“Ministry of Truth” Trends on Twitter After Government Unveils New “Disinformation Governance Board”

By Foundation for Economic Education (FEE)

The revelation that the government had created a new board to fight “disinformation” prompted a slew of Nineteen Eighty-Four comparisons.

On Wednesday news broke that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—a department that didn’t exist 20 years ago but today spends $52 billion annually—had created a new “Disinformation Governance Board.”

The news comes just days after Twitter accepted Tesla-founder Elon Musk’s offer to buy Twitter for $44 billion, a move that critics of the deal claimed could unleash disinformation. (Musk has been vocal in his support for free speech.)

DHS declined to be interviewed by the Associated Press, but issued a statement after news broke of the development.

“The spread of disinformation can affect border security, Americans’ safety during disasters, and public trust in our democratic institutions,” DHS said.

Perhaps naturally, the revelation that the government had created a new board to fight “disinformation” prompted a slew of Nineteen Eighty-Four comparisons, especially since it came so soon after Musk’s purchase of Twitter.

“Elon Musk buys Twitter to save free speech and days later President Biden announces a Ministry of Truth,” one observer quipped. “It’s like we’re living through an Ayn Rand/George Orwell novel mash-up.”

I know the “1984” references are a little stale but the government creating an actual Ministry of Truth is a little too on the nose for me.

Biden’s new Disinformation Governance Board is a telling replacement for the corporate censorship system. https://t.co/enjVzUqirS Now Clinton is looking to the Europeans to censor social media while Biden is turning to a type of Ministry of Truth. https://t.co/oxcOiJes3U

For those unfamiliar with George Orwell’s masterpiece, the Ministry of Truth is the propaganda and censorship department of Oceania, the fictional setting for Orwell’s dystopia.

Known as Minitrue in Newspeak, the name Ministry of Truth is a misnomer. Like all the departments in 1984, the name reflects the opposite of what the government actually does.

The book’s protagonist, Winston Smith, learns this in the second half of Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Even the names of the four Ministries by which we are governed exhibit a sort of impudence in their deliberate reversal of the facts. The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy; they are deliberate exercises in doublethink. For it is only by reconciling contradictions that power can be retained indefinitely.

Smith, who works at the Ministry of Truth, realizes the Ministry of Truth is not the least bit interested in truth. Its use of propaganda is overt, as is its use of banal slogans designed to confuse and humiliate the people of Oceania.

On the exterior of the Ministry of Truth building are three party slogans: “WAR IS PEACE,” “FREEDOM IS SLAVERY,” and “IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.” Inside the structure, problematic documents are incinerated, dropped down a Memory Hole where they are conveniently forgotten.

One might be tempted to laugh off comparisons between a “Disinformation Governance Board” and the propaganda department in Orwell’s classic work. After all, we’re talking about a novel.

This would be mistaken, however.

For starters, Nineteen Eighty-Four is indeed a fictional work. But it was inspired by the authoritarian regimes and ideologies Orwell witnessed firsthand. A one-time socialist who observed the fighting in the Spanish Civil War—a conflict between fascists and communists—Orwell became a budding libertarian who became disillusioned with collectivism.

In fact, Orwell makes it clear that Nineteen Eighty-Four was inspired by communism.

“[Nineteen Eighty-Four] was based chiefly on communism, because that is the dominant form of totalitarianism,” he told Sidney Sheldon, who purchased the stage rights to the book; “but I was trying chiefly to imagine what communism would be like if it were firmly rooted in the English speaking countries, and was no longer a mere extension of the Russian Foreign Office.”

Stalin’s regime was not the only totalitarian regime to utilize propaganda and censorship, of course. Joseph Goebbels, the chief propagandist for the Nazi Party, is perhaps the single most infamous wielder of propaganda in human history. And of course the Nazis were infamous for their book burning.

The Chinese Communist Party uses propaganda and censorship to such great effect today that scholars say it’s difficult to even know what’s actually happened in the country over the last century.

“At a time when censorship is a part of everyday experience of the Chinese people, even few historians actually know all the history of the party,” historian Sun Peidong recently told The Guardian. “It’s hard to get hold of party history materials as a history researcher nowadays. It’s even harder to know what the past 100 years has really been about.”

This is why Americans should be concerned that the US government—nearly two and a half centuries after it was founded—is suddenly in the business of rooting out “disinformation.”

Humans will always disagree over what is true. Descartes’ first principle—”cogito, ergo sum” posited that the only thing we can know with total certainty is “I think, therefore I am.”

It doesn’t take a philosopher to see that a lot of stuff one finds online is drek, so it shouldn’t surprise us that “misinformation”—in various forms and to various degrees—is rampant online.

But history shows that no one wields misinformation and propaganda with greater effectiveness—or at greatest cost—than government.

Orwell understood this. Americans would do well to heed his warning.

Conflict on the Nile -The implications for Israel

By Martin Sherman

The simmering conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia over the construction of a massive dam on the Blue Nile could have grave ramifications for Israel.

no one can take a drop from Egypt’s water, and if it happens, there will be inconceivable instability in the region.Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Aljazeera, March 30, 2021.

…we … don’t want to live in darknessEthiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Aljazeera, March 30,  2021.

These two short quotes encapsulate the essence of the brewing conflict between the leaders of the two North African nations over the waters of the Nile, triggered by the construction of a huge dam on the Blue Nile by Ethiopia, just east of its border with Sudan. The dam—the Great Ethiopian Renaissances Dan (GERD) is the largest in Africa and one of the largest in the world.

Ethiopian electricity vs Egyptian water

The Blue Nile is one of the two principal tributaries—together with the White Nile—which converge near the Sudanese capital Khartoum and then flow northwards, as the Nile, through Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea.

As the world’s longest river system, the Nile functions as a lifeline to the 11 countries, through which it runs, supplying them with both water and electricity.

Arguably Egypt, as the ultimate downstream country, is the most vulnerable to disruptions of the river flow. It depends on the Nile for over 95% of its irrigation and drinking water for its 105 million population and it perceives the Ethiopian dam as an existential threat to its national security.

By contrast, upstream Ethiopia claims that the planned hydroelectric power produced by its dam will be vital to meet the energy needs of its people—numbering over 120 million—well over half of which has no access to electricity. Accordingly, with a planned installed capacity of over 6 gigawatts, the primary purpose of the dam is to relieve the acute power shortage in Ethiopia, although the export of electricity to other countries is being considered as well.

Is a long-simmering conflict approaching boiling point?

The long-simmering conflict over the waters of the Nile, between the upstream and downstream riparians intensified in 2011 with Ethiopia’s decision to begin construction of the GERD. The dispute recently reemerged in the media spotlight when Addis Ababa initiated the operation of the first of the dam’s 13 turbines and unilaterally started production of electricity on Feb. 20, 2022, without consultation or coordination with any of the other Nile nations.

According to the World Bank, Ethiopia—the second most populous nation in Africa (after Nigeria)—is the fastest growing economy in the region and over the past decade and a half has been among the fastest-growing countries in the world (at an average of 10 percent per year). From Ethiopia’s perspective, the GERD is an essential initiative for the reduction of the widespread poverty that pervades the country, enhancing the availability of clean water—thus reducing illnesses and boosting employment.

For decades the waters of the Nile have been administered and allocated according to the colonial-era 1929 Anglo-Egyptian Treaty, which granted Egypt veto power over construction projects on the Nile River or any of its tributaries, and the later 1959  Agreement—concluded bilaterally between Egypt and Sudan—prior to Cairo’s construction of the Aswan High Dam in 1960, which would flood extensive areas of Northern Sudan.

Zero-sum impasse?

The 1959 Agreement, which effectively reinforced the provisions of the 1929 Treaty, increased water allocations to both Egypt and Sudan while neither agreement make any allowance for the water needs of the other riparian states. This includes Ethiopia, which was party to neither agreement and whose highlands supply more than 80 percent of the water that flows into the Nile River.

Unsurprisingly, as their populations—and water needs—increased, upstream nations grew increasingly dissatisfied with this arrangement. In 2010, five of them — Ethiopia, together with four White Nile riparians, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania — signed the Entebbe agreement, calling for a redistribution of the waters to include them, with Burundi joining in later.

Both Egypt and Sudan rejected the call.

Subsequent diplomatic efforts—including involvement of the UN Security Council and the African Union—proved fruitless in resolving what is essentially an archetypical “zero-sum game”. After all, with a fixed (indeed decreasing) supply of water and increasing populations (and hence demand for water) of the Nile nations, gains for upstream riparians (such as Ethiopia) must almost inevitably come at the expense of downstream ones (such as Egypt).

According to one expert: “Under another treaty in 1959, Egypt has a rightful claim to 55.5 bcm [billion cubic meters] of the Nile’s total volume. Egypt’s share of the Nile still falls short of its annual water needs that hover around 64 billion bcm. By 2020, Egypt will need 20% additional water to meet the needs of its projected population… Consistent increase in demand for water and proportionate decrease in its supply makes the future of Egypt even grimmer.

Consequently, the pursuit of some consensual arrangement, adequately satisfactory to both sides has proved consistently futile.

Egyptian saber-rattling

Going back over four decades, Cairo has reiterated that water could become a casus belli. Thus, in 1979, in the wake of peace accords with Israel, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat declared: “The only matter that could take Egypt to war again is water.”

A decade later, in 1988, then-Egyptian Foreign Minister Boutros Boutros-Ghali, later the UN Secretary-General, warned that the next war in the Middle East would be fought, not over politics, but over the waters of the Nile.

Stratfor cited a June 1, 2010 dispatch, according to which a “high-level Egyptian security/intel source, in regular direct contact with [President Hosni]Mubarak and [then-intelligence head Omar] Suleiman” said: ‘If it comes to a crisis [with Ethiopia], we will send a jet to bomb the dam and come back in one day, simple as that. Or we can send our special forces to block/sabotage the [planned]dam…’ “.

Even though Mohamed Morsi, the leader of the short-lived Islamist regime (2012-13), was generally less bellicose towards Addis Abba, he too—under pressure from his military, warned Ethiopia that “all options are open,” a reference to an airstrike, guerrilla sabotage, or destabilization of the Ethiopian government.

Last year, the current Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, cautioned that “there will be inconceivable instability in the region” if Egypt’s water supply is reduced by even “a drop“.

The drums of war?

The apparent deadlock in this clash of the crucial, indeed, existential, interests of the adversarial protagonists means that some form of military confrontation between Cairo and Addis Abba cannot be discounted.

However, should such a confrontation turn violent, the outcome is far from a foregone conclusion. For, while on paper, the Egyptian armed forces far outstrip those of Ethiopia in terms of quality and quantity of its armaments on land, sea, and in the air (see here), they would still face formidable obstacles in conducting a successful assault to halt the continued construction and operation of the massive GERD.

Moreover, it should be recalled that the only war between Egypt and Ethiopia in modern times (1874-1876), ended in an unequivocal victory for Ethiopia—despite it incurring far greater casualties. Conversely, for Egypt the war was a costly failure, severely blunting its then-regional aspirations as an African empire.

But even assuming that Egypt could effectively project military force effectively to curtail the GERD project, other factors need to be considered as well. Thus, as Cairo itself has acknowledged, any attack that causes catastrophic failure in the dam is likely to pose a major threat downstream as an almost 500-foot-high wall of water would come bursting through the breached structure along the river valley.

GERD: The ramifications for Israel

Although the Egypt-Ethiopia dispute over GERD and the Nile might appear somewhat remote and disconnected from Israel and its strategic agenda, this view may well prove mistaken.

Indeed, the potential strategic fallout of the Nile dispute for Israel is seldom, if ever raised in the public debate, despite the fact that it may turn out to be gravely ominous.

Egypt has long been plagued by Islamist insurgency in Sinai—by disaffected Bedouin tribes and the Jihadi Ansar Bait al-Maqdis, which later became the ISIS-affiliated “Sinai Province” (Wilayat Sinai). Insurgents have caused the death of thousands of Egyptian soldiers and local civilians as well as over 200 foreign citizens who died in the downing of a Russian airliner, attributed to Sinai Province.

Initially, the Egyptian army had great difficulty in contending with the insurgents, despite extremely harsh policies implemented by Cairo, and increases in military personnel and weapons that far exceeded the limitations of the peace treaty with Israel—which in itself is a source of considerable Israeli concern (see for example Israel’s Sinai Dilemma).

More recently however, partially due to a policy shift of engaging, rather than alienating, the Bedouin tribes, there has been greater success in reducing Jihadist attacks. Indeed, according to the Washington Institute, the military’s shift to tribal engagement has helped reduce jihadist attacks, but given Cairo’s sluggish efforts to advance development and human rights in the peninsula, there is little guarantee that future resurgence of previous levels of violence will not flare up once again.

GERD: The ramifications for Israel (cont.)

Given the effort in terms of personnel and materiel called for to impose law and order in Sinai and prevent its take over by Jihadi warlords, one can only ponder what the outcome would be if Cairo was faced with another situation, which gravely threatened vital national interests elsewhere and required siphoning off resources currently deployed in Sinai.

Thus, if Egypt perceives Ethiopia’s upstream dam construction as placing it in an untenable situation vis-a-vis its ability to provide vital amounts of water to its population, it may well find itself compelled to mobilize for coercive action to contend with the situation.

Thus, if the impasse with Ethiopia persists, and the grave water situation in Egypt continues to deteriorate, Cairo may well be forced to prioritize the wellbeing of the millions in the Nile delta over its endeavor to maintain its control over the remote Sinai—and draw off resources currently allocated to the latter. This will inevitably result in giving greater rein to the anti-regime—and anti-Israel—radicals, who, in the past, have launched attacks against Israel and been involved in smuggling arms into Hamas-controlled Gaza. These are likely to increase significantly if GERD-induced reductions in Egypt’s military presence take place.

Accordingly, Israel must plan for a plausible scenario in which, along its long southern border and the vulnerable transport routes connecting the center of the country with the southern port of Eilat are subject to mounting fundamentalist threats from unfettered warlords in an increasingly lawless Sinai Peninsula.

Jayapal to Democrats Against Lifting Title 42: ‘Lean Into’ Open Borders thumbnail

Jayapal to Democrats Against Lifting Title 42: ‘Lean Into’ Open Borders

By Discover The Networks

Wednesday on MSNBC’s Jose Diaz-Balart Reports, radical Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) praised the Biden administration for its plans to lift Title 42 border restrictions and said that Democrats who “criticized the previous administration, but [are] now saying, oh, there’s a problem here” have “to lean into the fact that we are a country that has prided ourselves on allowing immigrants to come from all over the world.”

Jayapal said, “I think it’s important that the Biden administration has moved on this. But I wish they were standing up for it and really defending it through the logic of what we are doing. And I think every Democrat who criticized the previous administration, but is now saying, oh, there’s a problem here, and going to the border and making it seem like there’s a problem here has to lean into the fact that we are a country that has prided ourselves on allowing immigrants to come from all over the world. I am a product of that.”

No one is saying we shouldn’t allow immigrants. The issue Jayapal pretends doesn’t exist is that our border is being overrun. We have literally no immigration controls being enforced now at all. And that is what globalist Jayapal wants.

“And I think we need to make sure that we continue to focus on the need to reform the system and not penalize asylum seekers who are trying to legitimately seek entry into this country,” she added.

Title 42 does not “penalize” legitimate asylum seekers. But lifting those restrictions will throw open the borders to a tsunami of illegitimate migrants. And that is what globalist Jayapal wants.

In an August 9, 2015 editorial lamenting the “centuries of racism” that have plagued America, Jayapal wrote: “As a country, we still have not recognized or acknowledged what we have wrought and continue to inflict on black people. The bigger results are how black kids as young as two are being disciplined differently in their daycares and pre-k classes. That black people are routinely denied jobs that white people get with the same set of experiences and skills. That black people … continue to die at the hands of police, in domestic violence, on the streets. That black mothers must tell their children as young as seven or eight that they have to be careful about what pants or hoodies they wear or to not assert their rights if stopped. That this country supports an institutionalized form of racism called the criminal justice system that makes profit … on jailing black and brown people.” She also suggested that as recompense for historical wrongs, the U.S. government should pay “reparations for slavery” to black people.

The Border Invasion is an Existential Crisis for America thumbnail

The Border Invasion is an Existential Crisis for America

By Thomas C. Patterson

The invasion crisis on our southern border is baffling. How could this outrage be happening?

The White House wants you to believe that they’re powerless to stop it. They’re willing to appear negligent and/or stupid to keep the wheels turning.

But there’s only one possible explanation that holds water: it’s a plan. And it’s working, as the border zone is flooded with millions of illegal immigrants, almost all of whom will stay permanently and lay the groundwork for an invincible voting bloc in the future.

If they sincerely wanted to do something about it, officials wouldn’t have to do any complicated thinking. Just stop egging on illegal immigrants to come and reinstate the Trump-era policies that were at least somewhat helpful.

You have to almost admire the masterminds of this catastrophe for persevering in the face of growing bipartisan revulsion at this inhumane tragedy. They are playing the long game even at the price of taking short-term political hits.

In contrast to the helpless-to-resist image they’re trying to peddle, they’re contemplating the revocation of Title 42, a Trump-era rule allowing migrant crossings to be turned away for public health reasons. Homeland Security projects ending Title 42 would result in an inconceivable 18,000 migrant crossings daily, up from our already unmanageable 7000. At that rate, by the end of Biden’s term, one in five American residents would be here illegally.

Americans don’t need to be told the results of massive illegal immigration. We live it daily. Illegal immigrants by law have access to our emergency rooms. Over half of the newborns at LA County Hospital are newly minted American citizens born to illegal immigrant parents at taxpayer expense.

Illegal immigrants crowd our schools, forcing our already stressed educational system to divert focus to ESL instruction. Moreover, they undercut unskilled American workers and drive down their wages.

They also contribute to our burgeoning crime problem. The number of criminals who have evaded Border Patrol is obviously unknown but over 40 migrants on the terror watchlist have been apprehended in addition to those who have slipped through. Enough fentanyl has been imported for every single American to have taken a fatal overdose.

But America’s greatest threat from massive illegal immigration isn’t the effect on our safety, our education nor our healthcare.  It’s not the welfare and correctional services illegal immigrants consume. The greatest danger is losing our nationhood.

America is uniquely a nation based not on geography nor blood but on its values and ideals. We have amply demonstrated our ability to absorb large numbers of immigrants who love America, who come because they want to be Americans and share our values and ideals, established in our Declaration and Constitution.

Illegal immigrants, by contrast, begin their relationship by defying a foundational principle that has made the US a magnet for immigrants since its creation: the Rule of Law.  This is the belief that we are ruled by laws, not men (people), and that each of us stand as a free and equal individual before the law.

Unfortunately, this tsunami of immigration from socialist autocracies where corruption is the norm is occurring at a time wherein America is struggling with growing levels of tribalism. E Pluribus Unum is fading as many Americans now identify primarily as members of a political, racial or other groups that competes for favors from government.

Assimilation is now scorned as a micro-aggression.  America is regarded by its own citizens as oppressive and bigoted.

Tens of millions of illegal immigrants who neither know nor care about America’s defining values don’t bode well for our future. In a decade or two, we’ll undoubtedly begin to hear about how they “deserve“ citizenship, they’ve been here a long time, don’t have any other home, and so on.  Our unity as Americans will become more fractured.

Americans are historically compassionate and resilient.  But it is past time for Americans to reinforce the crucial distinction between illegal and legal immigrants.

It’s not racist or xenophobic to protect our borders from those who ignore our principles but want to enjoy the fruits of our success. It is crucial to the survival of America as we know it.

Resurfaced Interview Reveals McCain Associate’s Leak To Buzzfeed Was Alleged ‘Hail Mary’ To Prevent Trump Inauguration thumbnail

Resurfaced Interview Reveals McCain Associate’s Leak To Buzzfeed Was Alleged ‘Hail Mary’ To Prevent Trump Inauguration

By Shelby Talcott

Editors’ Note: As the Durham investigation continues to unravel the conspiracy to subvert the campaign, and later the Presidency of Donald Trump, it is worthwhile to remember that Republicans were part of this cabal as well. This was more than just inter-party rivalry, an emotional reaction to an insult, or a clash of personalities. They were trafficking with known falsehoods, developed for foreign espionage operatives, funded by Democrats. The purpose was not only subverting the Trump campaign, they were subverting a legally elected President. In this sense, they were also subverting the will of the voter and that act of arrogance should not be forgotten. Unfortunately, the Senior Senator from Arizona, and his family, were part of this display of perfidy, and it was shameful. It significantly diminishes his memory. While the Senator is now gone, his role should not be forgotten nor forgiven. We further need to remember that elements of the McCain political machine that participated in this political caper, still reside and operate in Arizona to this day. These individuals need to be identified, held accountable,  and isolated from party leadership positions. Of course, party officials should be free to disagree on policy and robust debate is both desirable and necessary. But treachery is not desirable and they are not free to break the law or subvert the democratic system because they may feel slighted, offended, or jealous. And, if they wish to join the Democrat Party, that too is permissible.  However, joining forces with Democrats secretly, while pretending to represent the interests of Republicans, is a betrayal of the highest order.

A recently resurfaced NPR interview suggests the individual responsible for leaking the Steele Dossier to Buzzfeed in 2017 did so as a “Hail Mary” attempt to prevent former President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

News of why the dossier was apparently leaked was met with little fanfare or headlines at the time. What’s more, the revelation from NPR’s interview indicates the media played a key role in the alleged plan to stop Trump from taking office.

David Kramer, a former State Department official and associate of late Arizona Sen. John McCain, leaked copies of the dossier – authored by former British spy Christopher Steele – to Buzzfeed News and multiple other networks.

Buzzfeed subsequently published the dossier on Jan. 10, 2017, about two months after the 2016 election was called for Trump, but prior to his inauguration.

NPR later conducted a 2019 interview with Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch, the duo responsible for hiring Steele on behalf of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

The interview uncovers a revelation regarding the timing of the leaked dossier. According to Simpson and Fritsch, the Steele Dossier was leaked to Buzzfeed News in the hopes that it would “thwart” Trump’s upcoming inauguration. (RELATED: John McCain Associate Gave Dossier To BuzzFeed)

From NPR’s interview, hosted by Terry Gross and titled “Fusion GPS Founders On Russian Efforts To Sow Discord: ‘They Have Succeeded’”:

GROSS: Refresh our memory about when BuzzFeed published the Steele dossier.

FRITSCH: BuzzFeed published a dossier on – excuse me – January 10, 2017.

GROSS: So it was after the election. It could no longer affect the outcome of the election.

SIMPSON: That’s correct. But it was before the inauguration. So what we say in the book is that the person who has now admitted to leaking the dossier was apparently trying to do was to thwart the swearing-in of Trump. And he believed that if this information got out, it might lead to – somehow to Trump’s inaugural being put off.

FRITSCH: The ultimate Hail Mary pass and ill-advised.

GROSS: Who was the leaker?

FRITSCH: So there was a John McCain – a person who was close to John McCain by the name of David Kramer, who’s a former – worked in the State Department for human rights for many years and is a – an avowed Russia hawk. He became aware of the document via Christopher Steele and his network and his former colleagues in MI6. They met with Senator McCain at the Halifax forum, which is an international forum not unlike the Aspen Institute Forum. They decided that they needed to pursue this. David Kramer flew to London; met with Christopher Steele, who showed him the dossier. Mister – Chris was wary of giving the document to David Kramer to carry on an airplane, so he asked us to hand it to him, which Glenn did.

Buzzfeed News did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller regarding its publication of the dossier.

Later on in the NPR interview, Gross reiterated the news of Kramer’s alleged plan, asking if it was “ironic” that a McCain “aide” made the dossier public. (RELATED: WaPo Issues Massive Correction About Steele Dossier, Says It Can Not Stand By The Accuracy Of Two Stories)

“Do you find it ironic that it was an aide of John McCain’s who made the dossier public in the hopes of preventing Donald Trump from actually getting inaugurated?” Gross asked. “And it’s Lindsey Graham, one of McCain’s closest friends, who has been one of the leaders trying to question the Mueller report, trying to question the research that you did and supporting Donald Trump?”

“I think it’s ironic,” Simpson responded. “I think it’s hypocritical. And I think it’s depressing that a lot of people who know better are now standing up for Donald Trump. So yes, I think – you know, the Republicans paid for the first half of our investigation, and now they’re claiming it was all a Democratic hoax. It doesn’t make sense.”

The Steele Dossier contained a number of inaccurate Russia–Trump allegations. Authorities arrested Russian-born Igor Danchenko, identified in 2020 as the dossier’s primary researcher, in 2021 and made his indictment public.

The indictment cited a number of lies and falsities used throughout the dossier’s construction.

Why Is the Biden Administration Determined to Help Terrorist Iran Get a Bomb? thumbnail

Why Is the Biden Administration Determined to Help Terrorist Iran Get a Bomb?

By Majid Rafizadeh

    • Why would any administration in its right mind permit an official state sponsor of terrorism, the Islamic Republic of Iran, to have nuclear weapons, as well as billions of dollars that will assuredly not be used for a “GI Bill for returning members of the Revolutionary Guard”?
    • Just this week, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan called Iran, a “sponsor of terrorism.”
    • With Biden’s deal, restrictions on the regime’s nuclear program would be lifted only two years after the agreement is signed, permitting the regime to enrich uranium at any level it desires and spin as many uranium enrichment centrifuges as it wants.
    • Astonishingly, Russia will be trusted to be the country that stores Iran’s enriched uranium, and Moscow will get paid for this mission. More uranium for Russia? How nifty: maybe Putin can use it for his next “Ukraine” — in Poland, Sweden or France?
    • The new deal will not address Iran’s ballistic missile program, meaning that the Tehran regime will continue attacking other nations with its ballistic missiles, provide missiles to its proxy militias in other countries, and advance the range of its intercontinental ballistic missiles to reach the US territories. Iran could even use shorter-range ballistic missiles to reach the US, perhaps launched from Venezuela or Cuba, where Iran is already deeply entrenched.
    • To meet the Iranian leaders’ demands, the new deal will most likely include removal from the terrorist list of the IRGC, which has killed countless Americans, both on American soil and off.
    • The Islamic Republic of Iran began murdering Americans in Beirut in 1983, and also had a hand in the 9/11 attacks.
    • The Biden administration, if it actually cares about peace in the region — a subject that seems open to question — would do well to listen to the warnings of these many US military leaders and Congressmen, and refuse to revive the disastrous nuclear deal. It will only make even more dangerous a country that the US State Department itself has called “the world’s worst sponsor of state terrorism,” as well as frankly creating an unnecessary security threat in the region, Europe and the US.
    • Why would any administration in its right mind permit an official state sponsor of terrorism, the Islamic Republic of Iran, to have nuclear weapons, as well as billions of dollars that will assuredly not be used for a “GI Bill for returning members of the Revolutionary Guard”?Just this week, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan called Iran, a “sponsor of terrorism.”Calls and warnings against reviving the 2015 nuclear accords, however, seem to be falling on deaf ears, as the Biden administration appears determined to reach a deal that would enable a state that has been trying to take over the entire Middle East for decades — and already controls Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and Iraq — to have nuclear weapons, the ballistic missiles to deliver them, and billions of dollars to further its well-documented terrorism.Last week, 45 retired US Generals and Admirals sent an entreaty, titled “Open Letter from U.S. Military Leaders Opposing Iran Nuclear Deal”, to the Biden administration, warning against reviving of the nuclear deal. They wrote:

“In Ukraine, we are bearing witness to the horrors of a country ruthlessly attacking its neighbor and, by brandishing its nuclear weapons, forcing the rest of the world largely to stand on the sidelines.

“The new Iran deal currently being negotiated, which Russia has played a central role in crafting, will enable the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism to cast its own nuclear shadow over the Middle East.

“As retired American military leaders who devoted their lives to the defense of our nation, we oppose this emerging deal that is poised to instantly fuel explosive Iranian aggression and pave Iran’s path to become a nuclear power, threatening the American homeland and the very existence of America’s regional allies.”

While the Biden administration is indefatigably trying to appease the ruling mullahs by lifting sanctions against the Iranian regime, the Islamic Republic has been ratcheting up its threats and attacks against the US bases and its allies, presumably as a nudge.

In addition, the head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, Esmail Qaani, recently commended “Palestinian martyrs” and threatened Israel as well:

“We are in the middle of the battlefield. The Islamic Republic of Iran is at the forefront of the scene against global arrogance and international Zionism, and we will continue on the path of their honor and greatness, thanks to the martyrs.

Qaani also boasted about the Houthis’ access to weapons:

“Today, the heroes of Yemen and the new sons of the revolution are building the major weapons they use inside their country… they build missiles with a range of over 1,000 kilometers and drones with a range of over 1,500 kilometers, and all of these operations are carried out using tools and facilities in tunnels and basements, under enemy bombardment…”

The Biden administration is not only empowering the ruling mullahs of Iran and its militia groups but grievously alienating US allies in the region. As the retired American US Generals and Admirals accurately stated in their letter:

“America’s closest regional partners, attacked regularly by Iran, already strongly oppose the proposed deal. If we will not help protect them against Iran, we cannot expect their help addressing threats like Russia and China. We instead support diplomacy that would genuinely end the threat posed by Iran’s military nuclear program and counter Iran’s regional aggression, backed up by credibly drawn and enforced redlines against Iranian nuclear and regional escalation.”

Worse, the Biden administration’s new deal with the Iranian regime is much weaker than Obama’s 2015 nuclear deal. With Biden’s deal, restrictions on the regime’s nuclear program would be lifted only two years after the agreement is signed, permitting the regime to enrich uranium at any level it desires and spin as many uranium enrichment centrifuges as it wants.

The new deal will not force the Iranian regime to reveal its past nuclear activities, which had military dimensions.

Astonishingly, Russia will be trusted to be the country that stores Iran’s enriched uranium, and Moscow will get paid for this mission. More uranium for Russia? How nifty: maybe Putin can use it for his next “Ukraine” — in Poland, Sweden, or France?

The new deal will not address Iran’s ballistic missile program, meaning that the Tehran regime will continue attacking other nations with its ballistic missiles, provide missiles to its proxy militias in other countries, and advance the range of its intercontinental ballistic missiles to reach the US territories. Iran could even use shorter-range ballistic missiles to reach the US, perhaps launched from Venezuela or Cuba, where Iran is already deeply entrenched.

To meet the Iranian leaders’ demands, the new deal will most likely include removal from the terrorist list of the IRGC, which has killed countless Americans, both on American soil and off.

The Islamic Republic of Iran began murdering Americans in Beirut in 1983, and also had a hand in the 9/11 attacks.

Last but not least, economic sanctions will be lifted against the Iranian regime and will facilitate the flow of billions of dollars to the ruling mullahs. This will further assist the terrorist regime of Iran to destabilize the region, targeting and attacking US allies, and continuing arming, funding, and sponsoring its militia and terror groups across the world.

The Biden administration, if it actually cares about peace in the region — a subject that seems open to question — would do well to listen to the warnings of these many US military leaders and Congressmen, and refuse to revive the disastrous nuclear deal. It will only make even more dangerous a country that the US State Department itself has called “the world’s worst sponsor of state terrorism,” as well as frankly creating an unnecessary security threat in the region, Europe, and the US.

Legacy Media’s Most Influential Newsletters Are Funded By America’s Biggest Corporations thumbnail

Legacy Media’s Most Influential Newsletters Are Funded By America’s Biggest Corporations

By Dylan Housman

Many of the most influential sources of news in Washington, D.C. are funded by America’s biggest corporations, which often have a direct interest in the news they’re sponsoring.

Leading D.C.-insider news outlets, including Politico, Axios and Punchbowl News, rely largely on newsletters with integrated advertising and sponsorships to distribute their content to key decisionmakers in American politics. Those newsletters are frequently sponsored by Big Tech firms, defense contractors, Chinese mega-companies and other corporate interests.

Politico’s Playbook, the original digital newsletter for Washington insiders, is read by tens of thousands of politicians, bureaucrats, political staffers, lobbyists, and consultants every morning. Monday’s edition was sponsored by Google, with integrated blurbs touting the company’s efforts to help small businesses and woman-founded startups. Other Playbook posts within the past month have been presented by Facebook, the American Beverage Association (a lobbying group), and Amazon.

Axios, a Politico rival founded by former Politico employees, has its own Playbook Rival, Axios AM. Last week’s editions were presented by Bank of America. The week before that, Google. Punchbowl News, a newer competitor in the D.C.-insider news landscape, has had its flagship newsletter sponsored by Facebook, Alibaba (a Chinese eCommerce giant), and Blackstone in the past week.

There’s a trend not only of these news services read by America’s most powerful being funded by major corporations, but oftentimes by the same corporations: just recently, Google and Facebook. Perhaps even more striking is that the policy-specific newsletters offered by outlets like Politico and Axios are sponsored by corporate interests competing directly in those spaces.

For instance, Monday’s Politico Morning Energy newsletter was sponsored by Chevron; Politico Morning Money was sponsored by Blackstone; Politico’s Pulse and Prescription Pulse healthcare newsletters are presented by PhRMA (Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America) and PCMA (Pharmaceutical Care Management Association).

Axios readers are treated to Axios Generate presented by ExxonMobil, Axios Vitals presented by the American Hospital Association, and Axios Login presented by Ericsson, a 5g equipment provider. (RELATED: Corporate Media Goes Into Full Panic Mode After Travel Mask Mandate Ends)

Politico previously scrubbed any evidence of sponsorship of its national security newsletter by Lockheed Martin, America’s biggest weapons manufacturer. The branding deal was widely criticized after being highlighted on social media. More traditional media isn’t immune to similar conflicts of interest, though — last year, The Washington Post ran an op-ed criticizing the prospect of withdrawing from Afghanistan, without disclosing the fact that the author was on the board of Raytheon, a leading defense contractor.

Study: Biden’s Policies Fueled One Million New Illegal Aliens thumbnail

Study: Biden’s Policies Fueled One Million New Illegal Aliens

By Federation for American Immigration Reform

And added Nearly $10 Billion in Costs During Biden’s First Year in Office.

Washington, D.C. — A new analysis by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) finds that during the first year of the Biden administration, the illegal alien population of the United States has increased by about 1 million, adding an additional $9.4 billion in costs to American taxpayers. In total, some 15.5 million illegal aliens now reside in the United States, while costs of providing taxpayer-funded services and benefits to illegal aliens and their U.S.-born children now stands at $143.1 billion a year. These staggering increases in both the size of the illegal alien population and the cost to the American public are a direct result of policies put in place since President Biden took office, concludes the report.

The report, 2021 Update: How Many Illegal Aliens Live in the United States?, reveals how a slew of policy changes both at the border and in the interior of the country propelled rapid surges in both the magnitude and the costs of illegal immigration. Specifically, upon taking office, the Biden administration canceled agreements with Mexico and governments in Central America, and terminated border wall construction. These policies were effectively deterring new illegal immigration before President Biden came to office, and allowed for the expedited return of most of those caught entering the country illegally.

Similarly, the administration abandoned nearly all immigration enforcement in the interior of the country, resulting in record low numbers of illegal aliens who were removed from the country. Under these policies, which directly defy federal laws, nearly all illegal aliens in the U.S. are off-limits to apprehension by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is also severely constrained in where they can arrest even the small segment of the illegal population still subject to removal.

“President Biden and the people he appointed to key positions in his administration have pursued the most radical open-borders policies in the history of any sovereign nation, and these new numbers bear that out,” stated Dan Stein, president of FAIR. “If not for the COVID pandemic, which forced the administration to keep Title 42 in place last year, the additional influx and costs to American taxpayers would have been far greater.

“Rather than reinstate effective border and interior enforcement policies, the administration is doubling down on its ruinous open-border policies and is set to end Title 42 on May 23. These new illegal alien population and cost estimates by FAIR, and the imminent removal of the last effective border enforcement mechanism, leave no doubt that unchecked illegal immigration and staggering cost burdens to the American public are the explicit goals of the Biden administration,” Stein concluded.

FAIR’s new estimates of the illegal alien population are based on analysis of relevant information available from the Census Bureau’s 2020 and 2021 data.

Why have the Russians been so brutal in Ukraine? thumbnail

Why have the Russians been so brutal in Ukraine?

By MercatorNet – Navigating Modern Complexities

Has overlooking Soviet war crimes contributed to Russian war crimes today?

Shocking images have been filling our TV screens, YouTube and other social media with allegations of war crimes carried out by Russian soldiers in Bucha and other Ukrainian towns. We have seen images of people murdered, heard stories of looting, rape and general misbehaviour.

This is not what one would expect from a professional military force. What is going on? Are these the actions of a few bad apples? If so, there seem to be a lot of them. Is the bombardment of apartments and homes, hospitals and shelters, theatres and kindergartens a series of errors? Impossible. No trained artilleryman above the rank of lance corporal could mistake blocks of flats for enemy troop positions or schools for hull-down armour. It has to be deliberate.

Why would a professional army (albeit with mainly conscript lower ranks) act in a manner that would bring shame to any soldier?

The answer lies in the history of the Soviet armed forces, and goes back even further, to Tsarist Russia. Jack Watling of Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) explained in an article in The Telegraph (UK) that collective punishment did not begin with Stalin. Russian peasants lived in communes and were expected to police themselves. If they didn’t, everyone suffered.

But if that’s the case, does it mean it’s a “Russian thing” and no one can do anything about it?

The answer is surely no!

Studying the Russian military during the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815) there are no reports of widespread rape or looting. And this army included Cossack, Bashkir and Kalmyk mounted archers who might not have had the discipline of the regular Russian army. Even later, during Hungary’s independence war of 1848-49, Russia sent 200,000 soldiers to fight the newly minted Hungarian Honvédség (home defence force). The outnumbered and outgunned Hungarians had no chance, and in defiance of Austria, laid down their arms to the Russians. There were no reports of widespread looting, rapine and murder.

The brutality of Communism

It does seem that the inherent brutality of Communism had much to do with shaping Soviet soldiers’ behaviour. In an August 1919 publication, the Cheka (secret police) journal proclaims:

“To us, everything is permitted because we are the very first to raise our swords not to oppress and enslave, but to release humanity from its chains… Blood? Let blood be shed!”

And there’s much more in that bloodthirsty vein. The Russian Civil War (1917-23) is estimated to have cost 10 million lives, plus Lenin’s extra-judicial killings, estimated at three million. Watling quoted a British diplomat from 1919:

“The number of innocent civilians brutally murdered by Bolsheviks at Argo and other Ural towns runs into hundreds; some of these people have been found with eyes pierced out, others without noses… girls have been raped.”

The right to do anything in the struggle to liberate people from their chains certainly continued under Stalin at the end of World War II and thereafter. Besides the huge population “transfers” (i.e., ethnic cleansings) involving millions, the Red Army looted, raped and murdered its way to Berlin and Vienna.

Silence from fellow travellers

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but the total lack of interest in this behaviour amongst Western academics, journalists and politicians could be called a conspiracy of silence. This is not to imagine people in smoke-filled rooms planning to keep the British, American, or French public ignorant, but rather a combination of lack of access to records, a fond remembrance of WWII Allied propaganda which portrayed the Soviets as “our heroic Russian allies” and a dislike of what they thought of as “Eastern Europeans”. After all, Britain, the Commonwealth, and the U.S. had hundreds of thousands of Poles, Ukrainians, “Yugoslavs”, Hungarians and other refugees they could have asked about these reports but preferred not to. There was also the evidence for Soviet looting and rape from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and neutral sources like Sweden and Switzerland.

We should also not overlook the attraction that so many in the West found in Marxist rhetoric, or even Communism. In the 1940s and 50s, the KGB used this sentiment to recruit spies like the famous Cambridge Five (and hundreds of others). The French 1968 riots and other Western student movements used Che Guevara and Mao Zedong as their ideals. These were all radical left-wing movements and the student uprising would open the way for terrorist groups like Germany’s Baader-Meinhoff gang or the USA’s Weathermen.

It is worth noting that while Western protesters in 1968 risked arrest and a slap on the wrist, the Czechoslovak Prague Spring demonstrators risked death. They were calling for the kind of rights the French and other 1968-ers already had.

Nonetheless, the Western rebels’ influence was widespread in academia and politics. Two examples are the former president of European Union Parliament, Nicole Fontaine, and EU Greens leader and fanatical EU federalist, Daniel Cohn-Bendit. An example from academia would be American historian Lynn Hunt. In her book History, Why it Matters in which she points to how politicians like Donald Trump use lies to push their agendas. She lists numerous evils in recent history, from Turkey’s genocide of the Armenians to South African Apartheid to America’s treatment of Blacks and Native peoples to the Nazis. However, nowhere in the whole book is there a single mention of Communist crimes! That doesn’t make Professor Hunt a Marxist or Communist, but she is certainly helping their cause, even unconsciously.

There can be little doubt that the self-proclaimed revolutionaries of 1968 worked hard to cover up Communist crimes, resulting in works like that of Dr Hunt. Attitudes like this meant that very few Western historians challenged Soviet historians.

Terror from Russian ‘liberators’ in 1945

It took until the 2000s that books such as Antony Beevor’s Berlin: The Downfall 1945, appeared, which discusses Soviet mass rape in depth. Beevor writes: ”The subject has been so repressed in Russia that even today veterans refuse to acknowledge what really happened.” In 2009, a film appeared based on a German woman’s diary, title A Woman in Berlinaccording to National Public Radio. Since then, a grudging acknowledgement exists in the West that their Russian allies were, well, not perfect (but they quickly remind you the Nazis were worse. By what measure, I’ll never know.)

The rapes and plunder are well-remembered not only in Germany, but in the Baltic States, Poland, Hungary and indeed, all the countries supposedly “liberated” by the Red Army. A report by the Swiss Legation stated:

“During the siege of Budapest and also during the following weeks, Russian troops looted the city freely. They entered practically every habitation, the very poorest as well as the richest. They took away everything they wanted, especially food, clothing and valuables… every apartment, shop, bank, etc. was looted several times. Furniture and larger objects of art, etc. that could not be taken away were frequently simply destroyed. In many cases, after looting, the homes were also put on fire, causing a vast total loss… Bank safes were emptied without exception — even the British and American safes — and whatever was found was taken.”

A final example of this list of horrors, which underscores that what we are seeing on our media is not some aberration, is the 1945 murder by Soviet soldiers of Blessed Vilmos Apor, the Catholic Bishop of the city of Győr in Hungary. He was protecting some 100 women and girls from rape when Soviet soldiers burst into the building. He tried to protect them but was shot at close range with a submachine gun.

Unlike most people in the West, I grew up on stories about the Soviet Red Army being the enemy. From my father and his Hungarian, East German, Polish and other refugee friends I heard stories of the Second World War. From my mother and her friends, I heard stories of “when the Russians came.” These stories, like my late mother’s description of the Red Army’s entry into Budaörs, and of how young women like herself dressed as grandmothers and avoided the Soviet soldiers’ gaze, as well as friends who were raped, told exactly what I have written above, and this made me begin to wonder, “why doesn’t anyone care about this?”

This was back in the 1970s, when respected publications like Purnell’s History of the Second World War wondered whether the Katyn massacre of Polish officers and leaders had been committed by the Germans or the Soviets?

There was a moment when the USSR was questioned with the publication of Solzhenitsyn’s The Gulag Archipelago in 1973. But it was soon overtaken by “cool” themes and forgotten.

And finally, when the Warsaw Pact finally collapsed, there was a historical moment when Soviet behaviour was revealed. In the late Gorbachev era, and during the Yeltsin era in the 1990s, books, TV documentaries and other publications appeared that described Soviet crimes, which naturally included Russian ones, and war crimes among all the other crimes.

Yet, in this period, Western leaders still hung back from condemning the USSR and Communism, which had spawned the behaviour seen in 1944 and 1945, and in Afghanistan in the 1980s. First, they strongly resisted former Warsaw Pact nations putting Communist criminals on trial, warning darkly of witch hunts and McCarthyism. A concrete example of this is something Central European nations fought tooth and nail for, an EU condemnation of Communism. Here’s what they got: “The European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism”  on August 23. By only condemning Stalin’s crimes, the EU in the most cowardly way gave Lenin, Khrushchev, Andropov and the rest a pass.

The simple point is that had Lenin’s Red Guards not overthrown the Provisional Government of Alexander Kerensky which was in the process of writing a modern constitution for Russia in the former Winter Palace of the Tsar, the violence and brutality of not only Tsarist Russia but also Soviet Russia – which was also reflected in the Red Army’s behaviour – might well have been brought to an end.

The Russian way of war

Which brings us back to the modern Russian army. It is clear from its doctrine that it is the direct follow-on from the Soviet Army. Besides combined arms tactics and a strategy that is based on an imaginary threat from the West, there is also very little leeway given to the junior ranks. This is important as it robs frontline soldiers of flexibility. For instance, in Western armies, if an infantry platoon arrives at the bridgehead that it has been ordered to hold in its written orders, but the commander, a second lieutenant, observes that the target is undefended, he would send a small reconnaissance team to the other side and possibly check to see if the bridge was mined. If all was clear, the unit would cross and take up a position on the other side of the bridge. This would greatly help follow-up units to cross the river or other obstacle.

By contrast, a Russian junior officer or sergeant would wait for orders from higher up the chain of command before acting, thus allowing the enemy to counter-attack and retake the bridge.

But why the looting, murders and rapes? The collective punishment tradition is one likely reason. The Russians appear to be “collectively” punishing Ukrainians for not wanting to join “Mother Russia”.  Poor morale and leadership would no doubt be another, and there is another, rather uniquely Russian reason. This is the unique relationship between what is “moral” and what is “legal” and how these ideas are interpreted by Russians versus Westerners.

According to numerous Western sources, such as the US Army Foreign Military Studies analysis, The Russian Way of War and Georgetown University’s study on the Soviet legacy in Russian ethics, Russians think quite differently about “right” and “wrong” than Westerners.

One well-known element of the Soviet military legacy is corruption in the higher ranks. Everybody in the former East Bloc knows a story or two about the Soviet colonel or similar rank building his dacha (holiday home) using stolen materials and conscript soldiers’ labour, who were simply given orders to fetch and carry bricks, wood or whatever as part of their military service. It should not be surprising that corruption was endemic in Communist societies, because there was no oversight and free media, nor a parliamentary opposition, and therefore no checks and balances.

The authors of the Russian Way of War point out that: “In Russia, whatever is considered ‘morally right’ is usually interpreted to be ‘legally right’”. They give the example of the Crimea, which was transferred from direct Soviet control to Soviet Ukraine by Nikita Khrushchev in 1954. The Russian leadership believes this to be wrong, and therefore their occupation of it was “legal”.

It’s only fair to acknowledge some allegations that Ukrainian soldiers have committed war crimes. In feverish atmosphere of war, it is bound to happen. Some of the Ukrainian top brass served in the Soviet Union’s war in Afghanistan; about a quarter of the troops there were Ukrainian. No doubt Ukrainian Afgantsy learned a thing or two about waging war according to Soviet methods.

However, in the current conflict, the Russians are the aggressors. Given that they have never acknowledged their criminal behaviour, whether in the Civil War, World War II, or their more recent actions in countries like Afghanistan, Chechnya and Syria, it is not surprising to see them failing to face up to their actions yet again in Ukraine.

Had Western scholars, diplomats, students and journalists faced their Soviet counterparts with hard questions about their rapes, looting and plunder in Belgrade, Budapest, Vienna and Berlin, perhaps we would not be hearing about Russian soldiers doing it all over again today.

U.S. Supreme Court To Hear Arguments in Lawsuit Seeking Reinstatement of Remain in Mexico Policy

By Bethany Blankley

Editors’ Note (Restated from 4/25): The following article is an excellent description of the southern border crisis, an open border threatening all citizens and the national security of the United States. The statement is often made that the Biden administration doesn’t have an effective policy to address this crisis. Our national headlines should be shouting that this crisis and invasion of our country is exactly the administration’s policy. With large numbers of Hispanic American citizens leaving the Democrat party, the radical leftists running the executive branch want many millions of non-skilled, unvetted illegal residents flooding into the country who will be highly dependent on government services and ultimately Democrat voters, whether legal or not, in the decades to come. Damn the fentanyl, the criminals, the terrorists, the cartels or any other factor undermining our national security and sovereignty – just flood the nation (yes, all fifty states) with illegals and the hell with American citizens – whatever it takes to maintain Democrat power is the goal. The previous America First policy controlling and protecting our southern border is now the Americans Last policy of the Biden presidency.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt are heading to the U.S. Supreme Court again on Tuesday, arguing the Biden administration must follow federal law and fully reinstate the Migrant Protection Protocols, otherwise known as the Remain in Mexico policy.

It’s the second time they’ve argued before the court in a lawsuit they filed against the administration since last April. Last August, the Supreme Court rejected the administration’s request to stay a lower court’s ruling requiring it to reinstate the MPP.

“Missouri and Texas filed suit after the Biden Administration suspended the policy and obtained a permanent injunction in federal court, and then successfully defended that injunction in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States,” Schmitt told The Center Square. “We look forward to presenting our arguments in front of the Supreme Court and continuing our winning streak against the Biden Administration,”

Last August, U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk of the Northern District of Texas ordered the administration to reinstate the MPP, ruling that halting it violated the Administrative Procedures Act. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Kacsmaryk’s ruling more than once, determining the administration also violated federal immigration law.

The administration argues the MPP is inhumane and has fought the AGs in court even after the Supreme Court’s decision. In its most recent filing with the Supreme Court, it argues that courts ordering the Department of Homeland Security to reinstate the MPP is “unprecedented.”

The MPP, enacted in 2019, applies “to aliens who have no legal entitlement to enter the United States but who depart from a third country and transit through Mexico to reach the United States land border.” It requires those seeking to enter the U.S. to remain in Mexico while their immigration applications are considered, which can take years.

On President Joe Biden’s first day in office, DHS announced it was no longer enrolling illegal immigrants into the MPP effective Jan. 21, 2021. Last February, DHS began processing MPP enrollees in Mexico and releasing them into the U.S.

Doing so, it said, was “to reform immigration policies that do not align with our nation’s values.” This was also part of a “first step in a phased approach to restore safe and orderly processing at the Southwest Border,” it said.

But the administration’s approach isn’t safe or orderly, it’s created chaos, Schmitt and Paxton argue.

“Before the Migrant Protection Protocols, illegal immigrants were released into the interior with a court date, never to be seen again,” Schmitt told The Center Square. “The Migrant Protection Protocols was a successful tool for curtailing the influx of illegal immigrants and securing the border.

“Because of the Biden Administration’s lax border policies, illegal drugs like fentanyl are streaming across our border and human traffickers are thriving,” he said, endangering and killing Americans in the process.

In addition to leading to increased criminal activity, Biden’s border policies are draining resources, Paxton said.

“President Biden could immediately remedy the influx of crime pouring across our border by reinstating the Migrant Protection Protocols,” Paxton argued when he filed the lawsuit. “Dangerous criminals are taking advantage of the lapse in law enforcement and it’s resulting in human trafficking, smuggling, a plethora of violent crimes, and a massive, unprecedented burden on state and federal programs for which taxpayers must foot the bill. We cannot allow this lawlessness to destroy our communities any longer.”

By last June, DHS expanded its criteria for MPP enrollees to be processed and released into the U.S. DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas also implemented a wide range of policy changes to effectively halt most deportations and directed CBP and Border Patrol agents to release illegal immigrants into the U.S. en masse.

Most of the 15,000 Haitians who initially arrived in Del Rio, Texas, last September and many of the two million illegal immigrants encountered or apprehended by Border Patrol during Biden’s first year in office, for example, wouldn’t have been released into the U.S. if the administration had complied with Judge Kacsmaryk’s order, the AGs argue.

Under the Biden administration, enforcement mechanisms don’t exist to ensure that illegal immigrants attend immigration hearings once they’re in the U.S., the AGs argue, and those with deportation orders aren’t being deported.

Last year, the administration acknowledged that more than 50,000 people released into the U.S. failed to report to their deportation proceedings and that court information was missing for 40,000 people in just a five-month period last year.

According to court filings, more than 1.2 million people with court orders for deportation were still living in the U.S. as of last February.

With the administration estimating that roughly 18,000 people a day will enter U.S. custody once Title 42 is repealed in May, the AGs argue forcing the administration to follow the law is imperative for the safety of Americans. Both Paxton and Schmitt have sued separately to keep Title 42, a public health authority that enables federal agents to quickly expel illegal immigrants during a public health emergency, in place. They’ve both called for Mayorkas’ resignation.

DHS announced it was reinstating the MPP in “good faith” last December but also argued that DHS has the authority to parole illegal immigrants, allowing them to stay in the U.S. while their cases progress.

The Fifth Circuit rejected the administration’s arguments.

Judge Andrew Oldham argued federal immigration law “… requires DHS to detain aliens, pending removal proceedings, who unlawfully enter the United States and seek permission to stay.”

Because DHS lacks the physical capacity to hold the volume of people entering the U.S. illegally, the MPP was implemented. The statute directs the government to return individuals to contiguous countries while their cases are pending, Oldham explained.

“That safety valve was the statutory basis for the protocols,” Oldham argued. “DHS’s termination decision was a refusal to use the statute’s safety valve. That refusal, combined with DHS’s lack of detention capacity, means DHS is not detaining the aliens that Congress required it to detain.

“The idea seems to be that DHS can simply parole every alien it lacks the capacity to detain. But that solves nothing: The statute allows only case-by-case parole. Deciding to parole aliens en masse is the opposite of case-by-case decision making,” Oldham argued.

The administration’s stance would have implications for the separation of powers, Oldham said.

“The Government also says it has unreviewable and unilateral discretion to ignore statutory limits imposed by Congress and to remake entire titles of the United States Code to suit the preferences of the executive branch. And the Government says it can do all of this by typing up a new ‘memo’ and posting it on the internet. If the Government were correct, it would supplant the rule of law with the rule of say-so.

“We hold the Government is wrong.”

The AGs are hoping the Supreme Court agrees with Oldham and upholds Kacsmaryk’s ruling.

Trump: ‘Deranged Group of Extremists’ Running US

By: Eric Mack, Newsmax, April 24, 2022:

Pulling no punches, former President Donald Trump excoriated President Joe Biden and his stumbling administration at his Save America rally in Delaware, Ohio, on Saturday night.

“In this moment together, we’re standing up against some of the most menacing forces, entrenched interests, and vicious opponents our people have ever seen or fought against,” Trump told his rally, which aired live on Newsmax. “Despite great outside powers and dangers, our biggest threat remains the sick, sinister, and evil people from within our own country.

“There is no threat as dangerous to democracy as they are. Just look at the un-select committee of political hacks and what they’re doing to our country while radical-left murderers, rapists, and insurrectionists roam free: Nothing happens to them.

“But no matter how big or powerful these corrupt radicals may be, you must never forget this nation does not belong to them. This nation belongs to you. This is your home. This is your heritage, and your great American liberty is your God-given right.”

Trump took particular aim at Biden’s struggles and embarrassing moments of late.

“We have a president right now, sadly, who has absolutely no idea what the hell is happening,” Trump said. “He’s shaking hands with the air. He’s walking around, somewhat bewildered.”

Trump referenced an incident Monday where the Easter Bunny was redirecting the president away from answering reporters’ questions during a children’s Easter event.

“It’s no good, and he’s taking orders from the Easter Bunny,” Trump continued. “You saw that one?

“You know, the Easter Bunny was a political operative. He did a good job, actually, that guy. We should hire that guy. He was very good. He said, ‘No, no, don’t talk, don’t talk; don’t talk to those people.’

“And [Biden is] doing all of this while [Vladimir] Putin does nothing but talk about nuclear weapons and destroying the world. We have our signals very crossed in our country. We have never had a situation like this.”……..

U.S. Extradites Former Honduran President for Drug Smuggling While Borders Are Wide Open thumbnail

U.S. Extradites Former Honduran President for Drug Smuggling While Borders Are Wide Open

By Michael Cutler

As the Biden administration prepares to end Title 42, a measure implemented by the Trump administration to help gain control over the U.S.-Mexico border, the former president of Honduras was extradited to the U.S. on drug trafficking charges.

Here is an excerpt from an NBC News report on the matter:

Juan Orlando Hernández, who was president of Honduras for eight years, was extradited to New York on Thursday to face charges of engineering a massive effort to flood the U.S. with cocaine.

The rare extradition of a former head of state followed Hernández’s arrest in February at his home in Tegucigalpa less than a month after he stepped down from office. The Justice Department accused him of participating in a violent drug trafficking operation that shipped 500 tons of cocaine from Venezuela and Colombia to the U.S. through Honduras.

“We allege that Hernández corrupted legitimate public institutions in the country — including parts of the national police, military and national Congress,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said Thursday. “And we allege that Hernández worked closely with other public officials to protect cocaine shipments bound for the United States. Because of these alleged crimes, communities in the United States suffered, and the people of Honduras suffered.”

The charges say he received millions of dollars for shielding drug traffickers from arrest and for facilitating their shipments.

Hernández, 53, took bribes from some of the world’s most notorious drug traffickers, including $1 million from Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, the former head of the Sinaloa cartel, “to protect his operations in Honduras,” said Damian Williams, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan, where Hernández will be prosecuted.

It is beyond belief that the Attorney General of the United States would tout the extradition of the former President of Honduras for participating in a massive narcotics smuggling enterprise while the Biden administration simultaneously works to undermine border security and implement policies that result in the release of dangerous criminals onto the streets of communities across the country.

If the radical Biden administration is concerned about narcotics flooding into the U.S. then it should implement measures to secure our borders instead of tearing them down.

Even before being sworn into office as president, Joe Biden made it clear that one of his primary goals would be to virtually dismantle the borders of the U.S.

Upon taking office, Biden immediately ended the construction of the wall which would have helped secure the southern border against the illegal or un-inspected entry of both aliens and commerce into the country.

It is essential to note that contrary to the lies of the globalists and open borders anarchists, the border wall was not intended to prevent the entry of anyone into the U.S. (the wall, after all, did not block ports of entry), but instead to funnel all international traffic to ports of entry so that commerce and people could be vetted and a record of entry created in order to protect national security, public safety, public health, and the jobs and wages of Americans.

I addressed the national security nightmare created by Biden immigration policies — which are in direct violation of the Constitution of the United States, our immigration laws, and the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission — in a recent article entitled, “For the Biden Administration, National Security Is ‘Mission Irrelevant.’”

As a direct consequence, historic numbers of illegal aliens around the world have flooded into the U.S., along with record quantities of narcotics and other contraband, resulting in record numbers drug overdose deaths.

The hypocrisy must end.

The DOJ prosecuting the former Honduran President for his alleged involvement in a drug trafficking enterprise while the administration simultaneously refuses to defend our nation and our citizens is a demonstration of unparalleled chutzpah!

I am certainly happy that the DEA is doing its job. As an INS agent, I spent roughly half of my 30-year career involved in major narcotics investigations. I was the first INS special agent to be assigned to the Unified Intelligence Division of the DEA in NYC. I was subsequently promoted to the position of INS Senior Special Agent and assigned to the Organized Crime, Drug Enforcement Task Force.

The administration’s policies are encouraging and facilitating the flood of deadly narcotics and criminals into the United States while enriching the violent and pernicious drug cartels and human traffickers who, thanks to Joe Biden, now have operational control over America’s borders.

American Hero Believed Dead At the Hands of Illegal Migrants, Drug Smugglers Whose Lives He Was Trying to Save

By The Geller Report

A Texas Army National Guard soldier assigned to Gov. Greg Abbott’s highly touted border operation went missing after trying to save a drowning migrant in the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass on Friday, the Army Times reported. The soldier jumped into the river just after 9:45 a.m., according to documents obtained by Military Times and The Texas Tribune. Despite removing his body armor before entering the Rio Grande, the soldier did not resurface.

There’s blood on the hands of every Democrat and RINO who supports this hostile invasion.

RIP American hero https://t.co/k4QndvxQC7

UPDATE 3 – Texas National Guard Soldier Missing

By: Texas Military Department

AUSTIN, Texas (April 24, 202) – The Texas Military Department continues the search for Texas Army National Guard Specialist Bishop E. Evans. A comprehensive interagency search began on Friday morning when SPC Evans went missing following his selfless efforts to rescue two migrants who appeared to be drowning while crossing the river from Mexico into the U.S.

With the Texas Rangers as the lead for the continued investigation, the Texas Military Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Border Patrol have tirelessly worked through search and rescue teams in an effort to locate SPC Evans. Dive teams were forced to halt their operations yesterday evening as the river’s current continued at an increased pace, making dive operations very challenging. Search and rescue operations began again early Sunday morning, with the addition of three airboats from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

SPC Evans, 22, a field artilleryman from Arlington, Texas is assigned to A Battery, 4-133 Field Artillery Regiment in New Braunfels Texas, and joined the Texas Army National Guard in May 2019. He returned in the fall of 2020 from mobilization to Operation Spartan Shield in Kuwait. During this mobilization, his dedication, talents, and tactical prowess led his leadership to regularly assign him to operations in Iraq in support of Special Operations Forces for short periods of time, while then rotating back into Kuwait

The mission of the Texas Military Department (TMD) is to provide the Governor and the President with ready and trained forces in support of the citizens of Texas and State and Federal civil/military authorities at home and abroad.

The Texas Military Department is commanded by the Adjutant General of Texas, the state’s senior military official appointed by the governor, and is comprised of the Office of State Administration (formerly the Office of the Executive Director), the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG), the Texas Air National Guard (TXANG) and the Texas State Guard (TXSG).

On Leaders and War: Ideological transformation in the West after Ukraine thumbnail

On Leaders and War: Ideological transformation in the West after Ukraine

By Howard Rotberg

We are at a turning point and we have the opportunity to make the post-Ukraine world a better one with better values and ideologies and leadership by better people.

NOTE: This is part Two of a two-part series. Part One is entitled Leadership in a Time of Crisis: Israel and America

“The presidency is not merely an administrative office…It is pre-eminently a place of moral leadership.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

“For Russia, there is not and there may not be another political option but democracy. However, Russian democracy is… not at all the realization of standards imposed on us from outside.” – Vladimir Putin

For many years now War has been an alien concept in the West, especially for the Woke Left. When it came to Afghanistan, President Biden knew his base would not object if he just pulled out the troops, leaving American allies to their fate, and gifting billions of dollars of military equipment to the Taliban. Perhaps war was seen as something America was unsuccessful in, and should avoid at all costs.

For many years the West does not judge leaders, their own or others, by the Biblical standards of morality. The last time we did so was after the 1991 to 1999 wars in the Balkans where Slobodan Milošević and Radovan Karadžić were tried for war crimes. One can be cynical and note that in conflict, the winners get power and wealth and the losers get war crime trials.

After Vietnam, Americans simply refused to see the wars around them, especially those in Africa or other parts of the “Third World”. With a viewpoint that sees conflict in the context of “power” relationships, the West could ignore much of what should have been obvious. For example there is a very definite war by radical Islam (termed the “Islamists”) against the rest of the world. Its focus has been in Africa and especially countries that bordered the Muslim world.

The West has opened its borders to those from a culture of rape, terrrorism and hostility to women, gays, Christians, and (most of all) Jews. The West ignored the long history of genocidal practice and intent by Islamists and the radical Leftists against Israel. The West has refused to even do a proper vetting of those Muslims who wish to perfect the demographic war by Islamists in the West, which war is actively promoted by our universities and some media.

One egregious example is Angela Merkel who imported from Syria close to a million young single men and then had to live with the consequences of rapes and other sexual assaults by the immigrants who sought to carry into the West their culture of rape. The Germans, most in the world, should understand that culture and ideology were the foundations of the Third Reich just as they are today for terrorism and genocide.

Who in the West in the last dozen years cares much about the war on the Yazidis, the Chinese war on the Uyghurs, the war against Israel by Hamas and Iranian proxy Hezbollah?. Who speaks out for the African Christians and others kidnapped, terrorized and murdered by Islamist thugs from Africa? Who cares about the Islamist war in the Phillipines or Iran’s explicit threats since at least 1996 to acquire nuclear weapons and use them against the more than six million Jews in Israel at the same time as they manipulate history to claim that there were not six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust?

To the secular West, war was viewed as the practice of religious zealots, not woke Western elites. And so, ignoring all context, and imputing racist motives to white males only, our elites have been fighting a “culture war” – where diversity and inclusion, and cultural relativism and moral equivalency have become the lenses through which our cultures view the world. Spending on defense was for reprobates like Trump even though military strength is our best defense against war.

There is no understanding and little empathy in the West for Israel’s situation of having to fight wars almost continuously against Arabs and Iranians who quite clearly advance their position that Israel is illegitimate and must be destroyed.

Not understanding the real world, our ideologues turned their attention to implementing Critical Race Theory, miseducation of children especially in their moral education, now replaced by woke promotion of the LGBTQ agenda, transgenderism, BLM, and the bizarre hatred evidenced in Israel Apartheid (sic) Weeks.

American President Joseph Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau won elections notwithstanding multiple known ethical breaches. Don’t people care anymore?

The policies of the Biden Administration have been exactly wrong in every area and, looking at recent polls showing rapidly declining support for the Democrats, that has become apparent to the population now inflicted with inflation due to runaway spending, an open border at the south, defunding police, no bail policies for even dangerous criminals, homelessness in wealthy cities, abuse of process against Trump and his supporters when no legal process was commenced against the BLM rioters and murderers – and giving priority to attempts to control the climate and adopt “green” policies promoted by a now-famous 17 year old girl and self-serving members of the plethora of NGOs to employ the otherwise unemployable over-production of unskilled university graduates.

Our young people would benefit from the study of moral leadership, and that study should include such leaders as Winston Churchill. It should also include studying the very worst of leaders in America.

It is my contention that the evil invasion of Ukraine by the Russians and their evil dictator and, especially, the moral turpitude of bombing civilian residences and laying waste to a beautiful country, may well become a turning point in the ideological confusion of the West. That confusion was based on secularism and a turning away by Christians and Jews from Biblical notions of good versus evil. When we become loath to judge the character of leaders on the basis of biblical standards, there are repercussions. Why did Americans vote for a corrupt politician like Biden who, together with his son Hunter, were obviously corrupt? Why are we so little interested in how it is our politicians leave office with ten times the amount of their entire accumulated salary?

For our populations, from young to old, never experienced the Second World War with its bombing, massive land battles, its Holocaust, of little interest to most of the world as it happened, and the Allies’ eventual victory, which in Japan was the product of nuclear bombs. When I was a child in the 1950s, the placement of Russian weapons in Cuba and President Kennedy’s ultimatum were enough to make us all fearful of nuclear world war between the only two countries then possessing such weapons. Yet today when North Korea and China are armed to the hilt and yawns are the reaction to a treaty with Iran allowing it to get nuclear weapons in less than a decade even though it has not respected the previous treaty – and has in fact promised to use its eventual nuclear weapons against Israel and then the United States – these threats are of little interest.

The War on Ukraine, however, may be the catalyst for change – where the world will pay more attention to evil dictators. We should abandon what I call “tolerism” – the virtue signaling excessive tolerance of evil.

Evil regimes now understand that controlling the flow of information, from television cameras to social media, is an essential part of the propaganda war attached to every conflict. Evil countries, like evil people, know that the manipulation of images is the first step in public relations victories. Think of the fake images used against Israel – where the photo of an alleged injured Palestinian youth held down by an Israeli soldier was in fact the photo of an injured Yeshiva student from Chicago; or where the supposed convoy of dead Palestinian Arabs covered with sheets was exposed when the men carrying one “body” tripped and the fellow under the sheet ran off.

But such lies and immoral practices are harder to produce when reporters are embedded in wars in the West – Ukraine being the center of attention. Now every person with a cell phone is a reporter, so every massacre can be witnessed by dozens of people, from every angle, although technological manipulation in the aid of fake news is possible.

With respect to professional journalists, Russia is disallowing free reporting. For example, journalists are not supposed to call the war by the accurate word, “war” but are to term it a “special military operation” to “demilitarize and de-Nazify” Ukraine.

Americans and Europeans alike are aghast at Putin’s invasion – but even more so at the war crimes of attacking residential buildings, hospitals and the like. Even old nuclear contaminated sites like Chernobyl have been disturbed and newer nuclear sites are not off-limits to the Russians, who may now control the largest nuclear power plant in the country.

Even though Ukraine has a good army, it is much dwarfed by the size and weapons of Russia. The fact that most Ukrainian men between 18 and 60 are mandated to stay in the country and fight, and that everyday Ukrainians are using rifles against tanks and students are manufacturing molotov cocktails useful only in a lengthy occupation and insurgency, has captured the opinion of those in the West who have never before seen Europeans, that is, the West, in full view of the cameras, fight a very bloody war. The fact that President Zelenskyy vowed to stay in the country and lead the David versus Goliath fight has resulted in an emotional groundswell of support for the Ukrainians.

Ukraine itself is not without blemishes, to put it mildly. Antisemitism and murderous pogroms in the late 19th century and early 20th century drove hundreds of thousands of Jews to emigrate to America and Canada – and that was preceded by the Cossack massacres. The Ukrainians were as vicious as the Nazis and volunteered to help run death camps. Zelenskyy is himself Jewish and had family members, including a grandfather, killed by the Nazis, Those knowledgable about modern day Ukraine know of the corruption there, and the highest number of neo-Nazis in all of Europe. That is why Putin said one of the reasons for the invasion was to “de-Nazify” Ukraine. But this is not relevant to the supporters of Ukraine, who see this like a rationale for controlling Covid by the murder of its carriers.

The majority of the secular west, has not often seen people who are so willing to take up small arms and fight to the end. That way of understanding nationhood is unknown in our increasingly globalist world. And the students whose passion and justice-seeking has been corrupted by the professors and media elites turning their attention to Israel, are perhaps being re-educated to understand the evil side are in fact those who invade and kill, not those who seek to protect by walls or military operations against those invaders.

When Putin says Russia and Ukraine are one country, whether the Ukrainians like it or not, that is the equivalent of Arabs saying all of Israel is their country and they are, like Putin, willing to do whatever it takes to enforce that.

It is now known that Russia conspired with its new best friend, China, to delay the start of the invasion until after the winter Olympics. While the West was asleep and while Western businessmen and politicians cemented close relationships with China, China has amassed huge assets and influence around the world, including American farmland. Now it seems to many that China will use the present geopolitical situation to finally attack and subdue Taiwan. It is hard to argue with those who warn that economic sanctions against the invaders must not transition to military conflict between nuclear powers. But the lines are not clear. Russia is said to be using cluster bombs and thermobaric weapons, which, if true, is a type of mini-nuclear war.

The largest transformation resulting from the Ukraine war, may be the realization that energy and national security are two sides of the same coin. Biden has been unduly influenced by the radical leftist part of the Democratic Party, which is itself highly influenced by the climate-justice warriors. And as a result of this war, the West is learning just how wrong-headed it has been to give priorities in energy policy to these naifs. America, thanks to Trump’s policies, had become energy self-sufficient by the end of his administration. On day one of Biden’s tenure he canceled the Keystone pipeline to Canada and began an attack on oil and gas drilling, fracking and exploration. So a country with lots of energy began to buy 10% of its needs from Russia, and the revenue to Russia was in essence a way to fund the war against Ukraine.

Those who promoted the insane policy of giving power to Russia have the blood of Ukrainians on their hands. With an inability to end conventional energy supplies for notions that wind and solar and batteries for electric powered cars could empower the world’s largest economy, there is proof that relatively clean oil from the U.S. is less dangerous to climate than dirtier oil from Russia and coal-burning energy plants in China.

There is a lot of geopolitical nonsense which is starting to be noticed, none sillier than attacking the western world for unproven effects on climate while the reductions in energy supply will be taken up by countries that care not a whit about pollution.

But, more than energy, ideology and culture are the main issues. This is the most important result of the war. Without a war in Europe (except for the war in the former Yugaslavia) the people of the west have been misled by notions of cultural relativism and moral equivalency to believe that all leaders of all peoples are more or less moral. In my own country of Canada, Prime Minister Trudeau on the death of Cuba’s murderous dictator, said Castro was a “remarkable leader”. And when asked which countries he admired, he mentioned China due to its ability to turn on a dime to implement economic policies.

In a recent Canada Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), interview, Oleksander Danylyuk, of the Ukrainian Institute of Defence Reforms, made the point (that has been heard elsewhere) the Ukrainians see themselves as fighting not just on behalf of their country, but on behalf of all western civilization. We might learn something from them.

Americans, to me, look like fools for voting in Biden to replace Trump, when you look at Biden’s unwise policies at home and abroad. I was appalled at the number of times Trump was called a “white nationalist” or a white “supremacist” or even a Nazi. Too many educated people in the West do not know the difference between Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump. But perhaps Putin’s immoral and genocidal actions are now waking up Americans and Europeans to the fact that the ex-KGB operative is not just a more authoritarian version of Trump, but is the opposite. All those Americans who couldn’t tell the difference should apologize to what is left of the Ukrainian people.

However, there is an important matter which has been kept secret by most of the American media (except for Miranda Devine of New York Post and a few courageous colleagues) and most of Democratic Party elites who know the truth. This matter is the serious corruption and kickbacks and other substantial financial benefits given to the Biden family by Ukraine, and to a lesser extent by Russia, and by China.

Biden is “owned” by China. And Putin and the Chinese have enough criminal evidence against the Biden family, that at a time of their choosing these enemies of American freedom and ideology may well decide to use the evidence in a way that could seriously damage American interests; we don’t know for sure what will happen when irrefutable proof of the Biden family corruption is given to the American people – but a return to expecting the powerful to be moral might yet be a better “reset” than other matters that Biden and the socialists and globalists have in mind.

It seems probable that Putin will be successful at seizing certain Ukrainian territory but holding on to it may be more difficult. In a world of high tech communications, and social media, Putin will not be able to hide from Russians the world-wide sympathy for the Ukrainian people as they bravely fight against all odds. Nor will he be able to hide the economic effects of sanctions and other boycotts that will affect not just the value of the currency but small and large businesses and employment figures.

It is already apparent that Russia will have big problems administering conqyered cities when the local people are willing to fight until death. Short of bombing and demolishing every structure, we are likely to see people adopt the model of the first “conquered” city of Kherson where a day after the conquest, thousands of residents took to the streets for a large protest, unafraid of their Russian masters. Videos show, for example, one protester jumping on top of a Russian military vehicle while waving a Ukrainian flag. In another city, a resident lay down on the road in front of a tank – thus showing contempt for Russian power.

What a clear lesson we are seeing in the power of the people, even Russians, to thwart all the power of Putin. And what a lesson for the future is the refusal of President Zelensky to flee the country but to stay and fight with the people, even with the knowledge that there are special Russian forces looking to assassinate him. We must understand that in the future Americans will not elect again weak and corrupt leaders like Biden but will emulate the brave Ukrainians in their ideology of nationalism tempered by liberal democracy and will likely reject the globalists’ attempts to weaken nationalist movements with pride in their cultures..

Germany broke its long-standing policy to give military equipment to Ukraine. Many countries in the West are now sanctioning and isolating Russia. This is how it should be. There is a growing understanding that if you don’t like war, you must judge all policies such as energy and cultural and ideological matters(such as support for Israel and the leftist-Islamist intersectionality) by how much they support peace not war.

Putin has done us a favor by showing the West that we must be on guard against evil. We must understand that being “pro-peace” requires actions to undercut those who are evil and who use war as their ideal means for getting and keeping power. But supporting BDS (Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions) against Israel alone is an indication of antisemitism, not peace-making.

Being on guard against evil leadership might just be the catalyst for a new ideology of freedom and a positive nationalistic culture rather than globalism, Marxism, woke restrictions on freedom, cancel culture, relativism, moral equivalency and miseducation of our young.

We are at a turning point and we have the opportunity to make the post-Ukraine world a better one with better values and ideologies and a leadership by better people. One way to get better leaders is to watch the incompetence of American Vice-President Kamala Harris, and learn the lesson that competence and morality make for a better choice than one based on gender and skin color.

China Lectures Sweden On Muslim Rights After Riots!

By Save America Foundation

Foreword by Fred Brownbill: The Bidens close friends and confidante China, is now giving advise to other countries on human rights! Really! Read this report from Patriot Alerts. Enjoy.

Following the riots on Easter weekend in Sweden, China is trying to take on a new role as the global standard for preserving human rights by lecturing the Swedes on respecting Muslim religious rights.

The violent rioting started after Rasmus Paludan, a representative of the Stram Kurs party, said that he had burned a copy of the Quran. He planned told hold a rally on Easter Sunday but the riots persuaded him to not go through as planned.

At least 200 people were involved in the riots that lasted 3 days. Nine officers were injured on Friday and on Saturday several vehicles including a bus were set on fire in protest of Rasmus Paludan’s planned rallies.

Three rioters were injured by ricochet as police fired towards protestors in an effort to quell the violence.

According to DW, the Sweden’s Justice Minister, Morgan Johansson ordered the rioters to “go home” but he also slammed Paludan as a “fool.”

During an interview with Aftonbladet on Sunday, Sweden’s Justice Minister Morgan Johansson told the rioters to “Go home, immediately.”

While labeling Paludan a “right-wing extremist fool, whose only goal is to drive violence and divisions,” Johannsson said that “Sweden is a democracy and in a democracy, fools also have freedom of speech.”

“Those who attack the police are criminals. There is no other way to deal with them than to put up a hard fight,” he insisted.

This Wednesday, China took the opportunity to criticize Sweden.

“Freedom of speech cannot be a reason to incite racial or cultural discrimination and tear society apart,” said Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of China’s Foreign Ministry, referring to the incident that triggered widespread condemnation across the Muslim world.

“We hope Sweden can earnestly respect the religious beliefs of minority groups, including Muslims,” Wang said, according to the Chinese daily, Global Times.

It is laughable for China to criticize Sweden as it comes at a time when the Chinese government is oppressing over a million Muslims, using forced sterilization, forced labor, and constant surveillance.

In a recent report, Ilham wrote about the struggles her father and the Uyghurs in China indure.

Ilham, whose father has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Chinese government for standing up for Uyghurs, opines that the situation has worsened since her father’s detention in 2013.

The government has rapidly accelerated its campaign of oppression with forced sterilization, forced labor, constant surveillance, and other abuses making it impossible for Uyghurs to survive in China, she writes.

According to a 2020 Chinese government white paper, around 1.29 million people in Xinjiang were subject to vocational “training” annually between 2014 and 2019. However, the Chinese government has advocated its campaign against the Uyghurs as “poverty alleviation” and preventing terrorism, describing detention centers as “vocational training centers” where Uyghurs are educated and given the skills to thrive economically.

With China’s “training centers” subjecting Uyghurs to indoctrination and the renunciation of their language and religion, it is clear that the Chinese government’s vision of re-educating Uyghurs is premised on the erasure of their culture and the denial of their basic human rights, according to Ilham.

Tidal Wave Nears Border, but Team Biden Goes Full Steam Ahead

By Jarrett Stepman

Editors’ Note: The following article is an excellent description of the southern border crisis, an open border threatening all citizens and the national security of the United States.

A disaster is looming.

President Joe Biden appears to be going full steam ahead on ending Title 42. This is the health policy, created in the 1940s and implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under President Donald Trump, that allowed the swift deportation of illegal immigrants during the pandemic to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

It has been one of the few things keeping the exploding southern border numbers under even the slightest control during the Biden presidency. The administration announced it would end Title 42 on May 23, but according to Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin, it is starting to peel it away even sooner.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently released its March statistics for illegal immigrant border encounters. It’s a sign of what’s to come.

In total, there were 221,303 encounters along the southwest land border in March, a 33 percent increase compared to February,” the agency reported. “Of those, 28 percent involved individuals who had at least one prior encounter in the previous 12 months, compared to an average one-year re-encounter rate of 14 percent for FY2014-2019.”

Of course, many others came through without being apprehended.

The March numbers are the highest monthly total in two decades. And this is before Title 42 is set to be discontinued.

It’s not just raw numbers of illegal border crossers that are worrying. According to the agency, over 40 migrants on the terror watchlist have been apprehended since Biden became president. These are people who have been known to be involved in or are “reasonably suspected” of being involved in terrorist activity.

The U.S. Border Patrol is already swamped. In March, Customs and Border Protection estimated that, in addition to the over 221,000 encounters, over 60,000 border crossers slipped through without being apprehended—about 2,000 per day. Drastically increasing the total numbers of those attempting to cross the border—which will inevitably happen if Title 42 is rescinded—puts the country at risk that more potential terrorists will slip through.

When Biden was considering ending Title 42, a handful of border state Democrats warned him against it. But now that he’s made the announcement, the list of Democrats in opposition is growing. One of the opponents is Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.

Several Republicans on the committee wrote him a letter in early April expressing deep concern about what ending Title 42 would mean for the country. Peters seemed to have been receptive to the message.

“Unless we have a well-thought-out plan, I think it is something that should be revisited and perhaps delayed,” Peters said to reporters, according to The Hill. “I’m going to defer judgment on that until I give the administration the opportunity to fully articulate what that plan is. But I share … concerns of some of my colleagues.”

The entire situation conveys the impression that the Biden administration is reckless and partisan and that it caters to the most extreme voices on its left flank. It’s part of the toothless Caesarism that we’ve become used to over the past year. The administration does its best to create vast restrictions on Americans at home, but does nothing to protect the American people or our interests from threats abroad.

If the administration really does think it is necessary to end Title 42, it could at least show some commitment to options that would help maintain order at the border. Biden has even failed to do that.

Predictably, the administration has chosen to do everything to remove those options, too.

The Biden administration has done everything in its power—or beyond its power—to eliminate the Migrant Protection Protocols—better known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy. The policy, like Title 42, was created under Trump and was designed as an answer to President Barack Obama’s “catch and release” border policy.

The Remain in Mexico policy makes it so asylum-seekers—those claiming to flee war zones, political violence, or persecution—must wait in Mexico while applying for asylum in the U.S. It deters people who may want to come to the United States with bogus asylum claims. Once in the country, many dodge their court dates or never get a court date at all.

Biden ended the Remain in Mexico policy on Day One of his presidency and is now engaged in a legal battle to put the policy entirely off the table.

So, what’s the administration’s plan if it gets its way? The Wall Street Journal editorial board did a good job of explaining what’s on tap:

The administration’s alternative seems to be a new policy that would let federal asylum officers grant residence to most claimants, rather than wait in the queue for Justice Department immigration judges. The asylum officers approve claims at a higher rate than judges, who weigh more seriously whether a claimant is fleeing genuine danger. That message will spread throughout Latin America as further incentive to make the trek and cross the border seeking asylum.

Battling the Remain in Mexico Policy, combined with ending Title 42 and the general lack of support for Border Patrol, suggests that the administration isn’t willing to uphold American law and protect our border.

Instead, it is doing everything in its power to not only keep those floodgates open but to open them even wider, forcing the American people to pay the price for its recklessness.

Endgame For the Fed: Is Checkmate Coming? thumbnail

Endgame For the Fed: Is Checkmate Coming?

By Mark Wallace

For more than 40 years, the Federal Reserve has fostered, encouraged, and otherwise helped to create the most reckless credit expansion in the nation’s history. Total credit market debt of all varieties — federal, state, local, household, financial and nonfinancial – has ballooned from 330 percent of gross domestic product in 1960 to over 900 percent of gross domestic product in 2021. Adjusting for the size of the economy and for inflation, we now have three times as much credit and debt as we had in 1960.

In many ways, credit can be a wonderful thing. It can enable a worker of meager financial means to acquire a motor vehicle that will allow him to take a job otherwise inaccessible to him via public transportation. It can enable a young married couple to buy a house and to build equity in that house over the 30-year term of the mortgage or deed of trust. Credit can enable an entrepreneur to buy a business and to do a better job of running the business than the previous owner was able to do.

The expansion of credit on a nationwide scale is expansionary in economic terms because virtually no one borrows money to put it under a mattress. People borrow money to spend it, whether on goods and services or on investment assets. The spending of borrowed money on goods and services buoys the real economy, creating demand for a product that would not otherwise exist. It also buoys investments, such as stocks, bonds, and real estate. For example, real estate rises in price because of the availability and price of credit. If you doubt this, ask yourself this question: if it were totally impossible to borrow money to buy a house if you could buy a house only by paying the full purchase price in cash, how much would houses sell for? The answer is obvious, isn’t it? They would sell for far, far less than they sell for today.

Although taking on more debt puts money into a borrower’s pocket, debt service — paying interest and principal — takes money out of that borrower’s pocket. That means less money the borrower has to buy goods and services or invest. Overall economic effects on the nation, though, are determined not on an individual borrower basis but on the basis of all the borrowers and lenders — on a nationwide basis, in other words. As long as credit and debt are expanding on a nationwide basis, expansionary economic policies remain in effect. The economy remains robust, unemployment rates remain low, and for the stock and bond markets it’s “party on, Garth.”

But what happens if, for whatever reason, credit and debt (the mirror side of credit) begin to decline on a nationwide basis? Should that occur, the amount of money flowing into goods and services into the purchase of goods and services would decline, as would the amount of money flowing into investment assets. In economic terms, this is contractionary. Because the amount of credit and debt outstanding is in the trillions, if the magnitude of the contraction in total credit outstanding were sufficiently severe, the resulting economic contraction could quickly turn into an economic depression far exceeding anything this country or any other country has ever experienced. Society would unravel.

The Fed has striven mightily to prevent this from ever occurring. The Fed’s response to economic developments in 1987, 200-2002 and 2007-2009 has been the same: “flood the market with liquidity.” Do whatever needs to be done to keep total credit from contracting, because that will spell disaster. If credit does indeed contract in large amounts, the Fed will be exposed as having run the greatest Ponzi Game in history. The truly massive amount of debt it has created — measured not in the billions but in the tens of trillions — will be the fuel for a giant crash. As Warren Buffet famously said, it’s not until the tide goes out that you learn who has been swimming naked. It’s no accident that Ponzi games such as Enron and Madoff Securities are not exposed until the stock market crashes.

The Fed’s tools to prevent a devastating credit contraction and crash — flooding the market with liquidity — don’t work to curb rising inflation. Flooding the market with liquidity would only make inflation worse. The Fed’s tool to combat inflation is to raise interest rates — to raise debt service requirements. That is where the Fed is now. Consumer price inflation is bubbling along at an 8.5 percent rate (the highest in 40 years). Producer prices are galloping at an even higher rate: more than 11 percent. When inflation was 7.6 percent in 1978, the Fed pushed the federal funds rate to 8.5 percent. And now, with inflation higher than it was in 1978, where is the federal funds rate? At 9 percent? No. At 8 percent? No. At 7 percent? No. It is at 0.33 percent!

The Fed is hugely behind the curve. The most recent rise was a paltry one-quarter of one percent. The Fed is clearly terrified at the prospect of raising interest rates, otherwise, the rate increase would have been at least one full percentage point or more. The Fed is demonstrating by its actions that it is not serious about fighting inflation. It is gambling that inflation will subside of its own accord, with little help from the Fed.

If over the next six months to one year, inflation does indeed subside, with the federal funds rate rising to perhaps 1 percent or 1.5 percent, the Fed will be shown to have made the correct decision. But no one has a crystal ball in that regard.  If the inflation rate keeps advancing, and we have double-digit consumer price inflation six months or one year from now, the Fed’s hand will be forced. Serious interest rate increases will be required. In that scenario, the probability that the Fed will err, either on the upside (raising interest rates too high and creating a market panic and resulting crash) or on the downside (runaway, Weimar-style inflation as a result of tepid interest rate boosting) hugely increases.

The historical precedents here are strongly against the Fed. The market can panic more quickly than the Fed can counter the decline by lowering interest rates and engaging in “quantitative easing.” Note that 2000-2002 was a more serious downturn than 1987 and that 2007-2009 was more serious than 2000-2002. The trend is clear. The next downturn likely will be far worse than 2007-2009 if the Fed errs in the direction of raising interest rates too far or too fast. The reason for this is that declines are generally roughly proportional to the amount of total credit market debt outstanding.

To date, the equities markets have come back after each drubbing, but if a decline goes far enough, that pattern may not necessarily repeat. Instead, we may end up in a Japanese/Nikkei scenario where equity prices in 2050 or 2060 are lower than they are today. Note that the Nikkei is lower now in 2022 than it was 33 years earlier in 1989. In Great Britain, following the disastrous South Sea Bubble, equities went into a more than 50-year bear market.

The historical precedents are not any better if the Fed errs on the downside and allows inflation to really get out of control. Inflation has a way of accelerating, as the Weimar experience shows. (The source of the data that follows is “The Great Disorder” by Professor Gerald D. Feldman, a 900-plus page tome that will tell you more about Weimar Germany than you ever wanted to know). In August 1914, the dollar exchange rate of the paper mark in Berlin was 4.21— one U.S. dollar would buy 4.21 marks. At the time of the Armistice in November 1918, it was 7.43. Things became steadily worse after that. By January 1922, one U.S. dollar would buy 191.81 paper marks. Relatively speaking, though, that had been a walk in the park compared to the complete and utter disaster —- resulting in the total destruction of the mark, and I do mean total —that unfolded beginning in August 1922 and finishing up a mere 16 months later in December 1923.

In August 1922, one dollar bought 1,134.56 paper marks. By June 1923, one dollar was buying 109,966 marks. Was that the end of it? No, things got worse, much, much worse. Two months later, in August 1923, one dollar would buy 4.6 million marks. One month after that, in September 1923, a dollar would get you almost 99 million marks. In October 1923, the exchange rate was 25 billion paper marks for one U.S. dollar. By December 1923, one dollar would get you 4.2 trillion marks.

One conclusion that may be drawn is that it took only about five years for inflation to destroy the mark. Another is that when things really get out of control, as they did for Germany beginning in August 1922, the end is nigh, as little as 16 months away.

In conclusion, the Fed is now sailing between Scylla and Charybdis, between the monster of a stock market crash and resulting depression on one hand and the whirlpool of runaway inflation on the other. Despite an 8.5 percent inflation rate, the U.S. dollar has remained strong. Across the Pacific in Tojo-land (Japan), the Japanese yen has been rapidly depreciating. Japan is even farther along the economic-profligacy scale than the U.S. is. The ratio of debt to GDP is far higher. The Japanese economy has been aptly described as “a bug in search of a windshield.” Keep an eye on Japan: it may provide an important clue of what finally happens when monstrous credit and debt expansion over decades (especially sovereign debt) goes off the high board.

Child Sex Offender Deported TEN Times in 2-years is Arrested Again in Texas

By Jihad Watch

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that open borders allows full opportunity for the worst criminals and jihadists to infiltrate any migrant stream and freely enter a country.

Man Deported 10 Times in Two Years Arrested Again in Texas

by Bob Price, Breitbart, April 20, 2022:

Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a pair of previously deported child sex offenders after they illegally re-entered Texas. One of the migrants had been deported 10 times over the past two years.

Del Rio Station Border Patrol agents arrested 42-year-old Humberto Alvarez-Peralta on April 13 after he illegally crossed the border from Mexico into Texas. A biometric background investigation revealed the Mexican national received a conviction in a Liberty, Texas, court in 1997 for sexual assault of a child, according to Del Rio Sector Border Patrol officials.

Officials report the immigration history for Alvarez-Peralta includes 10 deportations during the past two years. The most recent occurred just last month.

The following day, Comstock Station agents arrested a Mexican national, 63-year-old Hipolito Hernandez-Acosta after he illegally entered the U.S. A records check discovered a conviction in Georgia in 1995 for statutory rape, officials stated.

Court and immigration records for Hernandez-Acosta reveal a lengthy criminal history and a record of three deportations — the last in March 2022….

Weekend Read: A Witches’ Brew of Negative Trends thumbnail

Weekend Read: A Witches’ Brew of Negative Trends

By Neland Nobel

So, the witches’ brew in summary is sky-high stock valuations, extraordinarily high debt burdens, rising interest rates, rising inflation rates, inverting yield curves, a bond bear market, supply chain crisis caused by lockdown, energy price shock, food price shock, war, radical social change, monetary regime upheaval, and poor political leadership.

Having spent almost all of a professional career in financial services dealing with clients, it is easy to attest that almost all periods of time have hazards for the investor. It was always worthwhile to remind investors, who longed for what they thought were the “good old days” that it always has been difficult.

There are always adverse trends and perverse political developments. But within that, there continues to be human progress. Much of it has been technological, but unfortunately little of it has been social or moral progress.

Living through this period was instructive, but if you are younger, you will need to read some history to fully understand.

Just a brief history should remind us all that the “good old days” were full of difficulties such as raging inflation and war in the 1960s and 1970s.  Remember how unsettling The John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Bobby Kennedy assassinations were? You can add to that race riots, Watergate, defeat in Viet Nam, the Iran hostage crisis, and the Crash of ’87?

Or how about the Russian default, the Thai-Baht crisis, the collapse of Long-Term Capital Management, the tech bubble of 1999, or the crash of 2007?

Along the way, we had several large wars in the Persian Gulf.

You might remember we got a twofer in 2007-2008, the dual pleasure of a housing bust and banking crisis, followed by a stock market bear crash.

Go back even further and you have Sputnik, the U-2 incident, the Suez Crisis, Hungarian Revolt,  the Korean War, and two World Wars.

The stock market peaked in 1966 and did not return to those highs in inflation-adjusted constant 1966 dollars until 1995. Much of this occurred in what many regard as a better time in the country’s life.

In an earlier period, if one had purchased stocks in 1928, it took until 1956 to break even in inflation-adjusted terms.

Since the crash of 2008, we have had an uncommonly good run in stock values, including inflation-adjusted levels. The last few incredible years are not even shown on the chart.

The point is the “triumph of the optimists” has always carried both the stock market and economy eventually higher, although the progress was uneven. Sometimes there is a pause for years, even decades. Only in hindsight does it seem easy.

Thus, in the long term stocks, and the nation, have persevered. But there can be setbacks that take years to mend. This is particularly dangerous for older people who don’t “have the long term.”

Markets cycle. That is what they do. They go up and down, but generally more up than the down. The same is true of the economy in general.

Having set the context, we admit it would be hard to think of a similar period that had more toxic trends to deal with than the one we face today. And remarkably, almost all of them are the product of deliberate policy choices.

The question before us then is this: will this toxic brew of problems seriously set back the stock market?

What is truly scary is that any one of the trends we are about to mention, by themselves, has often caused a recession. But rarely do we see such a cluster of such potentially powerful adverse trends together, reinforcing one another when just one of these is dangerous enough on its own.

Right now, investors face a historically overvalued stock market and real estate market. Yes, expensive markets can surprise and just get more expensive. But expensive markets are also vulnerable and once they turn, the downside risk is magnified because of the gross departure from reasonable historic value.

If there is one “iron law” in market history, it is a reversion to the mean. Remarkably, so far the stock market still hovers not far from its highs and has taken only a mild correction.

Rapidly rising interest rates, especially when accompanied by inversion of the yield curve (short-term rates move above long-term rates), have reliably signaled recession. We are now seeing that as the FED must regain some credibility after uncorking the worst inflation in 40 years. Either they raise rates sufficiently high to kill off inflation by reducing demand (a recession), or we let the inflation fires burn uncontrollably for years. This is not a very good set of choices.

The rise in rates has been so far been largely disregarded by the stock market but the bond market is being hit hard. The bond market is much larger than the equity market so this loss is certainly just as important as what goes on in the stock market. But, it does not get the attention of the public.

Debt levels are far worse than they were 40 years ago. In 1980-1982 when Reagan and Volker were driving rates to nose bleed levels, Federal debt as a percentage of total output was about 30%.

Today, debt to GDP is 130%, or more than four times greater relative to output, and in many countries, it is substantially higher than that.

The cost of debt service is a function of two things: the amount of debt and the interest rate paid to borrow. Today the amount of debt is so much higher than before that interest rates well below the 1980 peak could clobber the economy and the Federal budget. How high do they go before they hurt?  Who knows?

Whether the borrower is a government or a business, or a homeowner, rising rates on a huge pile of debt normally create default at the margin. Credit spreads (the interest rate between secure paper and speculative paper), are widening, indicating rising rates are beginning to bite and induce distress.

So far one country, Sri Lanka, has gone bankrupt. We fear they won’t be the last or the biggest.

During the prior periods previously mentioned, the world went through several flu epidemics and the polio crisis. The government never quarantined the healthy, such as the lockdown policies we have seen over the past two years. We also never saw the government print $7 trillion dollars and hand out money to anyone who could fog a mirror.

Lockdown has royally screwed up the world’s supply chain because except for perhaps Sweden, most of the world followed the U.S. model, which in turn, followed the model of China. As the West now emerges from lockdown, China, the manufacturing hub of the world, is once again going back into lockdown in their most populous city. That is not going to help the supply chain crisis.

Then along came Russian aggression in Ukraine, which is upending the world’s energy and food markets, and increasing defense spending. Usually, a rapid rise in energy costs alone can cause a recession. Now we get to add to that a food crisis.

For reasons cited in previous articles, the West’s response to Russia, the sanctions but particularly the seizing of central bank assets, is likely to induce a change in the international monetary structure. Once again, simply this painful adjustment, has often by itself, been sufficient to cause a recession.  The monetary crisis of 1971, preceded the 1973-1974 stock market crash, which was the worst at the time since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Again, it is not surprising that these difficulties came during a time of political upheaval (Watergate). Weak political leadership often occurs during economic crises. Inflation raged under Carter, a weak and indecisive President.

Clearly, political leadership is weak today, or perhaps even worse, it is senile.

We won’t even go into social and moral upheaval although many students of history point to 1966-1968 as a similar period. As mentioned before, the stock market peaked and did not recover to its previous highs for almost 30  years. We seem to be moving from men and women wanting to have sex without restraint (the sexual revolution born in the late 60s) to the abolition of what male and female even mean. Where will this trend end and how much damage will it do to society?

The changes in social conditions in “The Roaring Twenties”, also gave birth to the sober 1930s with the onset of the Depression.

Do social and moral upheaval cause these economic problems? It is unlikely they are the cause, but moral confusion does seem to accompany economic upheaval. We will leave that one to the social historians but that the two trends tend to come together is of concern.

So, the witches’ brew in summary is sky-high stock valuations, extraordinarily high debt burdens, rising interest rates, rising inflation rates, inverting yield curves, a bond bear market, supply chain crisis caused by lockdown, energy price shock, food price shock, war, radical social change, monetary regime upheaval, and poor political leadership.

If that list is not sufficient, we have one more to add that seems unique to economic history. In the past, when faced with difficulties, political parties tended to compromise for the benefit of the country and its citizens.  After all, people elect politicians and politicians often are pragmatic.

Today’s Democrats are such harsh ideologues, especially the fanatical environmentalists, that things we could normally do as a society to ease the pain (such as drill for more energy while Russia is using energy as a weapon), cut more timber to lower construction costs, plant more acreage to grow food, and mine more metals to reduce our dependence on hostile sources like Russia and China, are taken off the table. They simply can’t be considered for ideological reasons.

Today’s Democrats would rather starve the world than bend at all on their quasi-religious belief that all climate change is caused by man’s activities. There is a strong anti-human element that has converted reasonable conservation into a religion that puts the earth first and mankind second.

Their central planning instincts have gone manic. Hubris has run amok. Unable to even clean up homeless encampments or keep the streets safe, or stop the spread of Covid, they earnestly believe they can actually change the climate of the earth in 100 years. That the earth’s climate is always changing for a variety of reasons is lost on them. They believe that they, and they alone, are responsible for altering something as complex as the earth’s temperature cycles.

Their false belief that our economic activity is an existential risk to the earth is now a real existential risk to our safety,  freedom, national security, and standard of living.

Can you imagine during World War II, a political party arguing that we should not produce more energy because losing to Hitler is better than increasing carbon emissions? But indeed, Democrats are maneuvering us into energy and mineral dependence on both Russia and China, which will sacrifice our freedom and standard of living, to their earth god.

Whether they intend this policy straight jacket or even realize this, is immaterial. But their heated and fervent resistance narrows greatly possible responses to problems.

This development imposes a paralysis on possible policy options that transcends political disagreement and gets into the realm of religious war. It is hard to compromise on religious beliefs especially when they become government policy and are thus forced on others by law. Indeed, that is what has caused religious wars.

What is also baffling is that their religious practice is imposed on us, while giving rivals like China, Russia, and India a free pass. Why is Chinese carbon better than ours?

This is hardly helpful in dealing with the toxic brew of negative trends that we must respond to. Dealing with inflation has always been difficult enough without the complication of religious war over the earth god. The price of energy is being deliberately driven higher, and thus inflation higher, to force the world to adopt the policy proscriptions of the rabid environmentalist.

If the stock market can get through recent highs, and the nation avoids recession, it will be remarkable. The question remains:  is that a bet we are willing to make?

Air Force Launches ‘Safe Space’ for Airmen and Navy Issues Maternity Flight Suits! What?

By Royal A. Brown III

I was recently sent links to two columns about our U.S. Air Forces and U.S. Navy.

First the U.S. Navy:

In an August 8th, 2021 Newsweek article titled “U.S. Navy Unveils First-Ever Maternity Flight Suit Prototype”   reported:

The U.S. Navy has unveiled a prototype for its first-ever maternity flight suit. [click here to see the maternity flight suit]

The suit is designed to accommodate pregnant aircrew during pregnancies by adding expandable panels to standard flight suits. That way, expectant mothers will need only the one suit throughout their pregnancy.

“Prior to the maternity flight suit, pregnant aircrew have generally collected larger-sized flight suits and gone up through additional sizes throughout their pregnancy, potentially needing three to five additional flight suits,” said Lieutenant Commander Jacqueline Nordan, who received the first maternity suit earlier this year, in a press release.

The project is being spearheaded by the Naval Air System Command’s Aircrew Systems Program Office at the request of the Commander, Naval Air Force Reserve.

Second the U.S. Air Force:

In an April 19, 2022 Fox News article titled “Air Force launches ‘safe space’ for airmenBradford Betz reported:

The U.S. Air Force has launched a new initiative called “Airmen’s Time” which, among other things, aims to create a “safe space” where service members can share perspectives with their commanders.

“The intent of Airmen’s Time is to create a safe space, be present, and ensure that our Air Force culture invites healthy conversation for every Airman…anytime, anywhere,” reads a memo, obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, that was recently sent to commanders.

The memo, written by Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Joanne S. Bass and General USAF Chief of Staff Charles Q. Brown, Jr., states “building trust and belonging is never a one-time event – it is a daily commitment to those we serve.”

A former U.S. Marine friend of ours wrote the following:

I wonder if today’s Air Force remembers the 1949 movie 12 O’clock High with Gregory Peck.

At Quantico, in 1981, at TBS, WOBC) we watched the movie 12 O’clock High then had group discussions about “Battle Fatigue” (PTSD today).

The Air Forces safe space was a Bomber surrounded by German fighter planes.

Well the Air Force (DoD) was once full of real warrior leaders.  Wonder what General LeMay would have to say about today’s “Safe Spaces,”

On 21 JAN 2025, I would really like to see President (Trump or DeSantis) make several announcements.

1. Anyone and everyone who wants to be an Army Ranger/Special Forces, Navy SEAL, Marine Force Recon, Air Force/Navy/Marine Corps fighter pilot can become one simply by applying. Want to be an Admiral, General, Sergeant Major? Astronaut? You can be whatever you want to be. Send in a $50 administrative fee to the appropriate branch of service and two weeks later, SHAZAM!!! You will receive in the mail, a certificate of completion, and any badges/tabs/insignia etc. to prove to your mother that you are an actual genuine hero. As a plus, you will never have to worry about stolen valor issues. There will be bundle packages for multiple certifications. And you can do it all from your mom’s sofa.

2. Effective immediately all US military facilities and equipment, worldwide, will be transferred to a new agency, the American Camping Club.

3. Effective immediately, all Flag Grade officers are retired. All current military personnel that are eligible for retirement are now retired. All other personnel will be given the appropriate discharge.

4. All diversity/inclusion/equity programs will be disbanded. All CRT training will be disbanded. All “moslems are better than you” programs will be terminated. Climate Change training will be handed over to FOX Weather Channel. And since no one has been able to document any Extremists/White Supremists etc. in the ranks, we can drop that stuff too.

5. The Department of Defense will be renamed, Legion of Heroes and will be based at the former Naval Air Station near Ottumwa, Iowa. The Secretary of Defense will now be re-branded as the Receptionist of Defense and will hold the classification of GS-7. The administration of the separate branches will be handled by a GS-5 and two GS-3s. This staff of ten civil servants can choose to be whatever military title/certifications they desire and the application fees will be waived.

6. The three service academies will be closed and the facilities and grounds will be transferred to the American Camping Club. They will be reopened as Hudson High, Canoe U, and Uncle Sky’s Flying Crown Ranch. Curriculum will be limited to various aspects of killing bad guys and blowing shit up.

7. Membership in the American Camping Club will be limited to males who are required to meet the USMC physical fitness standards for males in place during the Reagan administration. We will be creating a supporting auxiliary for medical services. Female persons desiring to join would have to meet the USMC physical requirements for females in place during the Reagan administration.

8. I realize this may cause some disruptions in the existing DOD. My answer is Let’s Go Brandon!

Thank you and I might add, Drill Baby, Drill.

Just my $.02

The patriotic; extremely brave; totally competent; confident to the edge of arrogance (but not arrogant); hard charging; risk taking; combat mission oriented (but cared for their men); sometimes cussing and drinking; transformative leaders and manly men imbued with a warrior spirit of the pre-Obama/O’Biden military wouldn’t fit well with today’s top military leaders who often violate their oath of office.

My Dad, Col. Royal A. Brown Jr. (1923-2003) was one of the 5 Aircraft Commanders flying an HH 53 Jolly Green Giant at night (including mid-air refueling) into North Vietnam on the 1970 Son Tay POW raid, which was the highlight of his 33 years as a warrior spanning 3 wars (WW II, Korea, Vietnam). He and his crew sat on ground outside the POW camp for over an hour waiting to pickup any of the Raider team or diversionary attacking fighter aircraft shot down that night and;, in fact, picked up an F4 crew which was shot down.

Dad is appalled and rolling over in heaven at what has become of his once great Air Force which was chock full of real warriors.

Following is his patch from flight suit. Bottom of Mushroom – KITD/FOHS stands for “Kept in the Dark/Fed Only Horse Shit” symbolizing the 4 months he secretly trained in the wilds of Eglin AFB for the mission – OPSEC was so tight, they didn’t know exact time, place of mission until they took off for Vietnam. We were living in Florida and didn’t even know he was there since he was pulled from Danang, AFB to train for this mission and couldn’t phone us. Mail from him was even postmarked from Vietnam where he was stationed as a Jolly Green Squadron Commander. Too bad, the intelligence was off as POWs were moved a few days before BUT not a total failure since this raid scared NVA so bad they moved all POWs to Hanoi Hilton afterwards where they could better communicate with each other. Also, Son Tay Task Force security teams deployed along road leading to the camp, ambushed and killed a bunch of Chinese and Soviet Advisors living at a camp near Son Tay when they jumped into vehicles and came down road to see what was going on at Son Tay. This fact was classified for many years afterwards.

May God Continue to Bless America!
