn’t that mean little Joey should have resigned at least twice already, as his death toll is reaching 500,000.  I used to like when CNN (highly regarded news network) used to have the death meter 24/7 when elected President Trump was in office.  For some reason, they removed that when Joey was installed, very puzzling.

Now the newest slogan being used by the great deflector.  Ultra-Maga, is being used as some sort of condemnation.  I guess putting your country first and making it great is a bad thing Deano?  Well, if that is not the case Joey Bidenflation is doing an outstanding job, because his handlers are absolutely destroying this once great country.  Yes, he certainly is not putting America first….by any means.  Maybe he could get his own acronym, perhaps MASA—Make America Suck Again, or MEBAGA—Make Everybody But America Great Again.  You see Deano the possibilities are endless, when you are purposely sabotaging your own country.

Personal Note

Well Deano, on a personal note I want to say it has been an absolute pleasure communicating with you over the last couple of years.  You are truly the consummate professional when it comes down to moral, upstanding, objective, apolitical, unbiased reporting. You are an absolute gem, always living by Times mantra, “printing all the news that is fit to print.”  I can only hope that that karma pays you back tenfold for all that you have done.

Conservatives Disagree

But of course, those Conservatives vehemently disagree.  They call you a morally corrupt political hack, just a propaganda machine for extreme treasonous, liberal ideologies. Someone who has taken double standards and hypocrisy, to a new level. They want to know how you can actually look at yourself in the mirror, and more importantly how you look at family, the lovely Dylan and young Ari, all the while knowing you are spewing political propaganda.  Your ridiculous attempt to deflect and omit, to cover the destruction of our country is reprehensible and you and your tabloid are in fact, morally bankrupt. Conservatives question how much AG Sulzberger, your boss is paying you? They want to know what the going rate is to sell your soul?  Or they say, you could be of the same ilk as Biden, Pelosi, Schiff, Mayorkas, Harris, Clinton, Sanders, AOC, Warren and the like………those with true sociopathic tendencies and have absolutely no conscience, and are able to lie at will.  ‘Printing all the news that is fit to print”……absolutely hilarious, Conservatives say!

Retirement Party

Hey Deano, could you shoot me the information in regards to your retirement party?  I would love to have a drink with you and reminisce about the old days.  I’ve been hearing Barack Hussein may be hosting it at his seaside estate, no, not the multimillion Hawaiian estate, the 26 acre $14,000,000 one on Martha’s Vineyard, or his $12,000,000 Washington enclave.  To keep it green, I though we could take an electric Uber or limo.  Maybe you, me, the Boss, Colbert, and Bernie “millionaire” Sanders could chip in on one.  We do have a problem once we get to the ferry though.  I believe the ferry runs on diesel.  Hey, what the heck, we could just swim to Martha’s Vineyard from there.  I mean if Liberal icon Teddy Kennedy can do it, why can’t we…..and we won’t be drunk.  We don’t even have to call the police the next day to report a car crash (not to mention the drowning victim).  Yep, Teddy Kennedy, the “Liberal Lion,”  the quintessential highly moral face of the Democratic Party.

One last thing: when is “Dr.” Fraudci going to announce the most deadly variant yet.  I mean November is only a few months away.  We need to have the the voting centers shut down and make this a total mail in election process………just to keep it on the up and up of course.  I mean for the safety of the American citizens, they must be confined to their homes.  Obviously, Barack Hussein birthday bashes and Chardonnay Pelosi’s hair appointments are exempt, we’re not Nazis  here…….I think!

On Monday, the Otero County Commission held a special meeting on the 2020 election audit sanctioned by the County exposing shocking results from the 2020 election. The auditors  ound a feature within Dominion machines that would allow ballots to be filled out by the machine itself. They also found material issues with the voter rolls in the county. Furthermore, all of the ballot images from the 2020 Election were deleted and this occurred after Dominion worked on the voting machines in the county in June 2021.The Pinion Post is reporting that all of the ballot images disappeared from the machines after Dominion worked on them in June of 2021. Those images must be saved for over a year.

On Monday night in Alamogordo, Otero County, New Mexico, individuals involved in a 2020 Election audit presented results from their audit to date. They identified a number of issues and some very shocking issues as well.

The auditors found material issues with the voter rolls in the county.

The Pinion Post reported that per the auditors, all of the ballot images from the 2020 Election were deleted and this occurred after Dominion worked on the voting machines in the county in June 2021.

These Dominion errors come after the county auditors reported last week that the Dominion voting machines had an erroneous code in them that would force ballots to move to adjudication where the selections on the ballots are manually determined.

The Pinion Post reports:

Erin Clements was joined by her husband, David Clements, and expert witness Jeffrey Landberg, who was involved in finding apparent fraudulent activity in Antrim County, Michigan, during the 2020 election. Landberg has been helping with the data side of the audit after Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai of EchoMail, Inc. was intimidated out of participating in the audit by “threats from up high” from Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

David Clements opened up his testimony on the apparent fraud by saying, “We’re told that the Lord abhors inaccurate weights and measures. What we’re finding is inaccuracy after inaccuracy after inaccuracy.” He added, “You have a potential crime scene in Otero County.

Clements said, “It appears you’re being held at gunpoint.” He said the County is a casualty of “lawfare” from “Congress and a bunch of operatives.”

Landberg echoed David Clements’ sentiments, saying, “If you even question election integrity, you get canceled.”

There were project files missing for the 2020 election in Otero County, according to Landberg. The voting machine company, Dominion Voting Systems, came out to “service” the units in June 2021, according to Otero County Clerk Robyn Holmes. Landberg concluded that Dominion “definitely had the possibility of erasing stuff.”

Landberg also noted how models of Dominion machines in Otero County had the capabilities of remote access from outside sources. He said manufacturers, such as Dominion “have led people to believe they don’t have that capability.” But they do have this capability, according to evidence provided by the Clements.

Landberg also noted that the Otero County audit found a feature within Dominion machines that would allow ballots to be filled out by the machine itself.

The audit team will present their work from their review of ballot images at a later date.

Audio has surfaced of Senator Lindsey Graham suggesting Joe Biden was the “best person” to lead the country after the January 6th riot at the Capitol.

The news comes from another audiotape released by New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns for their new book titled, “This Will Not Pass.”

Graham’s comments suggest those in attendance at the Capitol that day do not represent the Republican Party and that Biden would unify the nation and make us stronger. That didn’t exactly pan out.

“We will actually come out of this thing stronger. Moments like this reset. It’ll take a while. People will calm down,” Graham (R-SC) can be heard remarking.

“People will [say] ‘I don’t want to be associated with that.’ This is a group within a group,” he added.
