Meet a Disinformation Agent for a Mexican Cartel thumbnail

Meet a Disinformation Agent for a Mexican Cartel

By Phillip Linderman

Horrific violence wielded by transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) has sadly become part of Mexico’s reality, as is the use of threats and bribes to corrupt ministers, businessmen, governors, and even journalists. Sometimes, however, Mexican cartel tactics can be more subtle, using propaganda and targeted information to change policies by influencing public opinion.

For example, Raymundo Ramos, who cleverly presents himself as a “human rights activist” in northern Mexico, is in fact a disinformation agent of Cartel del Noreste (CDN), the ruthless TCO that controls the Nuevo Laredo region directly across from Laredo, Texas. Ramos’s actual agenda has very little to do with human rights, but everything to do with discrediting Mexico’s armed forces in the court of public opinion. His criminal sponsors know that the more the Mexican military is operationally hampered, the better CDN can conduct its illicit business: smuggling migrants and illegal drugs into the United States.

Ramos has accused the military of human rights violations and spying abuses, propelling himself into Mexico’s national debate about the role of that country’s armed forces in the fight against transnational organized crime. He has managed to gain a platform even with the international media—such as the New York Times, the Economist, and the Washington Post—whose editors appear unaware or unconcerned about Ramos’s alleged links to Cartel del Noreste. Evidently, calls to respect human rights wash away all sins—including allegedly being on the payroll of a cartel.

When I served as U.S. Consul General in Nuevo Laredo (2015–18), my duties included maintaining contact with a wide range of officials, leaders, and activists. Most were concerned Mexicans simply trying to navigate a dangerous and lawless border region. Some were patriots, bravely working on behalf of their country in difficult times (cartel agents tragically killed at least three of these contacts during my time there—RIP). Still others, including Ramos, were unsavory characters who signed up with the cartel because of bribes, threats, or both.

I met twice with Ramos to assess his activities. He hardly disguised his disdain for Mexican security institutions, and it was widely assumed by my other sources that Ramos took orders and clandestine financial support from the local cartel. Yes, it is true that “proving” someone’s links to a criminal cartel without drawing on confidential information is difficult, but as we will see, the release of a Mexican classified communication intercept provides the smoking gun in the case against Ramos.

To understand his rise, it is necessary to examine embattled Nuevo Laredo, Mexico’s main crossing point for trade entering the United States. The CDN—infamously known as Los Zetas before later restructuring itself—has been one of the most bloodthirsty cartels in Mexico. Like others of its ilk in Mexico, CDN controls the local media, buys politicians, extracts protection money from businesses, and even arranges a cut of legitimate trade transported into the United States.

As I learned in encounters with parish priests, CDN agents even keep tabs on the Catholic Church and the few philanthropic NGOs that dare to work in Nuevo Laredo’s marginalized urban areas. The cartel wants to ensure that its own “charitable” activities, designed to buy supporters in these poor neighborhoods and shanty towns, are not surpassed by outsiders. These areas are considered so dangerous that USAID keeps them off-limits for American aid workers. Drawing on classic Maoist guerrilla strategy, cartel operatives “swim” in these dispossessed communities, recruiting new foot soldiers, establishing operational sanctuaries, and gaining legitimacy against the Mexican state.

With their emphasis on this kind of corrosive “soft” power, it is little wonder that CDN strategists run their own “human rights” NGO and can even succeed in placing their own operative on Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission (Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos). This is exactly how Ramos emerged, from nowhere, to propel himself into Mexico’s national discussion about the role of the armed forces and the country’s intelligence gathering against criminals.

As Mexico City has increasingly relied on the military to battle the cartels, experts have rightly cautioned that soldiers and marines are not trained for and should not be assigned policing duties, but the authorities have no other choice in places like Nuevo Laredo where law enforcement long ago became guerrilla war. One important reason the army and marines have had some success against cartels, in addition to their combat firepower, is that disciplined military units are difficult for TCO agents to penetrate.

While cartels can corrupt and even outright destroy many police and judicial institutions, the Mexican army (known also by its acronym SEDENA) and marines (SEMAR) are much harder targets. Thus, discrediting the Mexican armed forces through the use of negative reports, particularly based on accusations of committing atrocities, is an invaluable TCO guerrilla tactic; and as the Ramos story illustrates, it is a tool that functions well in a society in which many elite opinion-makers already harbor deep suspicion of the country’s military.

Ramos’s main method is to direct outside media to every accusation against the military while completely ignoring the cartel’s bloody guerrilla warfare tactics. In the early 2000s, the Mexican military high command sent elite marines into Nuevo Laredo to conduct a kind of urban counterinsurgency against the cartel; small army units have also been deployed in the region for years. While the counterinsurgency strategy made sense, how much long-term success the campaign had is unclear because the military never deployed sufficient troops to gain the initiative.

In the ensuing bloody encounters, regrettable human rights violations were surely committed. No one can excuse abuses perpetrated by the military, but the incidents, then and now, point to panicky troops in tense situations, and not instructions from commanders to employ such measures systematically.

Outside journalists, directed by Ramos, typically report on killed cartel operatives, often presenting them as innocents and focusing on their grieving family members. Some victims are no doubt innocent, but in all this tragedy, survivors almost never publicly denounce cartel atrocities to the media, rightly fearing TCO reprisals. Despite the military’s mistakes, almost all the citizens of Nuevo Laredo I encountered privately applauded the marines and army because they were at least fighting for the security of the city.

With media reporting fed by activists like Ramos, SEMAR operations in Nuevo Laredo came under national scrutiny. By 2021, Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission, where Ramos was and is a member, had investigated atrocity and torture accusations, helping to orchestrate political pressure that led to criminal charges being brought against thirty marines. To what extent marine operations actually ran roughshod over due process is still being litigated, and will likely never be known given Mexico’s dysfunctional court system. Meanwhile, CDN’s hold over the Nuevo Laredo region has only increased, abetted by the Biden administration’s open border policies and the insatiable American appetite for illicit narcotics.

Two tragic incidents, one in July 2020 and another in February 2023, launched Ramos on a renewed PR campaign to discredit the army. The facts are contentious, but they indicate that Mexican soldiers, who function constantly in a tense security environment, wrongfully killed persons who were innocent or not explicitly linked to CDN. Beyond the human tragedy of these unfortunate killings, the result has been to hand Ramos yet another public-relations cudgel to argue for the army’s withdrawal from its security role in Nuevo Laredo, or at least to put SEDENA under intense scrutiny, all giving more operational space for CDN.

Ramos’s PR campaign against the army has now been underway for several years. Sadly, stories of brutal killings are commonplace across Mexico, but with time and persistence, Ramos has steadily gained attention, eventually hitting paydirt with American journalists (see the New York Times April 7 report) and international human rights groups. Ramos even managed to put his case before the United Nations, which recently called for a “diligent, prompt and impartial investigation” into military actions in Nuevo Laredo. The UN expresses little concern about cartel brutality.

It was when Ramos accused the Mexican armed forces of spying on him, and by extension on all their political adversaries, that he truly struck propaganda gold. Ramos charged that the military was surveilling him and other critics through the use of illegal spyware called Pegasus, designed to clandestinely monitor cell phone and electronic communication.

Ramos’s spying charges have become a cause célèbre among the country’s left-leaning journalist-intellectual class, with their permanent distrust of the Mexican military. These intellectuals are generally supportive of Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (known as AMLO). But when the president broke ranks and basically defended the armed forces against Ramos, this influential class, well-connected internationally, felt betrayed.

Once famous for his slogan “hugs, not bullets,” AMLO indicated during his presidential campaign that he would rein in the armed forces in their fight against TCOs, while also curtailing alleged abuses such as the army spying on its political opponents. But after more than four years in office, frustrated daily by the destruction and death that TCOs are unleashing on Mexico, AMLO appears to have somewhat changed his tune.

Last year, for example, the president basically abandoned his proposed anti-cartel strategy, which had been centered on the creation of a new independent national guard; after disappointing results, AMLO transferred the national guard under the military high command. Despite critics’ charges that the military has too much power, AMLO increasingly appears to have realized that only the country’s armed forces can prevent Mexico from descending even further into TCO chaos.

Under pressure, AMLO has responded to the spying charges against the military, distinguishing between political spying and intelligence gathering against criminal suspects. Revealingly, at one recent press conference, the president carried out a pre-planned exchange with a friendly journalist, Carlos Dominguez, to turn the tables on Ramos.

AMLO called on the journalist to play live a recorded clip in which Ramos is heard colluding in a phone conversation with a cartel leader. Using his bully pulpit, the president made sure the recording, apparently first leaked in 2019, got wide exposure and helped communicate to his countrymen and journalists exactly who Ramos is—far from an authentic human rights activist, but an actual criminal suspect.

Predictably, the international media gave the accusations of human rights abuses and illegal spying much more coverage than they did the exposure of Ramos at AMLO’s press conference. The best the New York Times could do in acknowledging Ramos’ dodgy background was to report on March 7, “The military’s intelligence report said Mr. Ramos had ‘links’ to a Mexican cartel and would benefit financially from discrediting the armed forces.” Nothing else the Gray Lady reported even hinted at Ramos’s CDN connections.

What a depressing journalistic standard. As our proud southern neighbor struggles for national survival—a fight that has huge implications for the United States—the international media’s reporting on events in Nuevo Laredo reveals yet again an ideological unwillingness to present the full story. Instead, these journalists are sadly comfortable acting as mouthpieces for a paid agent of a criminal cartel.

It is no wonder that Americans have little understanding of the true human rights and public safety situation in Mexico. The country is defending itself not merely from organized crime, but from a highly sophisticated, insurgent combat force employing guerrilla warfare tactics. It is the TCOs that by far have committed the most atrocities and threaten the right of Mexicans to live in a peaceful, functioning country.

Man Accused Of Murdering Five ‘Execution Style’ Was Previously-Deported Illegal Immigrant, ICE Says

By The Daily Caller

The shooter who allegedly murdered five individuals, including an 8-year-old child, in “execution style” killings Friday immigrated to the U.S. illegally, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesperson confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation

The suspect, Mexican national Francisco Oropesa Perez-Torres, 38, was previously ordered to be removed by an immigration judge on March 16, 2009, ICE said. ICE removed him on March 17, 2009, the spokesperson said.

Oropesa Perez-Torres is currently at large after being accused of murdering five of his neighbors, Sonia Argentina Guzman, 25; Daniel Enrique Laso Guzman, 8; Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31 and Jose Jonathan Casarez, 18.

Oropesa Perez-Torres returned to the U.S. illegally at an unknown time and location, ICE said. He was arrested and removed by ICE in September 2009, January 2012 and July 2016.

The suspect was also sentenced to jail time for driving while intoxicated in January 2012, according to ICE.

The Cold Spring Texas Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for Oropesa Perez-Torres’ arrest for homicide. He is also wanted by the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s office for the shooting.

The shooting occurred Friday evening when neighbor Wilson Garcia asked Oropesa Perez-Torres to stop shooting his rifle so his baby could sleep, according to The New York Times (NYT). Oropesa Perez-Torres then allegedly walked to Garcia’s home and fatally shot Garcia’s wife, son and the three other victims with his AR-15 before fleeing.

The Government’s Sprawling Effort to Censor (True) Information During the Pandemic thumbnail

The Government’s Sprawling Effort to Censor (True) Information During the Pandemic

By Jon Miltimore

In July 2022, Twitter permanently suspended Rhode Island physician Andrew Bostom after awarding the epidemiologist and longtime researcher at Brown University a fifth strike for spreading “misinformation.”

A July 26 tweet alleging that there was no solid evidence Covid-19 vaccines had prevented any children from being hospitalized—”only RCT data we have from children reveals ZERO hospitalizations prevented by vaccination vs. placebo”—was apparently the final straw.

The funny thing was, it appeared Bostom’s tweet was true.

Dr. Anish Koka, a cardiologist and writer, said he was initially skeptical of Bostom’s claim. But after speaking with him for more than an hour, he realized Bostom was citing the government’s own data, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) briefing document that included randomized controlled trial (RCT) data on children.

“…Dr. Bostom’s tweet appears quite correct as per the FDA documents,” Koka wrote on Substack. “In the RCTs available, there does not appear to be evidence that the vaccine prevented hospitalizations.”

‘They Veered From CDC Guidance’

Bostom’s permanent suspension was one of many anecdotes shared by journalist David Zweig in a December Twitter Files thread viewed by more than 64 million people, which exposed how the government worked with Twitter to try to “rig the Covid debate.”

It turns out this was not the only one of Bostom’s tweets that was true but was nevertheless flagged for “misinformation.”

“A review of Twitter log files revealed that an internal audit, conducted after Bostom’s attorney contacted Twitter, found that only 1 of Bostom’s 5 violations were valid,” Zweig notes. “The one Bostom tweet found to still be in violation cited data that was legitimate but inconvenient to the public health establishment’s narrative about the risks of flu versus Covid in children.”

In other words, all five of Bostom’s tweets that had been flagged as “misinformation” were legitimate. At the very least, four-out-of-five were, and that’s according to Twitter’s own internal audit.

How this happened was partially explored by Zweig, who explained Twitter’s convoluted censorship process, which relied heavily on bots, contractors in foreign countries who lacked the expertise to make informed decisions, and Twitter brass who carried their own biases and incentives. This structure led to a predictable result.

“In my review of internal files,” writes Zweig, “I found countless instances of tweets labeled as ‘misleading’ or taken down entirely, sometimes triggering account suspensions, simply because they veered from CDC guidance or differed from establishment views.”

The CDC had effectively become the arbiter of truth.

This is alarming for at least two reasons. First, for anyone familiar with the government’s track record on truth, there’s reason to be skeptical of putting any government agency in charge of deciding what is true and false. Second, the CDC has been, to put it kindly, fallible throughout the pandemic. Indeed, the agency has been plagued with so much dysfunction and made so many crucial mistakes that its own director announced less than a year ago the organization needed an overhaul.

So there’s some reason to believe that Bostom and people like him—including epidemiologists like Dr. Martin Kuldorff (formerly of Harvard) and mRNA vaccine creator Dr. Robert Malone—were being suspended, banned, and de-amplified simply because Twitter was poorly situated to determine what was true and what was false.

There’s reason to doubt this claim, however.

‘Worrisome Jokes,’ ‘Natural Immunity,’ and Other ‘Potential Violations’

Months after Zweig published his report on the Twitter Files, journalist Matt Taibbi published a separate deep dive exploring the Virality Project, an initiative launched by Stanford University’s Cyber Policy Center.

The project, which Taibbi described as “a sweeping, cross-platform effort to monitor billions of social media posts by Stanford University, federal agencies, and a slew of (often state-funded) NGOs,” is noteworthy because officials made it clear that a goal was not just to flag false information, but information that was true but inconvenient to the government’s goals. Reports of “vaccinated individuals contracting Covid-19 anyway,” “worrisome jokes,” and “natural immunity” were all characterized as “potential violations,” as were conversations “interpreted to suggest that coronavirus might have leaked from a lab.”

In what Taibbi describes as “a pan-industry monitoring plan for Covid-related content,” the Virality Project began analyzing millions of posts each day from platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Medium, TikTok, and other social media sites, which were submitted through the JIRA ticketing system. On February 22, 2021, in a video no longer public, Stanford welcomed social media leaders to the group and offered instruction on how to join the JIRA system.

In contrast to Twitter’s previous internal guidance, which required narratives on Covid-19 to be “demonstrably false” before any censorship actions were taken, the Virality Project made it clear that information that was true was also fair game if it undermined the larger aims of the government and the Virality Project.

Specifically noted were “true stories that could fuel [vaccine] hesitancy,” personal testimonials about adverse side effects of vaccination, concerns over vaccine passports, and actual deaths of people following vaccination, such as Drene Keyes.

As NBC noted in 2021, Keyes, a 58-year-old black woman, died after receiving the Pfizer vaccine in February 2021. Described as an “elderly Black woman” by the Virality Project, Keyes’s death became a “disinformation” event after it garnered attention from “anti vax groups”—even though no one denied that she died within hours of taking the vaccine.

No autopsy was conducted on Keyes and there’s no way of knowing if the vaccine caused her death. But merely raising the possibility could have resulted in a ban. Officials at the Virality Project warned platforms that “just asking questions”—at least the wrong questions—was a tactic “commonly used by spreaders of misinformation.”

Ironically, Taibbi notes, the Virality Project itself was often “extravagantly wrong” about Covid science, describing breakthrough events as “extremely rare events” (a fact it later conceded was wrong) and implying that natural immunity did not offer protection from Covid.

“Even in its final report, [the Virality Project] claimed it was misinformation to suggest the vaccine does not prevent transmission, or that governments are planning to introduce vaccine passports,” Taibbi writes. “Both things turned out to be true.”

‘You Can’t Handle the Truth’

It’s clear that the Virality Project’s primary purpose was not to protect Americans from misinformation. Its goal, as Taibbi notes, was to get the public to submit to authority and accept the state’s Covid narrative, particularly the pronouncements of public figures such as Drs. Anthony Fauci and Rochelle Walensky.

The official policy can be summed up in the immortal words of Colonel Nathan Jessup, the villain portrayed by Jack Nicholson in Aaron Sorkin’s popular 1992 film A Few Good Men: “You can’t handle the truth.”

It’s important to understand that public officials, just like Col. Jessup, genuinely believe this. Jessup utters these words in anger in a wonderful monologue, after he is baited by Lt. Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise) into telling the court how he really feels. Similarly, the Twitter Files reveal a program designed to control information—even true information—because it serves the state’s plan.

The last word—plan—is important, because it calls to mind Ludwig von Mises’s warning about those seeking to plan society.

“The planner is a potential dictator who wants to deprive all other people of the power to plan and act according to their own plans,” Mises wrote. “He aims at one thing only: the exclusive absolute preeminence of his own plan.”

‘Sometimes They Are Five’

Mises’ words apply perfectly to the Virality Project, a program designed specifically to get people to submit to the government’s narrative and objectives, not their own. The preeminence of the plan is so important that it requires censoring information and targeting individuals—as the Virality Project did—even if it’s true.

It’s difficult to overstate how Orwellian this is.

In Orwell’s classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, Winston Smith, the protagonist of the story, says, “Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two makes four.”

Absent any context, the quote doesn’t make much sense. But it’s important to understand that Orwell saw statism and politics as forces destructive to the truth. His own brushes with state propaganda during the Spanish Civil War left him terrified that objective truth was “fading out of the world,” and he saw the state as inherently prone to obfuscation and euphemism (regardless of party).

“Political language,” he wrote, “is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.”

Within the context of Nineteen Eighty-Four, the meaning of Winston Smith’s words becomes crystal clear. Saying “two plus two makes four” might be an objective truth, but sometimes objective truth runs counter to Big Brother’s plan. Winston Smith is a slow learner, state agents tell him, because he can’t seem to grasp this simple reality.

“How can I help it? How can I help but see what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four.”

“Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder.”

Many people who lived through the Covid-19 pandemic likely can identify with the terror of Nineteen Eighty-Four and Orwell’s fear that objective truth is “fading out of the world.” We witnessed public officials say things that were demonstrably false and face no consequences, while Andrew Bostom and countless others were exiled from public discourse because they said things that were true, but ran counter to the state’s narrative.

Fortunately, in large part because of Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, we now know how this happened.

“Government, academia, and an oligopoly of would-be corporate competitors organized quickly behind a secret, unified effort to control political messaging,” Taibbi writes.

All of it was designed to control information. And in doing so, the state—which actually attempted to create a “Disinformation Governance Board,” which critics promptly dubbed a Ministry of Truth—created an environment hostile to free speech and truth.

Ironically, despite the egregious abuse delivered upon the truth over the last three years in the name of fighting “misinformation,” polls show roughly half of Americans believe social media companies should be censoring such material from their sites. Few seem to realize this will almost certainly involve those with influence and power—especially the government—deciding who and what are censored.

This is a recipe for disaster. History shows there’s no greater purveyor of falsehood and propaganda than the government itself. The Twitter Files are a reminder of that.

2 of Joey Borgen’s attackers plead guilty on hate crime charges for 2021 beating

by Jacob Henry, New York Jewish Week, April 26, 2023:

Two men pled guilty this week for attacking Joey Borgen, a Jewish man who was severely beaten in 2021 while walking to a pro-Israel rally in Manhattan.

Waseem Awawdeh, one of five men who punched, kicked, pepper-sprayed and beat Borgen with crutches, pled guilty on Tuesday for attempted assault in the second degree as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. The Manhattan district attorney’s office confirmed his plea to the New York Jewish Week. It was first reported by Jewish Insider.

The beating, which took place amid a spike in antisemitism surrounding Israel’s 2021 war with Hamas in Gaza, drew national attention. And the court battle that followed led to criticism from activists in the city’s Jewish community that District Attorney Alvin Bragg was being too lenient with Awawdeh. Earlier this month, Borgen’s father, Barry, was invited by the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee to testify at a hearing in New York City on Bragg and violent crime in Manhattan.

Awawdeh will serve a total of 18 months in jail, and will be sentenced on June 13, Bragg’s office said. That includes 12 months for the attempted assault charge, and six months for the criminal possession charge, to be served consecutively.

Another defendant, Faisal Elezzi, pled guilty to attempted assault in the third degree as a hate crime on Monday. He will be sentenced on June 8 to three years’ probation and is required to continue compliance with anti-bias programming. Both Awawdeh and Elezzi were required to make a public apology.

Awawdeh’s sentence is longer than a six-month plea deal Bragg had reportedly offered him months ago, which had spurred backlash from Borgen, his family and Jewish activist groups, which demanded a longer sentence.

But Borgen told the New York Jewish Week that he still is not “happy about” the sentences, which he believes should be harsher. He pointed to a report that Awawdeh had said he would “do it again.”

Borgen was wearing a yarmulke while heading to a pro-Israel rally, the same day Hamas and Israel announced a ceasefire after 11 days of conflict, when he was attacked on the street in Midtown on May 20, 2021 by five people, including Awawdeh and Elezzi. Awawdeh also yelled “dirty Jew” while beating Borgen, who was sent to the hospital and needed surgery on his wrist….

The Threat of a Super-EMP thumbnail

The Threat of a Super-EMP

By Amil Imani

It’s a staggering prediction, something reminiscent of a post-apocalyptic, mega-disaster movie that has the winnowing characters scavenging for anything they can in a desperate search for water and food. But this is no movie, and it isn’t fiction. This frightening estimate has the consensus of the U.S. government, well-known, pro-electric-grid “protectionists” screaming into the winds of congressional resistance, and a number of think tanks that follow this issue closely.

Peter Pry, a former CIA analyst and executive director of the congressionally chartered EMP Commission shared the estimate with Newsmax:

“‘Within 12 months of an EMP attack or a massive solar flare between two-thirds to 90 percent of the U.S. population would perish’ from lack of electricity, Pry said, quoting the conclusions from the EMP Commission’s two public reports.”

That’s well beyond a stunning and chilling augury, one that should make Congress take the threat so seriously that it puts aside all else and acts immediately to protect our electric grid. But so far—and we’ve known about the effects of this weapon since the Starfish Prime nuclear test in 1962—it hasn’t generated the kind of legislation that would help prevent an extinction-level event.

In this, second of two articles about the threat, we discuss how the threat comes from the detonation of a Super-EMP device 300 miles in our exo-atmosphere and right over the center of the United States. Because a Super-EMP is an EMP “device” as opposed to a conventional nuclear weapon, the nuclear yield is far less, while its load of gamma rays is far greater. That is what makes it so utterly destructive. The damage caused by the E1 pulse to our electric infrastructure is complete, long-lasting (a decade or more), and incalculable cost-wise. It’s the aftermath of the impact that would open the door wide to the grim reaper carrying an enormous, razor-sharp scythe, especially for city and suburban dwellers.

The gamma rays focused on the center of the country radiate out horizontally, not into the ground. They then form a circular impact on the nation’s entire electric grid depending on its altitude (300 miles up seems optimum).  The E1 wave is an extremely fast electrical pulse that will take out objects dependent upon electrical conductivity, such as many cars (save for those manufactured before 1974), most of the technological gadgets to which we are addicted, and, unfortunately, far too many military assets that will be useless after the attack. Importantly, greater damage is done to such targets when they are powered on at the time the pulse hits the earth.

The truly existential threat of a Super-EMP attack on the U.S. comes courtesy of North Korea, a disgruntled and paranoid rogue state that has been trading nuclear secrets with Iran in a mutual pact to destroy us. As we pointed out in Part One of these two articles, Iran has pulled a brilliant end run around Obama, Kerry, and the P5+1, and is reported to have a base just south of the Chinese border.

Kim Jong Un harbors schizophrenic delusions, chief among them is his belief that an imminent attack is coming from the U.S. and South Korea. Kim, likely with Iran nuclear physicists standing beside him, tested what may have been a hydrogen-based Super-EMP on January 6 of this year. Evidence of its highly efficient and destructive power came in just three words from North Korean news broadcasts. Their experts contend that they will destroy us, “all at once.”

All at once? The phrase struck us like an epiphanic sledgehammer when we read the story on Breitbart:

“In a commentary feature on its website, North Korea’s state media outlet boasted that its nation’s scientists are in ‘high spirits’ to detonate nuclear weapons capable of destroying America ‘all at once.’”

No nuclear or any other kind of attack could destroy the entire country “all at once” except a Super-EMP with the core component being hydrogen. A thermonuclear bomb is 1,000 times more powerful than the strongest conventional nuclear weapon. But the North Koreans were not acting on their own and the yield from the test was minimized.

At first, the reports from those testing air samples in the area claimed that it wasn’t a hydrogen bomb test. However, retesting had scientists saying that there was evidence of elements decidedly hydrogen in origin, but it was not a major thermonuclear bomb. So what was tested?

We realized when that question arose that the test hadn’t been of a full-blown hydrogen bomb, but a far smaller thermonuclear device that would serve as a Super-EMP weapon possibly developed by the North Koreans and the Iranians working together.

That degree of evil-axis cooperation brings a wintry chill up and down the spines of those of us who have studied this threat in depth. Those doing all they can to get Congress to take action on this issue include R. James Woolsey, ex-CIA director, and Peter Vincent Pry, who established the EMP Task Force, a site where you’ll find a map detailing the EMP threat from North Korea.

The video highlights how North Korea’s KSM-3 satellite  (already circling the globe) has, “the capability to deliver a small nuclear warhead to intercontinental ranges–against any nation on Earth.” It’s small enough to put into a faux satellite. The KSM-3 already passes over the U.S. from south to north, instead of west to east. That’s due in part to the absence of a strong missile defense system protecting our southern flank.

There are many other experts worthy of mention, in particular, Frank Gaffney, author of Guilty Knowledge, a book that highlights the U.S. government’s knowledge of the vulnerability of the grid, but willfully neglects to address the threat.

Rep. Trent Franks (R-A.Z.), a member of Congress has been tireless in his efforts to pass a number of bills to fix the problem. He has carried the torch to illuminate the issue in Congress numerous times, including his introduction of HR 2417, the Secure High-Voltage Infrastructure for Electricity from Lethal Damage Act (Shield Act), which has stalled in the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

The cost to protect the grid is modest at $20 to $30 billion. But there’s an added problem. Some 3,200 utility companies who would have to cooperate are risk averse to pass the cost onto ratepayers. If they did so, the actual cost would be $3.30 per month, according to the Testimony of George H. Baker before the Joint Hearing on “The EMP Threat: The State of Preparedness against the Threat of an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Event” May 13, 2015. Considering the nature of the threat, that’s a tiny price for a huge problem. A story published by The Hill explains the difficulty of getting serious legislative action to the president’s desk.

A Super-EMP attack or a cyber-attack that removes the grid is extremely serious. It’s made all the more so because the North Koreans are about to test-launch another missile. They could very easily be launching a new satellite, this one carrying a Super-EMP device, in which case, if it is detonated over the center of the country, it could leave us in the dark “all at once” for as long as a decade or more.

The French Evacuate Americans From Sudan. Biden Won’t. thumbnail

The French Evacuate Americans From Sudan. Biden Won’t.

By Jihad Watch

America is back!

Afghanistan was not a one-off. Leaving Americans behind enemy lines has become the new normal.

“It is not our standard procedure to evacuate American citizens living abroad,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Friday.

Now the media is tentatively pointing out that most other countries, from the UK and France, to India and Italy are evacuating their people. America stands alone in disgracefully refusing to do so. And that’s entirely on Biden.

Despite a number of nations evacuating their citizens, the US government has continued to say that the conditions are not conducive to a civilian evacuation. All US government personnel were evacuated in a military operation this weekend. US officials have said they are in “close communication” with US citizens and “actively facilitating” their departure from Sudan.

Is this an impeachable offense? If not, maybe it ought to be.

Exhausted and terrified, Americans and other foreign nationals have been struggling to escape the fighting in Sudan, cramming into crowded port terminals, squeezing onto filthy buses and begging strangers for a ride to an airport in a desperate bid to reach safety…

By contrast, Britain, France and Germany have sent airplanes to Sudan to help evacuate their citizens, and other countries, such as India, have organized convoys to Port Sudan on the Red Sea.

An American engineer said he had been searching fruitlessly for four days for a ride, after the tires of his car were shot out, in an effort to leave the country with his four U.S. citizen siblings, including two adolescent sisters, and his elderly British mother. Artillery and missile fire have been exploding around them, and the girls were scared, he said.

“No one wants to come to my area. … The shooting is heavy and next to us there is looting,” said the engineer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect his privacy. “They could at least give us guidelines or instructions on the safe routes to take and a pickup point.”

A few Americans have made it onto flights run by European allies out of an airfield 13 miles north of Khartoum. The French, for instance, have taken at least 500 people of 41 nationalities. Photographs from the airfield show burly European soldiers in body armor guarding exhausted families.

America is back! Finally, the adults are in charge. And that means abandoning Americans while leaving it to the French to evacuate them.

Here Are The 18 Democrats and 1 Republican Who Voted Against Honoring U.S. Ties With The Jewish State

By The Geller Report

The Democrats have resurrected the Nazi party.

By: Fern Sidman, The Jewish Voice:

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and 18 House Democrats on Tuesday voted against a resolution that honored the U.S.-Israeli relationship on Israel’s 75th Independence Day and expressed support for expanding and strengthening the Abraham Accords — the 2020 agreement establishing diplomatic ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, as was reported by TheHill.com.

Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO), the lead sponsor of the resolution, said in a statement following the vote that the “bipartisan passage of this resolution reaffirms our commitment to the people of Israel and promotes vital security assistance so they can defend themselves in the face of an increasingly aggressive Iran,” JewishInsider.com reported.

sponsors of the legislation.

Rep. Kathy Manning (R-NC), Mike McCaul (R-TX) and Brad Schneider (D-IL) were original co-sponsors of the legislation.

The resolution — which had bipartisan sponsorship — cleared the chamber in a 401-19 vote, the Hill reported. Massie, who frequently votes against legislation pertaining to international matters, was the only Republican to oppose the measure.

The Hill reported that in a statement, Massie said, “Ultimately it didn’t make sense for me to vote for a bill that praises the foreign aid that I’ve voted against for the past ten years.”

He was joined by 18 Democrats, 17 of whom are members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the Hill reported. Progressives who voted against the measure included Reps. Jamaal Bowman (N.Y.), Cori Bush (Mo.), Andre Carson (Ind.), Mark DeSaulnier (Calif.), Jesús “Chuy” García (Ill.), Raúl Grijalva (Ariz.), Jared Huffman (Calif.), Pramila Jayapal (Wash.), Hank Johnson (Ga.), Summer Lee (Pa.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Mark Pocan (Wis.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), Delia Ramirez (Ill.), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) and Nydia Velázquez (N.Y.), as was reported by The Hill.

Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.), who is not a member of the Progressive Caucus, also opposed the resolution.

A statement issued by a group including several high-ranking Democrats — and Manning and Schneider — raised concerns about the resolution text, specifically its omission of support for a two-state solution, according to the report on the JewishInsider.com web site.

The statement read: “Unlike previous resolutions honoring Israel’s birthday and achievements, this resolution, principally drafted by Republicans, broke the longstanding bipartisan tradition of acknowledging the importance of achieving a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians. However, the strong bipartisan vote on the resolution was an important opportunity for the House to formally express our support for Israel as we have on similar occasions in the past.”

Signatories to the statement included Reps. Greg Meeks (D-NY), Jerry Nadler (D-NY), Dean Phillips (D-MN), Jamie Raskin (D-MD), David Cicilline (D-RI), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), Manning and Schneider, as was reported by JewishInsider.com.

Following the vote, the left-wing organization, J Street, urged congressional offices to sign onto a new letter by Raskin and Anna Eshoo (D-CA) criticizing Israeli judicial reform efforts and expressing support for the Israeli protest movement, according to an email communication from J Street to congressional staffers that was obtained by Jewish Insider.

Jamaal Bowman, who voted against the resolution, is a House member who represents parts of the Bronx and Westchester in New York. He had unseated longtime incumbent Rep. Elliot Engel several years ago. Jewish Insider reported that Bowman voted in favor of the Iron Dome missile defense system funding for Israel but faced intense pushback from the Democratic Socialists of America for that vote and for traveling to Israel, and has since adopted a more critical stance toward the U.S.-Israel relationship and the Abraham Accords.

Also voting against the resolution were freshman legislators Lee and Ramirez, who are new additions to the growing number of Democrats that have been the most critical of Israeli policies, the JewishInsider.com reported.

Ocasio-Cortez voted “present” on the Iron Dome bill but later expressed regret for not voting against it, and has otherwise been critical of Israel during her tenure, according to the JewishInsider.com report, Johnson also voted present on the Iron Dome bill.

The JewishInsider.com also reported that DeSaulnier co-sponsored McCollum’s 2021 bill calling for restrictions on aid to Israel and urged the administration to attempt to block the evictions of Palestinians in the Masafer Yatta area in the Judea and Samaria region of Israel. But he also co-sponsored the Israel Relations Normalization Act, which called for the U.S. to support the expansion and deepening of the Abraham Accords. In a 2021 Fox News interview, the JewishInsider.com reported. DeSaulnier described Israel as a “thriving democracy” and said he is “very supportive of and respectful of the challenges that Israel is going through.”

The measure considered on Tuesday specifically calls for “encouraging the expansion and strengthening of the Abraham Accords to urge other nations to normalize relations with Israel and ensure that existing agreements reap tangible security and economic benefits for the citizens of those countries and all peoples in the region, “ as was reported by The Hill.

The Hill also reported that the resolution also said the House encourages Washington and Tel Aviv “to continue to deepen and expand bilateral cooperation” on economic, security and civilian matters. It “expresses continued support for security assistance to Israel as outlined in the United States-Israel Memorandum of Understanding to ensure that Israel can defend itself by itself.”

Additionally, the resolution stated that the House “supports Israel’s robust involvement as an active member of the community of nations to benefit Israel and the United States as partners who share common values and a commitment to democracy.”

As to why some House Democrats voted against the legislation, political insiders have taken note of the fact that for a great many years now, Israel has not enjoyed bi-partisan support in Congress as it once had. The Hill noted that “progressives” in the House and namely in the Democratic party have regularly criticized the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians, particularly under the tenure of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

One source familiar with congressional trends told the Jewish Voice, “The sad fact is that most supporters of Israel in the US, whether they be Jewish or non-Jewish, have had great difficulty coming to terms with the tragic reality which is that the woke, progressive Democrats in Congress have a far-left agenda which includes coming down strong against Israel and criticizing her at every turn. Among mainstream Democrats, there are very few who will condemn them for excoriating Israel and abandoning her. What really boggles everyone’s mind is that Jews still turn out in droves to vote for Democratic candidates in local and national elections, even though they despise Israel and want to see her destroyed.”

The Abraham Accords, signed under the Trump administration, normalized relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, making Abu Dhabi the first Arab country to establish relations with Tel Aviv in more than two decades, as was reported by The Hill. Bahrain also signed onto the accords after pronouncements from Sudan and Morocco to strengthen relations with Israel.

The Hill also reported that in a statement, Michael McCaul (R-TX), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee said, “The United States and Israel have stood together as partners since Israel’s founding 75 years ago to overcome shared challenges and global threats. Together, we’ve achieved major milestones, such as the signing of the historic Abraham Accords. I look forward to continuing the longstanding tradition of friendship and partnership between our two countries.”

The Useful Veneer of the Aging Democrat thumbnail

The Useful Veneer of the Aging Democrat

By Victor Davis Hanson

Joe Biden is now 80 years-old. He will be 82 when he campaigns for the 2024 presidency—and a clearly debilitated 86 should he be elected and fill out his second term. He has been in government for over a half-century.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and current representative from California is 83.

Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the second-ranking Democratic House member behind Pelosi, was House majority leader until early this year. He is 83, and has been an elected official for nearly 60 years.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is 72, with 48 years in elected government.

Democratic luminary and former chairman of the Senate Judiciary and Intelligence Committees, Senator Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) is 89, and ailing—after 53 years as an elected official.

James Clyburn (D-S.C.) is House minority whip and 82.

These are the official faces of the Democratic Party.

They came into power and maturity three decades ago during the Clinton years of 1993-1999.

Decades ago, they sometimes supported strong national defense, secure borders, gas and oil development, fully funding the police, and a few restrictions on partial-birth abortions.

Not now.

Their role has changed from that of liberals of the Clinton era to serving as the thin power-holding veneer that masks the new real Democratic Party.

The party has been changed beyond recognition by Senators Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), the so-called Squad, the Congressional Black Caucus, newly elected senators like the Georgia duo of Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock—and Antifa and Black Lives Matter.

Yet Biden and company are still familiar American faces.

Their final role is to acculturate the electorate to the new Democratic Party.

Its radicals are breathing down their necks to get out of the way. Yet for a while longer they still need such an ossified veneer of respectability to ease the transition to what is now essentially a socialist-European green party.

This new Democratic Party believes in defunding the police.

It supports the George-Soros-funded state and city district attorneys.

These prosecutors seek either to release violent criminals without bail or reduce their felonies to misdemeanors.

Critical legal and race theories are their creeds. So they argue that crimes have little to do with individual free will.

Criminals are not deterred by tough enforcement of the laws. Instead, “crime” reflects arbitrary constructs of a racially oppressive hierarchy.

They believe the woke revolution of using race and gender in lieu of a meritocracy should dominate government and corporate boardrooms.

Racial separation in graduations, dorms, and university programs are needed reparations.

Big Tech is their ally. All the better when it partners with government, especially the FBI and CIA, to suppress “misinformation” and “disinformation.”

They believe gender is socially constructed. Thus transitioning biological males can and should compete in women’s sports.

They want a Green New Deal right now, one that calls for the abolition of natural gas and oil for electricity generation and transportation.

Abortion is seen as a God-given right—even as a baby passes through the birth canal.

Climate change is their religion, trumping any concern for the viability of the middle-class suffering from inflation, high interest rates, and recession.

They want semiautomatic rifles to be banned. Concealed handgun permits should be almost impossible to obtain.

The more voters skip Election Day through mail-in balloting and early voting, the better.

There is no longer “dark money,” only useful “correct” money.

The more that Silicon Valley and Wall Street grandees quietly reroute hundreds of millions of dollars into hard-Left PACs and “nonpartisan” causes, the more the donors should expect lucrative crony-capitalist green deals and government concessions.

Much of the ideology of the new Democratic Party arose in academia, like critical race theory and modern monetary theory. The giveaway word is “theory”—a mask for any absurd doctrine that can be dressed up as a sophisticated new idea.

When Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), the new Democratic minority leader in the House or Elizabeth Warren in the Senate advocates these positions, the voters recoil. That pushback is understandable, since almost none of these notions polls above 50 percent.

The role of a calcified Biden, Pelosi, Feinstein, Hoyer, or Clyburn is to reassure voters through their notoriety and apparently staid exteriors that they are hardly the sort to embrace revolution, although that is exactly what they do.

“Ol’ Joe” Biden’s old guard and the new hard Left play a game of mutual advantage.

The new majority of radical Democrats allows the old fogies to bask in the limelight until they drop—exempt from counter-revolutionary criticism or interparty primary challenges or demands to retire.

In return, the codgers reassure the nation that old faces like theirs cannot possibly be polyester revolutionary socialists—despite their role in airbrushing and photoshopping the radical catastrophe unfolding before our eyes.

How Biden’s sanctions are funding Putin’s war against Ukraine thumbnail

How Biden’s sanctions are funding Putin’s war against Ukraine

By Center For Security Policy

On February 24, 2022, the first day in the new chapter of the Putin’s aggression against Ukraine, President Biden pledged to destroy aggressor with his package of ‘severe’ sanctions:

Today, I’m authorizing additional strong sanctions and new limitations on what can be exported to Russia. This is going to impose severe costs on the Russian economy, both immediately and over time. We have purposefully designed these sanctions to maximize the long-term impact on Russia and to minimize the impact on the United States and our Allies…Twenty-seven members of the European Union, including France, Germany, Italy — as well as the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and many others — to amplify the joint impact of our response. I just spoke with the G7 leaders this morning, and we are in full and total agreement.  We will limit Russia’s ability to do business in Dollars, Euros, Pounds, and Yen to be part of the global economy.  We will limit their ability to do that.  We are going to stunt the ability to finance and grow the Russian military… We’ve already seen the impact of our actions on Russia’s currency, the Ruble, which early today hit its weakest level ever — ever in history…

When Biden was asked whether he was confident that the sanctions would be as devastating as Russian missiles, he responded with: “Yes…. He [Putin] is going to begin to see the effect of the sanctions… They are severe sanctions.”

Finally, President Biden invited participants of the press conference and the whole world to check the results of his actions: “Let’s have a conversation in another month or so to see if they’re working…”

The total number of U.S. sanctions against Russia since February 22, 2022, has reached an impressive 2,201. The European Union also imposed 10 packages of sanctions against Russia, including nine packages during 2022. The total number of sanctions imposed by Western countries since February 2022 reached 11,575, making Russia the world record holder.

Now, over a year after Biden’s speech, the results of the his sanctions policy are in.

In February-March 2022 the White House and many economic organizations and experts were predicting a sharp decline in the real size of the Russian economy as a result of the Biden sanctions. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) projected a 10% shrinkage in the Russian economy, which would constitute the country’s deepest recession for almost 30 years. Goldman Sachs forecasted a 10% contraction, Capital Economics projected a 12% contraction, while the Institute for International Finance predicted an even more damaging 15% plunge.

All those forecasts did not materialize. In fact, according to the Russian statistical agency, Russia’s real GDP in 2022 decreased by only 2.1%. Such a decline coincides with the country’s mildest 2015 recession (2.0%) and is much weaker compared to the output decline during other Russian crises over past three decades: -2.7% in 2020, -5.3% in 1998, -7.8% in 2008, and cumulative decline of 40.2% from 1991-1996.

Moreover, the recession period turned out to be quite short. The industrial output contraction measured by Moscow’s Higher School of Economics, lasted only three months – from March to May 2022, during which it declined by only 4.4%. In May of 2022, industrial production stabilized and then started to slowly grow. From May 2022 to February 2023, it grew at annualized rate 2.0%.

But the most shocking fact was that while real GDP decreased slightly (by 2.1%), its value in dollar terms according to the IMF data, grew by 20.6% and reached a record level in the Russian history of $2,215 billion.

It might be the first time in the world history when, numerous packages of “comprehensive sanctions from the hell” designed to harm an aggressive state, resulted in GDP (in dollar terms) not falling, but increasing by more than a fifth. In dollar terms Russia’s GDP ranked 11th in the world in 2020, but in 2022 ranked 8th.

Despite Western states freezing part of Russian international reserves – according to Russian Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov and head of the Russian Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina, around $300 billion– Russia’s international reserves were barely affected by sanctions. As of February 18, 2022, they stood at $643 billion. 14 months later, on April 14, 2023, they are still quite comfortable at $600 billion. The current size of reserves ensures solid stability of Russia’s monetary and financial system.

The main reason for a spectacular failure of President Biden’s and others’ predictions is the type of sanctions imposed and the character of overall economic policies the White House is pursuing.

The Western sanctions implemented both in February 2022 and regularly since then have been directed most exclusively against Russian imports and almost did not touch Russian exports, including the energy sector. Since Biden’s team has implemented insane energy and climate policies, the lack of energy supply on the world market raised oil prices, allowing the Kremlin to sustain its export of oil, oil products, and natural gas while enjoying with record high energy prices.

As a result, Biden’s sanctions against Russia, along with its energy and climate policies led to the sharpest increase in the Russia’s trade and current account balances. The latter grew from $105 billion to the $227 billion level.

The flood of foreign exchange proceeds into Russia in 2022 is unprecedented. The export of goods and services from Russia last year grew by 19.8% and reached $592 billion, a record high. Growth was also at a record high at 42.8% in revenues from export of oil, oil products, and gas, which amounted to $384 billion, averaging more than $1 billion per day.

Huge foreign exchange revenues pushed the Ruble exchange rate up, and instead of falling down, as it was predicted by Biden back in February 2022, it has appreciated by 7.2% – from 73.7 Rubles per dollar in 2021 to 68.4 in 2022, thus becoming one of the world’s best performing currencies last year.

The combination of all these factors caused Russian GDP in dollar terms to grow by $379 billion. The financial resources at the Kremlin’s disposal have increased enormously. The revenues of the Russian consolidated budget in 2022 ballooned by $107 billion and reached $760 billion, expenses grew by $171 billion and reached the record high in Russian history – $810 billion.

The growth of dollar values of GDP, government revenues, and government spending allowed Putin to significantly increase Russia’s military spending. While official data on military spending has not been published since February 2022, available estimates of their annual size range between $150-180 billion, which constitutes an increase of 2.5-3 times compared to $60 billion in 2021.

The $90-120 billion rise in military spending last year has been comfortably financed by windfall profits that resulted from the Biden administration’s policies.

Russia’s Finance Minister Anton Siluanov did not hide his satisfaction with the extra revenues caused by the international environment: “the military special operation in Ukraine requires huge financial resources,” thanks to “additional oil and gas revenues” they are “directed to… priority measures.”

A significant increase in dollar GDP allowed the Kremlin to increase military expenditure while avoiding drastic cuts in government spending on most of other items. As a result, the average real wage in Russia decreased by only 1.1%, while the size of retail trade turnover declined by only 6.7%. Thus, the Russian population has experienced no serious impact from the full-scale war unleashed by the Kremlin against Ukraine and, to some extent, on Europe and the U.S. as well.

At the same time, Ukraine’s GDP, according to the IMF’s April report, decreased by 30.3% in real terms, by 24.3% in dollar terms (by $49 billion) and now amounts to only $152 billion.

Therefore, the economic potentials’ ratio between Russia and Ukraine substantially worsened for Ukraine. In 2021 Russia’s GDP was 9 times larger than Ukraine’s, in 2022 this ratio increased to almost 15 times.

The Biden team’s sanctions policy has resulted in a significant increase in the economic and financial potential of the aggressor, with a simultaneous reduction in the economic and financial potential of the victim of the aggression. It allows the aggressor to count on endless continuation of a war of attrition, which – with such tangible assistance from the White House – he hopes to win.

The strategy of successful defense of Ukraine, as well as of European allies and the U.S. itself in a long war of attrition requires a fundamental change in the Biden administration’ sanctions policy.

Tuberville on His Military Abortion Blockade: ‘I Have the Power, and They’re Panicking’ thumbnail

Tuberville on His Military Abortion Blockade: ‘I Have the Power, and They’re Panicking’

By Family Research Council

In the military, most men and women would do anything to save a life. They’ll jump on grenades, parachute into enemy territory, walk across landmines. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) isn’t asking them to do any of that for the lives on the line with Pentagon’s new abortion policy. All he’s requesting is that a couple hundred flag officers wait a little longer for their promotions — an inconvenience that could save as many as 4,000 innocent lives. Who could possibly object to that? Radical Democrats, of course.

On Tuesday, abortion zealot Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) went on a tirade over Tuberville’s decision to hold up flag officer promotions until the Biden administration backs off its unconstitutional abortion expansion. “Holding up the promotion of every single military nominee isn’t democracy,” Warren ranted, “it’s extortion. That kind of extortion has serious consequences for our national defense. These holds pose a grave threat to our national security and to our military readiness. They actively hurt our ability to respond quickly to threats around the world.”

Funny how Warren is suddenly concerned about military readiness, since it hasn’t seemed to factor into any of the Democrats’ policies detracting from it — transgenderism in the ranks, unconstitutional vaccine mandates, CRT and pronoun trainings, and diversity, equity, and inclusion classes. The only war the president’s party seems intent on fighting is the cultural one.

Yet Warren wasn’t the only one raising a ruckus. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) insisted that “what’s happening” because of Tuberville’s “charade” is “not only dangerous, but it’s insulting. That’s the only word that can be used for one senator to hold up 184 men and women and their promotions in the military. I never thought I’d see that day in the United States Senate.”

In that case, Durbin must have been AWOL the day that Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) threatened to hold up the promotions of more than 1,100 senior Army officers if the Trump White House blocked their impeachment witness, Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman, from advancement.

Either way, Tuberville made it clear where the blame for this situation really lies. “This is Secretary [Lloyd] Austin’s choice, not mine. He knew the consequences for months” of his radical abortion expansion. “I’m not going to budge,” he assured his Democratic colleagues. “I will come down here as many times as it takes — day and night — to vote. I’m not afraid to vote.”

Later, on “Washington Watch,” he told Family Research Council President Tony Perkins that this isn’t just about abortion. It’s about a “tyrannical executive branch walking all over the United States Senate and doing our jobs.”

“This White House [is] dictating now from their purview,” Tuberville shook his head. “They’re turning into Canada and a lot of the European countries [with] one single leader. [They] don’t worry about going through Congress. Don’t worry about going through proper order. They just push things on the American people. You can’t force taxpayers to pay for abortion. That’s a law,” he pointed out. “Been a long law a long time. … And it’s worked pretty good,” Tuberville said, pointing out that the Pentagon has only approved about 20 abortions a year under the exceptions of rape, incest, and life of the mother.

Nobody had a problem with that policy until the Dobbs decision, the famous football coach explained. Now, they want to force as much taxpayer-funded abortion on the country as possible, “so they’re allowing abortions at any time in the military for any reason. Also, their dependents, they’ll fly them anywhere they want to go. They’ll pay them for three weeks. And who’s paying for it? The taxpayer is. Well, the Hyde Amendment says that’s against the law. But these people don’t worry about the law.”

Tuberville is planning to make them care. “They have the power, but now I have the power. One senator has got the power to put a hold on anything. And they are panicking. They don’t know what to do. But I can give them [something] to do: go back to the old policy.”

Of course, the Alabama icon said, “It’s not really about the military guys, and it’s not about the [Department of Veterans Affairs]. It’s about them controlling our country and doing what they want to do. … They’re circumventing every rule they possibly can. They said, ‘What can we do? How can we give more and more abortions? How can we make the taxpayers pay for it? Well, let’s look at this. The VA, we can do that.’”

Under this new rule, Perkins pointed out, “it’s estimated that the number [of military abortions] will grow from [20 per year] to over 4,000. That’s over 200 times the number of abortions that would be performed under this policy. This isn’t parity. This is expansion.”

Like a lot of Republicans, he’s been frustrated by the GOP’s timidity on the life issue. “We need more and more people to step up. … You know, if we’re going to be pro-life, let’s be pro-life. You can’t ride the fence.” Too many people are focused on protecting their seats, Tuberville warned. “I’ve been up here two years, and that’s all people try to do is get reelected. They like power. They like the prestige of all of this. … [But] we’re working for the people; we’re not up here for us.”

If that means he’s not popular, so be it. “They’ve called me every name in the book,” Tuberville said. “And I told them, ‘Listen, I coached college football for 40 years. I’ve already been called everything. That doesn’t bother me.’ I’m doing the work for the American people. … And the Constitution backs the law, [which] says … taxpayer money cannot be used for abortion. Done deal. Game, Set. Match.”

Boston Logan Airport TSA Agents Find Titanium ‘Vampire Straw’ In Carry-On Luggage

By The Daily Caller

Authorities confiscated an inconspicuous carry-on item known as a “vampire straw” from a security checkpoint at Logan International Airport in Boston, the Associated Press (AP) reported Tuesday.

The “vampire straw” was a 10-inch titanium straw with a sloping end. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents at the airport found the straw in the backpack of Arman Achuthan Nair as he moved through security, according to AP.

Nair was arrested Sunday evening and now faces a charge of carrying a dangerous weapon, the outlet reported, citing Massachusetts State Police.

The TSA prohibits vampire straws from being brought aboard flights, according to AP. Vampire straws are designed as a tool combining properties of a straw for drinks and a self-defense weapon equivalent to a dagger.

Nair, a 26-year-old from Chicago, was later released on bail. He has an arraignment scheduled at the East Boston Municipal Court on May 30, the outlet reported.

Logan International Airport was evacuated in April 2022 after TSA agents discovered a suspicious item that turned out to be an old PlayStation video game console. The agency seized a record 6,542 guns from American airports in 2022.

Second American Killed In Sudan After Biden Admin Doesn’t Evacuate Civilians

By The Daily Caller

The White House confirmed Wednesday a second American has died in Sudan since violence erupted earlier this month between two warring generals.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby shared the news with reporters on a call Wednesday morning, but did not provide details on the identity of the American of the nature of their death, except that it occurred Tuesday. He said the administration offers its condolences to the family and is stressing to Sudanese leaders that they are responsible for the safety of civilians in the country.

Kirby added that the United States is actively facilitating the evacuation of some Americans from Sudan, using U.S. surveillance and intelligence assets to guide Americans to Port Sudan.

The Biden administration is still claiming that it is unsafe to conduct a government-run evacuation, such as an airlift, despite a number of other countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Japan having done so in recent days. As of Monday afternoon, there were at least “dozens” of Americans still in the country looking for a way out, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

The State Department confirmed the first American killed in Sudan last Friday, without offering details about them or the incident. Government estimates indicate there are around 16,000 Americans in the country, although it is unclear how recent that estimate is and how many of those are dual nationals with roots in the country.

Serious fighting began in Sudan weeks ago between two rival generals who had been in a power sharing agreement after a coup in 2019. The two generals were intended to transition to a civilian, democratic government, but talks apparently broke down and the country has now descended into civil war. More than 500 people have been killed in the fighting so far, and the airport in Khartoum is closed.

All the President’s Islamists thumbnail

All the President’s Islamists

By Jihad Watch

Biden’s 100 Muslim staffers include BDS defenders and terrorist allies.

In 2014, Abdullah Hasan was a recipient of the CAIR-SFBA Islamic Scholarship Fund. He went on to defend BDS for the ACLU. Now he’s an assistant press secretary at the White House.

CAIR is an Islamist organization that was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in one of the largest terror financing trials in America. Its founders were linked to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, and it has opposed efforts to protect the United States against Islamic terrorism.

“Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant,” CAIR co-founder Omar Ahmad had declared.

When Hasan received his scholarship in 2014-2015, the Islamic Scholarship Fund’s board members included Hatem Bazian, one of the country’s most notorious Islamic bigots, the co-founder of Students for Justice in Palestine, and an alleged supporter of Hamas, who has spent decades trafficking in antisemitism.

Hasan’s fellow CAIR-SFBA recipients included Salmah Rizvi, a former fellow at Al-Haq, a BDS group listed by Israel as a terrorist organization over its connections to the PFLP. Al-Haq’s general director is allegedly a key terrorist leader in the PFLP. Despite this background, Rizvi got an intelligence position in the Obama administration and produced materials that went into the President’s Daily Brief. After leaving the administration, she bailed out her best friend,

Urooj Rahman, who had been accused of throwing molotov cocktails at a police car.

After conducting research around “primary Islamic texts and within a post-9/11 surveillance culture”, Hasan went into activism, opposing anti-BDS measures on behalf of the ACLU.

In an op-ed co-written by Hasan, he defended “lawful boycotts of Israel” and claimed that opposition to BDS was a “loyalty test”.

In 2019, Hasan ranted that, “Islamophobia is rampant even in our highest democratic institutions” like the Supreme Court.

Now he represents the Biden administration as one of its press secretaries.

Abdullah Hasan is one of a record number of over 100 Muslim staffers in the Biden administration. The growth has been especially astonishing considering that MOSAIC, an association of Muslim federal employees, could only gather 110 personnel for its second Iftar in 2016 and there are now almost as many aligned Muslims within the administration.

Kamala Harris commemorated Ramadan by posing with most of them on the steps of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and described them as “our administration’s incredible Muslim team.”

Biden’s incredible Muslim team includes men and women whom we have already profiled like Maher Bitar, a former executive board member of Hatem Bazian’s Students for Justice in Palestine and anti-Israel BDS activist who became Biden’s Senior Director for Intelligence on the National Security Council, Reema Dodin, Biden’s first “Palestinian” staffer who had defended suicide bombings, and Mazen Basrawi, Biden’s new Muslim liaison, who attended a conference honoring one of the unindicted co-conspirators of the World Trade Center bombing,

But there are many others who have not been fully investigated or profiled.

They include Aya Ibrahim, who started out as a legislative fellow to Rep. Rashida Tlaib, one of the most vocal terrorist supporters in Congress, and then a legislative assistant and adviser to fellow Squad member Rep. Ayanna Pressley. Biden took her on and brought her into the National Economic Council and then elevated her to a senior adviser in the White House Office of Technology and Policy only six years after she had graduated with a BA in Political Science.

Sameera Fazili briefly served as Deputy Director of the National Economic Council in the Biden Administration. At Harvard, she had served as president of the Harvard Islamic Society the year that it had conducted a fundraising dinner for the Holy Land Foundation: a Hamas front group.

(The event, part of the Harvard Islamic Society’s Islamic Awareness Week was co-chaired by Faiz Shakir who went on to become a top adviser to Senator Harry Reid, worked for Nancy Pelosi and became Bernie Sanders’ campaign manager.)

At Harvard, Fazili had assailed counterterrorism expert Steve Emerson.

Fazili had a past with Karamah: Muslim Women for Human Rights which claims that “Islamic jurisprudence is the source of the knowledge base essential to the promotion of the rights of Muslim women”. The organization has defended Sharia law.

According to the Middle East Forum’s Islamist Watch, Fazili was a leading member of Stand With Kashmir: “best known for praising and defending violent Islamists in South Asia.” Her organization had called for the release of Islamic terrorists including supporters of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda.

Uzra Zeya started out as a staffer at the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs: an informal arm of the Arab Lobby started by former diplomats to Muslim countries. While there Zeya helped compile material for a book claiming that Jews secretly control the United States. Biden chose Zeya as his undersecretary for civilian security, democracy and human rights.

After the Muslim Brotherhood was overthrown, Zeya complained that “there are activists — including some in Egypt — who face criminal charges and intimidation for the peaceful exercise of their rights.”

Salman Ahmed, a former UN Peacekeeping official, was picked by Biden to oversee his transition team’s national security and foreign policy review before taking over at the Director of the Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff. When Biden allowed the Taliban to take Kabul, Ahmed was sent to negotiate with the Taliban in Qatar.

Rashad Hussain, Biden’s “ambassador for religious freedom”, who has a degree in Islamic Studies and had memorized the Koran, had been Obama’s envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. During his time working for Obama, he had been caught lying about his past defense of an Islamic terrorist. Hussain had appeared at events with Muslim Brotherhood leaders. His wife, Isra Bhatty, became famous volunteering as a translator for Islamic terrorists in Gitmo before moving on to a senior position at the Justice Department.

Even after Hussain’s appointment, he appeared at an Islamic Society of North America convention whose speakers had “promoted anti-Hindu rhetoric, called for the release of convicted terror supporters and for the establishment of a caliphate.” “One activist who spoke at the convention called convicted Hamas terror supporters, ‘the finest men.’”

Brenda Abdelall, the daughter of Egyptian immigrants, had participated in anti-Israel BDS protests in college. In a newspaper op-ed in 2002, she had falsely accused Israel of “ethnic cleansing” as part of a “brutal occupation”.

“We cannot let the entire population of Palestinians suffer any longer, nor can we let the entire population of Chechens suffer either,” the Muslim activist had insisted.

Abdelall went on to work for the ACLU and then Muslim Advocates: a group working to stop America from fighting against Islamic terrorism. She taught a course at the University of Michigan Law School on ‘Islamophobia and the Law’. joined “Arab Americans for Biden” and was rewarded with a position at the Department of Homeland Security as “assistant secretary for partnership and engagement”.

Even after this appointment, Abdelall appeared at the same convention as Hussain where speakers had called for a caliphate ruled by Islamic law and freeing Islamic terrorists..

This is a snapshot of not all, but some of the President’s Islamists. As the number of Islamic staffers in the administration continues to grow, it becomes difficult to keep track of more than a few of them. What was once ‘entryism’ has become a hijacking. And yet what we do see is troubling. Despite the denials, looking into the backgrounds of some of Biden’s more than 100 Islamic staffers, it doesn’t take much to turn up support for terrorists, hostility to America and Israel, and associations with the Muslim Brotherhood and its front groups.

The Biden administration is not, as some call it, “soft on terror”; it’s a Trojan horse of terror.

Israel Lost 59 Soldiers Since Last Memorial Day

By The Geller Report

The Biden regime restored aid to the Palestinian Authority. As such, Palestinian terror attacks against Israel are surging. Since Israel’s last Memorial Day, Israel has lost 59 soldiers to jihadi terrorists.

Today, all across the country, we stop for Yom Hazikaron.

Israelis gather to memorialize the soldiers who have fallen defending Israel, and the civilians who fell due to acts of terrorism.

Israel is on the front lines in the war against global terrorism. This war has cost the tiny Jewish state over 24,000 soldiers since it’s inception in 1948. Every American should be proud to support Israel. That is because when Israel fights terrorism in Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza, it is protecting Americans in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and all points in between. May the memory of Israel’s fallen soldiers be a blessing.

Musk to Build New Chinese Factory, Despite CCP Crimes and Abuses thumbnail

Musk to Build New Chinese Factory, Despite CCP Crimes and Abuses

By Catherine Salgado

Twitter Inc. has apparently changed its name to the highly unimaginative X Corp., but that, in my opinion, isn’t the most important news this week related to Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk. Musk is once again selling out his supposed pro-free speech humanitarian principles for profit.

If a country’s government is committing genocide and religious persecution, runs a tyrannical censorship regime, demands every major business answer directly to the government, and is openly hostile to your country (the U.S.), would you be worried about doing business there? If you’re Elon Musk, the answer is an emphatic “no.” The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) many and ongoing crimes evidently do not disturb Musk, who is planning to expand his Tesla China branch with a huge new factory.

CCP state media outlet Xinhua News excitedly announced on April 9, Easter, that Tesla would be building a new “mega factory” in China to produce Megapack, the company’s huge energy-storage batteries. I guess labor really is a lot cheaper in China. So much for Musk calling himself a “free speech absolutist” and pontificating that he “love[s]” humanity; it’s profit over principles for the Tesla and Twitter CEO.

Musk’s hypocrisy is not shocking, however. Tesla workers were reportedly being forced to work in very inhumane conditions during China’s insane zero-COVID lockdowns in early 2022, and Musk endorsed the CCP’s unjust claims on Taiwan.

Tesla is set to break ground on the new battery plant in 2023’s third quarter, per Xinhua. The plant will then begin production in 2024’s second quarter, according to Tesla representatives at a signing ceremony in Shanghai and Xinhua. All major businesses in China are surveilled by and answerable to the CCP, and the CCP practices “civil-military fusion”–where everything in the economic and tech spheres is accessible to the Chinese military. The CCP is also history’s greatest mass murderer, having killed over 500 million people.

Musk is acting like a greedy traitor. It is time American businessmen started putting principles and patriotism ahead of profit and power.

Israel is Fighting the World’s War thumbnail

Israel is Fighting the World’s War

By Jihad Watch

Editor’s note: The piece below is to mark Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, and Yom Haatzmaut, Independence Day – a somber day followed by a day of great celebration held every year in late April or early May on the day (in the Hebrew calendar) which, in 1948, Israel declared its independence. This year, Yom Hazikaron will be commemorated from the evening of Monday, April 24th, and Yom Haatzmaut will be celebrated from the evening of Tuesday, April 25 to the evening of Wednesday, April 26.

None of the 18 people murdered in Israel by Islamic terrorists so far this year were soldiers.

The dead included a 6-year-old boy and his 8-year-old brother killed in a car ramming attack in Jerusalem, a British mother and daughters gunned down on the road, a 27-year-old from Connecticut traveling to a wedding, and an Italian tourist run over on the beach.

In some countries, the soldiers fight wars, in Israel, they fight to stop a genocide.

Islamic massacres are often defended with some variation of “the occupied have the right to resist”. The Muslim occupiers keep resisting the indigenous Jewish population by killing women and children, and random foreigners whose only crime is being non-Muslim in a land that the terrorists want to reclaim for Islam.

Ever since the “throw the Jews into the sea” era, the agenda has never changed.

After the shooting of two brothers driving through the occupied village of Huwara, the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research conducted a poll asking the Arab Muslim settlers if they approved of the terrorist attack. 71% of them supported the killings.

When Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, arrives on Monday evening, it finds a nation at war against a genocidal enemy that has half the world under siege.

In the past several weeks, five terrorists were arrested in Sweden, four in France in yet another plot to carry out an attack the Champs-Elysées, a teenager in the UK will be tried for plotting an attack at the Isle of Wight Festival and an Islamic terrorist leader in Australia was sentenced to 15 years in prison for planning to behead a non-Muslim and drape his body in the ISIS flag.

Stories like these have become so routine and overshadowed that we no longer pay any attention to them. Islamic terrorism unites us all. Its victims include America and Europe, India, China and Russia. It crosses the world from Africa to Asia and ends up on our doorstep.

With so much of the world under siege, it is a wonder that a tiny country so narrow you could walk its width has been the finger in the dike, holding out against a tide of death flooding the world.

The Jihad did not begin in Israel, but it was a warning to the world of what was to come. The prediction that we would one day all be Israelis, that Islamic terrorism would become a part of our everyday lives and we would go on while trying to ignore it, has long since come to pass.

But, as Israel enters its memorial day and red poppies known as the ‘blood of the maccabees’  mark the fallen, followed by Yom HaAtzamut, its independence day, there are still things, both good and bad, that we can learn from the Jewish State. The connection between the two Israeli commemorations, memorial day on Monday night and independence day on Tuesday night, is a powerful reminder that independence can only be maintained through a willingness to fight.

Surrender is not an option, but it has never been an option in a country where it would mean the mass murder, with occasional side mass rape, of the population. Israel has retreated, it has negotiated, but it has never surrendered. The terrorist attacks serve as a constant reminder of an enemy that obsessively kills women and children because its mission is total extermination.

Only 38% of the Israelis killed in Islamic terrorist attacks in 2023 were military age men. 27% were female and 22% were children. The murdered included 6-year-old and 8-year-old boys run down in the street, a 14-year-old boy on the way to synagogue and a 15-year-old British girl traveling with her family.

This is why the Israeli soldier serves. He is there to put his body on the line between Islamic terrorists and the most vulnerable and innocent children whose lives they lust to take.

Islamic terrorists don’t kill children by accident, they see it as their highest calling.

House Democrats recently protested the arrest of Sheikh Rashid Ghannouchi, of Tunisia’s Islamist Ennahda Movement, who had called for “unceasing war against the Americans”.

“There are no civilians in Israel. The population—males, females and children—are the army reserve soldiers, and thus can be killed,” Ghannouchi had also declared.

The Islamic cleric has often been described as a “moderate” by the media. Moderate Muslim clerics believe in exterminating all the women and children. What do the “extremists” believe?

Despite Israel’s turbulent politics, Yom HaZikaron, the commemoration of the fallen, briefly clarifies the stakes.

And the stakes are the children. And the world.

The Muslim world convinced the international community to pressure Israel by promising that the Jihad would stop there. “Give us Israel and it will end,” they urged. Despite all those promises, the Islamic war against civilization has spread across the world. Most of the world’s major nations and some of the minor ones have their own Islamic insurgency that plays by the same rules: alternating political demands with brutal massacres in the name of Islamic rule.

Generations of Israelis have gone to an endless war, sacrificed sons and daughters, to hold back the tide. They did it in defiance of the ignorance, hostility and pressures of the world.

They did it because they believed, they did it because they refused to die and they did it because surrendering to an enemy that gleefully butchers children was unthinkable.

Despite everything that has happened in the last generation, the world has learned little. But the Israelis have learned that peace is an illusion and that all they can do is hold the line.

When the torches are lit and loved ones weep, when the ‘blood of the maccabees’ blooms, a nation reckons again with the price that it pays for survival. Whatever myths pacifists may harbor and anti-war activists preach, there is no escape for any nation from paying that price.

Some nations have it paid by others, as the United States of America has done for so much of the globe, but in a world where evil is a reality writ in the black ink of the Koran, there can only be temporary refuges from the reckoning.

Israel still relies on a draft army. The price paid for war is a shared burden, but so is the price paid for appeasement. The fallen and their families come from all walks of life. These men and women, grandmothers, sisters, sons and nephews, have paid the world’s price in tears. They did not do it for the world, but their nation’s memorial day is nonetheless a lesson for the world.

Paying the price for freedom has long since become a cliche. Israelis do not pay the price for freedom. They pay it so that their children, their loved ones and their people are not eradicated from the earth by a brutal enemy that has no concept of mercy and worships barbarism.

The Israelis have come up against a choice that we will all have to make sooner or later. They chose not to die. The day will come when we may face that choice as starkly as they do.

Let us hope and pray that we choose well.

AG Garland Identified as Official Misleading Congress in Hunter Biden Tax Probe thumbnail

AG Garland Identified as Official Misleading Congress in Hunter Biden Tax Probe

By Discover The Networks

Attorney General Merrick Garland is the previously unidentified official who, according to an IRS whistleblower, misled Congress about the Justice Department’s probe into Hunter Biden, a report alleged Friday.

Garland refused to name a special counsel in Hunter’s tax investigation to provide a degree of separation between President Joe Biden and his Justice Department.

Garland has repeatedly testified before Congress that U.S. Attorney David Weiss has the “full authority” to make a criminal referral against Hunter without the permission of the Justice Department. Garland noted he would personally have to “authorize” any charges.

“There will not be interference of any political or improper kind” in the investigation of Hunter led by Weiss, Garland insisted in April 2022.

But the IRS whistleblower believes Garland’s claims have misled Congress. The IRS agent’s attorney explained that his client can “contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a senior political appointee” — whom the New York Post identified as Garland.

As early as 2019, Hunter was under investigation by Weiss, the Trump-appointed U.S. attorney for Delaware, for potential tax and gun violations. Yet no charges have been levied.

“There’s enough to indict Hunter Biden now, there was enough to indict Hunter Biden three or four years ago with what’s on the laptop,” House Oversight Committee chair James Comer (R-KY) exclaimed on Lou Dobbs’ podcast. “So for whatever reason, this U.S. attorney hasn’t produced very many results.”

The tax probe into Hunter could implicate President Joe Biden. A witness who testified before the jury was reportedly asked to identify the “big guy.”

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) told Breitbart News he believes Garland and Biden are culpable for the alleged abuses.

“Under President Biden and Attorney General Garland, America is not equally applying justice and the rule of law. They are both equally culpable and responsible for abuse alleged by the IRS whistleblower,” he said.

Garland Says “Domestic Terrorism” by “White Supremacists” Are Among America’s Leading Problems

On June 15, 2021, Garland announced the unveiling of the Biden administration’s new “First National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism,” an initiative designed to combat what Garland viewed as one of America’s most serious problems: “domestic terrorism” carried out mostly by conservative adherents to a doctrine of “white supremacism.” In his remarks from that day, he: (a) cast the Trump supporters who had breached the U.S. Capitol on January 6 as uniquely evil; (b) warned of the allegedly enormous threat posed by violent white supremacists; (c) likened such people to genocidal Islamic terrorists; and (d) gave anecdotal examples of past terrorist incidents that had been perpetrated exclusively by whites…

China Trashing the Global Environment: ‘There Is No Fish in the Waters’ thumbnail

China Trashing the Global Environment: ‘There Is No Fish in the Waters’

By Robert Williams

China’s overseas infrastructure projects present high-impact risks to the environment, a new study has found.

The report — conducted by researchers from the Boston University Global Development Policy Center, the University of Queensland, the University of California Santa Barbara, and Colorado State University — focused on the risks to coastal and marine ecological systems posed by 114 of China’s overseas development projects between the years 2008-2019. According to the document, those 114 projects represent only 20% of all Chinese development finance projects in that time period, meaning that the results of the study are probably just the tip of the iceberg.

“Risks to marine habitats are most prominent in Caribbean island nations, such as the Bahamas and Antigua and Barbuda, as well as coastal waters across Africa, most notably along Western and Central African coastlines. In the Bahamas, Angola and Mozambique, more than 2,000 km2 of marine habitats face high impact risks,” the study noted.

Across Angola, Fiji, Sri Lanka and Indonesia, more than 50,000 square kilometers of marine habitats are “facing low but non-negligible risks from nearby projects.”

Ports built or financed by the Chinese, the study found, pose the greatest risks to marine habitats; the risks remain high even up to 30 kilometers from the port.

“These ports are present in the Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, Mauritania, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Angola, Mozambique, Djibouti and Sri Lanka, and are a prominent driver of the regional hotspots of risk,” according to the study.

Ports, however, are not the only infrastructure projects built by the Chinese that pose risks to the local environments.

Several other types of development finance projects present high impact risks within 1 km of the project site, such as power plants, bridges, roads and other facilities,” the report concluded.

It also disclosed that one fishing port, the Beira Fishing Port Rehabilitation project in Mozambique, poses “the single greatest mean impact risk to marine habitats within 10 km of all projects considered in the study.”

China’s overseas infrastructure projects are not the only ones ruining marine habitats. China’s enormous fishing fleet is simultaneously contributing not only to the severe devastation of marine ecosystems but also to the destruction of the livelihoods of local fishermen. A South African think tank, the Institute for Security Studies, recently found that Chinese fishing boats are destroying the livelihoods of West African fishing communities on the West African coast. Due to illegal Chinese fishing, they could be losing more than $2 billion each year.

In Ghana, for instance, illegal fishing boats use Ghanaian flags, but, according to the Environmental Justice Foundation, 90% of those boats belong to Chinese owners. Fishing towns in the West African country of Benin stand empty, as locals are forced to leave their fishing trade for lack of fish and seek work elsewhere. One fisherman, Geoffroy Gbedevi, said that feeding his daughter and pregnant wife was getting harder: the number of fish are far lower than previously. “Nothing is going the way it used to,” he said.

In the Mauritanian city of Nouadhibou, when China built a port for its large industrial fishing vessels, the small local fishing communities did not stand a chance. China not only threatens the livelihoods of local fishing communities’ but also their ability to source food: it depletes local marine habitats of the fish on which locals subsist.

“If we don’t do anything about this problem, we’re really dealing with a challenge on two levels,” said Dr. Whitley Saumweber, director of the Stephenson Ocean Security Project of the Center for Strategic and International Security Studies in October 2021.

“We’re dealing with the challenge of developing coastal states, a challenge that affects their sovereignty, sustainability and security. Sovereignty because they’re losing access to their own natural wealth and control over that natural wealth. Sustainability because they’re losing the ability to manage those resources in a sustainable way. And security because of the potential damage that that lack of management will have for a resource that’s critical to their own food security needs and potential development opportunities.”

The ports and the high impact risks that they pose to the environment, however, are just one aspect of China’s damage to the environment. China invests in ports in Africa, mainly so that it can extract resources from the continent and export them back to China or elsewhere. Building the ports, therefore, is just the first step in a chain of environmental destruction. Fishmeal, for example — locally sourced fish that is ground into a powder to feed fish raised in aquaculture – is a billion dollar industry. In Gambia, shortly after a Chinese fishmeal factory had begun operating, wildlife in the lagoon of the Bolong Fenyo wildlife reserve began to die of illegal toxic waste from the factory. Meanwhile, as the Chinese fishmeal factories are depleting fish resources, the locals have totally lost the trade in fish.

“There is no fish in the waters. We used to catch up to 90 trays of sardinella fish a day and now we barely get five trays a day,” said fisherman Dembo Touray from Bakau, Gambia’s largest fishing community, in 2020.

The same scenario is happening in Mauritania, where Greenpeace documented 39 fishmeal factories in 2019, up from just one in 2005, although it is not clear if all of them were Chinese.

While China’s overseas ports have received some attention from world leaders regarding the security concerns that they pose, far from enough attention has been paid to the devastating environmental impact that China’s Belt and Road projects are causing around the world. In 2017, at the opening of the Beijing Belt and Road Forum, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that the Belt and Road Initiative was driven by the ambition of “global development,” and implying that sustainability was one of the driving forces behind it.

Even though, in 2019, Communist Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged that the BRI would become “green and sustainable,” he did not say when.

According to distinguished research professor William Laurance of the Centre for Tropical Environmental and Sustainability Science at James Cook University in Cairns, Australia, there is no hope that the BRI will become sustainable. Laurance previously wrote that China is “wreaking unprecedented damage to ecosystems and biodiversity across the globe.” In August 2021, he called China’s Belt and Road Initiative “a global planet changer.”

“China has said that it will be low-carbon, green and sustainable, but it is anything but that,” Laurance said in September.

“New roads will still decimate forests, transport routes will still destroy biodiversity on a grand scale. China says it will follow environmental guidelines, but history has shown these protections are nonexistent.”

According to Divya Narain, a researcher from the University of Queensland, the Belt and Road Initiative is potentially the “riskiest environmental project in history.”

“It will have extraordinary impacts on the environment as its corridors and other projects crisscross some of the most pristine and vulnerable ecosystems in the world,” she told the Guardian in September, adding that many finished projects had already been “hugely damaging.”

Some of the worst pollution of all comes from the extraction of rare earth materials, many in Africa, which holds some of the world’s largest deposits. Demand is soaring: rare earth materials are used in everything from mobile phones, computers, fighter jets, guided missiles, solar panels, and wind turbines to electric vehicles. Even though the extraction of rare earth materials is highly polluting, China has been securing mining deals throughout Africa.

Additionally, China already mines 70% of all rare earth materials, a situation that has made the world virtually dependent on it. The future of the African continent’s environment, in short, looks anything but sustainable.

The Globalists Will End All Human Suffering — Ha! Ha! Ha!

By The Daily Skirmish – Liberato.US

Some call them the globalists.  I call them the international authoritarian Left.  Whatever you call them, they are increasingly explicit about their aims and it’s easy to see they’re up to no good.

They suffer from the gnostic fantasy – the ancient notion they possess some kind of special knowledge the rest of us are too stupid to understand.  They are willing to pursue any means – however despicable – to end all human suffering on earth.  So let’s take a look at the world they want to create and see if human suffering will truly come to an end:

Devotees of the World Economic Forum want to reduce meat and rice production and consumption to fight so-called climate change.  Won’t this hurt meat and rice producers?  Why do you think Dutch farmers are fighting their insane government’s policies designed to put them out of business in the name of climate change?  I’ll give you another example.  Sri Lanka implemented the same disastrous policies previously, only to have food prices skyrocket and the entire country crash and burn as a result.   Sounds like suffering to me.  But don’t worry, there are plenty of bugs to go around.  Yummy!

The U.N., the source of several child sex abuse scandals, called for the decriminalization of sex between adults and minors all over the world.  What about those vulnerable children who will fall victim to predatory adults?  What about their suffering?   Some kids who are sexualized early just can’t handle it.  I remember reading a story about a 15-year old boy in Annapolis who met with an older man for sex for several months, but ended up stabbing the man in the stomach with a knife.  The boy was conflicted and in distress.  There are reasons age-of-consent laws exist.  The suffering of children would just be beginning under the globalist plan.

There is more the globalists want to do to you in the name of climate change.  JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon also worships at the altar of climate change.  He wants the government to seize land under eminent domain to build solar and wind farms.  Eminent domain sounds just, but my experience as an attorney tells me landowners get screwed – they never get fair compensation from the government for their land.  What about their suffering?

The World Economic Forum praises ‘15-minute cities’ as a good way to fight climate change.  Everything you need – work, home, shopping – is just a 15-minute walk, bike ride, or public transit trip away.  Leftists scoff at the idea this could ever lead to lockdowns and taking residents’ freedom to travel away, but Oxfordshire in England has already approved plans to put electronic gates on key roads out of the city to fight climate change.  You have to ask permission to leave and, if you’re lucky, the city might say yes.   Too bad if a family member in another location is sick, your family is just out of luck.  Suffering all around.

But travel generally assumes you have a car.  The globalists don’t want you to have a car, or they want you to share cars with strangers.  This is because there aren’t enough critical minerals for a green energy transition as they admit, so we have to take everybody’s freedom away to make it all work.  Anybody who likes being free is going to suffer.

And that is the key point – freedom.  The globalists want to take your freedom away in order to run your life and save you from yourself.  They want to employ new technologies, like brain implants to monitor your thoughts, and those who master those technologies will become the Masters of the World.   You can count on them to control you through your healthcare and your social credit score.  From each according to their ability, to each according to their obedience.   Disobey your masters and your digital currency will be cut off, not to mention your life-saving drugs.

They admit you will suffer in the short-term.  There will have to be a shock to get through to the other side where the New World Order transformation awaits – kind of like the dictatorship of the proletariat in communist theory that never seems to end in the real world.  But don’t worry, just over the rainbow lies the model type of society we will all live under – China.  China, with its one thousand concentration camps for political prisoners, its forced organ harvesting, and its thought control starting with no access to the world Internet.  Yah, that China.  These are “tremendous achievements”, Klaus Schwab the head of the World Economic Forum says.

But look on the bright side:  After your masters are done telling you what to eat and what to do, done limiting your travel and tracking your every move, done controlling your thoughts, taking your freedom away, and crushing the human spirit, there will be no human suffering left.  It will have been completely eradicated.  But let me suggest to you the end of all human suffering will become the suffering.   As George Orwell put it, people who pursue noble ends with despicable means will never reach those ends because they will become despicable themselves in the process.

PODCAST: A Superpower In The Making thumbnail

PODCAST: A Superpower In The Making

By Kenneth R. Timmerman

Just three years ago, China was still a rising power, Russia was a gas station with nukes, and the Islamic State of Iran was virtually bankrupt.

What a difference a new administration makes.

The perception of America’s weakness is undeniable. The Chinese can see it, as can the Russians and the Iranian regime. Even Little Cookie, the Mac’aron of France, struts off to Beijing like one of the big boys because he knows America will do nothing to stop him.

Our military is running out of precision munitions, and our defense industrial base is three years late in delivering on signed contracts with Taiwan. Meanwhile, the Chinese are conducting military exercises to demonstrate the very real capability of successfully invading Taiwan.

Will they actually invade? That is the question everyone is asking. For a long time, I’ve been of the view that China’s leaders will behave as Sun Tzu instructed their forebears long ago, and prefer taking Taiwan without firing a shot.

They could do that through subversion and coopting the elites, as they did in Hong Kong. But with Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen firmly rejecting the “one country-two systems” policy, the Chicoms may feel it necessary to jump the tiger.

Beijing is certainly making all the noises of preparing a kinetic attack on Taiwan. If they decide to pull the trigger, I believe they will do it before the end of 2024, because with Biden in the White House, they know America is weak.

Our weakness extends well beyond the military and the leadership vacuum. Our economy has been wracked by self-inflicted inflation, and we have willfully thrown away our energy independence in just two years.

Part of this week’s Prophecy Today Weekend will look at a film I made with renowned Bible Prophecy scholar Dr. Jimmy DeYoung, before his untimely death from Covid. We will be examining America’s role in the End Times scenario found in Holy Scripture. (Hint: America does not appear in the Bible, and it’s not because the North American continent had not yet been discovered by man….)

I will argue that our political leadership seems purposefully driven to destroy American dominance, allowing China to succeed in becoming the world’s hegemon — much sooner than the Chinese themselves had previously proclaimed.
