The Author Who Warned Us Against Blindly Trusting ‘The Science’

By Foundation for Economic Education (FEE)

Thomas Kuhn’s 1962 work “The Structure of Scientific Revolutions” revealed why we should not confuse scientists with science.

“Attacks on me are, quite frankly, attacks on science,” said Anthony Fauci to widespread ridicule or approval, depending upon which side you are on. If you doubt his judgment personally, you must not believe in “the science.” Fauci went on to claim that all of the “things he’s talked about” were “fundamentally based on science.”

Let’s put the weasel words aside and recognize that what he wants you to believe – that all his official policy recommendations (“all the things I’ve talked about”) were firmly proven effective through application of the scientific method – is demonstrably false. The most rigorous, most scientific studies show precisely the opposite.

Fauci was a proponent of what has become to be known as “lockdowns,” the widespread closure of businesses and/or stay-at-home orders for the general population. Dozens of studies show this had no demonstrable effect on the spread of Covid-19. As one after another came out, Fauci went on talking about lockdowns as if this evidence did not exist.

Now, there are studies being conducted every day on this or that aspect of Covid-19 and I’m sure Fauci and his supporters can produce links to some that support lockdowns. While there are no absolutes, here is a general observation: the most scientific studies – the randomized controlled trial studies with large sample sizes measuring results in the real world – tend to point towards the inefficacy of nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs). NPIs include (anti)social distancing, masks, and lockdowns.

Less scientific studies – those with small sample sizes or based on laboratory experiments rather than experience in the real world – tend to point towards efficacy. Remember the experiment on mannequins wearing masks? You get the picture.

Let’s not forget that early in 2020 Fauci said a study based on a single case of asymptomatic spread of Covid-19 “lays the question to rest.” And guess what? It turned out the patient documented in the case had never been asked if she had symptoms. When it turned out she was symptomatic at the time of transmission, the study was unpublished. Subsequent studies failed to prove asymptomatic spread was significant. A December 2020 study looking at secondary attack rates within the same household – published right on the NIH (Fauci’s agency) website – says it’s miniscule if it exists at all.

Yet, Fauci goes on talking as if this study doesn’t exist. He has no choice. Without asymptomatic spread, there is no justification for lockdowns or mandating masks for asymptomatic people.

On a rare occasion where the largely useless national media confronted Fauci with a question about how Texas could be doing so well four weeks after abandoning all Covid restrictions, he had no answer. “Maybe they’re doing more outside,” he mused. Then, he went on recommending the same policies as if the question had never been posed.

Fauci wasn’t alone. When White House coronavirus advisor Anthony Slavitt was asked why locked down and masked California and restriction-free Florida were having similar results in terms of Covid spread, he began his answer with perhaps the only honest words that have escaped a public health official’s mouth: “There is so much of this virus that we think we understand, that we think we can predict, that is just a little bit beyond our explanation.” But then, in literally the same breath, he said we do know masking and social distancing work.

Now, you don’t have to be a trained journalist for the obvious follow-up question to occur to you: “No, Mr. Slavitt, the question I just posed to you suggests we don’t know masking and social distancing work because we are seeing equivalent results in states that are and are not following those policies.”

Of course, that follow-up was not put to Slavitt. And you really have to ask yourself why.

The failure of scientists to be scientific is not a new phenomenon. Thomas Kuhn’s The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962) dealt directly with the tendency of scientists to reject evidence that contradicts the prevailing theory or “paradigm.”

“Part of the answer, as obvious as it is important,” wrote Kuhn, a Harvard educated philosopher of science, “can be discovered by noting first what scientists never do when confronted by even severe and prolonged anomalies. Though they may begin to lose faith and then to consider alternatives, they do not renounce the paradigm that has led them into crisis.”

Kuhn’s overall thesis challenged the prevailing understanding at the time that science proceeds in a linear fashion, with new discoveries incrementally adding to the accumulated knowledge that preceded them. Instead, argued Kuhn, science throughout history has featured a series of revolutions, where paradigms like the geocentric theory of the solar system or Newtonian physics collapsed under the weight of “anomalies” (evidence which contradicted the theory) and made way for new paradigms like the heliocentric theory of the solar system and Einsteinian physics.

There is much nuance in Kuhn’s argument which his critics have tended to ignore, but one takeaway that we’re seeing proved in real time is that these scientific revolutions are only revolutionary because of the tendency for scientists to cling to a theory regardless of evidence that refutes it. Kuhn argues that scientists will not abandon a disproven theory until a new theory is presented that they are convinced explains the evidence better than the old.

What makes the New Normal so strange is that a scientific revolution occurred with no anomalies. It was firmly established by a century of scientific research that suggested nonpharmaceutical interventions weren’t effective in combating respiratory viruses. Indeed, Fauci himself initially repeated the established scientific consensus that lockdowns and mask mandates were not effective policy responses. He even discouraged people from voluntarily wearing masks.

Then, he and the rest of the government scientists did a complete about face. There was no new evidence that motivated this. They simply abandoned the prevailing scientific consensus based on a desire to do something – even though the scientific evidence before, during, and after the outbreak of Covid-19 said what they wanted to do wouldn’t work. As a result, there is now a New Normal paradigm based on…nothing.

It should be noted that there were plenty of non-government scientists protesting vehemently right from the beginning. The authors of the Great Barrington Declaration were already loudly protesting lockdowns as early as April 2020. Others contested asymptomatic spread, the mortality rate initially reported (they were right), and the efficacy of masks.

Here is the problem. This New Normal paradigm can’t collapse in the face of anomalies, no matter how numerous they are, because the anomalies are now simply ignored. Anyone who calls attention to them, no matter how credentialed or qualified, is systematically discredited.

In such an environment, unsubstantiated assertions like “Covid-19 spreads asymptomatically” and “lockdowns and mask mandates work” continue to form the basis of policy. The same goes for vaccine mandates.

It’s not that evidence against New Normal science can no longer be found. Much of it is available right on the websites of the government agencies denying it. It is simply a matter of saying “no” when governments and media demand you refuse to believe your lying eyes and obey.

Obedience has a price. We will be feeling the economic effects of lockdowns for many years. An entire generation of children will suffer psychological damage from being forced to wear masks during their most formative years. The damage to society as a whole from lockdowns, mask mandates, and (anti)social distancing policies may be immeasurable.

Neither can you simply go along to get along until things “get back to normal.” If and when the COVID Crisis finally ends, there is a Climate Crisis already teed up to begin as surely as night follows day. It will feature the same breathless media propaganda and ignoring of contrary evidence as did the COVID Crisis. The cost this time will be a significantly and permanently lower standard of living for you and your children.

That’s the price of obedience. Are you willing to pay it?

Woman Not Charged for Stabbing Store Clerk Who was Defending Himself Against Her Violent Boyfriend thumbnail

Woman Not Charged for Stabbing Store Clerk Who was Defending Himself Against Her Violent Boyfriend

By Martin Mawyer

Here’s our recent episode of Shout Out Patriots:

Bodega store clerk charged with murder after defending himself

As Jose Alba, 61, was being violently assaulted by a man in a Harlem bodega, the store clerk grabbed a knife in self-defense and fatally stabbed his attacker.

The confrontation began when a female customer didn’t have sufficient funds on her EBT debit card to purchase a bag of chips for her daughter.

The unidentified mother became angry when he refused to hand over the bag of chips for free. She promised to have her boyfriend, 35-year-old Austin Simon, come “f***” him up, which she did and then Simon did.

After tossing Mr. Alba around in the store, Mr. Simon demanded the store clerk apologize to his girlfriend. Simon then grabbed the clerk by the collar and proceeded to drag him, presumably to force an apology to his girlfriend.

Alba picked up a knife from a counter as he was being manhandled and reportedly stabbed Simon five times, killing him. The girlfriend also got into the fray, pulling a knife from her purse and stabbing Alba four times.

The prosecutor’s office, headed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, charged Alba with second-degree murder and demanded a $500K bond, which a judge reduced to $250k. Unable to afford the hefty bail, the elderly store clerk was escorted to the notorious prison, Rikers Island.

After a public outcry, the judge had a heart and reduced Alba’s bail to $50,000, something he could afford. Mr. Alba was then released from jail.

And what about the unidentified girlfriend who stabbed Alba four times?

She wasn’t charged at all. The prosecutor’s office decided SHE was the once acting in self-defense, not Alba.

Wait! The woman threatens violent harm against the store clerk, brings in her boyfriend to “eff” him up, then stabs him four times, but SHE is the one acting in self-defense?

Rightly did the editorial board of the NY Post write:

“Thanks to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, New York is a city turned upside down…Jose Alba needs to be free. Alvin Bragg needs to be out of office.”

In this episode of Shout Out Patriots, our team pounces on George Soros and his handpicked prosecutor, Alvin Bragg, for ignoring a fundamental right of all Americans—the right of self-defense for the INNOCENT!

SMOKING GUN: Joe Biden Lied, Had Dozens of Meetings with Hunter Biden’s Business Partner

By The Geller Report

Is anyone going to enforce the law in this lawless rogue regime?

Overwhelming Evidence: Joe Biden Lied, Had Dozens of Meetings with Hunter Biden’s Business Partner

By Matt Margolis, PJ Media, July 17, 2022:

Joe Biden has repeatedly denied having any knowledge of his son’s business dealings or ever speaking to him about them. Yet over the years, evidence has surfaced that suggests Biden was a key power player in Hunter’s schemes.

Now, according to Hunter Biden’s personal calendar, which was found on his abandoned laptop, we know that between 2008 and 2016, Hunter met with his dad at least 30 times at the White House or the vice president’s residence after returning home from overseas business trips. As The New York Post notes, these meetings “raise questions about whether Hunter was relaying messages to his father on behalf of foreign clients, and cast new doubt on the president’s repeated denials that he had any role in his son’s shady overseas business dealings.”

Further incriminating Joe Biden is the fact that Eric Schwerin, the president of Hunter Biden’s investment company Rosemont Seneca Partners, was “named as a calendar invite recipient on 21 of 30 listed meetings, with a green check frequently indicating his confirmed receipt of the invite for meetings with the vice president.”

Previously released visitor logs from the Obama administration indicate that Schwerin visited the White House 19 times between 2009 and 2015.

During the 2020 presidential campaign, Biden also denied having any knowledge of Hunter’s dealings with Ukrainian energy company Burisma, which gave Hunter an $83,333-per-month position on their board, despite his having zero experience in the energy sector, while his father was the Obama administration’s point man on Ukraine. Yet, in 2019, a photo was leaked showing the Bidens golfing with Hunter’s fellow Burisma board member Devon Archer. White House visitor logs also show that Devon Archer and Chris Heinz, both co-founders of Rosemont Seneca, visited the White House in 2009 and 2011.

Documents reviewed by Just the News and the Government Accountability Institute earlier this year also showed that Joe Biden was very much financially involved with Hunter and even allowed his son to pay some of his bills. And emails and text messages show that Joe Biden’s involvement included “diverting one of his tax refunds to his son, rubbing elbows with [Hunter’s] foreign clients and even directly referring a friend who wanted to ‘do some work’ with his son.”

Joe Biden was often referred to as “Pop,” the “big guy,” and “my chairman” in certain delicate communications, and these communications show that Biden looked to Hunter and Schwerin to help expand his wealth after leaving the vice presidency in 2017.

“Hardly a day goes by without another revelation about how intimately involved Joe Biden was with his son Hunter Biden’s corrupt foreign business dealings. The fact that Joe was in meetings with senior foreign leaders on behalf of Hunter and his business associates while Vice President further proves that Joe has been lying to the American people,” Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) told the New York Post. Stefanik has promised to investigate Hunter Biden should Republicans win back the House in November.

Judge Blocks Biden’s LGBTQ Guidance that Allows Transgender in Girls’ Sports and Bathroom Access thumbnail

Pushback. Finally.

Judge Blocks Biden’s LGBTQ Guidance that Allows Transgender in Girls’ Sports and Bathroom Access

By Jim Hoft, July 17, 2022:

A Trump-appointed judge in Tennessee temporarily blocked Biden’s woke LGBTQ policy on Friday, including transgender workers and students to use gender-appropriate bathrooms, and participate in sports teams, Reuters reported.

U.S. District Judge Charles Atchley Jr. ruled in favor of the 20 state attorneys general who sued the Biden administration saying the directives infringe on states’ freedom to establish laws governing transgender.

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Knoxville by Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery last August and was joined by Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, and West Virginia.

In the ruling, Judge Atchley prohibited the federal agencies from enforcing the orders issued by the Biden regime regarding the treatment of LGBTQ people.

More from Reuters:

A coalition of 20 Republican attorneys general brought a lawsuit last year against the federal government, noting that they stood to lose significant federal funding as the Biden directives were in conflict with their own state laws.

Atchley agreed with that, writing in his order that the states “cannot continue regulating pursuant to their state laws while simultaneously complying with Defendants’ guidance.”

This happens all too rarely and it’s a shame because it allows leftists and the media to turn their latest monster into a martyr with soft-focused photos and sketches.

Arabella Yarbrough says she thought she and her 2 kids were going to die Wed. night, after she says Tekle Sundberg fired these shots through her apt. She says she called police. What started as a rally for a man shot and killed by Minneapolis Police quickly took a turn after the mother of two nearly hit by bullets while inside her apartment showed up to share her story on Saturday afternoon.

Arabella Yarbrough was cooking food for her children Wednesday night when she says Tekle Sundberg fired bullets into their home, nearly hitting them. Police responded and helped Yarbrough escape when according to police, Sundberg also fired at officers. That led to a six-hour standoff outside the building that lasted until MPD snipers killed the 20-year-old early the next morning.

“I literally had five minutes to live while he had six hours to choose life or death. The police stated they did not want to kill him,” Yarbrough told Fox 9.

Activists are still “demanding answers”.

People gathered Saturday afternoon to honor Andrew ‘Tekle’ Sundberg while demanding more answers after he was shot and killed by law enforcement on Thursday morning.

The answer here is pretty obvious. The only question here is “What the hell is wrong with you people”.

Two Minneapolis police snipers shot Sundberg early Thursday morning, ending a six-hour standoff that began when police were called to the apartment complex at around 9:30 p.m. on a report of shots being fired inside the building. A mother with two young children called 911 and told dispatchers someone was firing shots through their apartment.

Minneapolis police spokesman officer Garrett Parten said the fatal shots were fired around 4:30 a.m. following six hours of negotiating with the man, who had barricaded himself inside an apartment on the 900 block of 21st and East Franklin Avenues in the Seward neighborhood.

According to a search warrant, while officers were attempting to evacuate the building, “officers started taking fire,” prompting them to leave the building and call the Minneapolis SWAT Team.

More answers are clearly needed, as to why this took six hours.

But the idiots who adopted him and their lawyer still insist that Tekle should still be alive and shooting at people.

His parents, Cindy and Mark Sundberg, adopted Tekle from Ethiopia when he was just four years old.

“My heart goes out to that woman (Yarbrough). She went through a very traumatic event with those bullets coming through her house,” said Mark Sundberg.

Along with their attorney, they empathized with the terror Yarbrough felt that night, but say their son should still be here.

“It’s two different incidents. It’s the shots going through her (wall) and what we are here for, when Tekle was shot,” said Mark Sundberg

I’m thinking it’s the same incident. Much like Hitler invading Poland and shooting himself in the Fuhrerbunker.

“We can do both things. We can feel terribly for this woman, but also remember that Tekle should be here with us and he should be alive and we can ask the Minneapolis Police Department to do better,” said the Sundberg family attorney, Jeff Storms.

The MPD should do better. It shouldn’t take six hours to put down a gunman who’s shooting at people. That’s a worse record than Uvalde. It should take 15 minutes or less.

Do better.

‘Peak climate insanity’ — Manchin Rejects $2 Trillion Pork Barrel Climate Spending Bill

By Marc Morano

Morano: “I liken it to they compare the climate crisis to having cancer and the green energy transition, the Green New Deal is their version of chemotherapy. Yeah, you’re gonna be sick, you’re gonna be vomiting, you’re gonna be laid up, but just when you get to the other side of that, you’re gonna be cancer free or in this case, climate crisis-free. So in their minds, this is the necessary bitter medicine that we have to go through — that the Netherlands is going through. What Sri Lanka is going through. What Germany and England are going through, as they’re facing blackouts and energy shortages and economic devastation and inflation.”

Climate activists are ‘completely unhinged’ after Manchin decision: Climate publisher – Fox News Channel – Broadcast July 16, 2022

Climatedepot.com publisher Marc Morano praises Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., for rejecting a climate spending bill and slams climate activists for pushing ‘necessary bitter medicine’ solutions to the climate.

Rough Transcript:

Will Cain: Climate spending bill potentially doing any major green legislation before the midterms…So does (W.VA) Sen. Manchin make a good case here with reaction is Marc Morano, publisher of ClimateDepot.com. Marc, great to see you this morning. You know, I think it’s unavoidable. It’s interesting what happens overseas what is happening across the world. You know, we’re seeing precursors of it right here back home when not that’s food shortages in Sri Lanka, climate change proposals in the Netherlands. And here’s Joe Manchin, seemingly standing in the way at least in part of some of this stuff, making it back to the United States.

Marc Morano: Yes, I’ve already said Europe is much further ahead with the insanity of their energy policy than the United States. So if you want to know what’s going to happen in the US, look to Europe, and we’re seeing devastating energy news in Europe. And what Joe Manchin did — what he did was phenomenal. It reveals that just insanity of the current climate energy movement, Green New Deal movement if you will, he pulled out of this deal that they were trying to push on him with all sorts of bribes on the climate bill that President Biden is pushing the build back better $2 trillion.

And the New York Times quoted a University of California professor who said she was ‘sobbing’ at this news. (Dr. Leah C. Stokes on Twitter: “Manchin says he won’t support the climate bill. I’m holding my children and sobbing.

Sen. Chuck Schumer is ‘shell-shocked’The House Budget Committee Chairman said ‘we’re all going to die’. We have a climate activist Bill McKibben actually saying that Joe Manchin’s name is going to be a geologic era in the Earth —  that Manchin is altering the geologic history of the earth.

They are completely unhinged because one politician is not going to support a pork barrel spending bill, which they somehow think is going to save the planet. Just another pork barrel spending bill in Washington somehow has this power.

We’ve reached peak climate insanity.

Kudos to Joe Manchin for withstanding the pressure he’s under. He’s had activists and events surrounding him in the street chanting, ‘We want to live’ surrounding him not even letting him walk this video footage. They have targeted him, the climate activists, the Green New Deal activists, and he has stood strong and not given into their demands.

Will Cain: So Marc, how do you explain the insanity? Do you think that the likes of Chuck Schumer and others look across the world and see what’s going on with hyperinflation and food shortages and think it’s disconnected from climate policies or do they think that you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet that it’s worth, you know, it’s worth a little human suffering to save the habitat?

Marc Morano: You’re spot on Will. That’s exactly what they think. When you hear everyone from Transporation Sec. Pete Buttigieg to Treasury Sec. Janet Yellen. They believe this is going to be a painful transition, but it’s necessary.

I liken it to they compare the climate crisis to having cancer and the green energy transition, the Green New Deal is their version of chemotherapy. Yeah, you’re gonna be sick, you’re gonna be vomiting, you’re gonna be laid up, but just when you get to the other side of that, you’re gonna be cancer free or in this case, climate crisis-free.

So in their minds, this is the necessary bitter medicine that we have to go through — that the Netherlands is going through what Sri Lanka is going through what Germany and England are going through, as they’re facing blackouts and energy shortages and economic devastation and inflation.

It’s all worth it because we’re going to solve the climate crisis, which is nuts because even John Kerry, the U.S. climate envoy said if the US and Europe zeroed out our emissions the Earth wouldn’t even notice in terms of CO2 emissions because China, India, the developing world’s economies are ramping up so fast that global CO2 emissions are going up. So if we were trying to save the planet, just hamstringing our economy and punishing our people has no impact on global emissions.

Will Cain: You know what I would love to see Marc, and we’ll leave it here. But I would love to see their description of the planet post — in your analogy, chemotherapy. What is their description because we have that they have told us piecemeal, it’s fewer humans on this earth? So it’s less population. I’m sure it’s not going to apply to them and their families. You know, it’s less impact on the earth. So whatever that means shorter lifespans, fewer people, less human flourishing. I’d like to know Bill McKibben, his description of a healthy planet because I think we wouldn’t all agree with the picture of health.

Marc Morano great to talk to you this morning.

Marc Morano: Thank you Will.

“We’re all going to die”: Dems irate at Manchin for tanking climate change part of new BBB bill – “We’re all going to die,” House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth, D-Ky., told reporters when asked about the consequences of Congress failing to act… “Unfortunately, we have one Democrat who thinks he knows better than every other Democrat,” he said…

Economic chaos is GOOD for climate?! NYT praises inflation as way ‘to drive welcome change for the planet’ – ‘Adjust what we eat to save both our pocketbooks & our planet’

Climate Depot’s Marc Morano: “The New York Times seems bent on updating Gordon Gekko’s phrase from the 1987 film Wall Street: Chaos, for lack of a better word, is GOOD. Climate activists in academia, the Biden admin. and the media seem to think the more humans suffer, the more the planet will benefit. This is more evidence that economic calamity, debt, inflation, supply chain issues, and skyrocketing meat and energy costs are not the unintended consequences of the climate agenda, but the INTENDED consequences. Chaos conditions the public to accept more centralized control of their lives. Natural Immunity Offered More Protection Against Omicron Than 3 Vaccine Doses, New England Journal of Medicine Study Finds

Importantly, the Cornell University-funded study found that both natural immunity and vaccines offer “strong and durable protection” against Covid-related hospitalization and death.

News reports say the Biden administration is currently weighing a plan that would allow all adults to receive a second Covid-19 booster, citing concerns from White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci about the spike in hospitalizations “fueled by the extremely contagious omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5.”

Currently second booster shots are only offered to individuals over the age of 50.

Meanwhile, discussion of a potential fifth shot is already underway. During a recent television appearance, CNN host Don Lemon asked CNN medical analyst Jonathan Reiner if such a scenario is likely.

LEMON: “That was my next question, I’m giving away my age because I’ve already had four shots, I’ve had two boosters, so I’m over 50.”

REINER: “Me too.”

LEMON: “So are we going to get a fifth shot? We’re going to have to have a fifth shot?”

REINER: “Yeah, probably.

The discussions highlight certain realities of Covid immunization.

“Immunity wanes,” Fauci said during a White House briefing on Tuesday, “whether that’s immunity following infection or immunity following vaccine.”

While it’s true that immunization wanes, new scientific research from The New England Journal of Medicine suggests natural immunity lasts longer than immunity acquired from vaccines.

The study, a case–control analysis based on data from Qatar collected from December 23, 2021 through February 21, 2022, involved millions of people, including 1,306,862 who received at least two doses of the Pfizer vaccine (BNT162b2) and 893,671 people who received at least two doses of the Moderna vaccine (mRNA-1273), as well unvaccinated individuals.

The results of the study are a mixed bag for the vaccines.

The best news is that “any form of previous immunity, whether induced by previous infection or vaccination, is associated with strong and durable protection against Covid-19–related hospitalization and death.” (In other words, both vaccines and natural immunity reduce the risk of hospitalization or death from Covid.)

Also good news is that both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines “enhanced protection among persons who had had a previous infection.”

“The combination of prior, full vaccination and prior infection was maximally protective,” researchers said in a summary of the study’s findings released last month by the Weill Cornell Medicine Newsroom. “Individuals with prior infection and three doses of either mRNA vaccine were, overall, nearly 80 percent protected from symptomatic infection during the omicron wave.”

But the study also found that two doses of vaccines offered “negligible” protection against Omicron infection.

“A key finding was that a history of vaccination with the standard two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccine, but no history of prior infection, brought no significant protection against symptomatic omicron infection,” researchers said.

In regards to the Pfizer vaccine, three shots offered considerably more protection. But the protection was still lower than natural immunity, which offered stronger and more sustained protection from infection than vaccination. (Researchers noted that “people with a prior-variant infection were moderately protected from omicron with little decline in protection even a year after their prior infection.”)

— David Zweig (@davidzweig) July 11, 2022

The findings are not unlike those out of Israel published last year, which found that natural immunity offered more robust protection against the Delta variant than vaccines.

“The natural immune protection that develops after a SARS-CoV-2 infection offers considerably more of a shield against the Delta variant of the pandemic coronavirus than two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine,” Science reported in August 2021 in a piece exploring the Israel findings.

More than a dozen other studies also found that natural immunity offered powerful protection against Covid, equal to or stronger than vaccination.

“Among the most fraudulent messages of the CDC’s campaign of deceit is to force the vaccine on those with prior infection, who have a greater degree of protection against all versions of the virus than those with any of the vaccines.”

— Thomas Massie (@RepThomasMassie) August 26, 2021

Even absent these findings, vaccine mandates were dubious from the beginning. The morality of violating bodily autonomy through government coercion is a serious and dangerous matter. In light of these findings, however, vaccine mandates also appear nonsensical.

While many institutions now consider Covid infection a form of immunization—including the NCAA, which in January changed its policy to accommodate athletes who’d had Covid—many have not. Thousands of soldiers have been discharged because of their vaccination status. Healthcare workers continue to face vaccination mandates in many places.

It’s time for all institutions—especially governments—to recognize vaccination choices should remain with individuals. The idea that freedom over one’s own body is the most basic and essential freedom is one embraced not just by libertarians like Ron Paul but by international leaders like Natalia Kanem, a physician who leads the United Nations Population Fund.

“Bodily autonomy is the foundation on which all rights exist,” Kanem bluntly states.

All efforts to compel people to get vaccinated (or else) are coercive, and therefore wrong. But when the government, in particular, violates bodily autonomy for an alleged greater good, it betrays its very reason for being.

“The only proper purpose of a government is to protect man’s rights,” the philosopher Ayn Rand noted.

As more studies like the research published by The New England Journal of Medicine come out, it becomes more and more clear that vaccine mandates were not just immoral. They were senseless.

Fortunately, many are beginning to realize just that.

Betsy DeVos Sparks Backlash With Education Proposal—but the Idea Is Far From Crazy thumbnail

Betsy DeVos Sparks Backlash With Education Proposal—but the Idea Is Far From Crazy

By Foundation for Economic Education (FEE)

The vicious backlash to DeVos’s remarks actually reveals a broader lesson about just how difficult it is to scale back government once it is expanded.

Former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was one of the most controversial members of former President Trump’s cabinet. Few officials in the entire administration earned the same level of mainstream media ire and social media nastiness as the secretary. Yet over the weekend, we saw that the backlash continues even now that DeVos has returned to private life.

DeVos went viral after calling for the abolishment of the federal Department of Education, of which she was previously secretary, during remarks alongside Corey DeAngelis at the right-leaning political convention FreedomFest. (At which I attended and spoke). DeVos took the same position at another conservative political gathering over the same weekend.

— Corey A. DeAngelis (@DeAngelisCorey) July 15, 2022

This isn’t actually the first time DeVos has taken this position, but for some reason, this time it truly gained widespread traction—and led to hysterical denunciation from political figures and media pundits.

Consider this statement from California Governor Gavin Newsom, a prominent progressive Democrat.

“Republicans are trying to destroy public education,” tweeted Newsom. “Banning history. Banning books. Banning student speech. And now Betsy DeVos is admitting it.”

Or similarly hysterical commentary from a wide array of social media commentators:

The Republican policy on public education is that it shouldn’t exist.

Last month, Betsy DeVos admitted: “I frankly don’t think the Department of Education should exist.”

F*ck Betsy DeVos.

— CALL TO ACTIVISM (@CalltoActivism) July 17, 2022

We got Betsy DeVos calling for the abolishment of the Department of Education. We got Michael Flynn calling on governors to declare themselves commander in Chief of their own State via National Guard and to tell Biden he has no power there. Do you all understand this is fascism? https://t.co/ofC4W7Vot4

— pitchforks, or passports 🏴🔥🌎 (@BrandiLynn4Ever) July 17, 2022

First, let’s clear up some misinformation included in these attacks.

Ending the federal Department of Education would not, in any way, shape, or form, end or abolish public education. Almost all education is funded and provided at the state and local levels.

The Department of Education is simply a regulatory behemoth that issues rules and mandates that forcibly impose one-size-fits-all education on a diverse country. Removing the Department from the equation would not remove the government from education—not even close. It would simply localize more power and scale back an immensely wasteful and dysfunctional bureaucracy.

What’s so bad about that, exactly?

Of course, there’s room for debate about the proper role of the government in education. But the vicious backlash to DeVos’s remarks actually reveals a broader lesson about just how difficult it is to scale back government once it is expanded.

The Department of Education has only existed in its current form since 1980. And, according to Reason, it was created largely by former President Jimmy Carter to win the electoral support of teachers’ unions. But just a few decades later, the idea of its abolition is considered extreme and beyond the pale by huge swaths of the public.

That’s because once a new, vast government bureaucracy expands, it creates an entire class of beneficiaries—both political and financial—who rally support for it and fight like crazy for its preservation, including by misleading the public about what ending that department would entail. (I.e. falsely saying ending the Department would end public education).

That’s why, unfortunately, the Department of Education is unlikely to be abolished any time soon. While those who believe in limited government, federalism, and individual liberty can continue working toward that goal, we ought to take the lesson here and apply it more broadly.

We must be incredibly wary of expansions of the federal government’s power, even those initially proposed as temporary or modest in scope, because once it expands, any effort to scale it back will face tremendous resistance and vitriol.

Just ask Betsy DeVos.

CONGRESSMAN CHIP ROY: Biden Twiddles His Thumbs While Our Southern Border Is Under Siege thumbnail

CONGRESSMAN CHIP ROY: Biden Twiddles His Thumbs While Our Southern Border Is Under Siege

By The Daily Caller

There is an invasion at our border, and it’s past time to officially declare it.

We face an invasion organized by heavily armed and dangerous cartels making hundreds of millions of dollars moving human beings and narcotics for profit while purposefully terrorizing Texans, Americans and the migrants seeking to come here. This is an invasion that started a long time ago across both Republican and Democrat administrations, and it hasn’t slowed down. Jeh Johnson who was DHS Secretary under Obama said that 1,000 apprehensions per day was a “crisis.”

Today, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is encountering up to 8,000 per day at our southern border. This fiscal year to date, there have been over 1.53 million encounters at our southern border. This is a 77% increase over this point in 2019 — the year when the liberal media called our southern border “a crisis” and said our border was at a “breaking point.” In fact, in 2019, the highest monthly apprehension number was in May with 144,116. In May of 2022, there were 239,416.

But the apprehensions themselves are not the real story. While the Biden administration forces CBP to process several thousand per day and release them into the U.S. — contrary to federal law —our borders are not policed, resulting in over 800,000 known gotaways since the start of fiscal year 2021.

We don’t know who these people are or where they have gone, but we know CBP has apprehended roughly 50 terrorists between ports of entry. We know thousands of pounds of lethal Fentanyl have entered through our southern border and entered our neighborhoods, killing our kids. Indeed, 71,000 of the 107,000 Americans that died from opioid “overdoses” last year were Fentanyl poisonings. And we know CBP is completely overwhelmed.

Though every state is grappling with this invasion, Texas bears the brunt. Roughly 62% of encounters this fiscal year have occurred in Texas. Over 1.7 million of the roughly 11 million illegal migrants living in the U.S. are estimated to live in Texas — roughly 6% of the Texas population and more than the population of San Antonio.

Illegal migrants in 2021 were costing over $850 million to Texas, including $152 million to house criminal aliens for a year, even before Gov. Greg Abbott launched Operation Lone Star to try to stem the tide. Those operations are now costing Texas an estimated $3 billion.

For the ranchers and leaders of south Texas, the invasion is an everyday reality. In Brooks County, Texas, there were over 108 dead bodies found in 2021 and this year, they’ve encountered some 48 bodies — forced to use a “mobile morgue.” Ranchers often find dead migrants on their property; that is, in between the destroyed fencesdamaged property and escaped livestock — all devastating to their livelihoods. Many ranchers now feel so unsafe that they require their kids to carry guns to protect themselves.

Now, folks in South Texas are standing up. A few brave south Texas leaders in six counties declared a local state of disaster due to the invasion in their communities. They were correct to do so and right in calling on Texas state officials to declare an invasion consistent with both the U.S. and Texas Constitutions.

Notwithstanding the musings of beltway pundits and legal eggheads who couldn’t survive on a ranch in the first place, “invasion” does not simply mean an organized army of redcoats. As noted by former Attorney General of Virginia, Ken Cuccinelli, “the Constitution makes clear that state governments are not impotent should the federal government continue to willfully refuse to carry out its constitutional obligations to the individual states.”

Similarly, the Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich issued a legal opinion regarding invasion writing, “no State should be put in the position that Arizona and other border states have been put in through the federal government’s recent actions. The federal government is failing to fulfill its duty under Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution to defend the States from invasion. The State Self-Defense Clause exists precisely for situations such as the present, to ensure the States are not left helpless.”

Texas, for its part has responded to the invasion with resources and taxpayer dollars — resulting in razor wire fences, DPS troopers, National Guardsmen, some arrests for trespassing, brief enhanced vehicle inspections that got the leadership of Mexico’s attention and a number of lawsuits in court. CBP is, part of course, grateful for the support and to have the backing of the Governor and the state.

Still, the crisis continues.

Over the two-day July 4th weekend in the Del Rio Sector alone, we encountered roughly 1,800 and saw roughly 400 known got-aways. Without declaring an invasion and ending the purposeful exploitation of our existing laws, the crisis will continue. Stopping the invasion requires that we recognize it, and act on it by turning people away and/or telling Mexico our ports of entry are going to be slowed to a standstill until they do their part.

In 1821, Stephen F. Austin, the “Father of Texas” brought 300 families to what is now Texas. There was no regular army to protect them, so Austin organized a group to provide protection from Comanches and eventually Mexican raiders — giving rise to the Texas Rangers. Texans did what sovereign states have done throughout history: we stepped up and protected our communities.

Today, Texans need to stand up again and protect our communities. Academics can argue in circles about the term “invasion” and debate possible liabilities incurred by the brave people who stand up to protect our borders; however, no amount of internal legal debate can protect ranchers in south Texas from ending up collateral damage to an Administration that scoffs at the rule of law.

We, Texans, must protect our families, our communities, and our state. The U.S. and Texas Constitution provides us with a path to put an end to this invasion to do just that.

Law Firm Forces Out Own Lawyers Who Won Landmark Supreme Court Gun Case

By The Geller Report

There is a reckoning coming. These fascists are pushing Americans too far.

Law firm forces out own lawyers who won Supreme gun case

‘We were given a stark choice’

By Art Moore, WND, June 27, 2022:

Two lawyers who successfully argued the landmark Supreme Court case affirming a constitutional right to be armed outside the home have been forced out of their Washington, D.C., law firm.

Amid pressure from clients and other attorneys at the firm, Kirkland & Ellis LLP, no longer will handle Second Amendment cases, Politico reported.

Former Solicitor General Paul Clement and Erin Murphy, who argued successfully before the Supreme Court in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen, said they had to resign.

“We were given a stark choice: either withdraw from ongoing representations or withdraw from the firm,” Clement said in a statement reported by Politico.

“Anyone who knows us and our views regarding professional responsibility and client loyalty knows there was only one course open to us: We could not abandon ongoing representations just because a client’s position is unpopular in some circles.”

Kirkland spokesman Jon Ballis told Politico he hoped the firm could continue to work with the two attorneys on matters not related to guns.

The announcement of the dropping of gun cases and the resignations took place on the day the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to strike down New York’s law requiring anyone who wishes to obtain a concealed-carry permits to demonstrate a “proper purpose” to have weapons outside the home.

Politico noted that one decade ago, Clement left Atlanta-based King & Spalding after the firm distanced itself from Clement’s work to preserve the Defense of Marriage Act. Signed by President Bill Clinton in 1996, DOMA defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman and allowed individual states not to recognize same-sex marriages recognized by other states.

At the time, Clement explained: “I resign out of the firmly held belief that a representation should not be abandoned because the client’s legal position is extremely unpopular in certain quarters. Defending unpopular clients is what lawyers do.” The Supreme Court overturned DOMA in 2013 in a 5-4 ruling.

REPORT: Chinese Developed ‘Mind-Reading’ Artificial Intelligence to Measure Loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party

By The Geller Report

And this is who the Democrat party of treason serves and services.

I don’t believe this but I do believe it will be used to eliminate any opposition and dissidents.

Researchers in China claim they have developed ‘mind-reading’ artificial intelligence that can measure loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party, reports say

By: Hannah Towey, Business Insider, Jul 10, 2022:

Researchers at China’s Comprehensive National Science Center in Hefei claimed to have developed “mind-reading” artificial intelligence capable of measuring citizens’ loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), The Sunday Times UK first reported.

In a now-deleted video and article, the institute said the software could measure party members’ reactions to “thought and political education” by analyzing facial expressions and brain waves, according to The Times.

The results can then be used to “further solidify their confidence and determination to be grateful to the party, listen to the party, and follow the party,” the researchers said, per the report. The post was taken down following public outcry from Chinese citizens, according to a VOA article published Saturday.

Dr. Lance B. Eliot, an AI and machine learning expert, wrote in Forbes last week that without knowing the specifics of the research study, it’s impossible to prove the validity of the institute’s claims.

“This is certainly not the very first time that a brainwave scan capability was used on human subjects in a research effort,” he wrote. “That being said, using them to gauge loyalty to the CCP is not something you would find much focus on. When such AI is used for governmental control, a red line has been crossed.”

Late last year, the US Department of Commerce sanctioned several Chinese institutes for helping develop biotechnology including “purported brain-control weaponry,” as Insider previously reported.

The Chinese government has come under fire for using AI and facial recognition systems to track and control Uighurs, an ethnic minority group. Between 1 million and 3 million Uighurs have been detained by the Chinese Communist Party in “reeducation camps,” according to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Lia Thomas’ ‘Woman of the Year’ Award Is More of the Left’s War on Women thumbnail

Lia Thomas’ ‘Woman of the Year’ Award Is More of the Left’s War on Women

By The Geller Report

There is a real war on women, and it’s by feminists and the Left. This is the real war on women: Fox News reported Friday that “the University of Pennsylvania nominated swimmer Lia Thomas for the NCAA ‘Woman of the Year’ award.” The award is supposed to recognize female student athletes who have done great things. The NCAA nomination page says: “Established in 1991, the award recognizes female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in their community, in athletics and in academics throughout their college careers.” In announcing the award, UPenn said that NCAA member schools “are encouraged to celebrate their top graduating female student-athletes by nominating them for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.” Amid all this self-congratulation, one important fact has been overlooked: Lia Thomas is not a woman. Lia Thomas is a man.

Women must realize: the left is stripping us of everything that is uniquely ours. Women are being robbed of every good thing in our lives. First and foremost? Motherhood, our greatest joy and source of happiness. Our marital rights are being stripped, masculinity is rendered “toxic” (trust me, that hurts women), romance has been demonized, and femininity has been rendered politically incorrect (for proof of that, see how Victoria’s Secret has been killing its own brand).

Young women are being robbed of the greatest gifts life has to offer. And they don’t know it. But they’re unhappy and they don’t know why. It’s overwhelmingly depressing, these poisonous fruits of “women’s liberation.” The epidemic of single motherhood, the breakdown of the American family, the street vernacular of “bitches and hos,” the emasculation of men, the bone-crushing responsibility of one woman being mother, father, breadwinner, chief cook and bottle washer we owe to the feminists.

The destroyers have been at war against American values for forty years, and Lia Thomas, “Woman of the Year,” is just the latest proof that they have succeeded. Women have been diminished and dehumanized, all under the guise of “liberation” and “feminism.” All this shows the power of the art of propaganda.

The family is the basic building block of any successful society. Children born out of wedlock are more likely to struggle in school or suffer emotional and behavioral problems. Yet today, over fifty percent of births in this country to women under thirty are outside marriage. And an astronomical forty percent of women are not married when they have children. Back in 2016, Child Trends reported that “40 percent of births in the United States occur outside of marriage, up from 28 percent in 1990.” Since then, the percentage of births outside of marriage has only increased.

In the documentary, Oral Sex Is the New Goodnight Kiss, Sharlene Azam, a Canadian filmmaker, says, “If you talk to teens [about oral sex], they’ll tell you it’s not a big deal. In fact, they don’t consider it sex. They don’t consider a lot of things sex.” In the documentary, teenage girls talk casually about their sexual experiences and even their forays into prostitution. One girl sums up the new attitudes: “Five minutes and I got $100. If I’m going to sleep with them anyway because they’re good-looking, might as well get paid for it, right?”

This is how the phony feminist movement empowered women. More like enslaved women. Those men-hating parasites have ruined the glorious exaltation of women in 20th-century America.

I know. I grew up in it. All one has to do is watch movies from the twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, and sixties (before the left’s rout of American culture) to catch a glimpse of the status of women and see the seismic change in the dynamic between women and men. In those films, women were treated with respect and equality. We were then formidable, respected, treasured, and above all… revered. It was as good as it gets. Relationships had depth and were serious stuff. Look at today’s films. There is no dynamic between the sexes. It’s two people playing with sex toys.

The Femarxist movement uses “equalization” as a means of empowering castration by the female at the top while emasculating males at the bottom. The transgender craze is the apotheosis of this movement.

All this is no surprise, of course. A breakdown of sexual mores and a flouting of convention is part and parcel of the agenda in every society to which socialism has come. And here we are.

The Everything Bubble Is Imploding thumbnail

The Everything Bubble Is Imploding

By Neland Nobel

A few years ago, some smart observers popularized the phrase “the everything bubble” to describe the behavior of the financial markets.

Years of zero interest rates and bank reserve expansion through the Federal Reserve’s policy of Quantitative Easing set off a wave of asset price inflation.  Fiscal policy (Federal spending) was aggressive as well. Oddly, consumer price inflation remained subdued.  Governments and economists became confident that inflation was not a problem, but that deflation was a problem.

While it seems like yesterday, under the final year of the Trump Administration, the Consumer Price Index was climbing around 1.5% per year.  This was largely because the CPI does not track asset price inflation well and undercounts the influence of housing costs by using a rental imputation number rather than actual housing costs.

You might recall, that the FED complained about disinflation and stated its goal was to take inflation above the 2% level.  Looking back, it seems foolish that they got what they were asking for and more.  Further, when it became evident something was going wrong, both the politicians and the FED argued that inflation was “transitory.”

Ultra-low interest rates promoted the use of borrowing by consumer for goods like autos, housing, and financial speculation.  Conventional margin debt soared, and a host of new speculative products emerged: leveraged ETFs, SPACS, cryptocurrencies, and NFTs. Brokerage houses promoted asset-backed lending such as borrowing on your stock account to buy real estate or other assets.

Then along came lockdown. The policy of lockdown, an ill-considered reaction to the Wuhan virus, then set into motion a number of conflicting trends.  Perhaps the most important was the direct injection of money into the hands of the public and the same time shutting down production by the closure of business and the quarantining of the healthy workforce.  This injection of money created out of thin air was felt necessary to offset the negative effects of the government-mandated lockdown.

One good disaster deserves another.

Since this was fiscal stimulus transmitted directly into the bloodstream of the economy, rather than the earlier expansion of bank reserves through QE that largely remained in the banking system, the money supply boomedAt the same time, supply was constrained as both US production and most of the foreign products that we import, were shut down.

The result was too much demand was created and too little supply was permitted.  The result now has been double-digit inflation caused by both monetary expansion and supply constraints.

Even as late as last year, equity prices soared 28% and gold prices tested their all-time highs, and went to new highs in many foreign currencies.  Commodities soared and “the everything bubble” got larger and larger.

The government has continued the supply constraints, even beyond the lifting of lockdown.  This has come primarily from the attempt to alter the climate of the earth over the next one hundred years.  The result has been to restrict the production of cheap reliable energy sources in favor of untested and uneconomic alternatives of wind and solar, and the attempt to mandate a revolutionary change in transportation by forcing both through law and incentives, the adoption of electric vehicles.

This has driven up the price of fuel, the cost of farming (fuel and fertilizer), the cost of everything made from petroleum (over 6,000 products ranging from plastic pipe to adhesives), and the cost to transport everything that needs transporting to grocery store shelves and warehouses.

In short, the supply constraint on energy is a supply constraint on many other things.

Lockdown thoroughly screwed up the labor markets.  Millions of workers left and never came back.  Wage levels thus moved sharply higher and labor shortages are reported in many sectors of both production and services.

The result has been both asset price inflation and consumer goods inflation.

Reacting to the inflation they unleashed, the FED belatedly increased interest rates and started QT, or Quantitative Tapering, the selling of central bank reserve assets.  The rate of change in the growth of the money supply is coming down rather quickly.

As a result of the new monetary dynamics, portions of the everything bubble are now starting to break and go in the other direction.

Beneficiaries of the cheap money regime have become victims of its removal.  The benefit of financial leverage (the use of borrowed money to control more assets than you could afford to buy with cash), is now starting to work in reverse.  We are now leveraging the downside losses.

Stock prices have declined into bear markets, bonds have had the worst year since 1788, and many commodity prices, that were soaring just months ago, are coming off their peaks pretty violently. Cryptocurrencies have dropped 70-80%, which are losses equal to or greater than some of the great bear markets in equities.  Precious metals have fallen as well.

Commodity prices directly connected to economic activity are now dropping sharply.

Copper prices, you would think would be a direct beneficiary of the government-forced technology changes for transportation.  But copper has dropped almost 40% from its recent peak just since March.  Lumber prices, directly related to the housing boom, have fallen 55% from their peak in January.  Shipping costs, once soaring, have reversed and are falling rapidly.  The Baltic Dry freight index is down 65% from its recent peak. Container rates for the traffic between US West Coast ports and China are down nearly 50%.

Housing prices are now beginning to wobble and we have covered this development extensively in The Prickly Pear, largely through our friend Wolf Richter and his columns.

In short, many key commodity prices are now taking some serious hits and housing is likely to follow stocks, bonds, and commodity prices to lower levels. Housing is highly leveraged with the typical 3% down mortgage more leveraged than commodity futures.  This has the capacity to throw our banking system into turmoil.

This is already evident in China, whose housing bubble is collapsing and bank runs are publicly evident.

As the everything bubble implodes, it is hard to know which sector will go next.  The biggest danger is likely the real estate markets because so much of consumer wealth is tied up there and “feelings of consumer wealth and prosperity” are tied to housing.  This could cause stress in the banking system, but also cause the feeling of “wealth loss” to cause consumers to pull in spending.  Consumer spending is 70% of GDP.

All of this combined creates a real risk of slipping into recession, or worse.

What a problem now for the FED!  If they stay the course to crush inflation, they may become a pro-cyclical force.  In short, they will make the coming recession that much worse.  This is called a policy error, which seems too mild of a term.

If they reverse course and take a monetary U-turn before inflation is vanquished, they run a risk not only to their credibility but risk high inflation in the midst of contraction; call it stagflation on steroids.

Meanwhile, the supply constraints on energy continue with a religious fanaticism by Progressives that rivals the Medieval church.

We even see signs of an inquisition of sorts, that is the punishing of heretics that don’t believe the global warming story.

It seems Wall Street is betting on a soft landing or a U-turn in policy. Stock prices are starting to stabilize a bit and bond prices have actually bounced.

A soft landing would be a nice outcome, but the sharp break in commodity prices suggests it will be a harder landing than expected.

The problem is we rely on the same geniuses who thought inflation at 1.5% was unacceptable, who thought huge deficits didn’t matter, and who think environmental fanaticism will have no consequences.

Biden Administration: The Friendliest to Iran’s Mullahs?

By Majid Rafizadeh

Prior to the Biden administration, since the ruling mullahs came to power in 1979, two US administrations — the Obama and Carter administrations — appeared soft on the Iranian regime. Now, the Biden administration seems to have perfected the skill of appeasing the ruling mullahs of Iran.

Even they probably cannot believe that they have gotten away with so many violations since the Biden administration assumed office.

Concerning the regime’s nuclear program, the clerical establishment has now reached the highest level of advancement. Even The New York Times recently acknowledged:

“By most accounts, Iran is closer to being able to produce a bomb today than at any other point in the two-decade-long saga of its nuclear program — even if it is planning, as many national security officials believe, to stop just short of producing an actual weapon.”

Some of the regime’s dangerous advancements include enriching a substantial amount of uranium — of up to 60% purity, a short technical step away from the 90% purity level required to build a nuclear weapon. Uranium enrichment is the main problem: if there were no uranium enrichment, there would be no bomb.

Even America’s allies — France, Germany and the United Kingdom — recently warned that the Iranian government’s latest action is “further reducing the time Iran would take to break out towards a first nuclear weapon and it is fueling distrust as to Iran’s intentions.”

In addition, the Biden administration’s own officials recently acknowledged that Iran is only weeks away from obtaining nuclear breakout capability. Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently issued the warning during a hearing with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Now, in Natanz, the Iranian regime is digging an underground nuclear facility that is reportedly extremely difficult to bomb. Even Israel would not have the military capability to attack this underground nuclear site. In a recent report, David Albright, president of the Institute for Science and International Security, pointed out:

“Fordow is already viewed as so deeply buried that it would be difficult to destroy via aerial attack. The new Natanz site may be even harder to destroy.”

Under previous US administrations, any single one of these kinds of nuclear violations would have been considered a major transgression, and would most likely have triggered proportionate actions against Iran’s regime.

The problem is that Iranian leaders keep testing the Biden administration with violations — such as increasing uranium enrichment to near weapon-grade levels, the transfer of weapons and oil to Venezuela, attempting to kill former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, trying to kidnap a US citizen on American soil, targeting US bases in Iraq with barrages of missiles, harassing US Navy ships, smuggling weapons in violation of UN resolutions, and turning off International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cameras that monitor the regime’s nuclear activities — and keep witnessing no repercussions.

As a result, the ruling mullahs have become even more emboldened to ramp up their nuclear program. As the latest report from the IAEA on Iran’s nuclear program has revealed, the Iranian regime is preparing to raise its uranium enrichment at the Fordow plant. According to Reuters:

“Iran is escalating its uranium enrichment further by preparing to use advanced IR-6 centrifuges at its underground Fordow site that can more easily switch between enrichment levels, a United Nations nuclear watchdog report… showed.”

Iran’s leaders can also see that the Biden administration is not holding accountable those countries that are violating the sanctions on Iran, including China and Venezuela, which continue to buy Iranian oil.

Iran is, in addition, freely harassing US Navy ships and has ramped up smuggling weapons to Yemen’s Houthis in violation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2140. The Biden administration removed the Houthis from the terrorist list soon after it assumed office; this is how the Houthis repay the “gesture.”

As if that were not sufficient, according to IranWire:

“The [United Nations] Panel of Experts [on Yemen] say there are several critical pieces of evidence that suggest the Islamic Republic has been smuggling weapons to Yemen, in violation of UNSCR 2140. Last year a cargo ship was discovered heading to Yemen from the port of Jask in southern Iran, carrying a variety of rifles and launchers. They in turn had been seized from vessels originating in Iran.”

Iran’s regime has also been ratcheting up its sponsorship and employment of terror cells in foreign countries.

The Biden administration’s appeasement and inaction, sadly, have done nothing but breed terrorism and transgressions. It is to be hoped that the Biden administration will not leave the world an expansionist, terror state, Iran, imminently armed with nuclear weapons.

An Amazing Conundrum thumbnail

An Amazing Conundrum

By Bruce Bialosky

Editors Note: Further confusion from this story not mentioned, is that the mother of the child has said complimentary things about the rapist. Some news sources  have reported that the rapist was her boyfriend and that the mother is illegal as well. It is not uncommon for single mothers, who have a parade of boyfriends in and out of the house, to create a hazard for their children, especially if they were fathered by another man. What is clear though is that a child has been harmed and pro-abortion doctors and journalists have attempted to use the incident to advocate against reasonable legislation that limits “abortion rights”. But they trumped up the story without checking the facts and the President of the United States joined in the farce. However, the story reveals more about the problems with Progressive politics (support for illegal immigration, lionizing single motherhood, a casual attitude towards criminal behavior) than it does a reasonable law in Ohio. That the President is so eager to join in the fray and that he and his staff could not do basic fact-checking tells you more than you want to know. A little girl is being sacrificed on the altar of Progressive politics.

What happens when you have a quandary — a predicament of your own making that you never expected to happen and exposes you to be a fool no matter which way you turn. That happened in the last week when some people latched on to the story of a 10-year-old getting an abortion.

A story spread through the MSM that a 10-year-old rape victim had left Ohio to go to Indiana to have an abortion. Supposedly, a child abuse doctor called a colleague in Indianapolis to facilitate the procedure. This was because of the Dobbs ruling, where Ohio would no longer allow abortions after six weeks. The girl was now pregnant for six weeks and three days.

The Indianapolis Star published the story with no verification and there was no reported rape that anyone could find. Yet, the story spread because it fit an agenda. It spread all the way to President Biden. Biden cited the story last week after signing an executive order on abortion access, saying the 10-year-old “was forced to travel out of state to Indiana to seek to terminate the pregnancy and maybe save her life.” Now it was a “lifesaving” procedure as the story took on greater urgency.

While the tale was tossed around without proof, a major component of the matter was being left out. Everyone appeared to forget A 10-YEAR-OLD WAS RAPED. Not exactly an inconsequential fact unless you are fixated on abortion. There was seemingly no concern for the fact there had been a crime of major proportions committed. Rape used to be a major concern for women concerned about women’s health. That became secondary when the story shifted to salaciousness due to the “dangers” of the new abortion environment, if not altogether incidental.

Women’s health. Wasn’t this all about women’s health? Where was the discussion of the health of this 10-year-old except for she supposedly had to cross state lines to obtain the abortion? What about her mental health after having forced sex with a man when she is still an adolescent?

But did she have to go to Indiana? Since when does anyone know the exact day that someone became pregnant? Yet, the referring doctor knew the victim was three days past the new six-week limit in Ohio. No one questioned that. A 10-year-old remembered the exact dates of the multiple rapes that occurred when reporting them weeks after the events. No one questioned the agenda of the doctor who declared the victim not six weeks pregnant, but six weeks and three days right after the Dobbs ruling came down and the six-week limit was imposed in Ohio.

Apparently, the referring doctor did not check the law in Ohio. Maybe she wanted to make this poor child a cause celebre? Ohio Attorney General David Yost stated that abortion would have been legal in the state of Ohio. Yost (who is a supporter of the ban after six weeks) made clear there are exceptions, and this would clearly have been one.

Then there was another matter here. The Indianapolis doctor, Dr. Caitlin Bernard, completely ignored HIPAA laws. You know, those laws protecting medical information from being shared without patient approval. The ones that stop you from getting info about your family members. Dr. Bernard has been “disciplined” for the violation (whatever that means) because we will never find out what happened to her. Let me assure you it was window dressing because she became a heroine for spreading the story.

Then the story takes another turn and creates another conundrum for all those who were using the incident for abortion politics. After a period of doubt about the rape, because the incident had not been reported to the state as required (there was no rape kit submitted or DNA evidence), matters became much clearer. There was an arrest for the rape.

27-year-old Gershon Fuentes, an illegal alien from Guatemala, not only was arrested; he confessed to the rape. Some must be confused about what should be done. He raped a young girl, but he is an illegal alien who obviously has challenges of his own. Should he have to face these criminal charges? And why did he have bail set at all let alone at $2 million? Another conundrum.

Now the city of Columbus and the state of Ohio have a dilemma. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have placed a detainer on Fuentes. That means they are going to return him to Guatemala. That means he will get off for this heinous crime. The question then becomes, how long will it be until he sneaks back into our country?

There should be no conundrum regarding him. He should not be given to those people. He should be sentenced. The appropriate sentence for someone who raped a 10-year-old in my book would be to hang him from his scrotum. That is the best I can express here. If we did more of that there would be fewer of these stories. Short of that, they should stuff him in a prison in the general population (gen pop) and let his fellow inmates know about what he did.

It is really challenging when you are making choices between the issue of abortion and other minor matters like illegal aliens, HIPAA violations, and most importantly, rape. It must be such a conundrum being an abortion warrior.

No Safe Space: Chemical Abortion and Trafficked Daughters thumbnail

No Safe Space: Chemical Abortion and Trafficked Daughters

By Family Research Council

“My strategy was to be unseen. I became numb. Most abuse victims don’t know they are victims. We just know that this is life.” — Darlene, survivor

Darlene was 13 when she was first molested. To this day, she remembers running and hiding under the bed, desperate to disappear. “It just sort of flipped a switch in me, because I had no safe place anymore.” Fatherless, she watched her mom go from one abusive relationship to the next, until one day Darlene just stopped going to school. “That was when my world seemed to completely spiral out of control,” she admits. “[A] guy came to my neighborhood who was so jovial and so friendly to everybody. He was so magnetic is the only thing I can think of. All the kids in the neighborhood gravitated to him — and I had no idea that I was his target.”

By her 14th birthday, she was a commodity. “The first time he sold me was to a businessman,” Darlene thinks back. “He was a bouncer at an illegal gambling ring, and he’d bring me to that back alley — and he’d leave me in the car and men would use me there, over and over and over. And then when he opened the door, he said, ‘Gee, you look like hell.’ … I was beaten, gang-raped, drugged, dragged, and bruised in a sick game of dehumanization.” No one, not even her mother, stopped it. “Sometimes I was out on the streets for days at a time, sometimes weeks.” Her buyers were businessmen, city councilors, professionals, criminals.

After she’d been passed around for five years, she was sold to a man who told her, “in graphic detail how he’d forced other girls to have an abortion.” By that point, Darlene had been trafficked so long, she thought she couldn’t get pregnant. “I didn’t think it would happen,” she said. Until she did. When her abuser found out, he threatened to kill her if she tried to escape without having an abortion. “He even threatened to do it himself.” Terrified, she threw herself at his feet, begging him not to force her. He threw the phone in her lap and waited until she called and made an appointment. “In my mind, I had no choice,” she remembers.

Years have passed, but there are thousands of other Darlenes trapped in horror stories like hers. This very second, there are men online, in malls, walking through neighborhoods, luring girls away from unhappy homes with one goal: to sell them and use them for sex. Like Darlene, they’ve been kicked, beaten, starved, punished, and forced to subject themselves to a level of brutality and humiliation most of us can’t comprehend. Most of these young girls end up pregnant — as many as 71% according to one report. And not just once. Multiple times. “A third of women trafficked ‘underwent numerous abortions as victims of trafficking’” — most against their will.

Now, with Roe v. Wade gone, and abortion activists frantic to protect their biggest business, the plot has become more sinister: abortion pills, through the mail, where no one has to know. The new back-alley method that gives predators like Darlene’s an even easier way to inflict harm.

Before the abortion industry invented chemical killing, there was at least a good possibility that abused and hurting girls would see an adult face to face, a nurse or health care worker in a safe place where they could tell the truth and get help. And while abortion centers like Planned Parenthood’s were notorious about covering up these nightmarish crimes, there was a better chance of teenagers breaking their silence and getting rescued — than removing all supervision and forcing them to go through this dangerous abortion process alone.

As so many doctors have warned, these are lethal drugs. The Left tells women that it’s a simple, safe, natural, and private process. What they don’t tell them is stories like Solome’s. “I had blood all over my legs and went in the tub to wash them. The cramps got so bad I couldn’t even move. I couldn’t even cry…” she testified to the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus. “I couldn’t get to my phone to dial 911 and go to the emergency room…” There was so much pain and blood, she thought she might die. “I haven’t really healed from my experience, and I don’t know if I ever will.”

Imagine the harm rapists and other predators could do if these drugs were as available as the Biden administration is demanding. Children, innocent women, and sex victims of all kinds would be in an endless cycle of violence — with no guarantee that they would survive the complications. Because the last place a serial abuser is going to rush his victims is an emergency room where the girls would have easy access to law enforcement.

And yet, President Biden, controlled by the radicals in his party, has decided to take the side of those monsters, demanding that states make it easier for everyone to get their hands on these deadly drugs. In a term that has redefined extremism, he has decided to become the president of predation. “As our nation faces another significant health care crisis, this guidance is to remind the roughly 60,000 retail pharmacies in the United States of the unique role pharmacies play in ensuring access to comprehensive reproductive health care services,” according to Health and Human Services.

This, Dr. Ingrid Skop warns, despite the fact that chemical abortions have four times as many complications as surgical abortions. The Biden administration, she explained on “Washington Watch,” took away all in-person supervision.

“They can get it delivered by mail without ever encountering a doctor. … [And] these medications work by cutting off hormonal support and then causing contractions. The further along a woman is, the more likely it is to fail. When it fails there, the woman is at risk for infection. She’s at risk for hemorrhage. And that tissue that does not pass out has to be removed surgically. Even under the prior recommendations, using it up to 10 weeks gestation, about 5-8% of the time it does fail and the woman needs surgery. But in this new world where nobody’s even checking to find out how far along she is, it’s going to fail more frequently.”

For any woman, those are inhumane odds. For a woman trapped in a life of sex abuse, it’s a death sentence. The idea that anyone — let alone the leader of the free world — would try to push this poison on innocent mothers and children is abhorrent. What he’s telling the desperate, hurting girls like Darlene is that there’s no way out. That there is no safe place. “Women who are in this situation,” she tells people now, “need healing. They need guidance, they need compassion. But they don’t need abortion.”

She should know. The night Darlene begged her captor for her baby’s life, she had a dream — of a little face, part of a hand “with those distinct stubby fingers,” part of a ribcage. Looking back, she knows it was supernatural, a window into a womb she didn’t know. She woke up, raised her arms in the air in an act of desperation, and said, “God, if you’re real, I need you to show up.” He did, hatching a plan for her to escape with the help of a social worker assigned to track her as a runaway. She faked her abortion and found her freedom.

Darlene was saved by heroes — people who valued her life and her baby’s. Girls everywhere deserve a government and a president who does the same.

Marxists Spoke! Sadly, We Listened. thumbnail

Marxists Spoke! Sadly, We Listened.

By Karen Schoen

Marxists spoke: Never talk about politics and religion.  Don’t trust your parents. Be the silent majority.  Sadly, we listened.

A newly released report from Steve Moore, states that there is no one, NOT ONE, ZERO person in the OBiden regime that knows anything about business. think about this: These people are pushing their untried, untested, complete failure policies on We the People because they don’t care about people or results. They only care about power.

It seems as though our SCOTUS believes in the US Constitution. We won great decisions in the Supreme Court but got screwed by the Gutless Outrageous Prostitutes = GOP. (Thank you Sally Baptiste for that great new name for the GOP.)   Are you still going to vote for the same traitors again? Chaney is out begging democrats to vote for her. I hope that even Wyoming Democrats are not that stupid.

To understand what’s going on today we really have to go back and look at the 60s-70s. Most Americans pushing abortion are Boomers from that era. The boomers, myself included were the hippies, the flower children, the rock n  rollers, anti-G-d, Anti-family and Anti-America.  Morality was tossed out the window when G-d was removed from public buildings, due to 1person complaining in Engel v. Vitale . Then we accepted perversion, drugs, liquor,  sex as the new lifestyle. We would do anything our parents didn’t do. We hated the establishment.

In the 60s-70s we were so despondent and in such despair at seeing our great American heroes being assassinated in front of our very eyes. We strongly believed that the assassinations were part of a government coup. Of course we were told we were conspiracy nuts. HA! John F Kennedy, Martin Luther King JR, Robert Kennedy, our hope for a bright future was slowly fading.  We were forced into a war by draft in Vietnam that no one wanted. We were forced to fight a war in Vietnam against communism while promoting communism at home in school. How sick was that?  We were taught to lay our hatred on the heroes that were forced to fight. While those who avoided the draft became teachers in this new education called Social Studies/sustainability aka communism.

And so like all other peoples of the world when we were abused we responded. We were angry .We demonstrated, we marched and we rioted. We destroyed statues, burned buildings and listened to the emotional news about the war even though we knew they were lying.

We were taught to divert our attention into sex and drugs which we learned in school through a variety of “new” SEX Ed courses and we learned fast. After all we learned in school so it had to be OK. We had multiple outlets to express our new found “free love” like Studio 54, Plato’s Retreat and Playboy Club.  We often took out our hostility in our music and art. Bill Ayers (Obama’s mentor and leader of the Weather Underground responsible for multiple bombings of federal buildings, now a professor) asked John Lennon to write a song for the revolution. John wrote “Revolution”. Bill was pissed. (Read the lyrics)

We took massive quantities of drugs and had Love Ins with sex, drugs and  lots of liquor hooking up at any time with anyone. Nothing has changed. Those teens, grew up and are now running America using their never tried utopian/Marxist theories that they write when under the influence of something. If they wanted the drug war over, they would end it instead of participating in it. These insane illogical theories don’t work, can’t work, will never work. They are instead designed to take forever and be way over budget.  If their programs worked, they couldn’t bleed us dry.

What did we learn? Well my group of teenagers were told never talk about politics and religion.  Don’t trust your parents after all anyone over 30 doesn’t know what is going on. Be the silent majority.  Never talk about the war. We were told the government knows best.  We grew up to being so anti-establishment that it didn’t matter what the establishment did or said we figured they were just lying. The GOP and DNC are filled with these globalists who vow to take down America’s greatness and steal everything they can’t get legally. . Check out the “GOP-Gutless Outrageous Prostitutes”  who just voted to take away the only protection we have with our guns while they bring terrorists into America. They hate Americans. They want us to suffer so we will be happy with their government crumbs. We will do more for less while they take everything and we will be happy with drugs and video games. Yuval Noah Harari from World Economic Forum describes their intent:

War makes their problem of too many useless eaters, easy to dispose of. These globalists will protect the border of Ukraine and provide Ukraine guns while disarming Americans. All they want is for us to DIE (Diversity, Inclusion, Equity) so they can steal our property and keep power.

Where did we turn to vent our frustration and agree to transform America? Our educators took care of that. In 1989, Shirley Mc Cune from the McRel Foundation told the Governors Association:

We will change education from fact based to value based (on emotion) learning.

(Emotional people are easier to control using emotional triggers.)

We will stop focusing on the individual, and focus on the collective (we can conform everyone to the group mentality.)

We will train for work, not educate for life. (We need workers not thinkers or experts).

Communists learned that uneducated people are easier to control.

While all eyes looked at colleges, they infiltrated K-12 while convincing the family to “keep up with the Jones” by overspending so both mom and dad had to work ensuring the breakup of the family. The evolution of the family went from Father Knows Best to All in the Family to Married with Children showing how dysfunctional families are really the norm.

Today we suffer the results of those teachings as our government officials and experts are only capable of reading their talking points. I am just following directions, you will hear as their excuse for their third world actions of government against the people. Our police, after being emasculated (the goal of the feminist movement), will stand and watch as children are being slaughtered because they are just following directions.  The hell with the Americans.  They are just useless eaters. Less people is better they have been taught. According to Stalin, “Less people, less problems.”

We turned to a new type of government called socialism. It sounded so social, fun and inviting. It sounded so nice. All people will look after each other. Everyone would share. It will be wonderful. Everyone will all have the same stuff. And so the confused children turned to the communists who were so ready to open their arms for their new flock. The commies changed all the words and definitions to reflect Peace and Love. We followed Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals and they offered the people exactly what Khrushchev said. I will feed you little bits of socialism and one day you will be a communist.

Now we have America’s new normal. How does that work?

Kevin Sorbo on  Twitter:

“Can I drive your car? No, you’re 5

Can I have a beer?  No, you’re 5

Can I have a cigarette? No, you’re 5

Can I have a gun? No, you’re 5

Can I take hormones and change my gender? Of Course, you know what’s best.”

My conversation (Italics) with a Greenie:

Greenie: I am getting an EV. I will save tons of money on fossil fuel since it will soon be outlawed. I can depend on clean green energy from wind or sun. No dirty fuel for me.

That is great but what do you do if there is no wind or sun.

It won’t matter because I will plug my car in the wall socket.

Where does the electricity in the socket come from?

It comes from the wires.

Where does the electricity in the wires come from?

It comes from the power company.

Where does the electricity in the power company come from? From the grid.  Where does the electricity from the grid come from?

DUH! OOPS Ok Where?

Fossil fuel.

NO FOSSIL FUEL = NO ELECTRICITY.

We are assisting in our own failure.

CO2 is necessary to produce food not climate change.

America is having a food shortage crisis. CO2 helps plants aka food to grow.

CO2 is about .03% of the atmosphere and is a result of warming, NOT the cause.

Joe said he doesn’t know why or what to do about the food shortages but Joe has a plan. He increased ethanol aka corn aka soy in gas which burns our food for fuel resulting in less food at a higher cost for Americans and more expensive gas.

“Growing ethanol not food wastes: 5Billion tons of N Fertilizer; 68 Trillion BTU of natural gas; 57000sq MILES (not acres) of farmland.” Dr. Sarah Taber.

Joe has opened border for illegals to eat our food giving Americans less food; higher cost.

Then Joe wrote an EO forcing new furnaces to eliminate CO2. No CO2 = No Food.  Since over 20 processing plants were attacked, Joe signed an EO to give $1Billion to farmers to build new plants. Only the EPA regulations make it cost prohibitive.  Is it Joe’s intent to starve Americans so he can trade food for guns?

American government schools teach their students to be mediocre.  Multiple educators, myself included know that Common Core insures America’s children will be 2 years below average. Now we are surprised that they are.

Based on their IQ test results, the woman from the U.S. scored 16 points lower than that of her sibling in Korea.

This is a recent article regarding the low numbers of 3rd Graders who can read at proficiency level of 4 or 5 on the scale of 1-5

These programs DON’T WORK!

We just had LGBTQ month. Where is the Hetero Month? Or the Cisgender Month.  After all we are the majority and in a “Democracy” the majority wins. So why are we not recognized?  These labels are just used to divide the people. Really who cares what anyone does in their bedroom?

My question is: Can you do the job?

It is obvious in this failed regime the answer is No, but not to worry their departments met their DIE quota.

Now the big question:  Is America worth saving? What will you do about it?

The U.S. Army Found the Cleverest Idea Ever — Force Women to Shower with Biological Males

By Royal A. Brown III

Below is all true – our Army is totally WOKE thanks to the likes of Obama clones Secretary of Defense Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Milley and others.

By the way so are the U.S. Navy, USMC and Air Force!

First they fire the warriors.

Next they put women into combat arms.

Then they claim that Climate Change or maybe White Extremism is the biggest threat to the nation.

Following that they bring the mentally deluded into the ranks and offer to pay for reassignment surgery and lifetime follow up care and therapy.

Of course the Army is cracking down on rapes and other sexual assaults.

So, naturally the most recent cleverest idea ever is this?

Report: The Army Will Force Female Soldiers to Shower With Biological Males

By Alex Parker

If your daughter is planning to join the Army, she might find more hanging out in the shower than expected.

As reported by Breitbart beneath the banner of “exclusive,” the branch’s training includes updated instructions for bathing. And the rules are plenty far from what veterans would find familiar.

Official guidance — purportedly delivered via scenarios labeled “vignettes” — prescribes proper responses to issues concerning transgenderism.

Vignette Nine deals with mandated urine specimens: What if an “observer” is uncomfortable having to watch a soldier — who has “not [had] sex reassignment surgery” — pee into a cup?

Comfort-minded measures are on the table:

Commanders may consider alternate observation options… Options could include observation by a different observer or medical personnel of the same gender as the soldier.

But what about washing with a penis-packing peer? According to the eighth vignette, reluctant ladies are out of luck. But maybe at least the person-with-a-prostate won’t pee.

A soldier transitioned from male to female… The soldier did not have sex-reassignment surgery. … [O]ther soldiers have expressed discomfort showering with a female who has male genitalia (in an open-bay shower configuration).

Is this Biden’s idea of how to build our military into an effective fighting force?

We report, you decide.

New Cause for Concern over Chemical Abortion and Data Privacy in the wake of Dobbs thumbnail

New Cause for Concern over Chemical Abortion and Data Privacy in the wake of Dobbs

By MercatorNet – Navigating Modern Complexities

The concept of privacy lies mostly in tatters anyway …

With the June 24 Dobbs decision overturning of Roe v. Wade and Casey, the US Supreme Court withdrew the nationwide blockade against the intention of many states to ban abortion to a greater or lesser degree. Depending on where you live, abortion may already be illegal or will shortly become so.

Texas, where I live, is one of the more aggressive states, having effectively banned most abortions since last fall by authorizing private citizens to sue anyone who assists in an abortion. To the best of my knowledge, the penalties for performing abortion focus mainly on the providers. But any woman who wants an abortion now faces a new forest of legal complications, including the possibility that law enforcement agencies may obtain extremely private information such as data from period apps in building a case that an abortion was performed.

In a recent Vox online piece, Sara Morrison pointed out that although women concerned about keeping their possible pregnancy status private should probably get rid of their period apps, that is not the only way you can be spied on, although period-app companies have a rather poor record when it comes to data privacy anyway.

Most media companies have a boilerplate clause as part of that agreement everybody pretends to read (and nobody does), which allows them to share information with legally constituted law enforcement agencies that have a reason to obtain it. So even if a woman sent a private text message to her closest friend saying that she thought she was pregnant, and a state police investigation thought it was relevant in prosecuting an abortionist, they could legally obtain that message.

The concept of privacy lies mostly in tatters these days for anyone who spends any amount of time online, which is pretty much everybody. While the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution guarantees the right to be secure in one’s “persons, houses, papers, and effects,” it does allow searches (presumably including online ones) in cases where a crime is suspected and a warrant for the search can be justified.

What is so different today from the circumstances in 1792, when the Bill of Rights was enacted, is that all of us leave electronic trails that are in legal grey areas in many cases. Simply being on social media and using one’s mobile phone creates gobs of data that clever analysts with adequate resources and access to commercial databases by means of search warrants can use to create an incredibly intimate portrait, including one’s pregnancy status or attempts to obtain an abortion.

Morrison says the ultimate solution is better data-privacy laws. And she may be right. The problem with this is that the entire economic basis of social media relies on the violation of the kind of privacy that data privacy laws would protect. So unless the Big Tech giants figure out an entirely new revenue model, their heavy hands on the scale of justice will outweigh any desire on the part of the general public to be more private online.

This is not an easy column for me to write, because I am personally opposed to abortion. At the same time, I realize that trying to enact (or revoke) a law that creates a situation which is hugely unpopular among a large segment of the public leads to situations in which law either loses respect or unduly harsh measures are used to enforce it. Probably some of both will happen in the coming months as the nation readjusts to the new circumstances surrounding abortion.

Judging from the way Morrison wrote her article, she seemed to take the point of view of a woman who finds herself pregnant against her intention and wants to get an abortion, but lives in a state where abortion is now illegal. What are the options?

Over half of current abortions are achieved by means of medication, which means the combination of mifepristone and misoprostol taken to induce a spontaneous abortion. Many states are or will shortly take steps to make such medications illegal for use in abortion, and the natural first thought of many—to order them online—leaves one open to surveillance as explained above.

The next option would be to travel out of state to a place where abortions are still performed. But in a state like Texas, even helping someone with travel arrangements could be grounds for a lawsuit—remote grounds, maybe, but who wants to do something that leaves their friends liable to be sued? And everyone’s whereabouts are being tracked 24/7, or at least the whereabouts of your phone, unless you turn it off. So as things stand, there are really not many places to hide.

Far from solving the problem, the Dobbs decision has brought abortion into the spotlight of public consciousness and debate in a way that perhaps hasn’t been equaled since the original 1973 decision that legalized it by judicial fiat nationwide. The real problem, the one that lies deeper than online privacy, or legal decisions or codes, is a cultural one.

We live in a hypocritical culture which both promises untrammelled freedom and withholds from nearly everyone the means to realize that freedom, which is illusory in any case. The culture has convinced millions of women that pregnancy and childbirth is simply not an option compared to all the other treasures of the world, and if a woman becomes a mother without meaning to, she must correct the error even if it means the death of an innocent being.

This is a serious distortion of how the world is, and correcting it is going to take more than the passage or revocation of a few laws or judicial rulings. But if Dobbs and its fallout get us to thinking about these things, there is at least hope that the truth will eventually emerge. And it is only the truth that makes people truly free.

The Growing Litany of Abortion Lies

By The Catholic Thing

Robert Royal: As happened after Soviet Communism unexpectedly fell, the fall of Roe will lead to serious conflicts. But our new freedom to speak the truth is now the foundation for great hopes.

Abortion “rights” were always a tissue of lies. A lie about the U.S. Constitution, to be sure, but before that the lie that “a woman has a right to control her own body.” Which no one denies, up to a point. That point is clearly defined by the sound principle that your right to swing your arms stops at the tip of my nose. There’s another living, human body (half the time a very young woman’s body) also involved in abortion – which admittedly complicates matters. But that body had to be lied into invisibility with talk of “clumps of cells” and “products of conception” before the other lies could become even remotely plausible.

Yet after fifty years of such lies, vigorously promoted by our dominant cultural and political institutions as simple, progressive truth (even though progressives say “truth” is, in other contexts, a kind of violence and hate), we never heard the fanciful claims that have begun to appear since the Dobbs decision – with more on the way.

Some of those claims might even be regarded as rather comic, if the stakes were less serious. For instance, Dobbs has even spurred some people into a kind of lying poetry. Take this blunt couplet, which was chanted by 2,000 people who marched in front of NYC’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral the weekend after Dobbs:

F*** the Church, f*** the State,

You can’t make us procreate.

This lie (that Dobbs or the churches are forcing anyone to do anything) is intimately connected, so to speak, to another lie: that the act that naturally makes babies is, willingly engaged in, not supposed to make babies.

Some pro-abortion voices, indirectly, admit as much. Take the new argument (click here for one among many other examples) that “women,” to use an indefinite term at the moment, who fear pregnancy in states with limits on abortion post-Dobbs may now consider turning lesbian. Or even forgoing sex altogether.

In America anno Domini 2022, anything is possible when it comes to sex. Still, this particular bit of “news” seems to serve a double purpose, like many of the new lies. It confirms the apostles of gender fluidity in their belief that one option, now that the Holy Writ of Roe has been debunked, is just to switch-hit, which maybe you were thinking about doing already anyway. But it also seems to be intended to induce second thoughts among pro-lifers: take away abortion and you’ll get even more gays, non-binaries, child-avoiding “birthing people.”

Even conceding the absurdity of the premise, how many people will actually face pressure to make such moves? There have been about 900,000 abortions annually in recent years, and the available figures show that at least two-thirds take place in the states with high abortion rates, like California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, and Michigan. Among high-abortion-rate states, only Florida seems likely to change anything significantly.

And the lying hardly stops there. We’ve all just been treated to the horror show of the 10-year-old girl in Ohio who was raped and, it was said, had to travel to Indiana to get an abortion. (She actually didn’t need to, since Ohio’s abortion laws have a “medical emergency” exception for such cases.)

But there was something obviously fishy from the start when the doctor  – a pro-abortion activist – who made this case national news announced that the girl was six weeks and three days “pregnant” and therefore just outside Ohio’s six-week limit on abortion.  Most medical texts define pregnancy as beginning at “implantation,” i.e., when the fertilized egg actually attaches to the uterus, a process that can take from one to two weeks.

Many women have discovered when they give birth that the doctors were wildly off about the due date. So it beggars belief that, in the Ohio case, at such an early and uncertain stage, a doctor in another state could say, with high scientific accuracy, that a poor Ohio girl was in distress because she was only three days beyond the legal limit.

The Indiana doctor, to be charitable, may only have been engaging in misguided compassion to make a point. But to the uncharitable eye, this looks very much like a deliberate and politically motivated lie by a medical professional

We’ll hear many more of them as the Dobbs ruling plays out. The president of the American Medical Association, which expresses rock-solid certainty about affirming every LGBQT+ claim and even seems untroubled about pumping puberty blockers into children and performing surgery on them at their merest request, claims that post-Dobbs “confusion” is making many medical professionals “deny” or “delay” legitimate treatments out of fear of the law.

Given the AMA’s ideological track record, count me skeptical.

Doctors aren’t the only ones allegedly “confused.” Many people in other countries and the foreign press are, too. Somehow the message has gone out to the world that America has “banned” abortion. A few of the individual States may do something close to that. But as the case of the 10-year-old Hispanic girl indicates, even if you are very poor and from a marginalized minority group, it isn’t hard to get around State-level restrictions. Yet many people abroad, seeing the lies of our own public officials and media, reach the opposite conclusion.

So what is to be done?

As with any regime of lies, the first thing is not to let the liars have their lying way. It will take great courage and much preparation, steadiness about when it’s wise to speak and not, but above all conviction that, despite the passionate debates over Dobbs, truth is powerful. Which is why many institutions these days deny truth-tellers a platform.

As happened after Soviet Communism unexpectedly fell, the fall of Roe will, yes, lead to serious conflicts. But the main thing that’s happened – the disappearance of a murderous and mendacious tyranny – needs to be constantly kept in mind, because our new freedom to speak the truth is now the foundation for great hopes.
