California Democrats To Cut Gas Tax For 3rd Time, Raise Taxes Instead

By The Geller Report

The brutalist party HATES you.

They actually raised taxes on gas suppliers to use as rebates (Fox 40). From Republican Vince Fong:

Sacramento Democrats gutted a common sense bill to temporarily suspend the state’s gas tax to provide immediate relief & replaced it w/ a massive tax increase on energy producers. I wish I was making this up. What happened represents everything that is wrong w/ Sacramento. pic.twitter.com/MQxQNaonEO

BREAKING: California lawmakers in the Assembly Transportation committee kill @KevinKileyCA gas tax holiday bill.

Dems turned it into a new vehicle fuel windfall profits tax on gas suppliers when price of gas is abnormally higher than price of oil.

The new version passes 8-4.

California Bill to Cut Gas Tax Fails 3rd Time

By Vanessa Serna, The Epoch Times, March 29, 2022:

SACRAMENTO—The effort to temporarily halt California’s 51-cent gas tax failed for a third time in a state assembly committee as lawmakers instead proposed changing the bill completely by adding a new tax on fuel suppliers to feed a rebate program for gas consumers.

Assembly Bill 1638 by Assemblyman Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin) was accepted to be heard on a last-minute basis by the state Transportation Committee on March 28, after being shut down by lawmakers on March 14 and March 24.

Assemblyman Alex Lee (D-San Jose) opposed Kiley’s bill while blaming the high gas tax on fossil fuel corporations—such as Chevron and Vallero—which he said pocketed billions in a record profit last year.

“I definitely sympathize and I understand how hard it is right now, and how hard it is at the pump,” he said. It’s not because we are paying for roads. It’s because there are corporations out there who are fracking the hell out of this planet.”

Lee further highlighted the funds from the gas tax that go towards fixing roads while claiming the surplus can not ensure these projects continue to proceed if the gas tax is suspended.

“If we are to find ourselves in [an] economic deficit, the money that goes directly to constituents and roadways and transportation can evaporate,” he said.

Rather than simply voting on AB 1638, Lee decided to strike out all current contents of the bill and fill in multiple amendments, including taxing fuel suppliers more to offset their “windfall profit” and turning that tax revenue into gas rebates for consumers.

At this point, it is still unclear whether Lee’s “vehicle fuel windfall profit tax” would affect the gas prices at the pump for consumers and how the proposed rebate program would look.

While Lee urged for his amendments to be made, he refused to add his name as an author to the bill.

Assemblyman Vince Fong (R-Bakersfield) opposed Lee’s amendments, questioning the motion that would raise taxes on residents rather than providing relief.

“A bill to temporarily suspend the state’s tax for six months [and] provide immediate relief to Californians is being hijacked … to raise taxes even more,” Fong said.

Assemblywoman Janet Nguyen (R-Huntington Beach) echoed her disappointment in Lee’s decision to drastically attempt to amend the bill rather than simply vote no.

“Why are we just being silent and prolonging this pain for all these families?” Nguyen forcefully questioned. “Putting more taxes on Californians is the wrong thing to do.”

The Abraham Accords Have Outpaced the Most Optimistic Predictions thumbnail

The Abraham Accords Have Outpaced the Most Optimistic Predictions

By Jihad Watch

Since 2020, when four Arab states – the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan – joined the Abraham Accords and normalized ties with Israel, there have been major developments in the economic ties between the Jewish state and these Arab members of the Abraham Accords. Business deals, involving trade, technology, tourism, and agriculture have been signed. With the UAE alone – which has enthusiastically engaged with the Jewish state — Israel has signed deals worth $675 million. Israel’s Minister of Intelligence, Eli Cohen, has said that annual trade between Israel and the UAE is expected to reach $4 billion in three to five years. The UAE ‘s Minister of Trade, Abdulla Bin Touq, said that Abu Dhabi was projecting to grow economic ties with Tel Aviv to the tune of $1 trillion over the next decade.

The UAE has also been discussing buying weapons from Israel, now deciding between the Barak 8 or Spyder air defense missile systems, as well as the Iron Dome anti-missile defense systems. The UAE’s buying spree of weapons seems likely to end with the lion’s share of its purchases – save for the 80 Rafale fighters it has bought from France – coming from Israel.

Trade between Israel and Bahrain reached close to $280 million in 2021. Israel has so far been exporting diamonds and refined metals for chemicals to Bahrain and importing oil and aluminum from Bahrain.

In early February, Israel signed a security cooperation agreement with Bahrain, the first such agreement it has signed with a Gulf state. Israel has agreed to sell weapons to Bahrain.

Israel has also signed trade and tourism deals with Morocco. More than a million Israelis claim descent from Moroccan Jews, and many are eager to return as tourists. Bilateral trade between Israel and Morocco is growing quickly, especially in the agritech and health care sectors. From trade worth less than $30 million in 2020, according to Aviv Baruch, the chairman of the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute, “the target now is to exceed over $1 billion in trade over the next three years.”

Morocco principally exports clothing and textiles, fruit, electric components and inorganic chemicals. Israel’s exports to Morocco center on agriculture, water technology, machinery, healthcare, and security. Israel has signed an agreement to sell drones and “advanced weapons” to Morocco.

Deals between Israel and Sudan, the fourth Arab member of the Abraham Accords, have so far been less impressive, limited to Israel sharing its knowhow in wastewater management, drip irrigation, desalination, and water production from the air. Future trade is likely to continue to focus on agriculture.

What all this means is that the Abraham Accords have outpaced the most optimistic predictions, and Israeli trade will continue to grow, and there will be more sales of Israeli weapons to the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco, as well as greater cooperation on intelligence with the UAE and Bahrain on Iran, and with Morocco on the Muslim Brotherhood.

As time passes, and the benefits of belonging to the Abraham Accords become ever more evident to other countries, one can expect more Arab and Muslim states to join. King Salman of Saudi Arabia is not in favor of joining the Accords, “as long as there is no Palestinian state,” but he is 86 and in poor health. Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, who will soon succeed him, has signaled that he looks with favor on Saudi Arabia’s adhesion to the Abraham Accords. Other likely candidates include Oman and the most populous Muslim nation, Indonesia.

Every year brings improvements in Israel’s defenses against terrorist attacks. Time in this, as in so much else, is on Israel’s side. Israel won all its wars, big and little, learned to defeat terrorist groups, and discovered how to locate and destroy the terror tunnels built by both Hezbollah and Hamas. Israel built a security fence separating Gaza from Israel. In December 2021, Israel announced the completion of the Gaza barrier. It is 40 miles long, and cost an estimated $1.11 billion to build. The barrier features a sensor-equipped underground wall to prevent terrorists from digging tunnels into Israel. It also has a nearly 20-foot high above-ground fence with remotely controlled weapons systems and an array of radar systems with cameras that cover the entire territory of the Gaza Strip. In addition, a barrier at sea has sensors to detect incursions from the water. It will be nearly impossible for terrorists to enter Israel from Gaza.

Similarly successful has been the security wall that Israel built between the Green Line – Israel’s pre-1967 border –and the West Bank. In 2002, there were 452 Israeli fatalities from terrorist attacks. Before the completion of the first continuous segment (July 2003) at the beginning of the Second Intifada, 73 Palestinian suicide bombings were carried out from the West Bank, killing 293 Israelis and injuring over 1,900. After the completion of the first continuous segment through the end of 2006, there were only 12 attacks based in the West Bank, killing 64 people and wounding 445. Terrorist attacks declined to 9 in 2010.

Israel, the Start-Up Nation that has never lost a war, has suffered assorted slings and arrows in one theatre of conflict – the kangaroo court of the United Nations.

In the U.N., Israel continues to be attacked in the General Assembly and, especially, in the U.N. Human Rights Council. At every session of the UNHRC, the group takes up the permanent Agenda Item #7, which is devoted to the “human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.” More UNHRC resolutions have condemned Israel than have condemned the remaining 192 states put together. This past December, the General Assembly approved the establishment of an open-ended commission by the UNHRC to investigate Israeli “war crimes.

While the UN can pass all the anti-Israel resolutions it wishes, they have had no practical effect on Israel’s wellbeing or determination to prevail over those who wish it ill. In the Middle East, at the very same time as these UN condemnations are passed, the Jewish state has broken out of its isolation, not only with the Abraham Accords, but in a warming of relations with both Egypt and Jordan, the two countries with which it has peace treaties but only a “cold peace.” It is no longer startling to read of Israeli ministers signing trade agreements in Abu Dhabi or Rabat, or meeting with counterparts in Manama or Khartoum. Israelis are pleased, but no longer surprised, that the history of the Holocaust will be taught in Emirati schools, or that Jewish history will now be taught in Moroccan schools. Meetings between Israeli ministers and their Arab counterparts are now a regular feature of Middle Eastern diplomacy. Israel is now being accepted. Time is in its favor.

The same oil producers who during the Yom Kippur War, by cutting production and issuing threats caused a quadrupling of oil prices, managed to use oil as a weapon to weaken foreign support for Israel, are now looking to Israel as their most effective ally in defeating a malign Iran, bent on establishing its hegemony in the Middle East. In the four campaigns Israel fought with Hamas in Gaza, and the three wars it fought in Lebanon – one against the PLO, and two against Hezbollah – Israel emerged the victor every time. The IDF also defeated the Palestinian terrorists who killed hundreds of Israeli civilians, as well as Israeli soldiers, during the five years (2000-2005) of the Second Intifada. Palestinian casualties outnumbered Israeli casualties three to one. The Palestinians were forced to sue for peace. Now the destruction of the terror tunnels from both Gaza and Lebanon, the completion of the security fence with Gaza and the security wall with the West Bank, and the extensive network of Arab informants whom the Shin Bet has enlisted, has brought terror attacks on Israelis to a historic low.

While votes against Israel at the UN annoy, they have had no real effect on Israel’s standing among the Western powers – the U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K., Germany, and France – that count the most. Israel’s display of military prowess in the May war with Hamas reinforced respect for Israel, as did the performance of its Iron Dome anti-missile system, which intercepted 90% of the rockets Hamas hurled at Israel. Other countries have indicated their desire to buy this Israeli defensive marvel, that has proven itself in a real war.

They might want to wait. There is another defensive weapon that Israeli scientists have now come up with — a laser-based anti-missile system that is an astounding breakthrough. The laser-based interception, which is silent and invisible, is based on electric laser technology rather than the chemically based lasers used up to now. The cost is less than 10 shekels (about $3.50) per interception, in contrast with Iron Dome, which costs about 170,000 shekels ($49,000) per interception. This system will be operational later in 2022. Israeli innovations in weapons, offensive and defensive, keep being announced. And the world is impressed.

Israel also continues to amaze with its endless parade of high tech companies. Israel has more companies listed on Nasdaq than any foreign country except China. Israelis have more U.S. patents than any foreign country except Japan. The aggregate value of Israeli companies traded on Wall Street is more than $300 billion. It earns its title – “the Start-Up Nation” – every day. And Israeli entrepreneurs and inventors show no sign of slowing down. When it comes to innovation and market value, time is on Israel’s side.

And time is not on the side of the Palestinians. The Arabs of the four states that joined the Abraham Accords have demonstrated a willingness to pursue their own national interests and to ignore the demands of the Palestinians. Egypt and Jordan have yet to join them, but both countries have warmed up their previously “cold peace” with Israel. Egypt, In particular, does not hide its resentment of Palestinian ingratitude; the Egyptians, after all, fought in all three major wars against Israel – in 1948, 1967, and 1973 – and was defeated in all three, losing men, materiel, and money. Egypt has no intention of going to war with Israel again. Instead, Israel and Egypt are now collaborating on security in the Sinai, against regrouped fighters from various jihadi groups, including the Islamic State, and against the Muslim Brotherhood, to which Hamas belongs.

The other main historic threat to Israel has been Syria. But ten years of civil war have been catastrophic for Syria’s military. 200,000 Syrian soldiers have been killed. In 2011 Syria had 555 fixed-wing aircraft; now it has fewer than 200. More than 3,800 armored vehicles have been destroyed. Five million Syrians are internally displaced, and six million have fled the country. It will take $400 billion just to replace the infrastructure destroyed in the decade of war; Syria, meanwhile, is broke. It is hard to imagine it will ever again be a threat to Israel. The Golan, from which Syrian gunners used to rain down fire on Israeli farmers in the valley far below, has since 1981 been annexed by Israel; now Prime Minister Bennett has announced his intention to quadruple, from 25,000 to 100,000, the number of Jews on the Golan, to secure Israel’s hold on the area. Time is on Israel’s side.

But time has most definitely not been on the side of the Arabs. The source of the enormous wealth some Arab states have accumulated is entirely the result of oil sales. But the entire world is now mobilized to decrease the use of fossil fuels – which of course means, along with coal and gas, oil. The signs of such a decrease are everywhere. There were 17 million electric vehicles on roads in 2021, double the number in 2020. By 2025, analysts predict 20% of all cars sold in the world will be electric vehicles. There are 92.7 million solar panels now installed all over the world, with tens of millions now being added every year. The cost of solar power has decreased by 80% since 2010. As a result of the enormous and unforeseen increase in the use of electric vehicles and solar power, demand for oil continues to inexorably sink.

British Petroleum analysts believe demand for oil will decline substantially through 2050, due to government climate policies such as carbon pricing. According to BP, global oil demand could fall from about 100 million barrels/day in 2020 to a range of 30-55 million barrels/day by 2050. Meanwhile renewable energy will rise rapidly. Looking ahead, oil consumption as low as 30 million barrels/day in 2050 would mean a 70% drop-off from 2020. The world could manage quite well at that point without buying a single barrel of Arab – or Iranian – oil. Time is…well, you know.

Time is definitely on Israel’s side, once that problem called Iran is dealt with. And it will be dealt with, by Israel, with others if possible, but if necessary, all alone — like Gary Cooper in High Noon. If Israel were a stock, it would be a permanent “Buy.”

PODCAST: Team Biden’s Endgame – “No USA At All”?

By Center For Security Policy

“No borders. No walls. No USA at all.” That’s the rallying cry – and the agenda – of the radical leftists who have worked with fellow travelers in the Biden administration to open America’s southern border.

Now, they are celebrating the announcement that Team Biden is going to remove at the end of May the last significant impediment to illegal entry to this country. A Covid-19 pandemic-related provision known as Title 42 will be dispensed with, clearing the way for millions of single men, many of them military age, to join the invasion now well underway.

Government officials from President Biden on down are violating their oaths of office. Far from protecting our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, they are actively collaborating in those enemies’ efforts to ensure there is no USA at all. Will the rest of us tolerate such betrayals?

Our Disastrous Failure to Follow the Science thumbnail

Our Disastrous Failure to Follow the Science

By The Catholic Thing

Anthony Esolen: The Church might join her voice to our cultural madness, except that her divine Founder will not permit her to, despite prelates who worship at the altar of Belial.

Consider these statements:

“The earth revolves around the sun.”

“Women, as a group, do not possess the physical strength to make good soldiers.”

“The earth rotates upon its axis.”

“It is a biological absurdity to pretend that a man can marry a man, or a woman a woman.”

“The tilt of the earth on its axis is responsible for the seasons.”

“A child needs a father and a mother.”

“The orbit of the earth around the sun is an ellipse.  In summer in the northern hemisphere, the earth is at its farthest from the sun.”

“It is wrong to do the child-making act if you are not married and thus prepared to take care of the child, providing him with a well-established family for the rest of his life.”

“Venus shines upon earth in phases, like the moon.”

“Boys naturally gravitate toward rough and sometimes dangerous or destructive play, while girls do not.”

I have heard all my life what a great sinner against the truth and scientific inquiry the Church has been, because she comported herself poorly in the Galileo affair, sentencing that irascible genius to house arrest in a posh villa in Florence.  If anyone has the means, my family and I would be pleased to know which crime against a consensus opinion I must commit to earn a similar sentence.

For the American academy commits more crimes against the truth, and more egregiously, in a single week than the whole Church committed in the entirety of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.  An exaggeration?  Let us think about the matter.

Galileo had no proof for his heliocentric thesis.  One of the arguments he adduced, that the revolution of the earth around the sun was responsible for the tides, was feeble, and the pope’s astronomers knew better.  What Galileo insisted upon could not be seen.

None of the astronomical assertions I have made above is obvious.  Indeed, I have found that very few college students can explain to me why the sun appears, to us northerners, in the southern hemisphere. Or where the sun will be at noon on the equinox, given that they are standing on the earth at a particular latitude. Or what the elliptic orbit has to do with the speed of the earth’s revolution. Or that the earth does not move at a constant speed. Or why Venus shows in phases if you view it in a telescope, but Mars does not. Or what the position of Polaris has to do with where you are, and so on.

They do not know that the main argument against the heliocentric position had to do with parallax – the apparent shift in the relative positions of objects depending upon the angle of your vantage point, so that if the earth moved around the sun, the stars should seem to alter their pattern slightly from spring to autumn, unless those stars were so tremendously far away that the parallax could not be discerned.  Nor was there at that time any clear reason to suppose that the stars were so distant.

But the things I have said regarding men and women, and boys and girls, will lose you your livelihood if you say them almost anywhere in academe in the decadent western world.  Dare anyone deny it?  Those who are angered by what I am saying about current sins against truth will be the first to denounce you and drive you out of the academy if you say them in a classroom, or a faculty lounge, or on social media.  Perhaps you can say them alone in your bathroom, for now.

There is more.  Those things about the sexes were uncontroversial until a few cultural and historical seconds ago. That is because they are immediately obvious. Boys grow to be men, and girls grow to be women.

The boys have bodies that cry out for action and rough play – the metabolism, the endocrine glands, and the musculature determine the direction of play, in boys as in other physical creatures.  The girls have bodies directed toward the bearing and the nurture of children.  Everyone knows it.  That is why it must be energetically and vociferously denied, with obvious and severe punishments for anyone who would deny it.

If a man lies bleeding on the battlefield, the female soldier next to him, except in the rarest of circumstances, will not be able to lift him up and carry him away.  Even if she could, because of an exceedingly lucky combination of a big-boned woman and a man of small stature, he still must pay a price for the absurdity, because another man would be able to carry him more readily and make quicker work of it.

And here we are talking about only one of a thousand ways in which the greater strength of men, and their greater speed afoot, and their more fully oxygenated blood come into play in war.

It is a clown show that a man pretending to be a woman should compete against women in swimming – a sport in which the woman’s greater percentage of body fat makes her naturally more buoyant, so that she has to do less work to move the same weight than the man does. It is a perfect bedlam of drunken raving clowns to send the same women into combat against men; of no military advantage, and a harm to both sexes, not to mention to the unborn children those women may be carrying.

In many places, the Church hangs by a thread of sanity and commitment to the truth.  She would join her voice also to the madness, and cheerfully go on persecuting people who tell the truth, except that her divine Founder will not permit her to, regardless of the superstitions of those prelates who believe that one more round of worshiping at the altar of Belial will bring happiness instead of confusion, cultural decay, infidelity, and death – betraying men and women, and making a holocaust of children.

‘The Gods of the Copybook Headings’ by Rudyard Kipling. thumbnail

‘The Gods of the Copybook Headings’ by Rudyard Kipling.

By Save America Foundation

The Gods of the Copybook Headings” is a poem by Rudyard Kipling, characterized by biographer Sir David Gilmour as one of several “ferocious post-war eruptions” of Kipling’s souring sentiment concerning the state of Anglo-European society.

Last weekend my wife and I were invited to our old friends Joe and Debbie Clarks lovely home in Plant City. They were members of the original Save America Foundation of which I was president. They drove a good distance to attend our monthly meetings in Clearwater, Florida. After an incredible dinner (Pig! Never saw one I didn’t wanna eat!) he bought the following out for me to read. Needless to say I was fascinated and was impressed with the work this patriot had done. I asked him if I could publish it and he gracefully agreed I could. I hope all of you who take the time to read the poem and the analysis that is enclosed within the blog and enjoy it as much as I did. Great job Joe!

“It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere” – Voltaire

Interesting and relevant to the world today, this analysis of Kipling’s poem, the work of myself and several other individuals who also see it as a prediction of inevitable hills and valleys in the future of mankind. Written a hundred years ago but could have been written today about the United States.

The Gods of the Copybook Headings by Rudyard Kipling

As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,

I Make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market-Place.

Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,

And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn

That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:

But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,

So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,

Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market-Place.

But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come

That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch

They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch

They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings.

So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.

They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.

But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,

And the Gods of the Copybook Heading said: “Stick to the Devil you know.”

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life

(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)

Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,

And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “The Wages of Sin is Death.”

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,

By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;

But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,

And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “If you don’t work you die.”

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew,

And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true

That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four —

And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man —

There are only four things certain since Social Progress began —

That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,

And the burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire —

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins

When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins

As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn

The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

Kipling, astute in his observation of human nature, in this poem he captures the past and future of the human race should man continue to arrogantly ignore the lessons learned by past generations and cast aside by the newest generation who are intent on destroying what past generations have built because future generations have always and will always see themselves as more intelligent and more educated than the forbearers who built the civilization they view with contempt.

The “Gods of the Copybook Headings” refer to the tradition of writing words of wisdom and morality on the top of pages of 19th century student notebooks.  These headings were used to practice penmanship, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, comprehension and instill time tested wisdom and values in the student.

As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,

I Make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market-Place.

Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,

And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

An important thing to note as we begin is that the “Gods of the Market Place”,  are the latest progressive thoughts viewed by present day elites/intellectuals as more advanced, more intelligent than the old-fashioned  time proven principals that guided past generations to productive, fulfilling lives.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn

That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:

But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,

So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

This clearly describes the tendency among newer generations to quickly abandon the source of knowledge, and fall into the trap that leads us to the conclusion that we are more intelligent than those who proceeded us and the standards that they used to achieve an elevated culture have become obsolete and no longer useful.  Instead of pursuing deeper studies of the world and history, we abandon proven dogma for the more  “visionary”.  The applications of this to modern society are uncountable.  The number of educators who insist on abandoning classical education that focuses on “How to Think” for the newest and popular educational fad, “What to Think”,

The “March of Mankind” humanity as a constant necessity to “progress” to some new stage, throwing out values and knowledge gathered by passed generations and recycling the destructive concepts of Marxism and Fabian socialism concepts that have proven over and over again to be destructive but for some reason never loose their allure.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,

Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market-Place.

This is evidence that this poem is about the cycle of civilizations, and how it’s all very predictable.  As a society reaches increasing heights, it becomes more and more likely to lose touch with the fundamental values upon which it was built.  The story of 20th century United States is very telling.  The conclusion becomes that the basic knowledge of how societies work, while during long periods being forgotten, always returns, but not until a civilization has died, and a new one emerges.  We are currently living immediately prior to the period when the empire falls, and Western civilization ends.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch

They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch

They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings.

So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

Again, a reference to how culture goes from a dedication to the values that are the foundation of society, and how these traditions and values become “utterly out of touch”.  Instead people begin pursuing narcissistic dreams and fancies, completely ignoring the fundamentals that has enabled them to do so.  And along always comes politicians, the intellectuals, the merchants of ignorant dream-fulfillment and the lies that the masses want to hear.

The Cambrian Measures, the first period of the Paleozoic Era, another reference to the beginning of the principals that would bring success to human interaction.

This is an astonishing verse, which quite obviously refers to the fact that every time a brutal dictatorship like Nazi Germany, the Italian fascists or something similar has emerged, the first thing they do is take away the peoples means of protecting themselves (even though these two specific examples lie into the future when this poem was written),  Without guns, there will be no violence is what we are told.  They forget to tell us that the violence we should most fear is that which comes from the governing class.  Without the means to protect itself, a population will always be at risk of being sold into slavery by its masters.  The price we pay for avoiding being enslaved by the system, is having to face the possibility of every man being armed.  Freedom is not free, it requires that you are willing to take risks.  A promise of safety is a promise of future slavery.

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life

(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)

Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,

And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “The Wages of Sin is Death.”

Geological Time

The idea of social communism, where everyone shares everything, inevitably ends with you have to share even you wife.  This was in fact how Plato saw the ideal society, a communist state where all property was communal, including wives.  Another interpretation is how the idea that all should be shared and everyone equal, ends with nothing but more of the jealousy and moral decay that it was intended to stop.  Man is by birth a property of owner, claiming exclusive ownership of his own body.  Any negation of the principle of ownership negates the existence of a free society.  And being free to create and homestead all that which is previously unowned, man will in the end find himself not among equals, rather among other men which own in accordance to their capabilities, and their willingness to work.

The second last sentence is of great interest-“Till our women had no more children and the most lost reason and faith”.  This is in fact the stage that the West had found itself in.  Thanks to the destruction of traditional values, women are having fewer and fewer children.  Our dying western culture is becoming barren, and our homes are being taken over by other cultures.  Meanwhile the “men lost reason and faith”, which hardly needs any explanation if we simply look at how much honest work is being done, and how many dedicate their life to crime, destruction or decadent behavior and all becomes acceptable behavior by society.  Through the loss of our cultural heritage, we have lost that which makes us civilized, and the spiral downwards will continue.

Society, as we know it, is dying.

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,

By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;

But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,

And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “If you don’t work you die.”

The reference to socialism hardly needs any further explanation.  What is interesting is the interpretation of “though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy”, which is a very astute observation of what happens when less and less or real value is produced.  Whether of not Kipling foresaw a future where money would become worthless paper is maybe a bit unclear, but the fact remains that many experiments with flat paper money had been made long before his time, and they all ended in monetary destruction.  A clear sign of decadence is when money is decoupled from value, and the control of it is given to the political class.

The final sentence brings a message that is the essence of what I am trying to say.  All those dependent on the effort and money of others, to be given to them by the State, are going to find themselves destitute and starving, unless they again learn to work.  When things come crashing down, there is no wealth to redistribute.  There will be no “social security” or “welfare”.  When everyone finds themselves impoverished, only a fool will expect to be handed free sustenance.  Those of us able and willing to work  will survive, others may not.

Inevitably, reality sets in.  The “Gods of the Market” will tumble, and their smooth talk and chicanery will be for naught.  They will head for the door, tail between their legs, desperately preparing to dodge any bullets, as the common man reaches for his gun.  And finally, as all that most held dear and everlasting has come crashing down, old wisdom returns, slowly and steadily.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man —

There are only four things certain since Social Progress began —

That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,

And the burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire —

History inevitably repeats itself, and “Social Progress” is always a progression first towards ever-increasing wealth and prosperity, and as the people become complacent and decadent, a likewise inevitable collapse and reset of the system.

From the Proverb Peter 2:22, The Dog returns to his vomit and the Sow returns to it mire, after being cleansed by a higher standard of behavior we will eventually return to the vile behavior that we originally abandoned in search of a better life.

The burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wobbling back to the Fire.  Man is destined to repeat his mistakes, and our efforts to root out of society ignorance and foolishness will never be completely successful.  Civilization will continue to come, and go, and when the book on mankind is finally closed, our experience will be nothing but a small blot of ink, among the innumerable pages that have been written.

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins

When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins

As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn

The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

The “Brave New World”, inevitably turns into the “Decadent Old World” once more.  Another reference to socialism is rather clear-cut.  What “no man must pay for his sins” means needs no explanation, taking it literally will move straight into the early 21st century.  And

The Gods of the Copybook Headings…….with Terror and slaughter return.

“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ignored the science that showed children are at statistically insignificant risk from Covid.”

Unimaginable child abuse on a monumental level – the repercussions to be suffered for decades to come.

New Emails Show CDC Was Corrupted by Political Coordination with Teacher’s Unions and Activist Groups

By: Becker News, March 30, 2022:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ignored the science that showed children are at statistically insignificant risk from Covid and issued policies based on close consultation with political activists in teacher’s unions, Republican lawmakers assert in a revealing new report.

The CDC’s guidance was used as the basis for closing schools and forcing children to wear masks throughout the Covid pandemic. An exclusive Fox News report on Wednesday provides yet another glimpse of the CDC’s politically motivated coordination with teacher’s unions.

“Republican lawmakers who sit on the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis are releasing a report Wednesday revealing a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) official’s testimony claiming that the agency coordinated with teachers’ unions at an extraordinary level in crafting its school reopening guidance, despite the agency’s earlier claims that such coordination was routine and nonpolitical,” Fox News reported in its exclusive…

Arizona Lawmakers Vote to Increase School Funding While Limiting Local Property Tax Hikes thumbnail

Arizona Lawmakers Vote to Increase School Funding While Limiting Local Property Tax Hikes

By Cole Lauterbach

Arizona taxpayers could see a significant line on their property tax bill limited in a proposed overhaul of the state’s school funding formula.

The House Appropriations Committee voted along party lines Monday for an amended Senate Bill 1269. If enacted, it would spend an additional $215 million in the coming state budget and send about $172 million to public schools and $42 million to charter schools. The increased spending would continue in subsequent years.

In exchange for increased state funding, the Joint Legislative Budget Committee (JLBC) said the bill would phase out over five years the ability of schools to levy primary property tax levies currently allowed by the Transportation Revenue Control Limit. Transportation is one of a handful of expenses school districts can use to justify increasing a local property tax levee.

JLBC estimated the net tax reduction would increase to $81.2 million by fiscal year 2027.

Schools could also opt-in to the program that charter schools would receive annual funding, but they must forgo any new supplemental property tax increases. Supporters expect rural schools with limited property tax bases to find this option attractive.

The analysis estimated some schools would lose money in the change, but representatives said the bill’s final version would have money to keep those districts held harmless.

Supporters of the reform said uniform distribution by the state addresses long-standing inequities between rural schools with a smaller property tax base and urban districts flush with cash from years of population growth.

“Opponents of this bill will continue to proclaim and provide solutions that just infuse a billion more dollars into already unfair system,” said Matthew Simon, vice president of advocacy and government affairs for Great Leaders Strong Schools. “This is a fiscally prudent solution to incrementally reform our system to better reflect our state’s current realities.”

Simon pointed to Phoenix Elementary, which spends $6,000 more per student than rural schools like Toltec Elementary.

The funding overhaul also would do away with the Teacher Experience Index, a program that pays veteran teachers more. That elimination, along with ending some other teacher incentive programs, would save the state $124 million in the coming fiscal year.

Democrats and teachers union representatives said SB 1269 furthers inequity by creating a new revenue stream for Arizona’s charter schools and removing the educator bonuses.

“This clearly shifts funding to higher-performing schools, many of those are charter schools,” Rep. Kelli Butler, D-Phoenix, said. “This takes away the Teacher Experience Index, that rural schools rely upon not only to pay their teachers but to impact their economy when a lot of teachers in rural areas are employed in our school districts.”

State Rep. Michelle Udall, R-Mesa, told the committee that teacher pay programs fuel state funding inequity.

“While it makes sense that districts that have more experienced teachers are paying them more, it’s also a self-perpetuating system because those same districts are going to have enough money to take the most experienced teachers again and again,” Udall said.

Arizona law does not dictate where those additional funds must be spent, meaning the funds aren’t always increasing veteran teacher pay.

The bill must succeed in the House and one last vote in the Senate before it can land on Gov. Doug Ducey’s desk for consideration.

The Irony of Vladimir Putin’s Sieges thumbnail

The Irony of Vladimir Putin’s Sieges

By Craig J. Cantoni

Putin’s family suffered greatly in the Nazi siege of Leningrad, and now he’s sieging Ukrainian cities.

Vladimir Putin was born and raised in Leningrad, or what was formerly known as St. Petersburg. No doubt, as with all of us, his childhood experiences set the stage for his adult beliefs. Unlike most Americans, however, he was born and raised in a city destroyed by war.

One of the most horrendous sieges in world history was the Third Reich’s siege of Leningrad, which began in September of 1941 and continued for nearly 900 days. The horror is detailed in the book, The 900 Days: The Siege of Leningrad, by Harrison E. Salisbury.

It is estimated that between one and two million Russians died in the siege, not only directly from shelling but also from starving or freezing to death as many tried to escape over the only exit route across the ice and frozen tundra. During the first winter of the siege, average low temperatures hovered around minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Leningrad residents used movable cast-iron wood-burning stoves to keep from freezing in their apartments. Anything that would burn was used as fuel, including furniture, books, doors, and window trim.

Putin’s mother survived the siege. As a soldier in the Red Army, his father suffered debilitating leg injuries in fighting the Germans on the outskirts of Leningrad and returned to the family’s apartment for recuperation.

Born in 1952, Putin missed the siege but not the aftermath. Leningrad was still largely in ruins at the time, and so were most families. There were twice as many Russian women of child-bearing age than men after the war.  Putin was fortunate to have two parents who had survived both the siege and the war.

An even larger number of Russians had been killed in the Battle of Stalingrad than in the siege of Leningrad.  The city was turned to rubble in six months, beginning in August 1942, from indiscriminate German bombing and shelling. Germans were eventually turned back, but only after heroic close-quarters fighting by the Russians. The 1993 German movie “Stalingrad” did a good job of capturing the brutality.

Although the numbers have been disputed, it is estimated that 20 million Soviet civilians and military died in the Second World War. This was on top of the millions who were starved or killed in purges and gulags by the state under Stalin.

Two lessons come from this. First, Russians excel at suffering. As such, it’s probably not a winning proposition for the West to get into a sanctions contest with them to see who can suffer the longest. Second, people throughout history, regardless of nationality, have been willing to fight to the finish and see their cities destroyed rather than surrender to an invading army. Putin doesn’t seem to have learned the second lesson, as evidenced by him not expecting much resistance when he attacked Ukraine.

Let’s return to the story of Putin’s life to see if we can figure out why he didn’t learn that lesson.

Putin’s childhood and rise to power are described in a fascinating book published in 2012: The Man Without a Face: The Unlikely Rise of Vladimir Putin, by Masha Gessen. Much of the following comes from the book.

During Putin’s childhood, he and his parents lived in a tiny rundown apartment in a shabby multi-story housing complex. In the center of the complex was a small courtyard surrounded on four sides by the exterior walls of the complex. The courtyard was littered with trash and barren of greenery. Thugs would hang out in the courtyard and fight each other for dominance. In spite of his smaller size, Putin was ferocious and usually won the fights. He would later proudly say that he was a hooligan.

At the age of ten or eleven, Putin took up a Soviet form of martial art that is a mix of judo, karate, and wrestling. It helped to transform him from a hooligan to a goal-directed, industrious adolescent.

One of his goals was to become a KGB agent, but he found that he would need a college degree, which would be problematic given his mediocre grades in primary and secondary school. Through grit, determination, and intense studying for the college entrance exam, he was accepted by Leningrad University, one of the top three prestigious universities in the Soviet Union.

After graduation, Putin was accepted into the KGB, and, following extensive training, was sent to Dresden in East Germany. It wasn’t the glamour posting he had expected. Apparently, he wasn’t held in high enough esteem to be posted to the center of KGB spycraft, East Berlin, or to the West as a spy. To make matters worse for Putin, the KGB had become a bloated, bumbling bureaucracy, like much of the Soviet government. Putin and his fellow agents spent their days writing voluminous reports, which went unread as they were sent up the chain of command.

A succession of upheavals would severely bruise his national pride and threaten his career. The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, a year later Germany was reunified, Soviet satellite countries went on to declare independence, and Mikhail Gorbachev, who wanted to modernize the Soviet economy with his perestroika and glasnost but not end communism, inadvertently unleashed a democracy movement that led to his resignation on December 25, 1991, and to the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Gorbachev was replaced as president by the former mayor of Moscow, Boris Yeltsin.

The probable lesson for Putin was that democracy and other Western values can spread uncontrollably once unleashed from authoritarianism.

During the upheavals, Putin had returned to Leningrad as a KGB officer, and in a bizarre twist, would become an assistant to Anatoly Sobchak, a pro-democracy leader who was the chairman of the Leningrad City Council. Did Putin spy on Sobchak for the KGB? If so, there is no documentary evidence of it, and, besides, Sobchak knew that Putin was in the employ of the KGB.

Meanwhile, Boris Yeltsin was elected for a second term in 1996, but by 1999, his popularity had plummeted to single digits. Influential Russians began looking for someone who could replace him. One of them was Boris Berezovsky, an uber-wealthy oligarch. Here’s what The Man without a Face says about him:

Berezovsky was made in the same mold as other early [Russian] entrepreneurs. Like all of them, he was very intelligent, well educated, and a risk lover. Like most of them, he was Jewish, which had marked him as an outsider from the time he was a small child. Like all of them, he had outsize ambition and boundless energy. He was a mathematics Ph.D. who had started in business with a car import-export and service company.

Berezovsky had come to know Putin when he had arranged to open a service station in Leningrad. Putin impressed him because “He was the first bureaucrat who did not take bribes.” (But Putin would later run a kleptocracy as president.) After Putin had moved to Moscow in 1996 to take a job in the Kremlin, he and Berezovsky saw each other frequently, including at the exclusive club Berezovsky belonged to in the center of the city.

To fast forward, Berezovsky and other power brokers convinced Yeltsin to name Putin as prime minister of Russia, which he did on August 9, 1999. Putin was their top choice because he was relatively unknown, was young and energetic, and carried no political baggage, since he had not come up through the ranks of the Communist Party. Putin was essentially a blank slate upon which politicians and the Russian people could project whatever attributes they wanted in a leader.

In a shocking development four months later, Yeltsin appeared on Russian television on New Year’s Eve to announce his resignation and his appointment of Putin as acting president until the election in three months. At midnight, Putin appeared on television and spoke for three and a half minutes. Of course, he would go on to win the election.

And that’s how a political novice became the president of a nation with a huge nuclear arsenal, the largest landmass of all nations, a national inferiority complex, and with a history of suffering.

That still leaves an important question: Why was Putin, who grew up in a city destroyed by war, willing to invade Ukraine, lay siege to its cities, and inflict death and destruction on its citizens?

The answers are conjectural:

– The siege of Leningrad taught him that Russia needs a buffer between itself and the NATO nations to the west.

– He wants to restore the prestige and power of the Russian empire and the borders of the Soviet Union.

– He believes that Ukraine rightly belongs to Russia, based on history and shared ethnicity.

– He’s still a thug at heart, or a psychopath, or a megalomaniac.

– He has the same psychological disorder that compels abused children to grow up to be abusive parents. His parents and other Leningraders suffered horrendous abuse, so in a turnabout that only psychologists can fully understand, he feels psychologically compelled to inflict abuse on others.

Given how irrational the Ukraine invasion seems, the last two answers might be closer to the truth.

Conservative News Sites Are Pushing Misleading Activist Phrase ‘Don’t Say Gay’ thumbnail

Conservative News Sites Are Pushing Misleading Activist Phrase ‘Don’t Say Gay’

By Laurel Duggan

Editors’ Note: The use, or abuse, of language is now an integral part of the culture war. The attack on Florida by activists, the press, and corporations, is for the most part caused by deliberate verbal distortions of what the legislation actually says. But activists believe a higher cause is served by repeating a lie over and over again, hoping the uninformed will be duped into believing the legislation discriminates against homosexuals. Conservatives always need to be cautious about adopting the terms developed by the Left. It is not too much to say that if you control the language of the debate, you control the debate.

Conservative-leaning news outlets parroted liberal activist language in headlines to describe a Florida bill banning lessons on sexuality and gender ideology for young children.

The phrase “Don’t Say Gay,” which was used by LGBT activists since at least 2012, was mainstreamed by corporate media in February and eventually picked up by conservative outlets to describe Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill.

The legislation, which does not ban the word gay in schools or anywhere else, bars teachers from discussing sexuality and gender identity with children in kindergarten through third grade and requires parental consent for health services offered in schools. Students in fourth grade and higher will still be able to have age-appropriate lessons on gender and sexuality.

It also blocks schools from imposing rules that prevent teachers from notifying parents about services offered to children that impact their physical, mental, or emotional health, with exceptions in place for instances of potential child abuse.

Newsmax published “WH Denounces Florida GOP Over ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill” Feb. 8, and the Daily Caller published “SNL Rips Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill” March 6.

The Washington Examiner, Fox Business and the New York Post also used “Don’t Say Gay” uncritically in their headlines.

Karlyn Bowman, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, discussed the importance of language in shaping public opinion in comments to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“It is always important to look at how a question is worded when evaluating a public opinion survey,” she said. “I rarely comment on polls on a news story until I have been able to compare several polls with different question wordings.”

The legislation was signed into law by DeSantis Monday.

Newsmax, the Washington Examiner, Fox Business, and the New York Post did not respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.

Exclusive: Zuckerberg-Connected Nonprofit Helped Shift Michigan’s 2020 Voting Rules thumbnail

Exclusive: Zuckerberg-Connected Nonprofit Helped Shift Michigan’s 2020 Voting Rules

By Logan Washburn

This private organization, with ties to Zuckerberg’s CTCL, gained access to absentee ballots and edged public officials out of the election process.

A nonprofit connected to Mark Zuckerberg-funded groups worked with Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson to influence state elections ahead of 2020. The changes include getting the state to alter how it used absentee ballots without an act of the state legislature.

Documents exclusively obtained by The Federalist through an open records request show National Vote at Home Institute CEO Amber McReynolds working with Benson to change Michigan elections policy. NVAHI shares leadership ties with the Center for Tech and Civic Life, a group that shuttled money from Zuckerberg to government election agencies ahead of the 2020 election, as The Federalist previously reported. In several instances, NVAHI and CTCL worked together to influence the 2020 election.

The documents also show that the private organization funded by Facebook tycoon Zuckerberg exists to push states to adopt mass mail-in balloting of the kind that made chaos of the 2020 election.

Mail-in ballots are proven to be significantly more susceptible to fraud, as a bipartisan federal election integrity commission chaired by former President Jimmy Carter concluded in 2005. That’s because mail-in ballots provide more opportunities to influence, obtain, and traffic in ballots.

In one recent example, during a 2017 city council election in Dallas, Texas, investigators found one person had fraudulently signed 700 mail-in ballots—more than the total vote difference between competing candidates at the time. During the 2020 election in Wisconsin, officials took part in ballot trafficking and used drop-boxes for mail-in ballots, which a judge later ruled violated state law.

Private Groups Telling Public Employees What To Do

In Michigan, this highly partisan organization directly affected voting rules, the new documents show. In the emails, McReynolds suggested that Benson use administrative rulemaking to implement a permanent absentee voting option in the state. Administrative rulemaking means making regulations based on an interpretation of the law, often yielding regulations that differ from the law’s original intent and sometimes its explicit text.

“I was thinking that you may have rule-making authority,” McReynolds wrote in an email on Feb. 5, 2019. “The language below indicates that voters have a right to vote without giving a reason, which to me has left open the possibility of permanent or election specific absentee requests. To me, this means you do not likely need a legislative change.”

“Thanks Amber,” Benson replied, “Looping in Jonathan Brater and Mike Brady from our legal and policy team to explore.”

Brater served as Benson’s legal policy director in 2019, and Brady began working as her chief legal director in February 2019, according to LinkedIn. Benson named Brater director of elections in November 2019.

Benson spokesman Jake Rollow said Benson’s actions conformed to state law.

“Michigan’s voters enshrined the right to vote absentee in our state constitution in 2018, and upon being sworn into office Secretary Benson went to work implementing the will of the voters,” Rollow said.

Private, Zuckerberg-Connected Group Affects Election Policy

The National Vote At Home Institute focused its 2020 work in Michigan on its top goal of increasing mass mail-in balloting. By January 2020, NVAHI had “hired a lobbyist to quietly push for an administrative fix that would speed up the ballot processing and counting in Michigan,” according to a 2020 presentation obtained through The Federalist’s open records request. NVAHI detailed a five-step plan to push universal absentee ballots, according to meeting material from 2019.

The states that receive one star from NVAHI’s rating system are those that require a valid excuse to vote outside a private booth on election day. States with five stars, its highest rating, had achieved NVAHI’s end goal of “Full Vote at Home.”

NVAHI developed four strategies to push 100 percent mail-in balloting policy in all 50 states, according to 2019 meeting material. The materials say the organization uses the first strategy to eliminate state safeguards on mail-in ballots: “Strategy 1: Reduce the number of Step 1 and Step 2 (excuse required) States to zero. We can achieve this through federal legislation or state by state (legislature or where possible– ballot initiatives),” meeting material reads.

The group’s second strategy is to increase the number of states with a permanent absentee ballot option: “Strategy 2: Increase the number of states that are Step 4 (permanent absentee). So, move current no-excuse states (IL, FL, MN, OH, MI, NM, and others) to Step 4,” the meeting material reads.

NVAHI’s third strategy is to increase the number of mail-in-only states: “Strategy 3: Increase the number of states that are Step 5 (full VAH). CA and UT are in process. We anticipate other states will move in this direction,” say the meeting materials.

The group’s final strategy is to affect how government election offices process absentee ballots: “Strategy 4: Work with states to improve their current procedures with regards to processing mail ballots. This includes a variety of reforms that improve the current process,” meeting material reads.

In 2020, NVAHI’s Circle of Advisors provided an update on the group’s national policy efforts, according to the Federalist-obtained public documents. A map in this update claimed progress in Michigan during 2018/2019 with “no-excuse absentee,” but even more was planned for 2020, including “fixes to allow for earlier processing of ballots.”

According to the emails obtained by The Federalist’s records request, McReynolds met with Benson about Michigan elections multiple times in 2019.

“I would like to connect with you about some follow-up items from my visit,” McReynolds wrote in an email on Jan. 26, 2019. “Perhaps a quick chat at some point while you are at NASS [National Association of Secretaries of State].”

After a previous visit, the emails show, McReynolds planned to meet with Benson and several other secretaries of state at the NASS conference in Washington, D.C.

“I wanted to see if we could connect in DC [sic] during NASS,” McReynolds wrote in a Jan. 28, 2019 email. “I was hoping to spend an hour discussing a few topics.”

McReynolds also asked to meet with Benson privately in D.C. to discuss Michigan elections, and Benson agreed, the emails show.

“Perhaps you and I can chat about Michigan specifically on our own,” McReynolds said in an email on Jan. 30, 2019. “Sounds good!” Benson replied.

In February 2019, Benson took advice about absentee ballot applications from both McReynolds and Stephen Silberstein. Silberstein is a left-leaning donor connected with Democracy Alliance and National Popular Vote, according to InfluenceWatch.

“This is very helpful,” Benson said. “We will be implementing many of your suggestions.”

Shortly after their January 2019 meeting in D.C., McReynolds offered Benson and former Secretary of State Kim Wyman (R-Wash.) the position of co-chairs of NVAHI’s new Circle of Advisors, the emails show.

“I am happy to serve,” Benson replied on Feb. 19, 2019. Wyman, however, is not currently listed as a member of the group.

Benson’s Spokesman Denies Private Influence

Rollow claimed McReynolds had “limited and minimal” interactions with McReynolds.

“She was asked to join NVAHI’s circle of advisors, but her direct interactions with McReynolds have been limited and minimal,” Rollow said.

Benson joined Tiana Epps-Johnson, the founder and director of the Zuckerberg-funded Center for Tech and Civic Life, on NVAHI’s Circle of Advisors. In 2020, CTCL funneled approximately half a billion dollars from Zuckerberg to public election agencies in 2020, as The Federalist previously reported.

Partisan Employees Running Public Elections

After officials accepted CTCL grants, NVAHI “grant mentors” sometimes gained access to absentee ballots and edged public officials out of the election process. In Wisconsin, NVAHI’s State Lead Michael-Spitzer Rubenstein—who previously worked for Democrat political campaigns—personally accessed absentee ballots, over Green Bay City Clerk Kris Teske’s objections.

Teske later resigned due to frustration over election intervention by third-party groups like CTCL and NVAHI.

“I don’t know what to do anymore. I am trying to explain the process but it isn’t heard,” Teske said. “I don’t understand how people who don’t have knowledge of the process can tell us how to manage the election.”

The Federalist reached out to McReynolds for comment but did not receive a response.

The Self-Oppression of Identity Politics thumbnail

The Self-Oppression of Identity Politics

By Foundation for Economic Education (FEE)

Which story will define and inform your lives?

In today’s world of exponentially less systemic discrimination, claiming its continued existence effectively compromises more crucial mental and spiritual freedoms.

“The mind moves in the direction of our currently dominant thoughts.”

Earl Nightingale, American radio-show speaker, author, human-potential pioneer

Who amongst us hasn’t attained some goal in life—from getting your first bicycle as a kid, to landing our dream job, and everything in between—by single-mindedly focusing on its realization? We all have. In fact, that exercise, embodied by the above quote, is at the heart of virtually every self-help prescription—mantras, affirmations, visualization, positive thinking—for improving one’s life in any number of arenas.

With the above Nightingale quote in mind, let’s look at identity politics, defined as:

“A tendency for people of a particular religion, race, social background, etc., to form exclusive political alliances, moving away from traditional broad-based party politics.”

The appeal of identity politics is undeniable and understandable. For members of groups that, historically, have been oppressed or marginalized to any extent, it’s sensible (not to mention downright heady) to join forces with like-minded souls, and fight to end that oppression. Over the past half-century, minorities, women, and gays have made enormous progress precisely because they systematically organized and fought against proactive discrimination.

As such, no one could seriously argue that the above groups aren’t far freer and have far more possibilities and opportunities than they did prior to the 1960s. Because of their efforts, there are bodies of law in place expressly prohibiting discrimination based on race, gender, religion, national origin, and sexual orientation. As well there should be.

So, what happens when an identity-politics mindset encounters a society that has made enormous strides in eliminating institutionalized forms of discrimination—i.e., Jim Crow laws, red-lining practices in real estate; racial/sex discrimination in businesses, restaurants, public transportation, clubs, organizations, etc.? Does it become a movement subject to the law of diminishing returns?

Consider the underlying sentiment expressed by most practitioners of identity politics: “I am not free to fully succeed in life, and if I indeed don’t succeed, it’s because I am surrounded by people and institutions committed to keeping me down.” In the not-too-distant past, for the above groups, that sentiment was a statement of fact.

But, in our vastly different times today, does such a mindset simply become a reliable path to victimhood?

It’s one thing to fight against true oppression, where there are activecodified, societally accepted measures that prevent you from realizing your dreams, but in a much freer society, where the laws are now on your side to a far greater extent, what does one end up fighting against?

Yes, there is, but that racism exists far more in the realm of personal beliefs and prejudices held by individuals, as opposed to institutionalized policies to keep people down. Shelby Steele, acclaimed black author, columnist and filmmaker, in a recent Wall Street Journal opinion piece, obliquely underscored this point (emphasis mine):

“Of course this does not mean there is no racism left in American life. Racism is endemic to the human condition, just as stupidity is. We will always have to be on guard against it. But now it is recognized as a scourge, as the crowning immorality of our age and our history.”

Racism is endemic to the human condition. A bold statement on its surface, yet, given the history of human behavior across millennia, and the hard-wired tendency of groups—regardless of culture, race and nationality—to consider themselves superior to those different from themselves (i.e., the essential quality of “racism”), were truer words ever spoken?

So, given all the above, and particularly the personal (vs. systemic/institutional) nature of most racism today, if your goal is to “eliminate racism,” you’d need to enter the realm of mandating proper speech and thought. And one look at the insanely PC-driven attempts to curtail free speech at many of our universities (just one venue for this awful trend) is all it takes to see how dangerous and unconstitutional that exercise is.

Let’s try a thought experiment. Imagine two gay black women—people who are part of multiple “identity” groups.

One says, “Yes, I’m a gay black woman, but nothing and no one can stand in the way of my living my ideal life, and realizing my dreams.” In this day and age, with far more freedom to thrive than at any other time in history, is it even remotely far-fetched to imagine that this woman, if she worked hard enough, would, in fact, realize her dreams?

On the flipside, let’s take another gay black woman, who, immersed in the world of identity politics, aligns herself with other similar folks. To them, the world is a hostile place, replete with systemic oppression and institutionalized racism standing between them and what they want.

If those are the two respective worlds these two women inhabit, which of them is more likely to succeed? Who has more “agency”?

I can hear it now: “But you’re a straight, white male. What do you know about oppression?” Not much. But, what does my reality and opinion (ignorant and naïve?) have to do with your journey? Nothing. Given the extraordinary progress these groups have made, the far more relevant question for them is, “Which story will define and inform your lives?”

Will it be the one that essentially says, “The deck is stacked, and if I fail, it’s not my fault”? Or the one that says, “Sure, there’s still ignorant, bigoted, racist, sexist, homophobic people out there, but they no longer have the power to stop me from realizing my dreams. And if they try, I’ve got the law on my side”?

We’re all aware of plenty of people who are members of “aggrieved” groups, who’ve succeeded in life—some enormously—despite countless obstacles and hardships. By the same token, we all know of plenty from those same groups who haven’t.

Doesn’t the existence of that real-world dichotomy argue far less for discrimination, and far more for the incandescently self-evident fact that human beings are endowed with widely varying levels of intelligence, initiative, ambition, drive, vision, motivation, etc.?

We should all be prepared to push back against cases of real racism when we encounter them. But in a world that, legally, is far freer for all its citizens than at any point in history, more often than not, invoking identity politics amounts to little more than arguing for a life of limitation. And who would consciously choose that?

How Socialism Discourages Work and Creates Poverty thumbnail

How Socialism Discourages Work and Creates Poverty

By Foundation for Economic Education (FEE)

Socialism diminishes people’s incentive to work to improve their circumstances by depriving them of the fruits of their effort.

Advocacy for “socialism,” which the Socialist Party USA defines as a “social and economic order in which workers and consumers control production,” has made a comeback in American politics in recent years. Public figures such as Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders sing its praises. But the truth is that socialism deeply undermines people’s ability (and motivation) to improve their own living conditions. The misery socialism has caused for millions of people refutes its promises—horrifically.

Socialism, advocates claim, will bring prosperity and better living conditions for everyone, a claim also made for communism, in which the government controls the means of production and the distribution of the results. British philosopher Bertrand Russell wrote that socialism is “calculated to increase the happiness, not only of proletarians, but of all except a tiny minority of the human race.” As have its advocates throughout history, the now-defunct Socialist Labor Party of America depicted socialism as utopian, writing: “Under socialism our farmlands would yield an abundance without great toil; the factories, mines and mills would be the safest, the most modern, the most efficient possible and productive beyond our wildest dreams—and without laborious work.” The website doesn’t specify how such magic would occur.

The website further insists that socialism would improve virtually every aspect of life, stating: “Our natural resources would be intelligently conserved. Our schools would have the finest facilities and they would be devoted to developing complete human beings, not wages [sic] slaves who are trained to hire themselves out for someone else’s profit. Our hospitals and social services would create and maintain the finest health and recreational facilities.”

But socialist policies, when enacted, have catastrophic effects on the lives of the people living under them. To enforce such policies, governments must take control of people’s property—whether by fully nationalizing businesses, mandating what and how much a company must produce, or seizing and distributing their products—thereby violating people’s right to the product of their own effort. The victims include entrepreneurs who have built or purchased businesses, landlords who maintain and manage properties, and everyone who earns a wage, from construction workers to artists.

By violating these rights, socialism diminishes people’s incentive to work to improve their circumstances by controlling or taking away the results of their effort. However hard you work, whatever you achieve, whatever value you create—it won’t be reflected in your earnings.

The novelist Ayn Rand dramatized the effects of such a doctrine in her magnum opus, Atlas Shrugged. In the novel, a small town factory enacted Marx’s slogan “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” as policy, so that each person’s pay depended on what managers considered as their level of need compared to their colleagues’. They did this based on such factors as the number of children the employees supported, family members’ illnesses, and so on. People began to spend more time sharing their woes with the management than working, and many of the best employees left the company entirely. Within four years, the factory closed. One character explained the hopelessness the policy created: “What was it we were supposed to want to work for? For the love of our brothers? What brothers? For the bums, the loafers, the moochers we saw all around us? And whether they were cheating or plain incompetent, whether they were unwilling or unable—what difference did that make to us? If we were tied for life to the level of their unfitness, faked or real, how long could we care to go on?”

He explained that the company had once been a thriving one that people were proud to work for, but now hard times were the status quo: “We were beasts of burden struggling blindly in some sort of place that was half-hospital, half-stockyards—a place geared to nothing but disability, disaster, disease—beasts put there for the relief of whatever whoever chose to say was whichever’s need.”

This story, although fictional, points to an important fact about human nature: If people can’t change their situation, they won’t try to. Knowing the outcome in advance, they will feel no motivation to make Herculean efforts for miniscule or nonexistent rewards. As economist Ludwig Von Mises put it:

To make a man act, uneasiness and the image of a more satisfactory state alone are not sufficient. A third condition is required: the expectation that purposeful behavior has the power to remove or at least to alleviate the felt uneasiness. In the absence of this condition no action is feasible. Man must yield to the inevitable. He must submit to destiny. [emphasis added]

Socialist policies severely restrict individuals’ ability to improve their conditions, so productivity suffers and living conditions plummet. Historical examples of socialism, as well as modern-day Venezuela and North Korea, show the misery that results.

In Soviet Russia, the government attempted to distribute the results of sixty years of steady GDP growth equally by seizing personal fortunes and dictating wages. But buying power for the average person dropped sharply, and whether a person could actually spend his or her wages was largely dependent on knowing the right people. Economist Mark Harrison explains: “The distribution of consumer goods and services was characterized by shortage and privilege. Every Soviet adult could count on an income, but income did not decide access to goods and services – that depended on political and social status.”

People who lived under the Soviet regime and now live in modern Russia appreciate that they have more opportunities to improve their lives than they used to. Back in 2007, interviewers asked Russians about their memories and opinions of life under the Soviet regime; many of them recalled that the USSR had “fewer possibilities.” One respondent explained, “Now there are so many chances. You can earn enough money even to buy an apartment. Certainly it is very, very difficult, but possible.” Another participant elaborated, “Now I can earn money and there are many ways of doing so. . . . In the Soviet Union, engineers and other technical employees of middle and high rank did not have [a] right to a second job. People who had the time and energy and wanted to provide more for their families could not do it.”

In other words, people were willing to work extremely hard to improve their conditions—but weren’t allowed to.

In Venezuela, socialism has driven a once-prosperous country into the ground. University professors juggle multiple jobs to keep food on the table. Others try to escape a desperate situation; more than six million have fled in recent years, and in 2017 the suicide rate was nearly double the global average. Venezuelans are willing to work to improve their circumstances—but the socialist regime’s oppression and economic destruction consistently frustrate their efforts.

North Korea was conceived as a communist nation following the Second World War, but formally switched to a form of “self-reliant” socialism following the Korean War. The leadership of the Worker’s Party of Korea has brought widespread misery in the form of horrific rights violations, including torture, severe censorship, forced labor, and arbitrary detention. Their policies have also led to nearly half the country suffering from inconsistent access to food and water—in stark contrast to their far more capitalist neighbor, South Korea, which has flourished in recent decades.

Advocates of socialism protest that historical examples of socialism were not “true socialism” or “the right kind of socialism.” But it is socialism—people giving government control of producing things—that undermines people’s ability and willingness to produce and provide for themselves in all these examples.

With free markets, by contrast, people are free to own private property and run businesses without the government dictating production or distribution. People are rewarded for their hard work and ability. By innovating, excelling at work, and creating more and better products or services, they can make more money, which they can use to pay for better living quarters, education, electronics, travel, or other life-improving goods or services produced by others. Hence, in mostly free and capitalistic countries, such as the US, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Hong Kong, people have enjoyed massive economic growth, which has corresponded with a major increase in average living standards.

When human beings struggle, create, and innovate, but their efforts do not improve their own circumstances, they burn out or give up. Marx, Russell, Sanders, and other proponents of socialism and communism claim that their preferred systems are “for the people”—but the truth is that they work against the nature and needs of human beings.

Abortion and Biden’s SCOTUS Nominee thumbnail

Abortion and Biden’s SCOTUS Nominee

By Jerry Newcombe

WATCH: An anti-abortion activist testifies against Jackson’s Supreme Court nomination. Eleanor McCullen, an anti-abortion activist, delivered testimony in opposition of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination, on the final day of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

With a bang of a gavel in 1973, 63 million fellow Americans were condemned to die. And the number keeps growing.

Now if the Senate confirms Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, another pro-abortion justice will be added to the Supreme Court.

Last week, Judge Jackson, nominated by Biden to the Supreme Court, faced four days of hearings in the Senate. South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham raised an intriguing point to her: “Every group that wants to pack the court, that believes the court is a bunch of right-wing nuts who are going to destroy America, that considers the Constitution ‘trash’—all wanted you picked. That is all I can say. That so many of these left-wing radical groups who would destroy the law as we know it…supported you is problematic for me.”

Jon Schweppe of the American Principles Project noted, “On abortion and religious liberty, it’s clear where she stands. Jackson co-authored an amicus brief for the Massachusetts NARAL chapter characterizing pro-life sidewalk counselors as ‘indisputably harmful’ and supporting the notion that they should not be allowed anywhere near an abortion clinic.”

He adds, “Why would leftist groups like American Atheists, the Human Rights Campaign, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, the National Education Association and the Southern Poverty Law Center push the White House to nominate Jackson and the Senate to confirm?….Ketanji Brown Jackson is a woke Trojan horse, as the preponderance of evidence suggests.”

When asked to define what a woman is, Judge Jackson declined, claiming she’s “not a biologist.” When asked when human life begins, she said to Louisiana Senator John Kennedy: “Senator, um… I don’t know.”

Gary Bauer responded to her answer: “Of course, this well-educated, Harvard graduate knows life begins at conception. The problem is that she’s all in on abortion on demand.”

The Supreme Court decisions Roe v. Wade (1973) and Casey v. Planned Parenthood (1992) established by judicial fiat a right to abortion. Thus abortion, said Judge Jackson, is “settled law of the Supreme Court concerning the right to terminate a pregnancy. They established a framework the court has reaffirmed.”

One Constitutional authority had some criticisms of Roe v. Wade as a legal opinion. She said that Roe “tried to do too much, too fast—it essentially made every abortion restriction in the country at the time illegal in one fell swoop—leaving it open to fierce attacks. ‘Doctrinal limbs too swiftly shaped…may prove unstable.’”

Who was this radical anti-abortion activist that would dare criticize the left’s most beloved decision? It was Ruth Bader Ginsburg–before she became a justice on the high court who did everything in her power to preserve Roe v. Wade.

Writing for Lifenews.com, Micaiah Bilger observes that Judge Jackson has called peaceful pro-life sidewalk counselors at abortion clinics “hostile, noisy and in your face” people.

Bilger added, “Jackson has the support of NARAL Pro-Choice America, which advocates for abortions without limits up to birth…She also ruled against the Trump administration’s efforts to defund the billion-dollar abortion chain Planned Parenthood, and she clerked for pro-abortion Justice Stephen Breyer when he issued an opinion against the partial-birth abortion ban.”

I believe abortion is the single most important political issue of our time. It’s not complicated. Abortion takes a human life every time.

When judges rule in favor of abortion, they are playing God. I find it amazing that the left constantly decries bullying, yet they favor abortion rights. What could be more bullying than dismembering a defenseless, unborn child limb by limb because it is perceived as somehow inconvenient?

Some critics on the left, like Bill Maher, say that the only reason conservatives oppose Judge Jackson is because she’s black. But people need to remember that the founder of the nation’s leading abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, was Margaret Sanger, who spoke at a Ku Klux Klan meeting. She wrote a letter to one of her board members (Dr. Clarence J. Gamble, 12/10/1939): “We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.” No wonder the majority of abortion facilities are in urban areas—to this day.

In our nation’s birth certificate, the Declaration of Independence, our founders said that our rights come from the Creator—and first among these rights is the “right to life.” Indeed, if you’re dead, how can you enjoy any other right?

The Constitution, which is predicated on the Declaration, notes in the preamble that one of its purposes is: “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” Our posterity? That is, the yet to be born.

To paraphrase Dr. D. James Kennedy, Judge Jackson should get down on her knees and thank God that her mother wasn’t “pro-choice.”

If you get abortion wrong, you tend to get everything else wrong too.

Alternatives to Woke Corporations thumbnail

Alternatives to Woke Corporations

By The Daily Skirmish – Liberato.US

Disney vowed to keep fighting Florida’s new parental rights law that prevents the sexualization of very young children in public schools.  It gets worse.  Disney’s president of entertainment said she supports having “many, many, many LGBTQIA characters in our stories” and wants at least 50 percent of characters to be LGBTQIA and racial minorities.  An executive producer at Disney said it’s no secret the company is regularly “adding queerness” to children’s programming.  [More at Dr. Rich Swier] In fact, Disney is creating a new task force to make more LGBT-aware content for what it calls ‘family entertainment’.  Oh, and I don’t know if you caught this:  Disney employees were arrested in a prostitution, human trafficking, and child predator sting in Florida not too far from Orlando.

This company has gone off the rails.  The problems go back decades when Disney animators started making pornographic versions of Disney cartoons on the sly.  I don’t know why any parent would invite Disney into their living room now that Disney’s political agenda to sexualize young children is out in the open for all to see.  My advice is: don’t.  There are plenty of wholesome entertainment alternatives out there.  One alternative is Angel Studios, creators of the Tuttle Twins animated series.  Another is Sony’s Affirm division which makes faith-based films.  Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire is getting into entertainment, with the Run Hide Fight thriller set in a high school.

Daily Wire is also one of the news sites in the thriving ecosphere of new outlets on the political Right set up as an alternative to the corrupt big media sites which have no problem, for example, hiding the Hunter Biden laptop story to swing the election.  Rumble is a credible alternative to YouTube which censors conservative speech.

I ask people on the Left whether it’s important to get both sides of the story and they invariably say ‘yes’.  I ask them what sources on the Right they consult to get the other side of the story, and they tell me ‘none’ because they’re all ‘fascistic and reactionary’.  Then I confound them by recommending Just the News, which they’ve never heard of and can’t criticize.  Just the News will give you stories you won’t see in the Left-wing media and begin to reverse the damage the Left has done by manipulating half of America into disregarding out of hand everything the Right says, like this was the Soviet Union, or something.

There are alternatives to Amazon for buying books.  I like the independent book sellers on eBay who almost always have everything I want.  Of course there’s Barnes & Noble, and I’ve just discovered World of Books at wob.com.  No reason to give your money to Jeff Bezos who keeps the insufferably liberal Washington Post on life support.

Back to Ben Shapiro for a moment. Harry’s Razors stopped advertising on the Daily Wire because the publication dared to tell the truth about transgenderism.  So they fought back, starting their own razor company to compete with Harry’s. The introductory video is a scream, with Jeremy of the new company Jeremy’s Razors taking a blowtorch to Harry’s products.  Over 10 million people have seen the video, so far.

Bye-bye, Harry’s. Go Woke, Go Broke.

Finally, there’s no reason to keep giving your money to Big Charities like the United Way that funds the abortion business, or the Girl Scouts which supports transgenderism.  The best answer is to contribute to local charities you know don’t have a political axe to grind, but there are some national charities suggested on my Potomac Tea Party website.  A couple of them run guide dog schools for the blind, and there are several others to choose from.

So if you’re tired of giving your money to people who hate you – who hate America and are trying to destroy your children – vote with your pocketbook and try the alternatives I’ve suggested here today.  If you discover more, please let me know at tips@liberato.us and I will publicize them.  We can do this thing, and make the likes of Twitter – which has canceled me – come groveling back to us.

Biden denies making numerous mistakes on overseas trip despite making numerous mistakes on overseas trip

President Biden’s trip to Poland was one of the most disastrous foreign trips we have ever seen by a POTUS. Biden denies making his numerous gaffes, despite the video evidence. Once again, the Biden Administration is a dangerous joke. Watch below.

Today in a disaster of a press conference, Joe Biden played dumb about his administration’s scramble to walk back several of his own comments.

Biden Blunders: POTUS Stumbles into Four Major Gaffes in Three Days During High-Stakes Overseas Trip

Much of President Biden’s speech in Warsaw, Poland, on Saturday was strong and forcefully delivered, certainly by his standards. But the major headline takeaway, quite literally, was an ad-lib remark, injected on the fly by the president near the very end of his address. He effectively called for regime change in Moscow, asserting that Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power.” In uttering just a few unplanned words, Biden made enormous geopolitical news:

Will many people agree that the world would be better off if Putin – a brutal thug – and his band of kleptocrats were no longer running Russia? Of course. People arguing that Biden was right to say what he said are appealing to this widely-shared sentiment. But the words of the president of the United States carry substantial weight, and statements that are tantamount to calls for regime change in a foreign government cannot be unleashed flippantly.

Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson got hardened jihadis released from Guantánamo thumbnail

Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson got hardened jihadis released from Guantánamo

By Jihad Watch

In doing so, she accused the government of all sorts of ethics and human rights violations. While there is no reason why the clueless and corrupt military and intelligence establishment couldn’t have committed these misdeeds, Jackson was just working from knee-jerk Leftist anti-Americanism. That reflex should have no place on the Supreme Court.

by Aaron Kliegman, Just the News, February 25, 2022 (thanks to the Geller Report):

President Biden’s nominee for the Supreme Court represented suspected terrorists when she was a federal public defender, going well beyond a bare-bones defense to lambaste the U.S. government for some if its counterterrorism policies and broader approach to the War on Terror.

Biden on Friday nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson, currently a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer on the Supreme Court….

During her time in the federal public defender’s office, Jackson represented Guantanamo detainees who challenged their imprisonment in a federal court in Washington, D.C.

One of the most prominent cases involved Jackson representing Khiali-Gul, who the Defense Department said was a Taliban intelligence officer in charge of a terrorist cell planning to attack a U.S. base in Afghanistan in 2002. He may have also met with Osama bin Laden in November 2001, according to government documents.

The Defense Department assessed that if released Gul would immediately “seek out prior associates and reengage in hostilities and extremist support activities.”

Gul said he was innocent, claiming he had a job in the Afghan government and helped Americans.

During Jackson’s confirmation hearings for her current position last year and to be a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 2012, Republican senators grilled the nominee on her work for Guantanamo Bay detainees. Jackson, whose brother served in Iraq, responded she was just doing her job and public duty.

“In all of those situations, the views that were expressed were the views of my clients that I represented them in that capacity, and the briefs did not necessarily represent my personal views with regard to the War on Terror or anything else,” she said in 2012.

Nine years later, as part of her appeals court confirmation process, Jackson told the Senate Judiciary Committee that she was “keenly and personally mindful of the tragic and deplorable circumstances that gave rise to the U.S. government’s apprehension and detention of the persons who were secured at Guantanamo Bay.”

However, in the Gul case, Jackson went beyond simply defending her client against terrorism charges and attacked the conduct of the U.S. government, accusing it of torturing prisoners while condemning the George W. Bush administration’s War on Terror policies.

For example, Jackson claimed Gul was treated inhumanely at Guantanamo, arguing the military treated Guantanamo detainees the same as prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, where U.S. government personnel abused and humiliated some of the inmates.

“Many of the most egregious interrogation techniques used in the Abu Ghraib detention center and other detention facilities in Iraq — such as the use of aggressive dogs to intimidate detainees, sexual humiliation, stress positions, and sensory deprivation — were pioneered at Guantanamo,” Jackson wrote in a petition she filed in 2005 on Gul’s behalf.

However, as the Washington Free Beacon noted, a Pentagon inspector general report from 2005 rejected that assessment, as did Vice Admiral Albert Church in testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee….

While defending Gul, Jackson also accused government lawyers of ethical breaches, and in 2006 she asked the judge presiding over the case to sanction Justice Department attorneys over the government’s response to detainee suicides….

Jackson accused the government of violating detainees’ rights and suggested it tried to hide the seizure from the court. She asked a federal judge to impose sanctions.

In response, Justice Department lawyers wrote, “Petitioners’ filings reflect a penchant for ignoring or dismissing as lies any fact or matter inconsistent with a preconceived ‘torture narrative’ concerning Guantanamo.”

The judge rejected Jackson’s request for sanctions and said the NCIS acted appropriately.

Ultimately, Gul was repatriated to his native Afghanistan in 2014. It’s unclear whether he returned to extremism as the Pentagon warned he would if released from Guantanamo.

When Jackson left the government for private practice in 2007, she continued to advocate on behalf of Guantanamo detainees.

In 2008, Jackson was a lawyer at Morrison & Foerster and got involved in the highly controversial Supreme Court case, Boumediene v. Bush, which had profound legal implications for the War on Terror.

“Do we treat terrorism with a war paradigm of justice or a criminal paradigm: Do we treat terrorists like war criminals or bank robbers?” That, according to Burlingame, was the central question of the case, in which Guantanamo detainees asserted a constitutional right to challenge their imprisonment in federal court.

The Supreme Court chose bank robbers: In a 5-4 decision, the court ruled that Guantanamo prisoners had a right to the writ of habeus corpus under the U.S. Constitution.

Jackson and two other lawyers filed an amicus brief on behalf of retired federal judges who backed the Guantanamo prisoners. In the brief, Jackson argued that some decisions to detain individuals were based on statements extracted under torture and that efforts by the U.S. government to review these decisions weren’t sufficient to stop the problem….

Watchdog sues Voice of America for ‘amplifying anti-American and pro-Islamist reporting’ thumbnail

Watchdog sues Voice of America for ‘amplifying anti-American and pro-Islamist reporting’

By Jihad Watch

Hating America is de rigueur on the Left these days. Everyone’s doing it. Why shouldn’t the VOA join in? But this rot in the very institutions that should be protecting and defending the nation will one day eat its way all the way through.

Exclusive: Watchdog Sues Voice of America News for Alleged Anti-American, Pro-Islamist Reporting

by Joshua Klein, Breitbart, March 27, 2022:

In light of Voice of America News’ (VOA) failure to respond to dozens of FOIA requests over alleged pro-Islamic bias in its Persian reporting, the American Accountability Foundation (AAF) filed a lawsuit last week accusing VOA of withholding communications that demonstrate the broadcasting service’s role in disseminating “messages opposed to American interest.”

The American Accountability Foundation (AAF), a political watchdog group that investigates and reports on bureaucratic overreach that impacts constitutional liberties, shared its complaint against the U.S. government-funded international radio broadcaster and news outlet with Breitbart News on Sunday.

In it, Voice of America (VOA), an independent arm of the U.S. government, is accused of failing to respond to nearly 60 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests throughout an investigation into allegations that VOA was “amplifying anti-American and pro-Islamist reporting” targeting both Iranians in the region as well as Iranian-Americans.

“Voice of America and the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM) have a history of pushing partisan propaganda and manipulating the visa system to benefit shady foreign nationals,” said AAF founder Tom Jones in a statement to Breitbart News.

Groups Linked to Zuckerberg, Soros Lobby to Keep Accused NY Criminals Out of Jail

By Discover The Networks

Jailbreak organizations with financial ties to leftwing billionaires George Soros and Mark Zuckerberg are lobbying New York lawmakers to preserve the state’s “bail reform” policies that help keep accused criminals out of jail, according to Breitbart News.

Disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into state law measures that allow suspects accused of second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, child sex crimes, and making threats of terrorism to walk free from jail without ever having to post bail.

Coinciding with the state law is New York City’s Supervised Release Program, which allows thousands of criminal suspects to be released following their arrests without having to post bail or be monitored by social workers.

As a result, crime in New York City has skyrocketed. Statistics show that although murders are down compared to the same time last year, rapes have increased 24 percent, robberies 46 percent, grand larceny nearly 60 percent, grand larceny auto 85 percent, and transit crimes more than 70 percent.

“The most important city on the globe has become the laughingstock of the globe. And the dysfunctionality of our city has cascaded throughout the entire country,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) told a crowd of hundreds of New York Police officers this week.

A number of jailbreak organizations — including the Soros-funded Center for American Progress, the Center for Popular DemocracyUnited We Dream, and MoveOn, as well as the Zuckerberg-funded FWD.us — are lobbying New York lawmakers to oppose any changes to the bail reform law.

Polling released this week shows that about 56 percent of New Yorkers believe the bail reform law has been bad for the state while just 3 in 10 said it is good policy. Nearly 64 percent said the law has increased crime across the state.

On July 13, 2020, OSF, in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and its allies, pledged to donate $220 million into initiatives designed to help “build power in Black communities, promote bold new anti-racist policies in U.S. cities, and help first-time activists stay engaged.” The pledge earmarked $150 million in five-year grants for black-led “racial justice” organizations, and $70 million for a range of initiatives such as helping city governments reform policing and criminal justice by implementing a new approach to public safety that includes “moving beyond the culture of criminalization and incarceration.” “This is the time for urgent and bold action to address racial injustice in America,” said OSF deputy chair Alex Soros, George Soros’s son. “These investments will empower proven leaders in the Black community to reimagine policing, end mass incarceration, and eliminate the barriers to opportunity that have been the source of inequity for too long.” Tom Perriello, executive director of Open Society-U.S., said: “The success of this movement, the largest in U.S. history, will be measured over years, not weeks, and we cannot say that Black lives matter and not make a multi-year commitment to a strategy set by and centering Black leaders and organizations who changed America’s sense of what is possible.”

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz enters Hunter Biden’s laptop into the Congressional Record

By Dr. Rich Swier

Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) pressed FBI Assistant Director for the Cyber Division Bryan Vorndran in a Tuesday committee meeting on whether the laptop created cyber vulnerabilities for the country. After Vorndran stone walled Rep. Gaetz the Congressman announced that he had uploaded to contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop into the Congressional Record.

Rep. Gaetz, “What now you’re telling me right here is that as the Assistant Director of FBI Cyber, you don’t know where this is, after it was turned over to you three years ago?”

Gaetz announced he would introduce legislation, called the “Spook Who Cried Wolf Resolution,” to indefinitely bar security clearances for 51 former U.S. intelligence officials who signed what he called “a letter decrying the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop as Russian disinformation.”
