Project Veritas released a new video today showing Will Rogers School Principal, Nicolette Dennis, discussing her thoughts on Veritas’ exposure of “anarchist” teacher Tyler Wrynn.

A source recorded audio of Dennis asking not to be filmed and denying the fact there is a self-described “woke” educator working for the school.

Here are some of the highlights from today’s video:

  • Nicolette Dennis, Will Rogers School Principal: “There is no secret. Please take your phones off. Don’t videotape me, please. Don’t, like, put this on social media. Don’t make me feel like Project Veritas is with us…We just have to be careful right now. Everybody’s got their phones out.”
  • Dennis: “There is no secret curriculum at Rogers. There is nobody that’s got woke politics here…I do not believe for one minute that there is a radical agenda in anybody’s class in this school.”
  • Dennis: “This is not about us. This is not about our school. We have to stand behind each other even if we don’t agree. Even if we don’t agree with each other. Even if we, politically, are in different worlds. That’s ok…It’s just the world we live in right now. Part of it is – the adults have lost their minds. Because, you know what? You want to know why our kids are crazy? It’s because we’re all crazy!”
  • This comes on the heels of Veritas’ investigation that showed Will Rogers English Teacher, Tyler Wrynn, saying he wanted to take down the entire system.

Dennis does admit that Project Veritas exists to expose information that people wish to keep hidden from the public.

She said Project Veritas’ goal is to “put people in situations, and befriend them, and have them share things that they probably shouldn’t share to strangers.”

While students post low literacy rates in math and reading, Chicago teachers are acing their performance evaluations, according to the Illinois Report Card.

In 2021, 100% of Chicago Public School teachers were evaluated as “proficient or excellent” by an administrator, according to the Illinois Report Card, the”state’s official source” for information on its public schools. The same year, students posted a 23.1% proficiency rate in English language arts, a 20.6% proficiency rate in math and a 29.3% proficiency rate in science.

“It sounds like the teachers or teacher unions are the ones performing the evaluations,” No Left Turn in Education Chief Operating Officer Melissa Jackson told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “It most certainly is not ensuring that Chicago Public School students will graduate equipped to become productive and self sufficient independent citizens. What are the teachers actually being graded on? So students are failing and teachers are excelling? How is that equitable?”

Grade 11 black students had a 11.2% proficiency rate in English and Hispanic students scored a 15.7% proficiency rate, the report showed. In math, grade 11 black students had an 8.3% proficiency rate and Hispanic students showed a 16.6% proficiency rate, the report stated.

About 36% of students in the district are black, 46.8% are Hispanic and about 11% are white, according to the report.

The same year, 2021, Chicago Public Schools announced a record high graduation rate of nearly 84%, according to Fox 32 Chicago. In 2011 the graduation rate was about 57%.

“Something is horribly wrong in Chicago if teachers are earning perfect evaluation scores when only one in ten black students in Chicago Public Schools can read at grade level,” Parents Defending Education Investigative Fellow Alex Nester told the DCNF. “Chicago teachers called parents ‘racist’ and ‘misogynist’ for wanting to reopen schools during the pandemic. They chose to strike over teaching kids. And now, while they receive perfect scores, kids are suffering. Make no mistake: Chicago teachers may have passed in the eyes of the state, but test scores don’t lie. They’ve failed their kids.”

The Illinois Report Card notes that the suspension of in-person learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic may have effected the 2020-2021 data collection and evaluations.

Enrollment at Chicago Public Schools has been dropping since the 2011-2012 school year; that year 404,243 students were enrolled in the school district, but now just 322,106 are enrolled, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Chicago Public Schools did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

Drawing a distinction between moral judgment and empathetic analysis

In the study of history, presentism is an interpretation of the past through a prism of contemporary values. Recently, historian James Sweet, President of the American Historical Association, created a major kerfuffle for daring to question presentism in the AHA Journal.  Sweet’s rebuke was mild but ultimately concluded that “Doing history with integrity requires us to interpret elements of the past not through the optics of the present but within the worlds of our historical actors.” Threatened with cancellation, he wrote a groveling pseudo-retraction, but Sweet is absolutely correct in his initial conclusion.  

Presentism has no place in history classrooms. But it is widespread. 

Progressive high school history teachers employ a species of presentism via a self-proclaimed social justice curriculum  to advance causes like “equity,” “climate justice,” and “racial justice.”  Such teachers abandon history in favor of what amounts to a left-leaning political agenda.  Gaslighting historical actors against a backdrop of contemporary mores encourages teenagers to abandon nuance for ersatz moral superiority.  Complex ideas, interactions, and people are reduced to caricatures in service of a progressive narrative. Thus, Thomas Jefferson did nothing beyond abusing slaves, and slavery itself was a uniquely European construct.

As an academic subject, ethical philosophy is distinct from history. History limits itself — not what should happen, but what did happen and why.  The widespread use of Howard Zinn’s A People’s History (a poorly sourced Marxist history of the US) in American high schools speaks to the fact that progressive teachers too often intentionally blur that distinction. 

There may well be moral absolutes that transcend time and place, and history may have some applicability in a broad ethical debate. But, as an academic discipline, history (and history teachers) lack the tools and methodology to establish what those standards might be. History is a means of discovering the truth of that which emerged in and belongs to, the past. We do violence to history when we shove that truth aside in favor of presentism. Teachers do a gross disservice to their students when they substitute their own socio-political agenda as inescapable “lessons” of “history.”

Historical actors functioned in their present (our past) from specific (theoretically discoverable) motivations, concerns, and assumptions. The historian’s primary task is to understand people and events in contextas they existed within the constraints imposed by time and place. Such understanding demands empathy.

An objective study of history can develop the capacity to understand the ideation and experience of another despite never sharing similar experiences or necessarily agreeing with their ideas or actions.     

Virtually any historical figure can be lifted out of time and found wanting when held to a moral system they were neither aware of nor adhered to. In fact, because condemnation, under those circumstances, is a foregone conclusion the exercise of historical presentism is intellectually vapid. It serves no purpose beyond confusing personal bias with ineluctable truth and reaffirming a misplaced sense of moral superiority.

Moralists debate the existence of universal ethical standards. That is an important debate we are all well-advised to engage in. But history teachers do well to draw a bright-line distinction between moral judgment and empathetic analysis in the classroom.

Daily Mail: Members of a Vermont girls high school volleyball team have been banned from using their own locker room and now have to change in a single bathroom stall after they complained about a transgender teammate.

Some teammates allege that the transgender player at Randolph Union High School made an ‘inappropriate remark’ to some of them while they were changing in the locker room.

They now want the school to relocate the transgender player, who hasn’t been named. No details of the alleged inappropriate remark have been shared.

But Vermont’s state law means that students can play sports and use the locker which correspond to the gender with which they identify.

Blake Allen, a player on the team, told WCAX how uncomfortable it makes her feel, saying ‘its a huge thing . . . everyone’s asking ‘why aren’t you allowed in the locker room?’

‘They want all the girls who feel uncomfortable to get changed in a single-stall bathroom, which would take over 30 minutes,’ she said. ‘Where, if one person got changed separately, it would take a minute, like no extra time.’

Allen said the issue isn’t with the transgender athlete playing on the team, but being in a locker room where the female students are at their most vulnerable.

‘There are biological boys that go into the girl’s bathroom, but never a locker room,’ Allen said. ‘There are biological boys that go into the girl’s bathroom, but never a locker room,’ Allen said.

She added: ‘My mom wants me to do this interview to try to make a change.’

School officials sent out another email informing parents they are looking into allegations that the volleyball girls harassed the transgender student.

Lisa Floyd, Randolph High School co-president, said that when policies are violated, disciplinary action consistent with the school’s rules will be applied, adding that students’ safety is the ‘district’s top priority.’

According to the policies of the Vermont Agency of Education, ‘the use of restrooms and locker rooms by transgender students require school to consider numerous facts,’ the agency said.

The agency states in their policy that ‘a transgender student should not be required to use a locker room or restroom that conflicts with the student’s gender identity.’

The school’s investigation is ongoing.

Transgender athletes and school students have become a hot button issue in recent years – particularly when they’ve transitioned from male-to-female.

Trans swimmer Lia Thomas sparked an outcry over unfairness after she smashed multiple college swimming records, prompting a crackdown on transgender women competing in swimming.

A California middle school teacher praised Adolf Hitler as a leader while displaying his photo in the classroom, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Tabitha Barry, a middle school teacher at Carmel Valley High School in San Diego, California, placed a photo of Hitler in her classroom as a part of a lesson next to leaders such as former president John F. Kennedy, Indian spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., according to the Jerusalem Post. After a student voiced their disapproval of the Hitler next to the other leaders, Barry defended Hitler’s place amongst the photos.

“Hitler may have done some bad things, but he also had strong leadership qualities,” Barry said to the student, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The San Dieguito Union High School District reported that Barry was asked to remove the photo following parent complaints, the Jerusalem Post reported. In May, Carmel Valley High School underwent the Anti-Defamation League’s anti-bias training titled, “No Place For Hate.”

“A lesson in world history included a discussion of various historical figures, along with images of them on a whiteboard in the classroom,” the school district said in a statement to the Jerusalem Post. “The images were directly related to the curriculum and displayed during a lesson. After a concern was raised regarding one of the images and the impact it had on a student, it was taken down.”

Antisemitism is entering school districts across the country through ethnic studies curriculums and teachers unions. Diversity, equity and inclusion curriculums have also been criticized for being based in antisemitism as it is pushed into schools.

The San Dieguito Union High School District and Barry did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Editors’ Note: You may not think that Critical Race Theory and Queer Theory are on the ballot this election. But they are, especially when it comes to school board elections. Teacher unions have moved well beyond representing teachers in salary and workplace conditions. They are now the tip of the spear for promoting Critical Race Theory, LGBTQ efforts, gun control, and environmental policy. Unless you elect school board members who will restore some semblance of balance in our schools, the teacher unions, the biggest contributors to the Democrat party, will continue turning America’s public schools that we pay for into leftist indoctrination centers. They are already well along in their efforts and voters need to push back with great effort and conviction.

Teachers’ unions are helping school districts implement Critical Race Theory (CRT) and gender identity through different initiatives such as LGBTQ badges, summer reading lists, and advertisements.

The more recent push by the unions comes from the backing of the Biden administration, whose beliefs align with the teacher’s unions.

“Teachers unions are certainly embracing ‘wokeness’ and showing their true self: their actions show they don’t care about the academic success of our kids, they only care about money and furthering their own political ambitions,” Parents Defending Education Director of Community Engagement Mailyn Salabarria told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Teachers’ unions have a long history of political action, but now teachers’ unions are advocating for gender identity and Critical Race Theory (CRT) to be taught in schools. This recent push has come because of the support of the Biden administration, experts tell the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Teachers’ unions have been notorious for entering political races; in the 2021-2022 school year, the nation’s two largest teachers’ unions, the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers poured millions into political funding. The belief that gender ideology and CRT should be in classrooms has long been present, but the Biden administration has empowered the beliefs to be embraced, experts told the DCNF. “I was a former school board member from 2016 and 2020 and we did not see this stuff like we’re seeing now,” Laura Zorc, director of education reform for Building Education for Students Together, parental rights in education organization, told the DCNF. “I was not a school board member under the Biden administration. I’ve seen a radical change starting to take place in January 2021 when he took office. Underneath the school districts, you had people that had those beliefs in those feelings that we should be embracing this, but there was never that support and this is really where we see all this coming from, the Biden administration.”

As a part of a summer reading list in August, the National Education Association recommended students read “Why We Fly” by Kimberly Jones and Gilly Segal, a book that describes two girls who kneel for the national anthem. The book explicitly talks about marijuana use and is paired with discussion questions on activism.

In September, an Ohio chapter of the National Education Association provided Hilliard City Schools in Columbus, Ohio, with LGBTQ ally badges that featured a flag with the words “I’m Here.” The badges were for educators to wear in order to show their support for the LGBTQ community.

The badges featured a QR code that took students to the National Education Association’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer+ Caucus website which provides adult resources on sexual education. An Ohio parental rights in education group called the website “age-inappropriate” and said it “crosses the line.”

“The way that they’re bringing this in is through an inclusive, safe environment, you know, the mental health aspect,” Zorc told the DCNF. “‘If our kids don’t feel safe, then they’re not going to be able to learn so we have to fix that because that helps us improve the quality of academics if our kids are feeling more safe at school.’ When I look at this, it’s hard to separate. It’s not one group of LGBTQ teachers. It’s not one group that’s wanting the Critical Race Theory ideologies. It’s really coming from that Democratic teacher union leadership like these Randi Weingartens and people like that.”

Weingarten is the president of the American Federation of Teachers.

The New Jersey National Education Association ran an ad ahead of the 2022-2023 school year that depicted parents who speak out against gender identity and CRT as “extremists.” The ad cites two articles, one describing groups working to remove books featuring LGBTQ and CRT imagery from school libraries and the other discussing a New Jersey state senator’s bill which prohibits lessons on gender identity for kindergarten through sixth grade.

About a year ago, the National School Boards Association sent a letter to the Biden administration comparing parents at school board meetings to “domestic terrorists.” Attorney General Merrick Garland called on the FBI to “use its authority” on the parents who disrupt school board meetings and pose a threat.

The current administration’s actions also show they are on board with making politics and ideologies the priority in the classrooms,” Parents Defending Education Director of Community Engagement Mailyn Salabarria told the DCNF, “instead of addressing the historically low proficiency scores of our students and the learning loss they’ll suffer for generations to come. And this has emboldened teachers unions and activist teachers to push for even more ideology instead of the basics of academic instruction.”

Ahead of the 2022-2023 school year, the Department of Education (DOE) called for action to address a nationwide teacher shortage. The DOE announced partnerships with schools across the country to address the problem they say was brought on during the pandemic.

“They’re saying that we have a teacher shortage,” Zorc told the DCNF. “We do not have a teacher shortage. Teachers are moving to other environments where they’re not forced to teach this stuff. So when it comes to Critical Race Theory, when it comes to this gender ideology, it is really being spearheaded from the top down. That’s why we’re seeing this massive exodus of our public school teachers, because they were waiting on retirement, but a lot of them are like, ‘I cannot even I can’t do this anymore.’”

The push from the teacher’s unions for CRT and gender identity curricula comes as students across the nation post record learning losses; K-12 reading levels have dropped to where they were in 1990, the largest ever drop in the scores, while math levels saw their first ever decline.

Florida officials had to rush forward to deny that this was the case, lest already horrific conditions are made worse by confusion.

Harris left little room for misunderstanding, saying on Friday, “It is our lowest-income communities and our communities of color that are most impacted by these extreme conditions and impacted by issues that are not of their own making. And so we have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality, but we also need to fight for equity, understanding not everyone starts out at the same place.”

She added, “And if we want people to be in an equal place, sometimes we have to take into account those disparities and do that work.”

“This is false,” tweeted immediately the rapid response director for Gov. Ron DeSantis’s reelection campaign, Christina Pushaw, referring to the idea that race would play a role on how aid was handed out. “[Harris’] rhetoric is causing undue panic and must be clarified. FEMA Individual Assistance is already available to all Floridians impacted by Hurricane Ian, regardless of race or background.”

Florida’s senior senator, Rick Scott, also took to social media to clear the air. “This is wrong and dangerous. Aid is distributed based on need, period. FL is strong and ready to undertake the long journey of rebuilding. We are in this together, and won’t let politicians like @KamalaHarris use race to divide us as we work to recover our lives and communities. Even Elon Musk felt the need to call out the injustice included,” tweeted Scott.

As indeed, the founder of Tesla had indeed had his own comment: aid, he said, “should be according to greatest need, not race or anything else.”

The Biden administration has, however, made race-conscious benefits the hallmark of its term, even though it is unconstitutional. Last week was not by no means the first time that Harris drew a sharp distinction between equity and the American ideal of equality. “There is a big difference between equality and equity,” she wrote fewer than two years ago.

It is indeed a core belief of Critical Race Theory that, because racial disparities exist, aid and benefits should be race-based and not limited to means-tested criteria. The foundational writings of CRT are filled with the promotion of racial-conscious policies that fall under the umbrella label of “equity.”

“This belief in color-blindness and equal protection,” writes Kimberle Crenshaw in a 1988 essay, “… makes no sense at all in a society in which identifiable groups have been treated differently historically and which the effects of this difference in treatment continued to the present.”

Neil Gotanda goes right to the heart of the CRT argument when he writes in 1991, “Color-blindness strikes down Jim Crow segregation but offers no vision for attacking less overt forms of racial subordination. The color-blind idea of the future society has been exhausted.”

One problem for CRT enthusiasts such as Harris is that American society has decidedly moved away from having government or private enterprises dole out benefits or rights based on race. Race-conscious policies are dismally unpopular, with racial preferences in university admissions polling at best 26% versus 74% against and other similar policies largely rejected.

The other problem is that policies based on race are clearly immoral and violate the Constitution and the Civil Rights Act.

And yet, businesses, schools, and professional associations are falling all over themselves to compel their employees and members to conform to these ugly and unpopular views, by for example forcing them to sign Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statements, or face disciplinary measures, or worse.

Americans are fighting back. Last week, Jonathan Haidt, a liberal who is a professor at New York University, announced he would resign from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, the only professional organization he belongs to, because it has instituted a requirement that everyone presenting research explain how their work advances “equity, inclusion, and anti-racism goals.”

Haidt wrote that he found he found the demand problematic in an academic institution supposedly devoted to seeking truth. He quoted a well-known passage from a book by Ibram Kendi, who earns a great deal of money from training Americans on equity activities: “The only remedy to racist discrimination is antiracist discrimination. The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination.”

Haidt wrote, “I explained why I thought the claim was incorrect from a social science perspective because there are obviously many other remedies. And I explained why I thought the claim was incorrect morally because it requires us to treat people as members of groups, not as individuals, and then to treat people well or badly based on their group membership. That’s exactly the opposite of what most of us who grew up in the late 20th-century thought was a settled moral fact.”

It takes courage for Americans to buck the tide of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), but they shouldn’t be alone. Until the federal government is in different hands, the 50 states should be passing bills that make it clear that discrimination is illegal, as is compelling a belief in such discrimination and prosecuting violators.

Until then, we can rely on Harris to remind us occasionally what exactly equity entails, and why it must be opposed.

Students Can’t Read but Know Their Pronouns and Genders

Test Scores are abysmal for Amber, Chase, Juanita, and Jamal, but their woke scores are off the charts.

You’ve no doubt heard about the abysmal reading and math scores of America’s youth. Meanwhile, teachers are learning how to teach students all of the politically-correct genders and pronouns.  

In San Francisco, for example, teacher training includes the meaning of “gender fluid,” “pansexual,” “omnisexual,” “hetero-, homo-, lesbi-curious,” “hetero-, homo-, lesbi-flexible,” and “queer.” Teachers also learn that the pronoun “they” can refer to a singular person, that “it” can refer to a person, and that “caregiver 1” and “caregiver 2” refer to a mother and father.

Admittedly, I’m behind the times and have three strikes against me. First, I’m a liberal in the classical sense of the word, which is the opposite of today’s illiberalism on the left and right; second, I was at the leading edge of equal rights and diversity at a time when the hard-fought battles were over serious issues of justice instead of today’s wordsmithing and virtue signaling; and third, I was shortchanged in school.

The shortchanging began as a kid when my mom would use flashcards to drill me in vocabulary and grammar. Like my dad, she was raised by poor Italian immigrants who spoke mostly Italian at home but somehow found the means to send their kids to parochial schools. As such, my mom and dad knew how important it was to learn proper English.

By the way, Mom and Dad had a gay couple, Ken and Gerry, as close friends but didn’t put a sign in our front yard saying how enlightened they were.

It’s hard to believe, but my mom’s vocabulary drills didn’t include such words as “lesbi-flexible,” which sounds like a position in Kuma Sutra. How could my dear mother have shortchanged my education like that?

The shortchanging continued in elementary school, where my classmates and I had drills on the declension of sentences. (Is declension required anymore?) And in eighth grade, we were shown films of the Nazi concentration camps being liberated, including scenes of the stacks of emaciated bodies, the ovens, and the piles of hair and spectacles.

The films led me to buy the 900-page book, “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” when it came out in paperback soon after eighth grade, in order to understand how humans could inflict such atrocities on each other.  It also led to a lifetime of reading history and moral philosophy, in an ongoing search for the answer—an intellectual journey that taught me the dangers of dogmatism of all political stripes, the dangers of utopians who want to use political power to remake the world into their image, the dangers of identity politics and victimology, and the dangers of injecting political agendas into schools. 

Then there was high school, where I had to take four years of Latin and read five classics of literature over the summer and be tested on them when school reconvened in September.  The classics conveyed moral lessons, provided insights into different cultures, and told the stories of victims of injustice.

Six years of college followed in a similar vein.

All of this has left me unqualified to be a K-12 teacher, for I have the old-fashioned notion that teaching reading and math is more important than teaching the meaning of “lesbi-flexible.”

The Biden Administration Just [Quietly] Scaled Back Student Loan ‘Cancellation’

Student debt forgiveness is unjust, highly regressive, and inflationary. It should be scrapped, not scaled back.


In August, the White House announced that most federal student loan borrowers would be eligible for forgiveness. Most borrowers who didn’t receive a Pell Grant would be eligible for up to $10,000 of forgiveness, while borrowers who did receive a Pell Grant—a type of financial aid for low-income undergrads—would be eligible for up to $20,000.

In what NPR describes as a “remarkable reversal,” the US Department of Education last week “quietly changed its guidance around who qualifies” for student debt forgiveness under President Biden’s controversial executive order.

“At the center of the change are borrowers who took out federal student loans many years ago, both Perkins loans and Federal Family Education Loans. FFEL loans, issued and managed by private banks but guaranteed by the federal government, were once the mainstay of the federal student loan program until the FFEL program ended in 2010.

Today, according to federal data, more than 4 million borrowers still have commercially-held FFEL loans. Until Thursday, the department’s own website advised these borrowers that they could consolidate these loans into federal Direct Loans and thereby qualify for relief under Biden’s debt cancellation program.

On Thursday, though, the department quietly changed that language. The guidance now says, ‘As of Sept. 29, 2022, borrowers with federal student loans not held by ED cannot obtain one-time debt relief by consolidating those loans into Direct Loans.’”

NPR adds that the change could affect as many 1.5 million borrowers, noting that it’s “unclear why the department reversed” course.

While the Department of Education is mum on the sudden change, National Review suggests it may be a legal maneuver to strengthen the constitutionality of Biden’s executive order, which was recently challenged by attorneys general in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, South Carolina, and Arkansas, which filed a federal lawsuit alleging that Biden’s unilateral order was unconstitutional.

The Pacific Legal Foundation has also filed suit, contending “that student-loan borrowers in states like Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arkansas, and North Carolina would be unfairly taxed for the student-loan ‘forgiveness’ under President Joe Biden’s program.”

Few people, I suspect, could explain the difference between an FFEL loan or a Perkins Loan (I certainly couldn’t). But many rightfully question the constitutionality of the president of the United States unilaterally “canceling” with the stroke of a pen hundreds of billions of dollars in student loans, all of which will have to be paid by taxpayers who did not take out the loan or receive the service.

While I’ll leave the constitutional question to legal scholars, it’s clear student debt forgiveness is unjust, highly regressive, and inflationary.

Lawrence Summers, an economist who served in both the Clinton and Obama administrations, made it clear that Biden’s order would have inflationary consequences.

“Student loan debt relief is spending that raises demand and increases inflation,” Summers argued. “It consumes resources that could be better used helping those who did not, for whatever reason, have the chance to attend college. It will also tend to be inflationary by raising tuitions.”

While many will point out that government shouldn’t be “helping” those who didn’t attend college anymore than those who did, his observation that forgiveness will cause tuition prices to rise is spot on.

Second, even the Washington Post concedes that Biden’s plan is “a regressive, expensive mistake.” How regressive?

As Politico points out, a recent study by economists Constantine Yannelis and Sylvain Catherine “concludes that blanket forgiveness of $10,000 in debt would offer $3.60 to the highest-earning 10 percent of households for every $1 it gave to the bottom 10 percent and that three quarters of the benefits would flow to households with above-median incomes.”

Finally, some may argue that student debt forgiveness is unjust because it’s regressive. While they have a point, debt forgiveness would be unjust even if it was not regressive. As Brad Polumo recently wrote for FEE, loan forgiveness is a textbook example of what the nineteenth century economist Frédéric Bastiat described as “legal plunder.”

Polumbo explained that it’s no coincidence that Biden’s loan bailout was rolled out right before midterm elections in November, describing it as a “calculated attempt” to reward his voting base at the expense of the public treasury. This, Bastiat explained, is legal plunder.

“See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong,” Bastiat wrote in The Law. “See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime.”

Bastiat warned that “sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it.” Looting might be legal when the government does it; but it’s never moral, regardless of how many votes it buys or who the beneficiaries are.

Why the Biden administration is “scaling back” its student loan forgiveness order is anyone’s guess. What’s clear is that it should not just be scaled back; it should be scrapped.

Whitmer Administration To Hire ‘Sexual Orientation’ And ‘Expression’ Consultant For Foster Kids

The administration of Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer proposed a contract for a child foster care consultant on gender identity and sexual orientation, according to documents made public by the Washington Free Beacon.

The Children’s Services Agency, which “oversees all child welfare services for children,” is seeking a “Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Consultant” as of Sept. 12, according to documents made public by the Washington Free Beacon. The consultant would be a part of the “Diversity Equity and Inclusion Unit” and would focus on determining the “needs and concerns of LGBTQ staff, families and children.”

The consultant would create resources such as handouts, books, trainings and videos based on the results of a survey given to the LGBTQ community, the proposed contract stated. Trainings may cover topics that affect the LGBTQ community such as “implicit bias” and “historical needs.”

Within in the five largest counties of the state, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Kent and Genesee, a transgender youth service must be provided, the proposal contract read. The consultant will also focus on trainings and resources specifically aimed at the LGBTQ youth.

At the six-month mark of the job, the consultant will provide an update on the “successes and opportunities for growth” of the LGBTQ community, the proposal contract read. The goal of the position is to heighten “sensitivity” toward the LGBTQ community and issues surrounding the community.

In January, Whitmer’s Children’s Services Agency was called “just devastating” by a federal judge after a report showed that children were living in unsanitary conditions and were not monitored even after making threats of self-harm, according to the Detroit News. As a part of a settlement from a 2006 lawsuit over the dangers of the foster care system, the Children’s Services Agency agreed to make reforms to the system.

The Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

American parents are now fully awake to the indoctrination, sexualization, transgender and anti-American agenda the teacher unions, school administrators and progressive teachers educated in our university and college Schools of Education are foisting upon the nation’s K-12 children.

Remote learning through the Covid pandemic was the eye-opener for many parents and the elections in Virginia in 2021 was the initial national pushback against the threat to our children.

The radical progressive agenda now openly professed and supported by many public school teachers, their unions, and the school boards across the United States is amply demonstrated by the curriculum of critical race theory (CRT), social emotional learning (SEL), the 1619 Project, and the perverse sex education and pornographic material forced upon young American students.

‘Equity’ teaching in the form of racially dividing our children into oppressors and oppressed, the Howard Zinn teaching of hatred toward our exceptional history and progress, and the promotion of gender confusion and isolating children from parents in social teaching has strangled the basic role of educators to teach fundamental skills of reading, writing and mathematics and preparation for competent citizenship in adult life.

School board elections were once of minor interest to most Americans. Today these are critical choices every voter must make for the future of our nation, our character as Americans and the preparation of our youth to enter adult life competently with critical thinking skills and an understanding of the great fortune and responsibility of being American citizens.

Three Arizona School Board Watchdogs are Candidates for the Prescott Unified School District School Board

The Arizona School Board Watchdogs (AZSBW) was founded in June of 2021 by 26 concerned citizens whose main goal was to assist parents and guardians frustrated by school shutdowns and the draconian measures used as a “Safe Return to School Plan”. Three of those citizens are now candidates running for the three open seats on the Prescott Unified School Board. They are AZSBW chairman, Michele Hamer, and fellow co-founders, Andy Nelson, and Linda Conn.

Recently, the CDC admitted to what AZSBW and our parents were saying all along: “school guidelines to mask, social distance, test, and quarantine our kids will do more harm than good”. As we researched avenues parents could use to convince the schools to reconsider, the Watchdogs discovered these guidelines were contrary to Arizona law. We also learned that the Prescott Unified School District received $8.1 million in federal funds to pay for this Safe Return to School Plan.

Designed to be a resource for parents, the Arizona School Board Watchdogs built a website as an aggregate of Arizona laws that are sourced from and linked to Arizona’s State Legislature website that specifically impact parental rights and responsibilities. AZSBW never has or ever will give legal advice.

Let’s start with the Arizona Parental Bill of Rights, which states: all parental rights are reserved to a parent or guardian of a minor child without obstruction or interference from this state, including the right to direct the education, upbringing, moral or religious training, and make all health care decisions for their minor child. I don’t know how this could be made any clearer.

Did you know that Arizona residents subjected to quarantine or isolation have the right to due process and representation paid for by the state? That’s right, Arizona Revised Statute 36-789 guarantees that.

And where were our legislators when schools were mandating masks and vaccines? House Bill 36-1301 guarantees Arizona’s constitutional freedom of health care choice and that every person in this state may choose or decline to choose any mode of lawful health care service without penalty or threat of penalty. “Lawful health care services” means any health-related service or treatment that is permitted by law.

Michele Hamer, Andy Nelson, and Linda Conn have worked together in their “Watchdog” roles for the past 18 months helping parents learn these rights under Arizona law and know now is the time to move into a position capable of making parental rights a standard practice at Prescott Unified School District.

Every elected school board candidate is required to take the oath of office. In the oath, the candidate-elect solemnly swears or affirms they will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and laws of the state of Arizona; defend the U.S. and Arizona against all enemies, foreign and domestic; and state they will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of their office. Michele, Andy, and Linda are looking forward to the day they can take their oath and serve their community.

In addition to upholding parental rights, this “Conservative Dream Team’s” goals on the board are to return to a classical education and utilize the fundamentals that produced some of our greatest thinkers, from the Roman Empire to our Founding Fathers. They will always put the students’ education first and restore accountability. Wasteful spending on social emotional learning will be phased out and replaced by a culture that focuses on what our students can do for their country rather than what their country can do for them.

If you are concerned about the direction our public schools are taking with regard to gender identities, pronouns, sexual education, CRT and failing grades, Michele Hamer and Andy Nelson should be your choices for the 4-year seat, and Linda Conn for the 2-year seat, in the November 8th election for Prescott Unified School Board.

Project Veritas released a new video from its #SecretCurriculum series today exposing an Eighth Grade English Teacher who admits to indoctrinating children against the parents’ will with the end goal of overthrowing the American system of government.

Tyler Wrynn, who is employed by Will Rogers Middle School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, told a Veritas journalist that he fears losing his job as an educator because it could get in the way of his ideological plans for the country.

This is shocking news to most Americans that the nation’s largest teachers’ union is promoting such material to America’s children.

Recently it was discovered that these books were not only on GLSEN’s reading list but that Kevin Jennings personally promoted several of these books during his career. One of the books he promoted encouraged children to go to gay bars for sex with adults to see if they like it.

Colorado School Board Proposes Toolkit Suggesting Educators Hide Student Transitions From Parents

A Colorado school board proposed a “gender expansive” toolkit that directs educators on how to address transgender and non-binary students, including keeping gender transitions a secret from parents, according to the Post Independent.

The Roaring Fork School Board in Carbondale, Colorado, heard public comment on Wednesday with plans to vote on the toolkit on Oct. 11, according to the Post Independent. The “Toolkit for Supporting Transgender and Gender Expansive/Nonconforming Students” advises educators to keep a student’s gender identity a secret from their parents if the student wishes and to make changes to school records as they see fit.

“We previously affirmed students’ rights without yet specifying supporting practices,” Roaring Fork School District Chief Of Student And Family Services Anna Cole wrote in a memo to the board. “We have since learned the importance of providing clear guidance and programmatic support, and have heard requests from students and staff for more explicit procedures. The toolkit is our response to these requests.”

The toolkit suggests a “gender tree” to explain gender identity and calls the soil, “societal influence,” which is the way “social, cultural and institutional influence” shape “gendered individuals.” Included is “fluidity and history” as the “rings of the tree” to represent a person’s “deeply-felt sense of gender” that can expand beyond man and woman to “genderqueer and agender,” the toolkit showed.

Under the “toolkit,” educators are advised to allow students to use whichever restroom and locker room corresponds with their gender identity. On overnight trips, students should receive accommodations “on a case-by-case basis with the goals of maximizing the student’s social integration.”

“It’s one thing to identify as a gender, but quite another to compel others to use special pronouns, and to open bathrooms and locker rooms to transgender students or allow transgender students onto sports teams of the opposite sex,” a board meeting attendee said to the Post Independent. “The rights of those not identifying as transgendered are being trampled.”

In Florida, a school board implemented a sexual education curriculum that links to Planned Parenthood documents and teaches 12-year-olds “all the ways pregnancy can occur.” An Ohio school is allowing educators to wear LGBTQ badges, despite parental pushback, in an effort to show students they are allies to the community.

The Roaring Fork School Board and Roaring Fork School District did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Six Republican-led states are suing the Biden administration for allegedly overstepping executive powers related to President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.

The Biden administration unveiled its plan to partially forgive student loans for certain borrowers in August, using the HEROES Act of 2003 as precedent for the decision and arguing that the COVID-19 pandemic created an emergency situation allowing the federal government to forgive student debt. The Republican states argued that the Biden administration exceeded its statutory authority, as well as citing a “60 Minutes” interview in which Biden said the pandemic was “over” as evidence that the pandemic could not be used to justify the action, according to a press release from Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt.

“It’s patently unfair to saddle hard-working Americans with the loan debt of those who chose to go to college,” said Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge.

“The Department of Education is required, under the law, to collect the balance due on loans. And President Biden does not have the authority to override that,” she added.

The attorney generals for Iowa, Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska and South Carolina joined Missouri in filing the lawsuit. Biden’s plan, which cancels $10,000 in student loan debt for those making less than $125,000 or households with less than $250,000 in income and $20,000 for Pell grant recipients, faced another legal challenge this week from the Pacific Legal Foundation.

On Tuesday, the Sacramento legal advocacy group filed a lawsuit in Indiana claiming the student debt forgiveness was an executive overreach that would undoubtedly increase the tax burdens of Americans, the AP reported.

The White House did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Probably the most common legal argument against the Biden administration’s student loan bailout plan is that the federal Department of Education simply doesn’t have the authority to accomplish it.

That’s a core argument in a new lawsuit filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation on behalf of an employee whose student debt is affected by the bailout plan.

Putting aside the issues of unfairness, the legal arguments have always been persuasive. The challenge has been to find a plaintiff who will suffer a legally recognized injury necessary to get into court.

The Pacific Legal Foundation has found a whole group of plaintiffs.

The organization’s client, Frank Garrison, has been paying down his education debt using Public Service Loan Forgiveness, a program that will forgive his remaining debt after he makes 120 qualifying payments. He’s about halfway through. He also is using the Income-Driven Repayment program, which caps his monthly payment based on his discretionary income.

Various problems with such federal programs and loan forgiveness, in general, have been described elsewhere, but here these programs mean that Garrison would have had his loan balance zeroed out after about 60 more months, with modest payments along the way.

Now, the loan bailout would automatically cancel $20,000 of Garrison’s debt instead, subjecting him to Indiana’s income tax, while doing nothing to improve his monthly payment due to his Income-Driven Repayment participation. He will owe about $1,000 to Indiana simply because the U.S. Department of Education is changing the rules.

Since several states treat loan forgiveness the same way, there are people across all of those states in the same boat. There are probably a lot of borrowers, among the 8 million qualifying Public Service Loan Forgiveness borrowers nationwide, who also are using the Income-Driven Repayment program in these states.

That’s enough for Garrison and the others to get into court. The key point of the HEROES Act is that borrowers “are not placed in a worse position financially” in relation to their student loans because of war or other national emergencies, but the Department of Education is causing, not remedying, economic harm to people like Garrison.

That means several additional arguments get into court, too:

  • The HEROES Act, on which the Department of Education is relying for the bailout, violates the constitutional principle of separation of powers, as well as the nondelegation doctrine. That means that Congress cannot give away its legislative power to the executive branch. The law purports to give the secretary of education the power to modify or amend the law regarding repayment requirements, subject only to the conditions in the rest of the HEROES Act, violating those core constitutional principles.
  • Even if the HEROES Act were constitutional, it does not give the Department of Education the power to cancel repayment of student loans in this case. For one thing, the HEROES Act requires that the cancellation be “necessary” and targeted to economic harm that is “a direct result of a … national emergency.” But it’s not. Student loan borrowers are not, the plaintiff quite reasonably claims (quoting the law), “directly ‘affected individuals’ who ‘suffered direct economic hardship as a direct result of a war or other military operation or national emergency.’” And mass cancellation of debts is “hardly ‘necessary’ to mitigate the economic harms of the pandemic.”
  • The Department of Education’s sweeping decision includes many people who are not any worse off because of the pandemic (and probably a lot who are better off, depending what companies they work for). And for those who are worse off today than when the pandemic emergency was declared years ago, they may not be any worse off “relative to their federal student loans” or due in any way to the pandemic in the first place.
  • Even if the HEROES Act were not only constitutional but also able to sweep in such a variety of borrowers, the cancellation is so economically and politically significant that it violates the “major questions doctrine.” The U.S. Supreme Court has been using this doctrine recently in, for example, West Virginia v. EPA, which stopped the Environmental Protection Agency from (improperly) discovering a huge regulatory power in an ancillary part of environmental law.

The Department of Education is making the same error here.

The major questions doctrine,” the plaintiff notes, “requires a clear authorization by Congress of such an economically and politically significant action, which is lacking here. … Without a valid source of authority, the Secretary [of Education] ‘literally has no power to act’” (quoting a different case).

Congress gave no clue that hundreds of billions of dollars in a massive loan bailout was in the HEROES Act, because it isn’t.

Overall, the HEROES Act was never meant for massive cancellation of the obligation to pay back student loans. Furthermore, the bailout plan’s income cutoffs, its relief amounts unconnected to the pandemic emergency, and its arbitrary provision to double the relief amount if the borrower had ever received a Pell Grant (even decades ago), as I have written elsewhere, further show the Department of Education’s abuse of power—if it was properly delegated any such power in the first place.

This November, Arizonans will decide on 10 ballot measures. The Arizona Free Enterprise Club is endorsing four of these measures: Propositions 128, 129, 132, and 309. Each of these are necessary and critical to make common sense election integrity reforms and protect Arizonans from the influence of out-of-state special interests that exploit the initiative process to put bad policy on our ballots. We encourage Arizonans to vote YES.

On the other hand, Propositions 209, 211, 308, and 310 include tax hikes, programs for government to dox and harass private individuals for donating to causes they believe in, exacerbating the invasion at our border, and increasing inflation. These measures will harm Arizona families and businesses, and we encourage voters to vote NO.

The Arizona Free Enterprise Club opposes and asks Arizonans to vote NO on the following measures:

Prop 308 (VOTE NO) allows individuals residing in Arizona illegally to receive taxpayer subsidized tuition at our universities. Sold as providing in-state tuition to “DREAMERs” who have been here since they were young children, the actual language of the measure is much broader and far reaching, only requiring the person to have been in Arizona illegally for two years and graduate from an Arizona high school to receive taxpayer subsidized tuition.

Prop 310 (VOTE NO) increases the statewide sales tax by 0.1%, resulting in a nearly $200 million tax hike to fund fire districts statewide. Many of these fire districts have mismanaged their budgets, and wastefully and recklessly spent tax money in the past. Prop 310 is not the solution, as it increases taxes on all Arizonans to subsidize a few and does not include reforms to ensure responsible and accountable use of taxpayer money in the future. Prop 209 (VOTE NO) excuses people from having to pay their debt, which will increase inflation, make it harder to access credit, and shift the burden to taxpayers who do pay their bills. Funded entirely by California unions, it is sold as impacting only medical debt, but the language of the initiative actually shields all kinds of debt, not just medical. Learn more here.

Prop 211 (VOTE NO) requires private organizations to disclose donors to the government if they spend more than a certain amount in any given election, violating the constitutional right to privacy and association so that government can target, harass, and dox their political opponents. Unsurprisingly, the measure exempts Big Tech, the media, and labor unions from these same disclosure regulations. Learn more here.

Gays Against Groomers Get Financially Deplatformed

This is how soft totalitarianism works: no gulags, no jail time, just being excluded from the marketplace. We are rapidly approaching the point where one may not buy or sell without permission of the Regime.

This is also how soft totalitarianism works: the “Regime” is not the State alone, as in the earlier iteration of totalitarianism. It is rather the informal coalition of elites in government, media, finance, academia, and private industry (Yarvin’s term “the Cathedral” is also good) who share the same illiberal left-wing convictions, and act in concert. It is Venmo’s and PayPal’s right to do what they’re doing. But the effect is bad for democracy.

It’s like with Amazon, when it decided not to sell Ryan T. Anderson’s book critical of transgender ideology, and similarly-themed books. It’s Amazon’s right –– but if Amazon, with its dominant market share of the book market, decides that it will not sell a certain kind of book, then that kind of book will not be published.

It’s entirely legal. Do you want a system in which a bookseller is forced to sell books he finds immoral? I don’t. But in Amazon’s case, making a fully legal decision has dramatic consequences of freedom of speech and debate.

I don’t know how this should work, in terms of legislation to solve the problem of financial deplatforming. But this is an issue conservative, libertarian, and authentically liberal politicians should start talking about –– and, when workable policies and laws present themselves, then acting on them. If not, people who dissent from the Regime’s ideology will find themselves more and more driven to the margins, and forced through non-violent means to comply.

This week, I virtually attended “The ESG Leadership Forum 2022” co-hosted by the Wall Street Journal Trust and Nasdaq. Panel discussions covered everything from accelerating the energy transition to how to model climate risks into climate strategy to getting to net-zero with tips on how to “actually deliver” on ESG promises.

Speakers earned an “A+” in leadership lingo and managerial theory, but a big “F” in reality. There was a creative high point where win-win was reimagined as wind-wind to describe one company’s “winning” approach to wind energy. (Get it?) In their defense, it is winning from the C-suite perspective. These companies are guaranteed to reap the benefits of government-backed dividends promised by President Biden through trillions of mismanaged taxpayer dollars. 

In reality, however, we the taxpayers will be stuck with the consequences of the ESG movement, and, most notably, the “path to net-zero,” which is both damaging and delusional. It is behind efforts to shutter reliable and affordable energy—mainly coal, oil, and natural gas—and replace it with less reliable, more expensive alternatives. The arbitrary deadlines to reach this goal are forcing the early closure of energy sources without adequately replacing them. As a result, our degraded energy grid now regularly delivers blackouts and brownouts, especially during heat waves and cold snaps when we the regular people consume it the most. This isn’t because of climate change. It can be attributed to poor planning and blind allegiance to ESG principles that constantly overpromise and underdeliver.  

As Team Biden implements its whole-of-the-government effort to shutter U.S. oil and natural gas, ESG investing is maximizing its effect. Government-mandated red tape, coupled with leasing bans, has increased operating costs. At the same time, ESG investors are limiting access to the very capital these companies need to upgrade, expand, and ultimately keep up. The resulting oil market imbalance of suppressed supply is the leading reasonfor the high costs we pay at the pump. The strained natural gas supply, which accounts for 37% of electricity production, has led to the largest 12-month increase in over 40 years and is why one in six families is now behind on utility bills. 

Adding insult to injury, this will have no impact on the climate. Some reports found that a net-zero U.S. would reduce temperatures by only 0.137 degrees in 2100. Recall that a warming temperature is the purported key driver of the change these financial gurus are fighting. 

The real problem is that these ESG elites are in charge of trillions of dollars of investments and their decisions—even the damaging and delusional ones—have a broad reach. They should not be celebrated, but rather held to account—starting with the fire-fire approach. (See what I did there?)
